A week since the Halloween Incident at Central Park and Detective Jorge Cervantes still felt sore from his experience. Gemma had told him a couple of things he had done, whatever it was he could not remember, and quite frankly it freaked him out a little bit? How could have go around thinking he was a god and harming people left and right? Truthfully she told him it was to protect himself or her so that made him feel just a little bit better about the situation, but still, how could he lose that much control of himself? It was not like he had some overly developed ego to be an actual god or something? He was simply a cop who also happened to be a mutant. That did not automatically give him a god complex did it?
Well, Jorge mulled these thoughts over as he drove through the park once more heading towards the Mansion, Xavier’s Sister School. It was there that the woman he cared about most resided, or more actually was laid up still trying to heal from the wounds he received. Part of him felt guilty for not helping her more that night. He still could not believe what had happened. If he had been himself, he was sure he could have done more. At least that is what he wanted to believe.
As he drove up to the gate he had been to so many times before, he nodded a hello to the guard on duty. For past week Jorge had been a pretty constant visitor to make sure that Gemma was okay. Not that he did not trust her being there, he knew she was in perfectly capable hands, but he still, he wanted to be around for her.
The gate guard nodded to Jorge. “Here are again?”
Jorge smirked and nodded as he climbed out of his car and left it parked outside the gate, but off the road so he would not block anyone else coming in or out. In his hands was another bouquet of flowers. It consisted of irises and various other exotic flowers, but it was small and manageable. This had to be the third or fourth bouquet he had brought this week.
“You’re clear,” the guard said as he opened the gate for him.
“Thanks,” Jorge nodded as he headed in.
“Say hi to your girlfriend for me!”
“I will!”
Jorge was halfway towards the front door when he paused briefly. Did he just acknowledge that Gemma was his girlfriend? He remained paused for a second as he tried to organize his thoughts before continuing on. Once inside, he made his way through the mansion, nodded a hello to the few residents that knew him either by appearance or name. He waved hellos, nodded politely and made his way towards Gemma’s room. The conversation still rebounded his in his head.
Girlfriend… Was she really his girlfriend now? Jorge had not really thought about it that way yet. Then again, how could he not? That had been dating a little bit, he loved spending time with her and talking to her on the phone. What was wrong with they being boyfriend and girlfriend? Despite the fact that they were both in their forties and saying “boyfriend” and “girlfriend” made him feel like he was trying to talk like a teenager again. But how else could he say it?
As he made his way towards her room, bouquet of flowers in hand, he raised his hand to knock when he heard the oddest sounds. He paused and listened close…
“Is that…grunting?” he smirked. He could hear an overly loud TV stuck on a bad choice of a movie and what sounded like an angry woman struggling with a remote control. He had to suppress as laugh as he knocked gently on the door. “Gemma Taylor? This is the Indecency Police conducting a door to door investigation…Please let us in…”

Gemma rolled her eyes and rolled out of bed, dropping the remote control and unceremoniously unplugging the TV before she walked to the door.
"Whichever kid did this, they are in for a lifetime of detention." she grumbled, smoothing her hair back with her free hand. She was dressed in a plain shirt and sweatpants; DocProf visited every morning to change the bandages on her slowly healing wounds, and yell at her until she climbed back to bed. According to him, she needed rest. Gemma thought it was ridiculous.
Her left upper arm was broken, and in a sling; it still hurt, and the painkillers made her kinda sleepy most of the time. She really envied people who could be healed within minutes and run around like a certain MRC cop, making bad jokes through closed doors.
Opening said door, Gemma arched an eyebrow at said cop.
"Indecency Police?" she asked, one hand on her hip "Can I see your badge, please?"

