The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Amber crawled out from underneath her pile of purple robes, only a foot tall and a couple of feet long. She was, currently a small green and black scaled dinosaur by the name of a Compsognathus and she was planning to learn the fine art of hunting tonight!
In the weeks since discovering her power, Amber had become (more or less) proficient at shifting into her dinosaur forms and had started to figure out how to shift back as well, although that was still somewhat on the unreliable side. What she had not done, however, was give her claws and fangs any sort of test run and she decided that it was far overdue time to do so.
Amber's decision to start with her Compsognathus had more to do with the fact that it was small and therefore easily hidden than it did the fact that it was her favourite form (which it was currently). If any far too curious humans happened to spot her, she could always just run and hide in some bushes and they would be none the wiser. Or at least, that was the theory. Plus, as a small creature she could hunt other, even smaller creatures. Hunting humans just wasn't something that she would ever consider doing and deer and other large animals just didn't seem to spend much time in the city. Plus, her Styracosaurus form was a plant eater, so no hunting required there.
Amber had chosen night time for two different reasons. First, it was dark out so fewer people would notice her and second, she wouldn't' have to worry about her sensitive skin. Not that she had to while shifted anyway, but there was still the time spent coming to and from Central Park.
With a menacing chirp (or at least as menacing as a chirp from a 2 ft lizard could be anyway) Amber spotted her target. It was a little green lizard, only a few feet away from her, and it was perfect. She poised herself for a leap, gauging the distance between herself and the little green critter. Once aimed, she jumped, intending to tackle it with claws outstretched.

Liz needed to go back to the mansion. It was getting pretty dark out and she wanted to get a good night’s rest. But the green anole was so fascinating! She had been taking a walk to central park, wanting a different place to get away from everyone at the mansion (a place without movies or crazy gunmen), when she’d thought about something. Here she was, a girl who’d officially come out of the mutant closet only recently, yet she still hadn’t done much with her powers than calming Nico down each time he got angry over something.
So she’d decided to change that. Recollecting quite clearly what had happened on the fateful day she’d discovered she was a mutant, Liz had proceeded to imitate the process with the only thing she could find on hand that would touch her. And so there she was, slinking and streaking through the grass and bushes in central park, as only a green anole could. It was rather intersting, her power. Somehow, it not only let her control the creature’s thoughts, but she also had total access to their minds. She’d easily spent twenty minutes sifting through the lizard’s memories and thoughts, somehow understanding the foreign patterns. From that, she’d discovered that he was an escaped pet who was thriving in the park. And that had given her the idea to take the little guy back to the mansion with her, since he clearly didn’t belong outside of the southeastern United States. She’d be helping him, right? And he’d clearly volunteeered to escape and he had no tags. Finders keepers?
But it was getting dark so she tried figuring out where she’d left her body. She didn’t think it would be practical to run back to the mansion as the lizard.
And that was when the moon blacked out and a huge weight landed on her. Well, not on her per se, but close enough. Alert with her own fear bolstering the lizard’s natural flight response, Liz darted through the grass and up a park bench, scared to turn around least she see what had tried to attack them and let it catch up with them.
Worms sat down on a bench in Central Park. It was dark, and almost no one was around.
>>Okay my friends. It's time to feed.<<
His face twisting up in pain, Worms grunted mutely as his worms crawled out from his stomach, pushing aside his loose T-Shirt at the bottom and spreading out. Worms usually controlled almost their every move, but at times like this, he allowed them to roam free. It was must less stressful on him.
Unscrewing the cap from a bottle of water, Worms took a long drink of water. He closed his eyes, the vibrations his worms felt reading out within his inner eye. He felt his worms' happiness; they enjoyed eating healthy soil like that of Central Park. Worms began to even fall asleep, but just before he entered the dreamland, his eyes snapped open. One of his worms suddenly felt a huge spike in hunger. It had found something tasty.
Worms focused on this worm. The vibrations it felt were familiar; it had found a small living creature. Worms laughed. It was most likely a stray dog. Closing his eyes again, Worms began to try and take a nap, letting his worm enjoy its dinner.
The worm in question slowly burrowed up from underground. It held its excited clickings to itself, slowly sneaking up on his prey. It had found a tasty chicken. A large, scaly chicken. The ooze from its mouth began to flow rapidly, its hungry levels rising. Then, as the chicken-snack leaped for something, the worm used its powerful muscles to leap for it.
Amber leaped, struck the ground hard and...missed her target completely. OK, perhaps not completely, since the little lizard was rather close to her sharp dinosaur claws, but she still missed and the lizard skittered away from her. Cocking her head and keeping her eyes trained on her prey, Amber decided to try again.
