A entire week was needed for him to smile again , not even to plan the possibility to smash the bastard that hurt Katrina made him smile . He had failed in everything, it was really depressing to see how Iron Mouth before the future conqueror of the world left the throne but Cielle ordered him to make the video and he gladly accepted it to have something more in his mind than sad memories and dangerous words. It was important for the band to do some propaganda ,also to smile to the camera could be a good medicine for someone that forgot how to smile . He was good acting , after all he lived in the street for two long years but it was not needed at all , he was happy to have something funny to do again to clear all the fog fooling his mind . So he tried to look like the cheerful boy he was , for all his fans (He hoped them to be a lot ). He did not call Katrina since that casual meeting in Koga's room nor tried to contact her .He was afraid of her , afraid to find more things in what he had failed without even noticing but he was more afraid to unwilling hurt her again , it was quite possible 'cause he was so careless and stupid . It was not easy but he evaded her for the entire week .Therefore a new casual encounter was unavoidable . When the darkness covered all the room he rested in his soft bed hoping next day to be a good one .
The new day raised from the very abyss (It was so dark outside that seemed like the sun would never appear ) , it was all swallowed by darkness, a vast land apparently without even a single living creature on it. all seemed dead in the stillness of the night . darkness dominated everything and everyone slept peacefully or not , waiting for the sun to rise and show the new day, sunlight would wake up everyone with hope to start a fruitful day of work, school or whatever they should do ... An insistent ringing broke the silence of the room while his mind slipped his between the thin layers of reality into his body . His eyes opened slowly to see what was announced by the insistent drilling hum . Initially he just saw some red lines indefinite floating in front of him , as his pupils were adequately capturing the light he was able to correctly read the digital clock's numbers . Five o'clock Ante Meridiem like showed those big red numbers made of sticks that were so familiar to him . It was always the first thing Fausto saw as he wake up , the second was the photo of his beloved mother. Every time he looked at her picture he remind about his ideals of justice and the promise to not let it happen again . He was always sad thinking that he could not save any photos of his father, but always remembered him in his mind with a big smile. The third thing that his eyes focused on that morning was unusual at the every day scene. The digital video camera laying there anxiously waited for being use. was it just his imagination or he could actually hear how the fancy gadget called him with little squeaks? No, that was the birds's waking sounds muffled by the closed windows and heavy curtains, his ears were still coming out of the numb caused by sleep . ¨Gadget¨ was how the kid comically designated these super technological equipment not needed in his daily life . Next to this were several batteries,It was wise to keep them if he thought to film all day. Clumsily he turn on the camera, uncovered the lens ,opened the screen and pointed that Cyclopean eye to him, for the moment it was recording everything in a greenish hue due to low light. Between yawns he communicated to his silent partner .And it save the little angel's voice with great ability as if it were a huge microphone.
¨ This is a video for my fans, i will show or i will try to show one day in my life. First of all i have a little advice for all my female fans .I am still underage so there are not gonna be any nudity scenes.¨ The camera was set in motion in time with the child's laughter that accompanied the camera while it examined the road that separated the bathroom from his bed. He put the camera with care on the ground, then turned it off and back after a few minutes he had already taken a shower. With the camera near him, he went to the bathroom again, he quickly ruffled his hair to give his hair a more casual and rebellious style , he always wore it the same way. He did not even bother to take a look at his mouth or teeth and continued his way to the door of the room as he lifted and examined mounds of clothing scattered everywhere while camera in hand, trying to record what he saw. He grabbed a pair of jeans, a shirt from another pile , a sock of one color, other one of another color . It seemed that the pair was lost in some of these collections of clothes, or maybe they were under the bed. Anyway nobody would see his feet, his shoes were at the door waiting for him there still where he had left them previous night 'cause he was eager to go to bed because was late and sleep quickly fed on his strength. That was something to be included, so he walked toward the kitchen through the deserted halls as he share that he always slept late, more or less at 11pm . After dinner almost always like to write, songs or anything else. Sometimes he also used those quiet moments to read, even to train and maintain his body on shape, whatever he wanted to do he did it in his room because nobody wanted children to be up so late .He always thought it was better to exploit to the maximum all the time he got .
¨ Ya know, being a mutant is a 360 degrees turn to your life. One day you're a quiet guy who is not good at maths and the next day you can melt anything with your saliva and end up forming a band and stuff like that. ¨ Iron Mouth dedicated a wink and a smile as charming to the camera that would have melted even the hardest heart as if it was his saliva and not a mere word and a glance . The video was a spectacular marketing tool, Cielle had eyes for business. ¨ Hey look! He is a friend of mine. ¨ The camera turned quickly to the front, the boy's face quickly disappeared as things pass in front of the lens quickly until it focused on a child about his same age a little chubby but not so much. What was most visible about him was his curly red hair and freckles. ¨Smile Dubby! You gonna be in Internet later!¨ Duncan timidly waved as he walked away without a word with his face all painted red as strong as the color of his hair.
