The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Tses was typically an independent person by nature; she lived her life on the streets, and relied little on friendship to get by. Oh, she met people here and there, and those acquaintances sometimes came back around. But she never hung out, went to movies, did things with people like you would with normal 'friends'. The only person she ever saw more than once was Ty, and he was her boyfriend. At least he was. She wasn't really sure what he was anymore, and that was the hardest pill to swallow.
After some stealing, fights and trouble making, Tses still couldn't quite kill the ache in her heart. Her mind kept slipping back to a fire escape, some fireworks, and an empty street with no one coming to see her. She had talked to Ty's sister, and comforted the girl that her brother was probably just busy, but that didn't take away the worries she faced herself. What if Ty never came? He'd missed New Years, and was going to miss the full moon, something she never thought he would. Part of her wondered if he had really left the two girls for good, and part of her wondered if something had happened to him instead. She didn't know whether to be angry, or sad. So she ended up tangled somewhere in the middle.
Maybe that was what drove Tses to her neighbor's room next door. Sitting amongst what felt like hundreds of cats, trying to ignore the smell, she dialed a number from a piece of paper she had shoved into her pocket. It was a bit wrinkled, but she could still make out the words, and that was all she had to do. One digit at a time, she dialed her fate, and stared at the ceiling as she listened to it ring. In her lap, a tiny black kitten mewed and pawed at her shirt for attention. But she ignored it, focusing on the task in hand. After a few moments, there was a click as someone answered, and Tses hesitantly spoke.
"Hey, Chrys? This is Tses.... How do you feel about illegal activity?"
Chrys was getting ready for a night of clubbing, so things were pretty much status quo for her. It was a new year, but it did not feel like it. Dance, drink, seduce, torture. To be honest, she was going through the motions.
In her life, she had several acquaintances who were pretty much just good for a club-hopping affair once or twice a week. The people at work were painfully dull. She had few "friends;" the downfall of a sheltered daughter of a rich family with secrets. There were simply too few opportunities for her to make new female friends, and any men were just too great a temptation. From what she heard, friends did not typically cut up other friends.
Chrys's phone rang, and she picked up, ready to scold her impatient party girls when a different, more exciting voice came through the device.
It had been a while since Chrys's run-in with Tess, and she was not shocked by the girl opting not to call her back, which made even hearing that voice a shock. There was an offer for some illegal activity. It was probably not Chrys's usual brand of pain-inducing mischief, but maybe she needed a break from the norm.
"Um, good! I like it. I mean, I should probably be asking what it is for not getting caught and upsetting my father reasons, but... screw it, I'm in. So what next, do we meet somewhere?" Whatever brand of crime was on the agenda for the night, Tess had the experience, so she would be taking point.
Tses listened to the voice on the other end of the phone, and contemplated how bizarre this felt. It was like calling up the hospital; in her right mind, she would never even consider it, but in her slightly desperate emotional state, it seemed like the ideal thing to do. Plus, the idea of causing trouble relaxed her in a way that was probably unnatural. Then again, this was Chrys, and she seemed to be amused by the concept of other people's pain; perhaps they were both a little twisted. Although, Tses hoped she would never quite get to the other female's level of warped. She was an adrenaline junkie; it was a common but not incurable flaw.
"Yeah, I think that would be easiest. By the mall, there's a convenience store. Rinky dink little thing, only has one gas pump. You should meet me there in like, 15 minutes, but don't go inside right away." She could imagine the place in her mind, a dim little sign that hardly had any flicker to it. Tses had stopped there on her way into town while the cabbie filled his car, and the inside had insane princes on everything. Tses had swiped half a shelf full of candy, and no one had said a word. If anything was the same there, they should be able to pilfer a few things without trouble.
The plan formed itself quite naturally in Tses' mind, and she let the little mischievous imp in her brain take control. As she registered the other part of Chrys' statement, she quickly added, "Oh, and it you're worried about getting caught, bring a mask." She smirked inwardly at the image. Having Chyrs wear a mask seemed like making Tses wear a tiara. It could happen, but only with a bit of fussing.