The lizard skittered up the side of a bench but that was not going to be any safety for it, not at all. Although Amber couldn't climb in her current form, she could jump rather high and far and the couple feet off the ground that the bench presented was to be no difficulty at all. She ran at the bench and, after a moment spent judging distance and trajectory, leaped for a second time, landing on the bench next to the lizard.
That's when things changed from a friendly game of cat and mouse (or dinosaur and lizard as the case may be) to terror filled flight for her life. Just as Amber leaped to the bench, the giant mouth of what could only be described as a monstrous worm snapped at her, barely missing clamping onto her feet. She trilled in terror, all thoughts of her lizard target forgotten and replaced by the very strong desire to get away and flee for her life from the giant worm creature.

Before they had a chance to escape, LizZard heard a whooshing sound and then felt tons of vibrations and heard a loud CLANG! Whatever it was that had attacked her before was back! And right beside her! The joint terror of the joined minds knocked Liz out of control over the reptile. Their legs powered up and LizZard ran past the creature and leaped/fell off the edge of the bench. From there they darted through a few feet of grass and skittered another few feet up a tree, instinctively turning brown.
Finally Liz started calming the duo down. As she began thinking clearly, she beamed feelings of calmness at the lizard, rapidly decreasing its fear. She searched through the anole’s thoughts and found one it associated with comfort and security. She dragged it to the surface and let the anole’s mind wander and relax as it remembered lounging under a heat lamp with a full belly.
Elizabeth herself was harder to calm. She quickly made sure her emotional barriers were up, something that confused her about possessing. Although she could still use her empathy with animals, when in an animal’s body, her secondary powers were…well, a bit limited. But at least she didn’t have to worry about quickly getting overwhelmed or anything.
In the extremely short amount of time it’d taken her to climb the tree, the creature attacking her had let out a frightening…trill? If she’d been human, she would’ve blinked. Trill? What kind of animal trilled? Especially when it saw a tasty-looking lizard like the one Beth was inhabiting? Confused, Elizabeth turned the reptile’s head and stared at what had attacked her.
It was…a dinosaur? But it was the size of a cat. She laughed to herself, in her own thoughts of course, at the creature. It was more like a chicken than a T-Rex! Then she happened to notice its claws. Wicked looking things. LizZard was suddenly reminded of their own mortality when Beth realized that she was a light snack for the monster.
Then movement below the remnant grabbed her attention. It was like watching Tremors. A worm? Is that seriously a worm? With a giant mouth? With TEETH? And it was attacking a freakin’ DINOSAUR?!?! Liz stared for a moment in total disbelief.
Then she realized that something was going on. And she needed to stop it. Freaky little dinosaur that had just attacked her or not, it was probably the last of its kind (or it would’ve been all over the news) and she was practically honor-bound to protect it from this…worm. She focused her feelings and shot them out in a narrow band to hit the two creatures. Peace, tranquility, happiness, calmness, love, and a cocktail off other positive emotions and feelings, as well as laziness.
(ooc: Remember! Liz cannot affect Amber ‘cause she’s a shifter. Worms, it’s up to you to decide if Liz can affect the worm with her empathy, and if so, to what degree.)
As Worms napped, his worms had full reign. This included the worm that was attempting to turn Amber into a snack.
As the small dinosaur trilled, the worm's slimy spit splattered over its prey's back. The worm then attempted to bite down, but missed, taking a chuck out of the wooden bench. However, the metal bar the held the wooden slats together was in the way.
CLANG-TINK
The worm flailed in agony as the metal bar broke a few of it's teeth. Shrinking down to it's shortest and widest dimensions, the worm was now less the four feet long and eight inches wide, half of the first row of teeth missing. Flattening it's body against the ground, it tried to sense the vibrations of the chicken-snack as it ran away.
A small part of Amber's mind continue to be aware of the fact that her little lizard target had scurried off of the bench she currently stood on and had disappeared up a tree. Maybe her eyes might have even been good enough to actually detect the repitle despite its camoflage but, at that exact moment, she had other things to deal with. Such as the fact that a giant man eating worm was trying to devour her!
Amber hadn't realized just how much she hated and feared worms until that moment. There was nothing quite like the appearance of a worm that was 2-3 times her size (or maybe more!) to convince someone that worms were very very bad! Not only bad, but terrifying! What had she done to deserve a creature like that trying to make her its snack? Nothing, that's what. Its not like it was immoral to try and hunt a lizard, it was only a lizard, after all, and a tiny dinosaur eating an even tinier lizard was the natural way of things.