¨ Is a great friend, he is just a little shy but man , his power rocks, he can remember the taste of every food he ate and even tell you what ingredients and how many of each one is there. That must be great for cooking. ¨ Fausto commented on his friend who was not very attracted to come out in camera even he had given an important clue that no one would understand , Duncan loved to cook and he was really good at it. He had known Dubby in the kitchen, very early for the rest of the mansion but he hated to sleep more . As he reached the kitchen he gladly found it empty, nobody was up yet.They would do at least an hour later to attend classes so he had time to enjoy breakfast in the tranquility of solitude. While preparing scrambled eggs he kept talking to the camera that now rested on the counter capturing each of his movements without missing a detail, The eggs never turned out as well as Duncan ones but at least he tried, anyway the taste was not very important. ¨ I do this to not seize the population of all doors, chairs and pipes of the mansion because I really could eat a wooden table and it would be as nutritious as a good breakfast, in fact tastes do not last long in my mouth and I can only enjoy just seconds before my saliva dissolve it . While the eggs finish cooking, my favorite candy. ¨ He find a small bag in his pockets which contained a pile of rusty nuts and bolts from which he take a small handful that launched into his mouth one by one with great skill. ¨ I love rusty metal, is a awesome taste. ¨ A few seconds after his breakfast was ready, he placed it on a plate and ate with knife and fork. Yes, normal ones as any human or mutant would use . ¨ If you were expecting me to use knives and forks made of a material impossible to melt you were wrong, if I'm careful to not put the fork in my mouth i could eat with normal forks without problems. I just have to be careful when i take food with my lips without dipping it into saliva. ¨ He showed a smile full of pride, full of satisfaction such as the one shown when one goes a step ahead of the rest and know that no one had guessed what had said , he loved to be famous and that surely was worth of a smile . He grabbed the camera back,as he look at the screen he find that was time to go out. residents would want to use the kitchen and soon would transforms this quiet place in a small field of battle, sometimes they had food wars. meaningless waste... while he went outside the take an apple for later.
She polished the obsidian dagger with a night black cloth. It was already so clean she could see the reflection of her own bright green eyes, turned up at the corners by her own malicious smile. The polishing was just for show.
“Do you know why you are here?” she addressed the question to her audience; a silver haired elf, a boy with hair blacker than even her knife, and an Asian boy whose skin was picking up the colorlessness of the damp brick sewer wall behind him. All three were tied and gagged. They wouldn't be answering, but that was okay, because the question was also just for show too.
She twirled the handle of the knife, inspecting it from every angle. “You see, I have a bit of a problem,” anger hissed through her words even though she tried to keep her voice as steady and calm as possible. “The three of you have failed me. This isn't something I can accept.”
She swung the knife, hard, and it embedded itself up to the hilt in something soft. Dark liquid splashed her, but she didn't care. All she could do was laugh. This was what happened to those who betrayed her. ...
“Nooo,” she moaned, but it was too late. The dagger had already sunk deep into its target. The laughing girl with the green eyes turned to look at her.
“It's too late, honey,” she smiled with teeth that were much too white and eyes that were much too green. “You can't take back what you did now. It's over and you can't change a thing.” Her laughter filled the sewers, echoing off the hard bricks and pounding against her ears like bullets. --
Katrina sat straight up in bed, panting and clutching at the teddy bear she never slept without; a gift from someone when she had been most alone. Her heart thundered in her chest as if she had been running a race. She could feel the dream fading away from her memory, almost gone now but no less horrifying.
She fumbled for her alarm clock, her eyes still seeing unclearly from her sleep. It took several blinks to get the numbers to make any sense to her; it was still pretty early but not worth trying to go back to sleep, especially if she was just going to slip back into the terrors of her own dreamworld again. Instead of crawling back under the covers, she slipped on a soft bathrobe over her nightgown and slippers over her bare feet. Kenzie lifted her head from her sleeping spot on top of a pile of Katrina's clothes. The clean ones and the dirty ones had gotten a little mixed up, but it didn't matter much to the dog; that spot was her second favorite after the end of the bed. Unfortunately for her, Bruce had taken that spot last night. He kept snoring on the bed, Kenzie stretched out, yawned, and followed her little blonde owner out of the room.
After a dream like that Katrina didn't want to be alone. A dog or two was good company, but talking to someone would help distract her from thinking about the dream and the events that had undoubtedly contributed a bit of their reality to the surreal. She would much rather go on pretending that none of that had happened at all. Fausto at least had been making that easy by not being around all week.
