The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Calley
The poor dear.
Her room in the Mansion was empty—cleared out, though fairly recently. He had knocked, but no one had answered; he had tried the knob, and it had been unlocked. The bed had been made up in the standard white sheets, waiting for a new occupant. No one new had moved in yet. Her smell still lingered.
How very dreadful.
The male’s room had been empty, too, in much the same way. He had checked by way of confirmation: it wasn’t as if he cared about that one. Pfft. But he had caught a whiff of something most unpleasant, while he was investigating.
She needed rescuing.
Dog. Husky. Young, though full grown. Dog fur still wantonly strewn over the carpeting, as if the beast hadn’t given a thought to the proper targeting of clothing and pillows; the faint acidic smell of unsanitary accidents when it had been smaller and perhaps deemed cuter. Dogs. They lacked in the basic instincts of hygiene; it was not their fault they needed to learn to pee in appropriate places; that they had to be given baths.
Alone with a human male and a canine. It was tragic beyond measure. She was a better person than that: she deserved better. She deserved an animal with a built-in wash cycle; she deserved a courtly creature who would wake her every morning with an affectionately snuggling belly over her mouth and nose.
Ms. Kealey deserved a cat on her window sill, imperiously mewing to be let in. A little white cat with black spots here and there, to be exact. She might recall it. It was a fine and unique specimen of its race, after all.
And it smelled several orders of magnitude better than the other males she was living with.

So far, it was a quiet afternoon at home. This, that, and the other chore had been done, and it was pretty much just time to relax. Shin was out doing something or other, so Kealey was alone. Normally, and in the past, alone had been a good thing. It meant relative quiet in the face of a lot of usual emotional noise. Lately though, being alone just hadn't been as fun.
Panting reminded Kealey that she wasn't exactly alone, and she grinned over at Thor, patting her leg to indicate that he should come and see her, which he did post haste. She scratched his ears, and he grinned his patented doggy grin at her face. This continued for quite some time, and both were happy.
This was okay...lounging on the couch on a day off, hanging out with Thor while Shin was at work. Just okay...but better than being bad...or something.
Then she heard the meowing. "Stay." she said to Thor, marveling at how well he listened as she made her way to the window that shared space with the balcony.
A cat was there, a vaguely familiar one, and Kealey stared at it for a few moments before recognition dawned. She hadn't seen that face in a long time!
"Calley?" she asked, not feeling at all silly for talking to a cat as she opened the window. "Come in!" she said, mild scolding in her tone, "Why didn't you ring up? Have you been sitting out there long?" The blond fully realized that the cat couldn't exactly answer back...but hey, she could try, right?
The cat could indeed answer back! But first, the cat had its priorities. Little pink paws with black pad-tips here and there crossed over the sill, and leapt lightly onto her shoulder. Face snuggle, face snuggle (this allowed his facial glands to properly scent mark her). Tip-toe to the other shoulder, whilst twining the back of her head, and repeat: face snuggle, face snuggle, purr.
“You moved,” the little cat scolded right on back. “Without me. And you got a dog.” It was okay: he was here now. She was no longer alone with the brute.

The cat leaped, and Kealey laughed at the snuggles bestowed upon her by the spotted cat. He really was quite small and quite cute like this. It was far too easy to forget that there was a person hiding in there somewhere. Until he spoke!
Kealey actually jumped just a little when a human voice came from the cat on her shoulder. She had forgotten that Calley could do that, but vague memories were resurfacing now. The kitty had questions and the blond just happened to have answers.
”I hadn’t seen you in the longest time Calley, or I’d have left you a forwarding address.” she said, ”And I didn’t get a dog. Thor was around the whole time, he just lived in Shin’s room.”
This probably required a little more explanation, ”Now we all live here together.” she grinned. ” Isn’t that excellent?”
There, she’d answered all of his questions, and now it was time for her to ask some of her own, ”Where have you been prowling?” He snuggled under her chin, and Kealey laughed, reaching up to give the Calley-cat a scratch behind the ears.

“Prowling? I have not been prowling.” Such an undignified word choice: the little cat had to chastise her gently. “I have been roving, yes; meandering, most magnificently, but never prowling.” This, along with draping himself over her shoulder, answered the question of where he'd been. It was more answer than some people in his life had gotten.
“Thor is Shin's dog?” His tail tip flicked against her arm. “Well then. Clearly, you should get a cat. That would be even more excellent.”
Purr, purr, whisker-grin.
((ooc: Methinks Shin can join the thread any time. ))

Kealey laughed at the gentle correction in Calley-cat’s voice. It appeared that he had not been prowling after all, but had been…”Meandering then…” she corrected. ”Where have you been meandering?” Calley was not going to distract her from her goal of information on his whereabouts. He’d disappeared with nary a trace left behind.
As to Thor, ”Thor is our dog, Calley. Just like this is our apartment.” she corrected in the same gentle tone he’d used on her.
As to being graced permanently by the presence of a cat that was sometimes a young man. “I’m not sure that four in this small space would work. I most definitely wouldn’t mind frequent visitor though!”

Working. An unfortunate drawback to living. The need for food outweighed many lesser wants. The want to be at home with his girlfriend, though, made a stunning argument on why it should tip the scale.
A long day of work. That's what Shin ultimately had to live with. Work, and bringing home bacon, among other types of food.
Shin reached the door with a grocery bag in each heavy arm. He strained for a key somewhere in the depths of one blue denim jacket pocket, failed, and did as many in his situation were oft to do: He knocked. With his foot. On the door. Loudly. Then grunted in waiting for the door to swing open and help to arrive.