The worms maws snapped so close to Amber that she even felt worm spittle drop onto her back, something that would have been disgusting if she was not so entirely terrified. She trilled again, wishing she could run up the tree like the little lizard had. Instead it was going to be a matter of out running and out maneuvering her hunter and ran she did, darting towards a bush located under the tree. Oh, how dearly she hoped that worms were not very fast ore manuverable, otherwise she was about to become lunch.

What a situation. Here Liz was, in the body of a lizard who was just attacked by a dinosaur, now trying to save said dinosaur from being attacked by a giant mutant worm. Wait, mutant? The thought stopped her. Was it possible? Was it possible that there happened to be two mutants out there, one who could turn into a chicken-dino and one who could turn into a mini Mongolian death worm? She guessed it was just as possible as a mutant who could turn into a gryphon or a mutant who could become as cyborg-ish as she wanted.
But for all she knew it could’ve been an evolved lizard and some type of land leech. Either way, she needed to protect the dinosaur. It was clearly in danger.
LizZard repositioned themself on the tree, so they were facing down. It provided Liz with a better view of everything. Everything but the dino which seemed to have disappeared somewhere. Possibly behind the quaking and shaking leaves of a bush at the base of the tree? It would make sense, running from a hunter that much bigger than it. But at least it was safe for now, she hoped.
She settled her gaze on the worm that was…melting? It looked that way. She focused on the creature anyways, commanding its emotions to reveal themselves to her. A slight mix of pain and…hunger? Frustration? Something along those lines showed itself with the pain. Her heart went out to the beast, as horrible and sickening as it was. She started broadcasting a mixture of comfort and contentment toward the worm, hoping that it would negate whatever it was that was bothering it.
Then she set off to find that dinosaur, but choosing to climb along the tree branches to get to it. It was a lesson she’d learned for an old Tweetie Bird cartoon, where the canary was giving a sick Sylvester Cat his pills via slingshot: it was better to be safe than sorry.
The worm paused. What was this? It wasn't Worms himself. He was sleeping. Highly confused and overcome with a sudden calmness, the worm stopped chasing Amber and just clicked.
Worms eyes snapped open. His friend was in trouble.
>>Where are you my friend? We're coming.<<
Worms summoned the other four worms to him, and began to walk briskly towards the fifth worm.
Amber cowered in her little bush, desperately praying that the worms weren't going to find her in there. Fat chance of that happening, though. She prepared herself to dart out in an instant, the moment she saw giant worm jaws preparing to close in on her. She was pretty sure she was faster than they were, but she wouldn't be able to keep up her mad flight forever. Eventually she'd either have to lose it or she would become the giant worm's lunch.
Amber waited...and waited...and then realized that, for some reason, the worm wasn't coming after her after all. Had hiding in the bush really served to keep her from the evil creature's vision. Very slowly and carefully she hopped out of the bush, looking around to try and spot the worm only, and this was a shock, to find it just sitting there. What was going on? Amber wasn't about to stick around to find out and began creeping away very slowly. With a little luck she'd be able to return to her hidden pile of robes and change back, thus being bigger than the worm and then she'd be able to squish it. Or, even better, she had much better forms than human, maybe she'd turn into Styracosaurus and then squishing would commence. Oh indeed, giant worm or not, it was still a lot smaller than an elephant.

Liz crossed over to another tree from two branches that nearly touched. Even with her goal and mind, she couldn’t help but marvel at the little creature she was inhabiting. It was just a little ol’ thing, but it felt as fast as a rocket, could climb practically anything, could change colors, and had a pretty red dewlap. Its mind was fascinating as well. It was so focused, so clear-cut. It knew what it wanted and oriented itself to go after it. It was cool and logical: it was the mind of a predator.
It was that part of the mind that made Liz remember to keep tabs on the worm and the dino. As she got closer to the main trunk of the tree, Liz focused on the worm’s feelings, demanding that they keep her in the loop. In return, she felt a spike of confusion. That was odd. The feeling began confusing her as well, and not just through her empathy. Is this creature supposed to feel hunger or whatever all the time or something? I really need to figure out how my power works. She sent another wave of emotion at the beast, this time one of security, hoping that that would negate the confusion. The tricky thing about feelings: there wasn’t always an opposite to any particular one.
Liz cut the concentration and directed her attention to the dino. She decided that she needed to figure out its emotional status and see how best to approach it. About midway down the tree, Liz stopped in confusion. That’s funny, she thought. Maybe she’d lost it? It was very possible. When she was climbing on the branches above, she couldn’t concentrate on the ground much. And with the speed she’d seen the dinosaur use; she didn’t doubt that it could’ve ran away.