Katrina wandered toward the kitchen. That was always the first place anyone went if they were the first person awake. If there was conscious company to be had, it would be in the kitchen. She was about two feet from the swinging kitchen door when someone came out holding a video camera and an apple. It was Fausto. Their paths had to cross at some point, and it seemed like fate would have it be now.
“Oh. Good morning,” Katrina looked at her slippers and shuffled to the side so he could have all the room he needed to walk right past her if he wanted. Kenzie, however, was perfectly content to block his way and even tried to sniff at the apple he was holding. That was food right? She wagged her tail.

"Oh. Good morning, " She said but for Fausto it could have been a declaration of war or a curse by the wicked witch because those casual words stabbed him deeply .He could not decide easily when the situation concerned her, what could he do ? He could walk pass her, walk away without speaking to her but that would hurt her but also him anyway he did not have to look at his feelings, or it would happen again. If he escaped , at some point they will re-cross paths again ... He didn't know for certain but he swear that his face had turned white as a sheet when he saw her coming, He had planned not to cross paths with her. He always went to the kitchen at that time because no one was there and then when everyone got up he went to his room to wait for begin of classes, He did not attend to classes often so it was easier to avoid her while she was studying.
¨Kat ... ¨ The little singer muttered scared and surprised. when he realized it Fausto quickly pronounced her complete name while turning off the camera clumsily. He did not feel right calling her fondly. ¨Katrina , I'm.. I was ...¨.meaningless speech trying to explain why he was there like she was scowling him for just being standing in front of the door . It was incredible how much damage some hours had caused to him , the overconfident boy was not confident now . Fausto stared at her embellished by her beauty , he could not help it . His head said Run! but his heart plotted to break through his chest to try to leave his body and get closer to her, It would be very funny if his heart jumped out of his mouth and fell to her feet. Well not so funny.
The apple turned around in his hand while he anxiously played with it. The worst friend of all times desperately wanted to hug her, to ruffle her hair as usual, also to tell her that he had missed her presence a lot but he could not. So he duck in front of Kenzie as his brightless eyes snapped her at constants glances and then hugged Kenzie doing what he could not or refused to do with Katrina . Kenzie was very happy with the gentle voice of the child talking to her and wagged his tail vigorously from side to side ... perhaps she had missed him as well , perhaps she was trying to bite the apple that he tried to keep away from her reach. It was quite difficult as Fausto was acting all clumsy for being near the person he loved without even being able to ask a thing ...
Who says that the Thought is much faster than for example a voluntary action of the body? At the moment we want to move our fingers they just move, Thought or Orders to our bodies travels at lightning speeds between synapses and synapses ... But not for the little boy that have not the slightest idea of what to do ,For him the thought was not that fast. Miraculous a voice uttered what he wanted to ask.¨How are you? What are you doing this earlier in the morning?I was expecting to avoid you at this hour ...¨ It was his voice! When he realized he had said so, it was late to go back. It was a suicide to said that , she surely was going to scream at him , luckily Mondragon Labs find the way to clone a heart . Cursed was his voice,seven times cursed for acting quicker than his brain.
Katrina wished he would just ruffle her hair or give her a hug like he used to do, but she had quite possibly ruined any chance of that happening again. She had said a lot of things that she shouldn't have said and had hurt him pretty badly with her words. She was afraid that things would always be like this now, strange and awkward silences where neither of them knew what to say to the other.
At least he didn't mind Kenzie being her ridiculous self. The silly dog was trying to get his apple when she probably couldn't even eat an apple without someone at least cutting it up for her. It was almost funny to watch Fausto clumsily greet the dog while still holding his video camera and his apple all the while trying to keep the golden retriever from trying to get her teeth into the red-gold fruit. But this wasn't really a laughing situation. Kenzie didn't seem to agree, as she was doing her best to make things as humorous as possible; in one final effort she tried to leap up and snag the apple, but Katrina darted in with her hand and grabbed it out of Fausto's hand and out of Kenzie's reach before the canine could slobber on it.

Oh. Katrina's face fell. She had almost smiled at the antics of the dog and the boy, but all traces of it vanished before ever having a real chance to appear in the first place. She hadn't realized he had been avoiding her on purpose, not that she blamed him.
“I suppose I'm alright,” she held out the apple for him to take it back no that it was no longer in danger. The tone of her voice didn't quite agree with her statement. If she sounded saddened and disappointed, it was probably because she was. She hadn't meant to push Fausto away, and yet she had no idea what to do to make amends.
“I'm sorry to get in your way. I'll just get some breakfast and leave you alone if that's what you want.” It meant she would still be alone, but more than she dreaded being by herself she wanted to avoid causing him any more pain, especially if just seeing her was enough to trigger it. She watched his feet and waited for him to take his apple back. She didn't dare look at his face for fear of the hatred or the hurt she might see there.