The sight of poor Gemma bandaged up and with her arm in a sling still hit him hard. She was injured because he was running around thinking he was an Ocean God? The irony was enough to make him laugh but not really sustain it for long. He still felt bad that Gemma had to go through this. Though the detective was no stranger to broken bones, bruises and scratches, ever since she introduced him to DocProf, any serious injury and Jorge knew he could go to this man for help. It was not because he felt like he could not wait around for his body to heal like everyone else, it simply helped him to do his job. The less time he spent stuck in bed, healing the better.
But Gemma was different. Her abilities kept any mutant powers from affecting her. While that helped to keep her safe from dangerous mutants, the problem is that it also kept her from getting any aide from healing types like DocProf.
He said as he gave her a warm smile.
“That’s good, always ask for an officer’s badge before they enter a residence,” he smiled as he held up his wallet and flashed her his NYPD badge. “Oh, and I found these outside your door,” he said as he revealed the fresh bouquet of flowers he had brought her, a mix of purples, reds and pinks. “Take it you have a secret admirer.” he teased only a little before he sighed and his face turned a little more seriously. “How are you doing Gemma? Feeling any better?”
The poor thing did look like she had been sleeping a lot. Jorge knew that to be a side affect from painkillers. At one point when he was shot, he had to take them because the bullet had nearly destroyed his shoulder blade. He survived but he was put on painkillers and bed rest just like Gemma. After the first day he had gotten so antsy that his sister had to practically tie him down to the bed. Gemma had that same look in her eyes that he once had. He felt for her.
“May I come in?” he asked a little meekly, still trying to gauge whether or not she were happy he showed up…again…with flowers…again.

"Showoff." Gemma rolled her eyes at the badge, but couldn't resist a small smile. She took the bouquet of flowers; it was just as pretty as the ones before it, although she was starting to wonder what would happen when the flower shop ran out of different colors. "Secret admirer huh. It was probably the same brat who was messing with my TV set."
>>“How are you doing Gemma? Feeling any better? May I come in?”
"Yeah, I'm good." she waved, stepping aside to let him in. She closed the door behind Jorge and went to find yet another empty vase for the flowers. "DocProf did some tests, and they all came back negative, so I guess I got away with being bitten by a rabid werewolf." she said, putting the flowers on the table before she went to sit on the edge of her bed. "I guess I got lucky." she shrugged with her healthy shoulder "How are you doing?"

He smiled at being let into her room and waited for her to close the door behind him. Having been to her room so much this past week, it started to feel like a second home to him. He knew where most of the items belonged and was able to maneuver his way around to get anything for her if she needed it. Not that she was some invalid, but with a bum arm, it did help to have someone around to pick up and/or move things around when you can’t. Besides, he was happy to help out wherever he could.
He was about to comment why her TV was off when he noticed it was unplugged. The chivalrous side of him want to plug it in for her, thinking that maybe it had somehow got undone and she could not do it herself. But once he heard the comment she made about someone messing with it, he decided it was best to not. If there were any one less qualified to do anything around a television set, it was Jorge. So he simply waited until she took a seat at the edge of her bed and sat next to her.

“Well at least there is some good news. Would have hated to have to put you down or something. I’m growing a bit fond of your company,” he said with his typical grin. But it was bad joke and one that he immediately apologized for with the look on his face. “Sorry.”

The detective sighed a bit in weariness as he rubbed his hands over his face. He still seemed a bit worn from his trying to remember what happened that night. He was told that hopefully it should come back to him but he had to stop trying to force it. Unfortunately Jorge was not the type to just sit back and let things happen on their own.
“Fine. I mean, no major healing issues. Just…everything is still kind of a blur from that night,” he said as he sat up and merely watched her. “I know you told me a couple things. About some of the fights I got into, some of the people I hurt,” he still shuddered as he thought about that. “Thank you for being frank with me about that. Just…” he paused as he looked at her closely. “I feel like you did leave something out. I keep getting…flashes of conversation between you and me. Something about…uh…announcing…you know, like…love and such.”
Jorge could not have been redder. Gemma had said she told him everything he couldn’t fill in himself. About some of the fights he got into and people that threatened them. But he still felt like there was something missing. He kept getting flashes about lofty speeches or passionate kisses that felt like it was both him and not him who was kissing her. He sighed a bit as he smirked a little and turned his attention back onto her.

Gemma looked at him and rolled her eyes again. He was lucky he apoloized for that in time. She didn't like thinking about what could have happened all that much; when DocProf told her she was all right, she felt like she could breathe again. Well, Jorge was just trying to cheer her up. Not being put down was always a plus.