Chrys was listening attentively to the instructions, already feeling the adrenaline beginning to pump away through her. It was something intriguing, like she was going to be the bad guy in a spy movie, being given a specific set of instructions for a meet. Sure, the crime was probably going to be something small scale, but oh my, she was going to have a "meet!"
"Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Uh-huh." She recognized the store description and would have no problem waiting outside if that was what Tess thought made sense. "Okay, see you soon. Nice to hear from you, Tessie!" Eager to get ready, Chrys hung up immediately.
She sent out a text to one of her party girls with caps lock on. [GO WITHOUT ME. I HAVE BETTER PLANS TONIGHT!] After that, she was pulling away the club clothes she was wearing; they would not be crime clothes. She had to think of what Tess would wear. Unfortunately, she lacked poor clothes. She pulled on dark jeans, and for a top she would stick with a relatively plain tanktop, hiding it under the hoodie of some college kid she... had over at some point.
The mention of a mask was confusing to Chrys, but she did not want to seem unknowledgeable in front of Tess. She had two kinds of masks, and the ones from masquerades were too colorful, she was certain. That left her with a domino mask like the ones used by heroes, villains, and... well, people who were comfortable around chains and leather.
Content with her selection, she shoved it in the front pocket of the hoodie and left for the convenience store, where she stationed herself to the side of the door, tapping her toe excitedly as she waited for her partner-in-crime.
After hanging up the phone, Tses carefully de-tangled herself form the clutches of three different cats, and fished the last kitten from where it was trying to climb up her back. The tiny little black animal mewed sadly, and she smiled, rubbing it behind the ears. While she typically enjoyed hanging around the little animals, right now, cat therapy wasn't going to help. She needed someone she could talk to and get advice back from. Or, if nothing else, get into criminal mischief with.
"Thanks for letting me borrow the phone!" She said to her neighbor, and the older woman smiled and resumed petting her beloved David the cat. With a wave, Tses slipped into the hallway, and shut the door with a careful click when she was sure no animals had snuck out.
Brushing cat fur from her jeans, Tses went back into her apartment and donned her crime gear: full skirt, shirts, boots, and gloves. She contemplated getting some form of mask like she had suggested to Chrys, and then opted for a black bandana square of cloth to at least cover the lower half of her face. As she tucked her metal staff into her boot, collapsed, she glanced at her reflection in the bathroom mirror. She always liked this outfit, and while she had been wearing jeans and t-shirts lately, nothing quite compared to what she felt was her 'battle' outfit. It was cheesy, but she always felt like a comic book vigilante in the ensemble. If the x-men could get away with wearing costumes, why couldn't she? Smirking to herself and giving a nod, she moved out of the apartment, locking it behind her.
The ride to the convenience store was uneventful, a rather surprising turn of events considering her luck with cabbies. She jumped out at the corner, and then moved over to the side of the shop, slipping on the mask before she got within the range of the security cameras. She felt surprisingly sneaky for once, and was eager for Chrys to get here. She hoped that she could at least pull this off without much incident. She would hate to botch up a robbery when she was sort of trying to show off for her new... friend? After the clothing torture, Tses wanted to show even poor people could have fun, and this had to work out. Although the mask still felt a bit silly. It made her nose tickle and her breathe felt hot against her face, while her forehead was getting prickled by the cold. Crossing her arms and wishing she had pockets, she settled back and waited for the arrival of her new partner in crime.
It was probably Chrys's impatience, but she expected Tess to show up sooner than she was. Punctuality had to be just as important in thievery as with anything else, right? Eagerness was a dangerous trait with someone as curious and without restraint as Chrys, but she did her best to keep herself in check; no reason to ruin things before they started.
But... maybe she could peek. Chrys poked her head just far enough around the corner to see through the glass door. There was no one in the store at the moment besides the cashier, so Tess was not starting without her at least. The cashier's head started turning in her direction, so she pulled back quickly with a tiny "Eep!" Not enough to be heard, but enough to leave her feeling silly.