“I suppose I'm alright,” The sad tone of her voice melted his heart. Maybe after so many bumps, scratches and falls on his adventures Iron Mouth had developed a taste quite particular . a little masochistic but Wasn't worth to suffer for her? A look in her eyes was enough to know it was worth enough .Even when he could repent of it later , He did not know for sure. What was certainty for him at the time? . Absolutely nothing. “I'm sorry to get in your way. I'll just get some breakfast and leave you alone if that's what you want.” Fausto seemed to be afraid of that creepy silence and when it started to take control of the situation he was glad to broke it . ¨ You should knew it already , to be alone is what i hate the most in the world ... ¨ A prudent silence, some extra time that will accommodate both ideas as they were making a complicated puzzle were should fit similar feelings and other very different. As always Iron Mouth broke the silence, someone once told him that was like a machine gun of words, well that really fit with him . ¨Do you remember the first time we met? Why things changed so much? I did not want to hurt you but it seemed like everything I've done so far seems to be wrong even when I thought that it was not. i avoided you in order to not hurt you, since it seems that i do everything wrong without even noticing . ¨ A long sigh stretched the end of the final word and something strange happened to him, he smiled serenely .The last week helped him to accommodate his ideas because the fact Katrina listed was just as she said , he disappeared often and she could not even know where he went or the purpose of his trips. Iron Mouth had grown more in that week than in the past months, his ego did not allow him to see he really was not paying close attention to what she needed, she had been very clear. She did not need a boyfriend, just a friend. Without ego, he was depressed and luckily it helped the little singer to realize that she was right, Katrina that was even younger than him , knew exactly how things should be or should not be.
Kenzie happily wagged his tail expectantly near the apple his mistress hold in her hands.Kenzie was carefully to kept away, perhaps Katrina had taught her to not steal food, at least not from her ... The dogs had it easy, if they were happy dogs just wagged their tails, if they were scared dogs hide it between their legs ... people would understand better wearing a tail like that of dogs, also theirs ears help. It would be easy to guess when a person is sad, happy or angry in a function of these two signals. If Fausto were a dog, what kind of dog could him be? Anything but a poodle... Which one could be her?
He slowly walked toward the little princess , it was so painful to saw her in that way ... He needed to do something , but what? Anything! He did what was usual for him , he talked to her again trying to use a soft tone and trying to show Kat he really pay attention to her . ¨Do you notice that when someone puts you in an uncomfortable situation you stare your feet?¨ The temptation was bigger than he thought, he could not saw that angelic face so sad for more time , and did not mind getting hurt again when he could try twice as hard to not hurt her again. Temptation won over will ,his hand ruffled her golden hair while he spoke ¨Do you want to know where I traveled and why? ¨ He did not wait her response, she already had said she wanted to know and he had refused but Slate and his policies could go to hell,Katrina should be an exception to all of the Kabal's rules. ¨ Then you'll help me with what I was doing ... " Lifting his hand he shook the camera softly .¨ But before I am going to prepare a breakfast for you to forgive me, please accept. ¨ He opened the door for her as his eyes begged like those of a little puppy . These black eyes screamed for her to accept, if she doesn't accept was because she had no heart.
Katrina shifted her weight from one foot to the other while she continued to hold out the apple. She remembered that he didn't like to be alone, now that he said it. It was the reason he didn't think it would be very pleasant to be invisible, and the reason they had held hands the one time she had made them both invisible to go to a funeral. She should have remembered it without the reminder. She wiggled her toes up and down first on one foot, then on the other, in an imitation of a caterpillar's footsteps. Fausto broke the silence before she could think of something else to say.
She shrugged shyly, still not meeting his eyes, when he wondered why things had changed between them. She thought about it for a moment before coming up with an answer that she thought might have been the reason for the changes, but she chose not to say it out loud; he was growing up faster than she was. Fausto was in a band, spent his time trying to change the world, and fell in love; Katrina was still just a kid. They had times when they could be just kids together, but at other times Katrina wasn't ready to be grown up with him. At least, not quite yet.

She had already been feeling guilty, but that drove it home like a hammer on the head of the last nail on the lid of a coffin. He had been trying hard. He had called her and tried to visit her when she hadn't wanted visitors. He had been doing his best and she had gone and said that his best wasn't good enough for her. She brought her hand with the apple back to her chest and drew patterns on its skin with the forefinger of her opposite hand. How was she supposed to apologize for that? She couldn't hug him, because it seemed like he didn't want her hugs any more. Simply saying the words seemed meaningless, but it was the best she could do.
“I'm sorry... You never hurt me when you are with me. Confuse me, but don't hurt me.” It hurt much more when he wasn't there.