Conversation was interrupted. It didn’t seem that Kealey was meant to find out exactly where it was Calley had been meandering. Maybe she’d be able to ask later, after she answered the door, that knocking had sounded strange.
Kealey made her way to the door, Calley-scarf firmly in place as approached and turned the lock and handle. Shin was there! With groceries!
”Hey! she said with a grin, snagging one of the bags from Shin and giving him a quick kiss on the cheek.
”Look who came to visit!” she added, turning to the side so Shin could see her kitty scarf before she made her way to the kitchen. ”It’s Calley!”
“Hey!” The little white scarf with black spots here and there echoed. “Welcome to our apartment! Isn’t it nice?”
It even came complete with grocery delivery services. The blue-eyed cat merrily fanned its whiskers next to Kealey’s cheek; its purr-box gave her shoulders a complementary massage. A paw may or may not have innocuously batted at Shin’s face as Kealey moved in for the kiss. Just to be cute. It was what cats did.

Shin grinned at the sight of his girlfriend at the door. She was there. To kiss. To help. All was right with the world.
Kealey moved in for a kiss. A paw smacked his face as lips met cheek. The grin faltered as Kealey rescued a bag from his grip.
He watched the kitty scarf retreating into the kitchen, on his girlfriend's shoulders.
The kiss had been accepted. The help, accepted. The visitor/murderer was not.
Shin's good mood lessened. He frowned at the cat, but attempted to play it off as something casual. Not serious. Which is what it might have been.
Who had invited Calley? And since when was this "our" anything for the cat?
Thor seemed to sense Shin's hostility towards the feline. The dog bared his teeth up at the cat. Shin did not growl, but he felt like doing it.
Shin followed Kealey into the kitchen, setting his bag on the counter. Then, he spoke. "Hi, Calley." He said tersely, trying to keep an even tone. "Stopped by for a quick visit, huh?"

Shin was…less than thrilled with subsequent developments after the cheek kiss and grocery bag taking. Apparently there was something wrong with Calley showing up in the apartment. Kealey tilted her head as she sat down the grocery bag, her boyfriend was feeling less than welcoming to their guest.
She looked down at Thor, who instantly put his teeth away at her glance. Apparently neither of her men were thrilled with this development. The blond wondered why.
“It had been so long, I almost didn’t recognize him.” Kealey said, turning back to the groceries and working on unloading them from the bag and into their proper cabinets.
”In fact, he’d been just about to tell me where he’s been when you got home.”

“Quick? Visit? Mrrrm,” the little cat replied with all due catty ambiguousness.
Was that canine threatening him? Well. There was only one response for that. The little cat shivered up to Kealey’s neck even closer, curling a half-foofed tail under her chin. Its baby blue eyes were wide and ever so innocently hurt.
>> ”In fact, he’d been just about to tell me where he’s been when you got home.”
And they were back to that, again. Mrrm, indeed.
“I decided,” the little cat said, drawing its neck up proudly, “to broaden my international cultural understanding. I went to Japan.” Three hours in Narita Airport, Terminal Two: international flights. “Have you ever been there? Lovely country.” Or so the travel guides in the airport had assured him. They had a whole park for deer, with a giant Buddha statue in it. And a lot of festivals that involved lighting things on fire.

It was true. It had been a while since they'd last seen the cat. It had been nice.
The last time the Asian had seen the cat, it had been with Kealey. The cat had been a boy. A boy who had ultimately confessed to murder, after terrifying the living hell out of Kealey with his twisted emotions. Yet somehow, Kealey wasn't treating the boy like a murderer.
Shin wasn't an empath. He couldn't tell what she was thinking. He wasn't even the kind of psychic that could read her mind. All he could do with his power was protect her. If his voice had any edge to it, it was due to that urge to protect his girlfriend from a potentially dangerous killer cat boy. See, his ability to protect came through razor blades? Razor blades. Edge. His tone of voice was this huge pun.
"I've been to Japan." He cut in, eyeing Calley sharply. "In fact, we went there recently, Kealey and I. That we did."
He ultimately failed at trying to hide his hostility.

Under different circumstances, the emotional climate in the room probably would have been fascinating to Kealey. Yeah, definitely would have been fascinating if the feelings of hostility and almost intense protectiveness hadn’t been coming from her boyfriend and at least partially directed at her houseguest.
Kealey got it. Sort of. Yes Calley had been the source of what had ended up being a very dramatic incident, and he had scared her very badly. That had been before she’d realized that the gray areas didn’t just apply to certain people though. It was also something she tried not to think about too much. Surely Calley wasn’t still that person. Something had changed.
At least that’s what she had to think. She was emotionally blind to him while he was in cat form, so the blond really had nothing to go on.
Realizing that she was staring a bit at Shin, Kealey gave him an understanding smile and nodded at his response about Japan. They would talk later. Everything would be fine. Until then, she was simply grateful that Shin was worried about her. It made sense. He'd seen her that night, and let her cry on his shirt until the nightmare had finally gone away. Taking her cue from Shin's words, Kealey spoke.
“We flew into that airport. Tokyo was so big…and so crowded.” The blond shrugged her shoulders a bit, ” I’m glad we didn’t stay there too long.”
”Shin took me to meet his parents for Christmas. It was an amazing trip. Did you just go to sight see?”

“Mrr, sightseeing, yes.” He saw a cool layered building thingie as the plane touched down. And the tarmac! So… concrete! The little cat’s whiskers tickled against Kealey’s cheek as it turned its head back towards Shin.
“So you’re from Japan, then? Really? How long have you been in America?” Calley had been mistaking him for one of those fake Asians. The ones who look awkward in family photos, standing next to their parent’s real children. Apparently he wasn’t adopted from China, then.
Apparently he had some sort of problem with the little cat, as well. Its black tail tip curled upwards in a fine loop, and then straightened again. It stretched with a delicate yawn, its paws reeeeaching down over Kealey’s chest. Then a bit of paw licking, completely relaxed.