Still thinking she was missing something, Chrys decided to check around the store. The side of the building was sketchy, and the back area with dumpsters was downright filthy. She was ready to reconsider the brash decisions she was making, wondering if Tess was pulling a prank on her, but when she turned the opposite corner back to front of the store, she noticed her friend beside an ice box, pretty much explaining why Chrys could not spot her from the left side of the store.
In a (sort of) hushed voice, she piped, "Tess!" Resistance or not, she pulled the girl in for a quick squeeze of a hug.
Pulling away, she gestured to her apparel. "So is this okay? I don't exactly know what thieves and criminals wear, but I figured it was cold tonight, so... hoodie." She was new to the trade, but she was practical.
Tses had never been great with hugs. She always felt like a limp stuffed animal, hands by her side and face slightly startled. She tried to let it slide, but her skin prickled from the sensation. Glancing at Chrys, she pushed her hair out of her face, and then slipped her bandana down so it rested against her neck. "Hey." She said. At the other girls request, she sized up the outfit... It wasn't bad, but the mask made her giggle. Quite literately; an almost feminine giggle wandered from her mouth before she could stop it, and then it turned into a snort of laughter.
"You got the outfit right hun, but that little mask you got won't cover much. Cute though.... Just keep you head down and don't look up at the cameras.... not that anyone would recognize you at in that outfit though...." She shrugged, and then glanced around the corner of the building while putting her mask back on.. The cashier fidgeted, and glanced at their watch. At this late hour, they would be needing a bathroom break soon, and that was the perfect time to go. Finally, then started towards the back, and Tses mentally counted ten seconds before starting forward.
"Let's go."
Inside the store, she quickly moved back to where the bathroom was, and the door was already shut. The employee was nowhere to be seen, and that confirmed their 'plan' was good to go. Quickly, she grabbed hold of the bathroom door, made a fair sized explosive in her hand, and pressed it against the key slot. Unlike some of her door unlocking tricks, this was one she learned by mistake when experimenting with the technique. Too much force, the bolts gave a small crack as they smashed together inside the door handle, then she waited. From the other side of the door, someone hesitantly tried to give the open it, and then grew more desperate as it stayed sealed. Tses smirked. Sometimes destroying things was much easier than anything else.
"K, you got five minutes. Grab what you want." She said turning to Chrys, and resisting the urge to pull her mask down. She moved back behind the counter and grabbed a plastic bag, then started tossing in a variety of candies.
Tess pointed out that Chrys's mask choice was off, but in her defense, the word "mask" was a vague title. At least Tess was nice enough to call it a cute choice.
After being told to follow Tess in, Chrys nodded and donned her "disguise," which amounted to slip on her mask and flip up the hood of her sweatshirt. Inside, she watched as Tess marched over to the bathroom where the employee had recently entered. It was only a moment later that she watched her partner force the door closed.
>> "K, you got five minutes. Grab what you want."
It took Chrys a second to react. "Already?" Apparently Tess was good at this already, because theft was much quicker than Chrys assumed. Then again, the guy in the bathroom was working the door pretty hard, so it was probably best for things to wrap up quickly.
Tess was focusing on candy, which was delicious, but not really Tess's thing. If she was going to grab what she would enjoy without being judged or looked at, she had a pretty solid idea of what she wanted.
In the back cooler, Chrys opened the door and started shoving bottles of wine coolers into the front pocket of her sweatshirt and her jean pockets. There was only so much she could fit before having a sudden idea.
Checking behind the counter, keeping her face low to avoid any cameras, Chrys found a plastic bag. With that in hand, Chrys was able to return to the cooler and diversify her collection of sweet alcoholic flavors.
Looking over to Tess, pleased with herself and her clinking collection, she asked, "I think I'm ready if you are?"
Candy wasn't the most expensive loot, but it was the funnest. Tses wasn't after value today. She was after entertainment. A handful of gummy bears left on someone's car at night, a few skittles flicked at strangers, and then more to eat. Nonsense like that amused her in a way it probably shouldn't. But Tses was a little childish, especially when her heart was broken. There were no adults in her life telling her right from wrong. So her moral compass was very strongly tilted, and it wiggled whatever way suited her at the time.
