Aura had spent months picking through the details and debating with herself, she realized in her opinion that the world had changed, the people had changed, but she had not. Her leaders had changed, their tactics with them and yet had she really made the effort to change with them? Was it not dishonorable for her to cling to the old way's? She was still unsure of just how much Lori's ways actually helped her people, but maybe she could do both. Aura had come to the idea of a fight club off of a flyer she found next to a karate school. She could charge an entry fee and a another fee for people to watch. The winner would get half the total and the house the other half. Aura had also tossed in a thirty pound bag of quarters. Finding a good location had proven the hardest part of the venture. She had to have a place which could not be traced back to sanctuary as well as one where cop's would not swarm. She decided on an old bomb shelter which had never actually been completed, the outer walls were up but none of the room dividers were installed. Aura disliked the place had only two exits, if the cops did come, this would be a bloodbath and Aura knew Lori would not be pleased with that.
She had done her best to spread word of the tournament carefully, mostly through underground contacts she knew. She had not informed Lori wanting the cash to be a surprise for her. If thing's went well Aura would consider making this a frequent thing, after all the fights would help Mutants learn to fight better and thus better oppose the human scum. She made sure word was spread that death was forbidden and that the fights would be either until knockout or surrender, broken limbs though discouraged were allowed. One had to do their best not to restrict the natural flow of battle after all and worrying about minor things such as that would only detract from the experience. Aura regretted she had been unable to find a mutant who could heal others, she knew of two of course but was pretty sure nether cared much for her illegal activates. She had also included that no one could bring weapons or objects not related to their mutations, it was not much of a fight if you simply shot your opponent after all.
Aura had even secured a the cooperation of a few local gang members who wished to see another day. She had employed these as food and drink vendors, though each had a gun they had been graphically told what would happen to them if they considered hurting anyone unless by her order. Opposed at first she had relented on the sale of drugs including M. They had been right the spectator number had grown and so had the prize money. Aura had even worked out through the one 'official booky' in the arena that the Order got a share of that to.These were close to the door, Aura's idea was if police did attack they would die as an early warning system of sorts. She had also rigged a camera just inside the entrances, they were only somewhat hidden and nether actually recorded, instead the pictures displayed on a large flat screen. Also on the screen was a board showing the two brackets of the tournament, the winners of each would fight each other for the $5000 prize and whatever thirty pounds of quarters was.Thick padding had been put down on the floor in the fighting area. Spectator seats were nothing more then a set of bleachers Aura had made from wood. The design was sturdy though rough looking in nature.
Aura stood in the middle of the arena and looked around it was still a little early for the fighters to be showing up, and the gang members she had hired however were on time, though their recreation made Aura nose twitch. She only hoped that by the end Lori would be impressed and her fellow mutants would be a bit stronger for the experience. Kneeling, She pet her pet skunk gently and let a small mouse out from a carrier cage out and watched the skunk go after it, smiling as the skunk christened the arena with it's pray. It was going to be a good day Aura decided and glanced up at the monitor. A tall and slightly fat member of the gang sat reading porn just in the entrance, it was his job to check for weapons that were not related to ones, power and before the location had been given aura had requested they demonstrated they were mutants and what their power was.
The night air was cool on the exposed flesh of Vicente de la Sangre as he rode his motorcycle, tearing it through the night and towards his dark destination. The old assassin had been lying low lately, trying to not draw any attention to himself. It was his pattern. He had just infiltrated this city, after all, and since his job required him to make some rather grisly scenes, it was always best to have a period of quiet before he continued on with his work. Especially since one of his latest job assignments had both gone well and downhill at the same time. Someone escaped who shouldn’t have…someone whom he had terrified…someone who had bested him…
He never liked anyone to best him. It simply was not allowed in his line of work.
“I’ll find you again little piggy,” he mused, “just you wait. And our reunion…it’ll be the sweetest of all.” He revved the engine of his Harley and made a sharp turn down a street effectively cutting off a innocently driving SUV in the process. He greeted the angry honks with a lewd, single digit salute and continued on.
But now Vicente was started to get back into the swing of things. Though the idea of that little escape artist running around, still breathing, irritated him greatly, he knew that would have to wait for now. He would find her again eventually…and this time no more teasing the issue. But for now he needed to start amassing his money again. It was obvious that the man was indeed quite wealthy already, but that was the thin with money…you always want more of it.
That was precisely why Vicente was headed to his current location…a fight club. He had seen many of them before since he came to the city but he figured that now would be the perfect time to actually participate in one, especially since it was a mutant only fight club. After all he enjoyed the chance to openly work out with his abilities. He could always use the practice.