Her toes wriggled in discomfort, but she couldn't look at them now. Without anywhere else to direct her ashen gaze, her grey eyes were drawn to the dark pools of Fausto's eyes. He seemed to be... content, not still sad and hurt. He wore a tentative smile that made his eyes shine with hope even though it was small. She swallowed and tried to return the smile, earning a hair ruffling for her efforts. She nodded when he asked if she wanted to know where he went. Of course she wanted to know. She nodded again, just as enthusiastically for breakfast, then on impulse threw her arms around him for a quick hug.
“You were already forgiven, even without breakfast.” A moment's pause before she went through the door to the kitchen, then, “Will you forgive me, too?” She was just as imperfect as he was.

She seemed so fragile, and even more when she apologized to him as if she were guilty of everything that had happened, the fault was only of Fausto . In his head the words ¨When you are with me ¨ were stained red, these were enlarged to fill all his mind and then on these appeared a violent underline that demolished the bunker he was building in his head to not leave free what was still just there, Iron Mouth feared that those words never disappeared from his head as the constantly reminded announced . ¨ Someone who is actually here for me all the time without disappearing. ¨ It was a cursed for a vagabond by nature , a child too restless to stay in one place for a long time but he would do it gladly for Katrina, as someone could avoid to be not carried away by that so soft voice of her , his heart shook of joy whenever she was near. She could guided him toward a large cliff, or toward the hell itself and he could never notice it .
If some of his heart had not been melted by her sad voice, this time she raised the bet melting it all with a quick hug that he returned immediately, Fausto pressed her against his chest as if he had not seen her in years and whispered these words that both were accustomed to say ¨I missed you. ¨ Surprising these word did not lost significantly each time it happened again, and there were many times that they uttered these words after every trip or week without seeing each other because of his illness that prevented him from being long in one place.
"You were already forgiven, even without breakfast." ¨Even if you Forgive me you will not avoid my breakfast ... ¨ Iron smiled gently when she said so , it was everything he hoped to heard, but why he still felt like a traitor? She had forgiven him but he had not forgiven himself, What was needed for him to forgive himself? Then she asked and he answered , first with a slightly mischievous smile that softened with a wink and then with a little joke ¨ If you survive my cooking skills, I will forgive everything. ¨ With the hope that she caught the message to forgive him for any failure in the breakfast's flavor he was going to start.
It was easy to cook for himself, it was much easier not to, because with his skills he could have eat anything like raw things ,or others even in a state of decomposition or burned for example, breakfast did not burned as often as before but sometimes it still did it , Dubby helped him a lot, he liked to cook and had an ace under his sleeve that even Iron Mouth could cook, without being an expert. ¨ Kat you should eat the apple while you wait. A apple a day keep you healthy. ¨ The child who had feared to not be able to smile again was smiling to those green eyes that looked so adorable ,he turned a little red when he noticed that he was looking at her instead of starting with breakfast, and with blush on his cheeks Fausto started to search for all the ingredients. He did it quickly 'cause he knew the kitchen very well. Vanilla yogurt, cinnamon, eggs, butter. The boy moved fast but he stopped quite often to check all the steps mentally, it was an easy recipe but his guest deserved a splendid breakfast. He usually does not cook for himself a lot or with so much enthusiasm , in the end all the food melted quickly with just seconds to taste the flavor .He beaten the eggs in a bowl with lot of careful to not spill anything out of it , then he added the quarter teaspoon of Cinnamon he had already prepared , he also added the yogurt and continued beating until all was mixed , when Fausto checked his mental list again he find that he had forgotten an ingredient, honey , he looked for it and added it to the preparation. ¨ I thought you hated me ... I believed you did not want to talk to me again. ¨ It hurt when he uttered those words after she already said she forgive him but he seemed to need to erase all trace of doubt because he had not forgiven himself yet . Carefully slices of bread were placed in the preparation, he dipped these for both sides and put the dipped slices apart and continued until there was no more bread to dip.
Softened butter landed in the heated pan, the stove was set to medium as the great chef Dubby recommended and every slide had was fried for a few minutes. Almost 4 minutes . ¨ I wanted to make a short movie for my fans ... it was supposed to be a day in my life. I could not do it in classes so i was going to skip all of them for today, if you want to come with me you must skip all of them too. ¨ It was not a trial of confidence, it was just that she liked school much more than him that he felt like warning her about it ,he did not wish to give a negative message to his fans saying they did not need to go to school. As he spoke the final slices of toast were put on plates, most were for her but he keep some that had been over toasted. ¨ Here you go, good luck. It was nice to met you. " Even when he knew that he had not do it badly he wanted to see her reaction, although he said it with a smile and a pleasant tone quickly realized that such malicious jokes maybe could reminded her about his captor. ¨ Is a joke Kat, is not poisoned , i don't want us to end like Romeo and Juliet ... ¨
Katrina nodded. They had said that so many times. Perhaps that was just the way it always was with mutants. Humans could stay in the same place their entire lives, but mutant had to wander. There was something in their genes, it seemed, that forced them to seek new horizons once in awhile, then come back again to old stomping grounds.