In the corner of her eye, Tses saw Chrys raiding the alcohol section, and her curiosity got the best of her. After shoving all the gummy worms she could into the bag, she wandered over and looked at the different colored bottles in the coolers. Picking up one that had a picture of a lemon on it and a black label, she looked at Chrys, holding it up. "This any good? Never did try drinking, but you seem to have a little taste for it."[/b]
It was hard for her to assess the different varieties because of her limited reading, but the lemonade one was the easiest. Then there were some other clear bottled, cans, and more soda near the bottom. Tses didn't feel like soda. She felt like finding something to numb her brain. She felt like doing something different, and this was definitely different.
"And yeah, I'm ready to go." She said, putting the lemonade liquor on top of the gummies, and moving towards the door. In the bathroom, the store employee was still pounding on the door trying to get free. they had made pretty decent time, and now they could find somewhere to look at their spoils.
>> "This any good? Never did try drinking, but you seem to have a little taste for it."
The idea sounded foreign to her ears. After several years of drinking as part of her impressive list of vices, the notion that Tess, who could not be much younger than her, never drinking was almost disappointing. Well, sure, if someone did not need to drink then more power to then, but to never even try it?
Chrys shook her head and grinned. "Oh sweetie, you're so innocent and adorable. You know, besides the crime and stuff." Everyone had their faults. "That one should be good for a beginner." Hard lemonade was a good introductory drink.
Looking at the large collection of drinks she proudly pilfered, carrying them around for more crime would be a challenge. "Why don't we drop off the spoils at my apartment. I live close by and my place would be a pretty damn awesome thief's hideout."
Tses was a bit mollified by Chrys' reaction to her lack of drinking experience, but she could forgive it for now. After all, it was her own fault she'd never tried a drink before, mostly because the only people she'd ever seen drinking were hobos and they certainly didn't seem to be having fun with it. Coming to New York, she caught a glimpse of the night life though, and it made her curious. So she figured, heck, why not. she couldn't feel any worse than she did already, right?
"Innocent and adorable are definitely not words I've heard used to describe me before." Tses said sourly, but just moved towards the door. "But I guess there is a first for everything." She eyeballed Chrys' collection of hard drinks, spirits and whatever she seemed to have collected, and tried not to chuckle. This night could potentially end in disaster if much of that was consumed at once.
"Yeah sure, lead the way. I'm curious to see what your idea of a 'thieves' hideout' would be." She gave a little smirk, and held open the door as they exited. She gave a mock salute in the direction of the bathroom, then stepped into the cold almost frozen air outside. Her face was nipped at, but at least she had the mask on. It made her nose surprisingly warm.
Tess's tone left Chrys feeling a little defensive of her upscale penthouse apartment. "Well, maybe a bit more 'white collar' than 'petty' thief, but I'm sure it's the last place they'd look for two gas station pilferers, so it works."
With the station behind them, Chrys was thankful for the hoodie she decided to bring as poor person camouflage. Had she gone out with the other girls to the clubs, she would be wearing something three times more revealing and four times colder. Her cheeks and nose were still cold, but the area around her eyes was protected well enough by her silly little mask.
Once inside the warm lobby, Chrys muttered out a, "Thank goodness." She looked over to the lobby attendant who was happily absorbed in her magazines. It was going to be her job to watch as people left the apartments for a good time and then returned lit up from that good time; she was probably content to focus on her distraction.
Chrys led Tess to the elevator, giggling once the door closed. "I can see why you like doing this stuff. Kind of a rush!" She was never going to be the one who needed to steal, but on a slow night, it never hurt to have options.
On the top floor, Chrys led Tess through the short hallway to her door at the end. Placing the plastic bag of booze on the ground for a moment, she pulled her key from the pocket of her jeans. With a turn of the knob, they were at "home base."