The money already set aside inside the satchel he wore across his chest, Vicente rode on, weaving through the dark corners and alleys of the city that few people dared to tread. A twinge of excitement actually rolled up through his back as he turned the finally corner and arrived at the location…an old warehouse with a bomb shelter that had been abandoned and lost to degradation. He had to admit that if there were anyplace to set up a fight club for mutants, this would definitely be the place.
He turned into the designated parking area, killed the engine, locked his cycle and climbed off. The man was dressed in a large black trenchcoat with no shirt underneath and dark blue jeans. He had left his array of knives back at his own place since no weaponry was allowed at this event. Not that he really needed them. He was just as deadly without.
As he stepped up to the entrance, Vicente arched a brow at the guard who sat there, reading porn. Vicente calmly nudged the man’s chair with his foot, which sent him flailing back, but not enough to really knock him over. The man stood, glaring and sputtering obscenities at Vicente but the old assassin simply smirked and held up his satchel with the money.
“Quit your BS. Just point me in the direction of the admission. I’m here to join the fight.” he then smirked wide, flashing his pearly white canines momentarily as he did so. It was going to be bloody good fun tonight.
Subtlety was something Shane took a great deal of pride in. He always tried to maintain a very low profile, assuming he even ventured out into the public eye in the first place. He was a fan of the shadows, and most of all, he hated being the focus of other people’s attention. Tonight though, he was reluctantly breaking with this mindset. Each step he took seemed to hit him and everyone around him with a low rumble and minor vibrations. He was certain that to everyone else around that couldn’t see him coming, the scene must have been playing out like the tyrannosaurus Rex scene from Jurassic Park.
The bouncer at the entrance carried out his job with the minimal amount of enjoyment he could manage. He patted down the man at the door unenthusiastically, keeping an eye on his magazine sitting open on his chair. Taking the man’s money, his lazy eyes looked up towards the end of the alleyway where Shane was coming around the corner, a heavy thud attached to every slow step.
In order to make the entrance fee, he’d needed to resort to petty theft and looting. He’d managed to get it all, with even a little bit of change, but unfortunately, his three victims didn’t make it through the ordeal. The casualties weren’t entirely his fault. There had been a stranger in the park that had dealt with the first two, and the man’s prompt exit shortly afterward simply left them lying there. He hadn’t really seen any way that he could make things worse for them once they were already dead, so looting didn’t seem like anything to think twice about. Of course, once he spent a little bit of time with the motionless bodies, then more he realized it had been a while since he’d last “eaten,” and lying before him could only really be described as a feast in his books. Taking the three of them into his body, he quickly began to grow larger and faster the he was used to. His body bubbled up and overflowed with new flesh, pouring out of his back like a baking soda volcano. When he was finally able to move again, he came out to somewhere in the area of three times his normal size; which brings us to tonight.
His head was pounding as he slowly worked his way towards the entrance. This much mass was much more difficult to maintain then his normal amount, and it was having a heavy mental toll on him. For the sake of appearances, he was in his human form, but it had been adjusted. He was taller, and with an enormous gut hanging over his waistband, looking quite similar to a muffin top. Aside from the pants, his ripped jacket was the only other article of clothing he had on. Nothing else would fit, which was fine; he hadn’t planned to keep any of it on once the fighting began. Clothes just hindered his power. Regardless of everything else though, all you could think when you laid eyes on him was “big.” He hoped that that would be an advantage for him.
His breathing was fairly labored as he approached the door, the other man now in the building. The bouncer looked him up and down, only moderately more interested then he had been before, but his gaze still hovered around the resting place of his magazine. Shane tossed him a brown paper bag filled with the entrance fee and the man proceeded to pat him down. His head was killing him, and was really feeling like he needed to sit down. This bouncer’s pace was far from satisfactory.
The ‘official booky’ was waiting just inside the doors, behind Ms. Aura’s charming non-profit workers. He himself was a fine specimen: pin-stripped pants and a pale purple vest. Satin, of course. No shoes. A stubby finger pushed his round glasses up on a very broad nose as their first two guests of the evening arrived. One looked gruff and growly; the other prone to going 'teehee!' if his belly-button was pressed.
“Welcome, gentlemen,” the black puma man greeted each, with equal tail-curls of deference. “Good luck in the ring. Care to place a beat on yourself?” He flashed a sharp-toothed grin, his whiskers fanning back. “Or against.”