The jokes about breakfast made her smile again, and she didn't feel like she had to look at her feet again.
“If I die from your breakfast, I'll write you out of my will,” Katrina joked back. She didn't have a will, or anything to leave to anybody. Nor would she be able to make changes to a will after she had already died, but that was beside the point. She didn't really think she had to worry about it; Fausto was putting together ingredients like a professional chef. Katrina certainly never would have thought to put cinnamon in eggs. She wasn't sure what he was making until he started dipping bread into the egg mixture.
“French toast!” She liked french toast, it was one of the breakfasts Hans used to cook on mornings when Katrina was home sick from school; he always made her feel like a princess and sometimes her butler had seemed more like a member of her family than an employee of her parents.

Katrina frowned at him, her brow crinkled; she couldn't figure out how he could have come to that conclusion. “No, I never could hate you. I only... I didn't mean to yell, I was just feeling frustrated and shouldn't have said what I did. I understand that you can't always be tied to one spot. You've got important things to be doing with the band and... whatever else you do... when you're away.” She really didn't know much about why he left. She had assumed it was for something to do with the band, but she wasn't sure. If that was all it was, why was it such a big secret before?
The toast fried in the pan and Katrina wandered closer so she could stand behind Fausto and watch the process. Each side browned slowly, so it wouldn't burn.
“Wait a minute. If you are making a movie about your life, shouldn't you go to class to show what that is like?” She was kidding, of course. Classes didn't even start until next week, but Fausto probably hadn't been paying attention since he never went anyway. If it had been a school day, Katrina knew which classes she would be skipping; math, physical education, and self defense. She didn't really think it was necessary to be doing two physical classes per day and math... math was math.
“Sure, I'll help with the movie.” Katrina took her plate with the newly finished french toast slices on it and grabbed the syrup from the refrigerator on her way to one of the tables. “If I don't die, that is.”
She took a big bite and dripped syrup on her chin. Whoops! She reached for a napkin to wipe it off; she was not being very lady-like this morning. “Sorry, I'm a mess,” she mumbled with her mouth half full before she swallowed and started cutting her next piece.

Luckily the jokes worked and had not produced the negative effect he wanted to avoid because even though these were jokes some could make her remember what she lived. But it did not, she even responded to the joke with another one ... Would her heart be in that will? The singer felt like a professional cooker although he could only make that recipe of French toast but judging Katrina's exclamation she liked them .Could him become a famous chef only with that recipe? Fausto doubted it but the idea seemed so funny. That whole situation made him though he would have been a good brother, a little cruel sometimes and not very present ... Maybe if Fausto forgot his feelings could become her elder brother, at least virtually because he would not change his surname to Dumonde ... Nor she was going to change hers for Martense . Katrina Martense . Although it gave him another curious idea but this time more predictable , he could be a good husband ... in the future . She would make a perfect wife too .
"It is not as important as you ...¨ Fausto muttered a bit embarrassed as he realized that his mouth backfired at him, he just said these few words as she spoke, every word lighted his heart little by little, this time even his heart allowed him to forgive himself with the condition of not forgetting what he had done wrong. She really wanted to know where he went, it was not fair that she did not. And he could not allow injustices. Then Fausto just let his head nod with a smile as she accepted the proposal of the video and take the breakfast, he was in autopilot trying to think until he replied again with a smile but even more enjoyable as she wiped her apologies about the syrup.
¨ This is complicated to explain ...¨ He said as he took one of his toast, which was instantly melted in his mouth so he did not needed to keep talking with his mouth filled though his face showed disagreement with this fact. He really wanted to munch toast as her sometimes. ¨ Cooking for me is a waste of time ...¨ He was still trying to accommodate his thoughts and give them an order to things about what could afford to say and what not, anyway he did not know all the details , it was difficult to start... His eyes admired each item in the kitchen as if it were technological marvels or as if one of these were one of the seven wonders of the world. When? Where? How? Who? The questions were arranged in his head trying to organize his thoughts as files . ¨ The last two times I left the mansion i went to Columbia ... I dunno if I should mention you all this ... but you deserve to know where I go and why. Maybe my boss would be crazy if he finds ...¨ Fausto laughed at the only mention of it , he would love to see some flashes of emotion on his face. ¨ I do not think so . I never saw him angry about something. ¨ He commented as he nodded slowly remembering all the times his boss may been angry with him, and he did not do anything . ¨ Everyone knows we rebuilt a school but what no one does know is how we put some stability in the country. I did not know the details myself ... but some military bases were captured and then armed conflicts dropped. ¨ Today his mind played tricks on him leading him into thinking different things, many completely opposite or impossible even some complicated and intelligent ones ,This idea was not one of the last group but his mouth desired to expose it . ¨I bet you could fall in love with my boss , Slate is so calm and he is also a healer... He could always protect you and heal every wound.¨
She could see what he meant. A piece of toast dissolved in his mouth as easily as cotton candy. It was like so much flavored air, gone before he really had a chance to taste it. Maybe she could do something about that.