Picking up the bag and entering the neat, spacious living room with its high ceilings, Chrys moved to the kitchen to store the drinks in the fridge. "Make yourself at home, sweets." Admittedly, the place might not actually resemble anything the street rat would typically call "home."
By now, Tses was in a good mood, so she didn't mind Chrys' comment about her apartment. From the way the girl dressed and behaved, she half expected the walls to be made of diamonds or something ridiculous. Definitely not the typical thieves hideout, which would be to their benefit. Perhaps Chrys was being forward thinking. Only time would tell though.
As they walked, the air was crisp and licked across her skin with it's chilling touch. She enjoyed the way it forced her body heat to the surface. It cleared her thoughts, and she relaxed a bit as she carried her fairly heavy bag of candy.
Reaching the lobby, she glanced around but didn't see much that interested her. The attendant seemed absolutely thrilled to be manning the front desk, and Tses couldn't understand how someone could do things like that for a living. Oh, you just get to sit here and watch everyone else do stuff without you. Oh, she would have at least played practical jokes on people while they went in and out of the lobby or something. But then again, Tses did seem to stay on the wilder side of life. She wouldn't be able to keep a 9-5 job is she wanted to. Something would blow up.
As they always did around her.
"Oh, it can turn you into an adrenaline junkie, especially when you get caught. Like that day at the mall? That was great...." She laughed slightly, and climbed into the elevator after Chrys. It was always odd stepping into one of these contraptions, especially since she took the stairs so often. As it started to rise skyward she flinched ever so slightly as the ground shifted. She didn't know if she liked the sensation it gave her in her stomach, but it was over fast enough, so she decided it was tolerable. Getting this high up would have taken a good amount of time with stairs anyway.
Reaching the apartment, Tses glanced around and had a small feeling of envy. She couldn't imagine living somewhere this big, and the living room felt like it was twice the size of her whole apartment. As Chrys wandered to the kitchen, she dropped her bags on a couch and did a slow turn. "What do you do with so much space...." Tses whispered, a small trace of envy leaking into her words.
Chrys pivoted on her heel to face Tess and her somewhat silly question. What did she do with all that space? It was the living room; obviously she used that space to live; otherwise, what was the point in naming anything?
Still, she had to give some sort of answer to the girl who was clearly outside of her element. "Well, let's see... Relax after work, watch television, torture guys. You know, typical living room stuff." She would be more hesitant to mention the last of her "normal activities," but Tess did not seem like the type to worry too much about the legality of someone's leisure activities.
"We'll go back out in a bit, but first," Chrys grabbed one of the hard lemonade bottles she just deposited in the fridge and tossed it over to Tess in the living room, "We're going to fix your tee-totaling lifestyle." The girl had to have at least one night of experience with alcohol if she was going to be such a delinquent.
Chrys grabbed a wine cooler of her own and twisted the cap off, taking a sweet, fizzy sip. "So I gotta know, what inspired a call to me of all people tonight? Can't imagine you needed help masterminding the gas station heist of the century." Oh hey, that was a pretty clever quip!
Tses had to resist smiling at Chyrs' reaction, especially the last few items on her agenda. Torturing guys certainly wasn't something on the average persons agenda that she was aware of, and certainly wasn't something she considered 'typical'. "Well, each person had their own forms of entertainment... I steal, you torture people. Seems pretty normal to me." Tses said with a little laugh, then quickly reached up to catch the bottle. It stung her palm on contact, and still felt a little chilled. She glanced down at it, shrugging her shoulders slightly.
"Never thought I'd meet someone who tried to make me more corrupt." She smirked slightly, and twisted the top off. Raising it to her lips, she took a swig, and the taste of lemonade with a slight bitter aftertaste lingered on her taste buds. She plopped onto the couch, moving her candy off to the side, and shrugged at Chrys.
"I know it sounds dumb, but I guess I had a break up. Had stuff planned for New Years, guy never showed up. Needed something to help me forget, and I know you seem to live on the more... well, rebellious side of things." She grinned, and took another gulp. She longed for something to help numb her thoughts and make her feel better. She hated this... this feeling of being lost and alone. She wanted anything else.