He was actually blushing. Gemma's lips curled into a smile; she didn't really know what to say, the sight of the big bad cop blushing like a teenager was kind of distracting. She chuckled, and thought about it for a while. She'd told Jorge he'd hurt people because he had flashes of what happened, and he wanted to know. He deserved to know. But, it turned out telling him about Poseidon's... um, other activities during the Halloween night was a lot less easy than telling him about the fights. Somehow it just felt silly now.
"Well... yeah." she sighed, and smirked at him "I think Poseidon had a serious crush on me."
It still felt silly.
"Y'know, with the mythological background and all, he was kind of... um, passionate about women to begin with. At first it was pretty much the same as the stories, except, I turned him down." she smirked again "But then, as things went on, he... seemed to think he was turning human, from being in a human body. And he kind of figured I... cared for that human body, and he... acted differently." she sighed "I don't know, it was probably the adrenaline. It was all kinds of weird, talking to you like that."

Jorge said nothing but merely watched her with an emotionless expression as she told him all of his exploits as Poseidon. She did not leave anything out this time and in a way he was both surprised and glad of it. It was good that he heard all this but it still made him feel…well…weird. But it did make sense. Everything she was saying seemed to fit exactly fit into the flashes of memories he was having. Jorge, even though he at the time he thought he was the Greek Ocean God, had professed love to this woman. And not just that but…passionate love! A small pang struck him in the back of his mind and as he sat there he couldn’t help but feel just a tiny bit…
“Jealous,” he muttered silently as he refocused his attention on Gemma.
He did not elaborate at first on what he said, but instead simply remained quiet as he mulled over everything in his head. So as Poseidon he at first wanted her, she shot him down, then convinced him that he was actually in a human body she cared about. As he paused there, a small smile played on his lips. So she really did care about him. Not that he really questioned it, but there was something about hearing that from someone else.
He looked up and noted the look on her face. She must have still been stuck on that last thing he had said. With a chuckle he sighed deeply as he regarded her, finally.
[ color=seablue] “I’m sorry, I’m just…I’m still trying wrap my head around what you said,”[/color] he replied as he sat back a little and shook his head. “I want to feel like I embarrassed myself…I mean, I did. Just…it’s pretty surprising when you hear that some alternate personality has revealed some pretty private information behind your back.”
He sighed a bit and shook his head again in thought. Poseidon, whatever his mind made up of this character, had said some pretty surprising things. He tried to seduce Gemma, and in the end, learned of it was like for a human to care for another human. Inwardly the detective chuckled because part of him then believed that maybe, just maybe Poseidon and Jorge’s thoughts were not so different when concerning a certain woman by the name of Gemma Taylor.
Another look at her and slowly he leaned over and pressed his lips against her cheek, careful to mind her arm, and reached up to stroke her hair with his free hand.

She smiled a soft smile at him; he really did care. She could tell that. Whatever fragment of his personality made up the God of the Oceans, it was still him, and he'd told her before that he cared. She looked at Jorge, and there was a glint in her eyes.
"Well, you know." she said, pulling a mock serious face "I had the God of the Oceans declaring his eternal love for me and offering me immortality to spend with him... And something about undersea volcanic vents, but I didn't really understand that part." she added, waving her hand "It kind of got me thinking about mythology and all that. I mean, how often do you get to become the consort of a god?..."
Putting a hand on his arm, she did her best to bite back a grin.

“Oh really now?” he said with a incredulous smirk.
He saw the glint in her eyes and he knew that Gemma was faking it, but he could not help but wonder. He had no idea that Poseidon could be so poetic. It was enough to make him smirk but also wonder how much of this Poseidon persona was really him? He could remember bits and pieces but not everything. He definitely did not remember promising Gemma “eternal love”, “immortality”, or…whatever the hell “volcanic vents” meant…but that did not mean he would not offer it to her one day possibly.
Keeping up with her ploy, a saddened look came across his face as she claimed her want to be a consort of a god. How many times had he heard that one before? (Not really, but that is what he liked to tell himself) He sighed knowingly and shook his head as the sadness began to melt away. Were they really having the conversation about her leaving him…for him? The prospect made his head hurt a little as he turned to look at her once more.
>> "I'm sorry, Jorge, it's not you, it's me."
He nodded as he reached over and gently ran his fingers across her good arm. “I understand, Gemma. I know I cannot offer you volcanic vents,” he paused for a second. Then he simply shook his head and continued. “Or immortality. I’m just a cop from New York. So…I hope you will have a good life with Poseidon…and bring your bathing suit.” he made to stand from her bed, but as he started to lean forward, he paused as he turned his sad eyes back onto Gemma. “But…before I go…can I at least have one farewell kiss to remember you by?”