"Here, try this," she commanded. She handed him a piece of toast that hadn't been on her plate before. It wasn't real, but she was trying to make it seem more real than real for him. The illusion toast felt like real toast, and smelled like it too. She wanted to see if she could make it taste real as well.
"Chew carefully." She watched as he took a bite and imagined what taking a bite of toast was supposed to feel like. As he moved his jaw, she imagined the feeling of food squishing slowly between teeth, little by little rather than all at once. She imagined the taste, sweetened with syrup and spiced with cinnamon.
She scrutinized his progress so she could accurately convey the feelings and tastes as he chewed. Her visage showed her concentration until he had finished and she relaxed again.
"So, I still have a question." Or maybe a couple of questions. He said he had been in Columbia. That was where they had held the Youth For Change Conference that she hadn't been able to go to. That obviously wasn't the only thing that had happened there. A conference, a school rebuilt, armed conflicts dropped, military bases, stability achieved.
"What kind of school did you build? And why a school?" She didn't understand how that all fit together? And Fausto had a boss, that had coordinated all of this? He certainly had been busy with more than just the band. Stability was a good thing, much better than the chaos of the drug wars and mafia-like killings and all the other things her mother had sited for reasons Katrina couldn't go to the conference in April.
"Wait, Slate?" Katrina blinked several times trying to get that newest piece of the puzzle to fit with the rest. Slate had said he inherited control of Mondragon Labs Medical. What business did a medical company have in Columbia? And what business did Fausto have working for a medical company?
"I don't understand. Why do you work for Slate and what could he want with Columbia?" The longer she stared at the pieces to the puzzle, the more it seemed that the pieces didn't belong together. Someone had taken random pieces from ten different puzzles and thrown them together in a pile for her to solve and she couldn't for the life of her solve the disjointed mess.

"Here, try this," Katrina offered one of his toast as she knew how he felt, Fausto took it with an innocent smile of disbelief but her kind gesture would not help a lot . Could goodness cancel the mutant gene? Is goodness able to stop one of the world's most dangerous substances? Katrina's kindness did it .For the child certainly started to enjoy the flavors and sensations of the French toast as if he never had the destructive saliva in his mouth . Suddenly he understood everything, or almost everything. In fact he had never asked her . What if her ability to turn invisible was not in the manipulation of light ... What if is some way to manipulate the senses, then no one would see her ... The projected virtual reality memories in their minds had not been the work of Kaz, but hers. He enjoyed every bite, knowing that the little girl there was doing it true . She made those feelings to be so accurate, toast cut as usually under the pressure of the teeth, the taste of syrup, honey, cinnamon. All those flavors that she had experienced were paid and returned to him . [colo=blue] ¨ Thank you very much, Kat. It was awesome, i really missed these sensations. You really grew a lot since we first met. ¨ [/color] Iron knew that Katrina would not appreciate if he told her that her genes were evolving. if she was into that sort of thing it was because her genes were still evolving as those of many other mutants who discover new skills or more refined forms of the same. He took another one of his toast, and this one was dissolved as fast as the first, it should be made of reinforced steel to last a few seconds more in his mouth, it was like to leave an ice cream in the Sahara desert at noon. Maybe faster ... The feelings were so different.
The puzzles were always able to being solved though some could seems like really impossibles to do . each piece fitted perfectly if these were decodes .Not just a part but all the puzzle . It is like trying to make match the pieces of a puzzle to show you a landscape or scene when all you have is a small stretch of blue sky above and green grass down but nothing in between having enough sense to unite heaven and earth. Alexandrian solution. Alexander the Great solved an impossible problem, he must untie a knot. the Gordian Knot. Seeing that he could not do it in the traditionally way , he just cut the knot in half. That shows that even almost impossible puzzled have a solution. Although not entirely correct.
While his ear caught the questions his mouth quickly responded, firing back. Fausto still have the sensation of toast in his mouth ... not really there but he remembered these feelings , It had been a long time since he eat a normal meal that he could barely remember the fond memories she had given him.
¨ A normal school, but I believe that hit two birds with one stone. With that Slate was well received and have an alibi and also claimed that the only way forward is to study, believe it or not i helped myself with the children that dropped out of school ... Incredible, i never attend classes. ¨ At last after so long he could give her a sincere smile full of joy,he finally pulled off that weight. Finally,he was telling all to someone else The clip was out of bullets, it landed on the floor as the new clip quickly entered and Iron Mouth began to fire again with his usual rapidity words. He spoke quickly, he was like the wonderland's rabbit looking at the watch so often, but he was less freaky and spoke with true.
