It had been over three months since Joseph and Emily had started training. That drunken night in the bar was a distant memory. Emily wore a clingy tank top and shorts that didn’t leave much for the imagination. She had tried to fight in more modest clothing, but found it was quite cumbersome. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail and swung freely behind her back.
The undead girl stood quietly in the corner of the gym stretching. Her nose easily touched her knees as she reached down to touch her toes. She planted her hands flat on the ground as her legs stayed straight. The benefit of being dead meant she could become flexible much faster than a live person. In a few minutes she would wrap her arms with tape bandage to prevent them from being ripped off. Joseph had accidently injured her at least five times in the arm area. He had ripped her left one clean off one time. She didn’t want that to happen again.
Emily heard some snickering behind her. Boys were staring again. They left her alone because they knew who would be arriving soon. They had tried giving her a hard time before but Joseph put an end to that quick. She hoped he would be arriving soon.

Joe slowed down as he reached the doors to the gym, sweat beading up on his forehead before he quickly wiped it off with the small brown towel he kept handy. stretching out Joe grunted slightly and pulled a small water bottle out of the black pack slung over his back and downing half of it walked into the dingy gym he and Emily had been working out at for the last three months. Walking inside Joe pulled down the hood to the black sweatshirt he wore while he ran before meeting up with Emily a pair of black shorts finishing off his outfit and quickly scanning the room spotted the undead girl already standing over in a corner waiting for him.
As Joe made his way over to the zombie he had begun training Joe spotted a few of the other patrons of the dirty gym checking Emily out and he felt a knot form in his throat at the thought of what they wanted to do with her and what they would do if they ever found out what her mutation was. It had taken Joe sometime to get over being around her and all the nightmares that had given him especially after he had accidentally tore her arm off trying to show her how to perform an arm bar. The boys however quickly closed their mouths and returned to their workout when they saw the scar’d and tattooed Enders making his way towards Emily. A lesson he was glad he only had to teach them once.
As Joe got closer he scooped up a roll of white tape and quickly began to tape his hands up. “It’s been three months now, I want you to show me everything you’ve learned.” Joe said as he stopped in front of Emily and finished taping up his hands. Ripping off the tape he tossed it casually to the ground and quickly scanned the area while he spoke again. “After that we put some time in the ring.” It had been three months since he fractured his ribs the night he met Emily and he had still yet to really get back in the ring but it was finally time to see what Emily had learned and to show her the weaknesses she was having in actual combat. Reaching down he scooped up a pair of training open palm gloves and tossed them the Emily before grabbing a pair of accuracy mitts and slipping them on his own hands. Slapping them together he stretched his neck out and slipped down into a modified combat stance holding the mitts up for her to hit them. “Alright lets begin.”

Emily put on her gloves and faced Joseph , ready to attack. This was it. She had to prove to Joe that training her was not in vain. She began with punches, lead hand and rear hand. She put all her strength into each punch, but Joe barely even blinked. At least that’s what Emily noticed. She followed with a front kick. She had done this a thousand times, but Emily felt Joe was not impressed. She had to stop thinking so much.
Emily pulled back and took a second to collect herself. Focus was something Emily was very good at, she just had to reach it. There. No thought. Just do.
The zombie attacked the marine with a flurry of movements. Lead hand punch, rear hand punch, front kick, vertical elbow strike, horizontal elbow strike, palm chin head strike, hammer fist, lead knife hand, reverse knife hand, hook, uppercut, side kick, armbar. She did this with no sound, no grunts or ‘hiyays.’ Not even an exhale of breath. It was just skin hitting glove. Emily liked the silence.
She continued her routine until Joe ordered her to stop. Emily could go on forever.