But then Chicken-Rex hopped out of a bush at the base of the tree. Liz stopped again, after only a few inches of progression. Okay, maybe I just need to see specific creatures to target them. That made sense, kind of. Again, she focused. And again, she got nothing. She switched her attention to the worm-thing and shortly received feelings. But she didn’t get any from the dinosaur. Slightly creeped out by the fact, Liz cautiously climbed down the tree, watching as the dinosaur slowly retreated from the worm.
Worms rounded a tree, and instantly his attention was drawn to his worm. Frowning, he ran forward, kneeling beside the creature. It clicked feebly as Worms tried to shush it, petting it gently like a child would with a newborn puppy. The other four worms wrapped around their hosts body.
>>What's wrong my friend?<<
Worms' lips quivered as his fingers touched the gums where the bench metal had broken the teeth of his friend.
>>Did someone get a boo-boo? I'm so sorry my friend. How did...<<
<<Foooood! Behind! Fooood!>>
Worms quickly turned around and saw...a dinosaur...jump out of the bushes.
"........"
The mutant normally would have had his worms attack instantly, but instead his friends just clicked, waiting for the command, as Worms stood staring speechlessly.
Amber continued her slow and quiet flight from the evil worm creature, splitting her attention between the monster that tried to eat her and her final goal. Her robes weren't hidden that far away, in a grove of trees just out of sight. All she had to do was get to them, shift back (or maybe to something scarier) and she'd be home free. Should be simple. In theory. If the worm decided not to pursue her. Fat chance of that happening.
Another glance at the mutant worm and Amber almost had a heart attack when she realized that one worm had suddenly multiplied into four and, not only that, but three of them were currently wrapped around a strange and sinister man. Just when she thought things couldn't possibly get any worse, they somehow did. Now, either the man had sent his worm out to kill her or he somehow didn't know that the worm had tried to kill her. In the former case, she was probably about to die a swift and painful death, so she prayed for it to be the latter case.
Amber continued inching away from the man and his worms, still hoping to somehow manage to flee for her life. She chirped at him, hoping that the pleading tone in her chirping might appeal to his heart and he wouldn't have his little pets try to eat her. Not being eaten sounded like a most excellent plan.

Liz stalked down the tree, keeping her senses trained on the dinosaur. For some reason, she couldn’t feel its feelings, and so she couldn’t tell if it was calm (and more likely to attack her), scared (and probably run), or just wary (and eat her for dinner). It left her feeling...naked, to an extent. She was close to the base of the tree and froze, waiting. Then the dinosaur made another noise. It reminded her of a sparrow chirping. And it made a weird kind of sense. Weren’t dinosaurs supposed to be related to birds?
Then a movement at the corner of her eye stole her attention momentarily. A man had appeared, kneeling over the deathworm that had attacked the thunder-chicken. Liz mentally slapped herself for being so careless as to completely train all of the lizard’s senses on the dino beneath her. She gazed at the man, wondering what he was doing. Well, that was easy enough, actually. The man was staring at the dinosaur. Which was only natural, really. The unnatural thing was the man’s mini army of giant slugs roaming around his body. Was that man a mutant-worm whisperer or something? Or a mutant. That was a very likely explanation. Just as likely as a 15-year old girl staring at the scene from the mind of an escaped green anole.
And the man looked to be in charge of the worms, or was at least friends with them. Elizabeth quickly checked the worm on the ground’s emotions. Yep, they were much improved, thanks to her tampering and definitely through the man’s presence. And since the man was with the worm, that meant he was against the dinosaur. Five to one were not good odds. Let’s even that a bit, shall we?, she thought to the lizard she was inhabiting.
She jumped off the tree and skittered over to a stop a few inches away from the dinosaur, praying that she wasn’t doing the stupidest thing in the history of fools.
Worms stood up, his four worms curling in spirals at his feet.
"A dinosaur. A DIE-NO-SORE? What is this, Jurassic Park?" Worms snapped, and his worms clicked loudly as the quickly crawled outwards, forming a circle around Amber. Liz had just jumped down next to Amber, which made Worms blink again.
"You brought a friend, eh? Ha." Worms knew something had to be up. His 5th worm was pacified, unwilling to move. There was a dinosaur in Central Park. A lizard had just jumped down and was standing next to the dinosaur. Either there was something fishy going on...or something mutie.
"Lets hope you're a mutant Barney," Worms said to Amber "because if you're not, my friends are going to be angry for letting me give up a free dinner."
>>Let it go....I said, let...it...GO!<<
The worms clicked annoyingly as they slowly slithered back, forming a gap in their circle for Amber to run away through, if she so wished to.