¨ Do you know Slate? I never expected that ... I said it accidentally ... but still Did not you realize why , Kat? I am working for him because he also seeks a better world for all ... Isn't it our dream? yours and mine. Maybe you should talk with him about our ideals ... we helped a lot in Columbia. I guess healers fix things. he is fixing things. ¨
If he had come so far, he was suppose to remain true to her. It would hurt her , also him but he could not turn his back on a world that is coached irretrievably into the abyss. His face became serious while his singing voice announced which would be painful for both. ¨ We are going to Romania soon. ¨ So he was thinking something when it came from his lips, his heart really was willing but his brain told him that after all it would be dangerous, like the previous mission had been. Perhaps this might be more dangerous. . ¨ Come with me . please ¨
Katrina blushed at Fausto's compliments about how much she had grown. Perhaps she had a little bit; she had certainly practiced a lot.
"My version of French toast won't be very filling," she admitted honestly, trying to downplay her accomplishment, though secretly she was glad he enjoyed it. Now that she was no longer concentrating on his chewing, she went back to eating the remaining slices that rested on her plate. They had gotten just a little colder, but she enjoyed them even more than she had the first bites, perhaps because she wasn't taking for granted the simple act of chewing.
At the same time, she listened to Fausto's further explanations. At the mention of building a school, the faintest shadow of a memory flickered across her consciousness for a moment, then was gone. Pax. She didn't know what it meant. It left her feeling a little saddened for what might have been without even knowing why. Somehow, she felt left out that she hadn't been able to help, as if she was supposed to have been there but for some reason wasn't.
Fausto revealed more of the puzzle pieces, but there were still some missing. Words like "kill two birds with one stone" and "alibi" seemed like they still didn't belong in this picture. Katrina chewed thoughtfully, turning over her food in her mouth even as she chewed on the new ideas Fausto presented.
It seemed odd that two boys who had skipped all their classes last Spring would be doing so because they were convincing young Columbian children that education was vital. "You did a good thing, to start a new school and convince students to study there," Katrina nodded in approval, but her face was still thoughtful.
She knew Fausto wanted to make the world better, but she wasn't sure that she agreed with the methods he had described to her in the past. Conquering the world and forcing peace down people's throats still seemed like it wasn't the best option to her. She and Slate had a similar discussion once, too. Or she and Calley had. Back then it had kind of been both of them at the same time. All they had come up with was a rather idealistic plan to teach children peaceful ways from the very beginning rather than trying to force adults into it later on.
Maybe that's why Slate had started a school in Columbia where they needed peace so badly. Maybe that was the two birds with one stone. One bird was the children and one was the adults. The school could teach peace from an early age onward; as for the adults, they could use force to hold them in place and keep them from destroying their world until their children were old enough to make peaceful choices for themselves. Heaven and earth drew closer together, the idealistic pieces and the realistic pieces started to look like they all might belong together after all.
Katrina was skeptical, though. Would something like that work on a scale as large as a country? Was doing something like that right; was taking away the freedom of a country the best way to find peace? What happened if the children made a mistake and made things worse instead of better? Mistakes on the scale of countries were very large mistakes. If their intentions were good, was it better to try to make a difference? Or was it better not to meddle for fear that something could go horribly and irrevocably wrong? Images of a war she had never seen and dead faces of people she loved but had never known flashed past her inner eye and she shivered, again without really knowing why.
Slate was a healer, but could all the cancers in the world be healed or would cutting out the tumors leave a world so weakened that it could no longer live?
She would have to wait and see.
Fausto's announcement that they were going to Romania caught her off guard so she almost choked on her last bite of French toast and had to take a quick drink of water to recover. He was leaving again? The disappointment had just barely registered in her mind and hadn't yet registered on her face when he offered to take her with.
"Really?"
She wouldn't have to suffer through another long and boring wait while half the people she knew were gallivanting around in another country. If Slate and Fausto were going, surely there would be others as well. Two teenaged boys couldn't fix a country's problems all on their own. If she went along she could see first hand what they were up to and decide for herself what she thought about their efforts. And she wouldn't have to miss Fausto. Though, from the sound of it, she would be missing Koga. Apparently she couldn't have everything exactly the way she wanted.
Katrina nodded carefully, "Okay. I'll go." Her mother was going to kill her when she found out. Especially so soon after... what had happened. This was something she needed to do, though. She could prove that she could take care of herself. The prospect of such an adventure was already making her feel a little bit more like her old self again rather than the melancholy malcontent she had been all summer.