She looked at him; she knew he was faking most of the sadness, but still, it hurt her to see him like that. He didn't mind that Poseidon was gone, not one bit. Even when she was with him, and it was kind of exciting, she couldn't wait to get the real Jorge back. He was better in so many ways that a made-up mythical persona based on a Halloween costume. She smiled softly at him.
"Thought you'd never ask."
The kiss she gave him was certainly something to remember her by. It was similar to the one they shared with Poseidon in his human moments; except, this one was real, in all senses of the word. It made her slightly dizzy at the end, probably because of the meds she was on; she let him go then, and smiled. Poseidon was right. She'd never chose him over a mortal man.

The kiss that followed was definitely one to be remembered. The second his lips met hers all notions about Poseidon and her leaving him for the Greek God disappeared. Even since that night after he came to his senses Jorge had been a little worried about getting too close to her. She had been hurt, bad it looked to him, but something she would definitely survive from. Still, the protecting side of him wanted to treat her like fine porcelain. Because of that every time he had visited her, he had done little more than give her a small kiss on her cheek. He panicked the first time she got out of bed to answer the door when he visited her.
He still remembered the look she gave him.
But now it was obvious that she was indeed feeling better. His lips pressed against hers, and Jorge found himself close, but not too close for fear of her arm. His free hand gently caressed her cheek as he felt all the air escape from his body. He knew then that she would never leave him for some alternate personality of a Greek God. And he could not have been more thankful for that.
Slowly and reluctantly the kiss was broken and he began to feel as lightheaded as she looked. He smirked as he still cupped her face in his hands while he gently he stroked her cheeks with his thumbs. He could only shake his head as he leaned in and gave her one more kiss on her lips before he finally leaned back a bit and simply held her.
“You know…I’ve had something on my mind,” he said silently. His arms still holding her, he sighed a bit as he sat back and gently took her free hand into his. “I know, this has to sound juvenile, but…” he looked at her closely, really hoping that he was not about to make a fool of himself. “I like you. I really do. And I’m hoping you feel the same about me so…what would you think about making this exclusive? I don’t have an interesting in dating anyone else but you…” He paused as he tried to search her eyes for something, some hint as to what she was thinking. Did he make a fool of himself? He was a 40 year old man, pretty much asking a woman to be his girlfriend.
God I feel like such a teenager he thought to himself.
“I mean….I can’t offer you volcanic vents or immortality…" he said with a chuckle. "and I'm a cop...then there's that whole incident with Mittens and now the Halloween party... So I know there are a hundred reasons to say no. So I won't be offended, but…what do you think?” he asked quietly. "Unless you do have other admirers courting you? Not that I could blame them."

Leaning against him (and thankful that he was sitting onher unhurt side) Gemma smiled as she listened to his little speech. She'd seen this coming for a while now; she didn't mind at all. Sure, it felt like being a teenager (or, at least, listening to one...), but it was also sweet. In a grown-up sort of way.

"I am not afraid of your job, Jorge." she said, looking up at him "As long as you are not afraid of mine, I think we're good." she added with a small smile "And you don't need to offer me anything, I have seen enough to trust you." she gave him a kiss on the cheek "So, Detective Cervantes, you got yourself a girlfriend."

The grin that crept cross his face must have made him look quite silly but at the moment he really did not care anymore. So finally, here he was…in a serious relationship. How long had it been since his last real relationship? He tried to think back but the only example he could come up with was Nichole and that was way back when he was fifteen. Had it really been that long? Had all his “relationships” since then really turned sour before they truly had gotten to such a serious step? For a moment Jorge felt just a small pang of panic. He must have been so out of practice.
But then his eyes refocused on Gemma and all those fears melted away the second she leaned over and kissed his cheek.
“And you, Miss Taylor, have yourself a boyfriend.” he said before he could no longer keep it in and just laughed. “I’m sorry,” he said between chuckles. “It’s just…been a long time since I ever said something like that out loud.”
After another jovial chuckle, he smiled as he turned and kept his gaze on Gemma. She really was a sight to behold, even though she still bore scratches, bruises, and of course had one of her arms in a sling. Maybe that was why it felt so different with her, when compared to the few other times he was set up on dates since Nichole. He and Gemma seemed to share something deeper, a connection that could only come about when one finds someone they can truly be compatible with. For the longest time the detective never thought he would find something like that and low and behold, he runs into her, quite on accident, in Central Park!
There was something deep between them. Jorge could feel it. Every date they had been on, including the ones that ended up with either himself harmed pretty badly or Gemma having to shoot someone, all only succeeded in proving this to him. He was protective of her, was enthralled by most everything she said, the air simply felt better when she was around. It was safe to say that this would be the next logical step.
He grinned he reached over and gently took her free hand with his.
“So, seeing as we have newly labeled ourselves as boyfriend and girlfriend,” he said with a small chuckle. “I saw we celebrate. You think the Warden DocProf will give you time off from here for good behavior?”

"I know" she chuckled. It had been a long time for her too. The last time she had a serious relationship, she ended up with a husband and two kids. Well, she couldn't see that happening again anytime soon, but still; it had been a long time, and she couldn't help but feel a little bit excited about the whole thing. Also, she'd have to break the news to the kids. Oh joy.

"Well, if we ask nicely and politely..." Gemma paused "... no, probably no way in hell." she shook her head with a grin "I think it kinda annoys him that he can't heal me like everyone else." she looked at Jorge "Besides, I am not sure I am ready for another date. At least give me some time to heal before we get into trouble again."
She smiled; she didn't really mean it. She knew very well some of their dates were bound to end like they were supposed to be instead of with shooting and injuries. Sooner or later... Gemma sighed, and leaned back against his shoulder.
"I am not sure I'm ready to face the world just yet."

He had to both chuckle and feel a little bad at that comment. It was true, so far some of the dates that had been on had turned less than ideal. Attempted murder on the man taking you out, could cause you to want to hold off on another dating scene. But there had to be a good date or two coming after all this right? Still, he had to admit that maybe Gemma did have a point. Besides, he did not say it to force her to go out someplace…sometimes the best dates are the ones you have at home.
“No problem,” he replied as he gently raised his arm and let her cuddle up next to him. He sighed as gently held her, mindful of the arm, bruises and cutes. “Besides, I’m sure DocProf will find a way to kill me if I try to sneak out out of here.”

He nodded in agreement with that. It was definitely better that she stay here until she were comfortable enough to want to leave again. After everything that has been happening, and especially because she is unable to heal, it must make things difficult for her. He was actually surprised she had not run and locked herself into her room sooner. Still, he would be with her, so long as she would have him by her. He leaned down and kissed her cheek tenderly before he finally stood up from her bed.
“Well, seeing as you’re incapacitated, I managed to sneak in a couple of diversions for you in the meantime.” he smiled while as he wandered over to his coat, which he had draped over a chair in her room. He rummaged through the big pockets as he pulled out a couple things and headed back over to her. “Okay, first off…” he handed her a pair of small books. One of them was a Classic World Short Stories, the one was simply some trashy store romance novel. “I was not sure which you’d be in the mood for, so I got both, aaaand,”, he unfolded a magazine that had been inside the coat pocket as well. “A magazine.” He grinned as he once more rejoined her in bed and held her close. “Anyways, I say we make our own fun tonight. How about…you sit here, rest or nap, as you need…,I’ll stick around if you like, and then I can either order or make you something for dinner?” he gently stroked her arm as he collected all the goodies he had brought her. “Sound like a plan?”
