The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

IC: The instrumental music that was coming over the speakers leading up to the bands arrival was sending a steady beat coursing through Jacen's body. He could feel the bass subwoofers that probably helped Pulse with his ability. With music like that, noone would even think twice about it if their heart was going slightly faster or slightly slower.
"Hey there sugah." A woman with a southern accent drawled from behind Jacen. Turning he regarded the red head with a raised eyebrow and a slight smile. Why the hell did single men and women always target other singles? Maybe he wanted to be alone for crying out loud! "You looked a little lonely over here. Care for some company?"
"Maybe another time... I'm actually waiting for someone. Rain check?" Jacen asked with a grin. Not bothering to wait for an answer he turned and walked away, making his way over to the crowded bar in order to place his own drink order. If he had thought to look back he would have seen the woman's expression flash through just a trace of anger as well as just a trace of suspicion. Once he was far enough away she snapped her fingers, creating a small flame in her hand before quickly snuffing it out.
"I'll take beer. Whatever's on tap." Jacen ordered as soon as the bartender turned his attention to the new customer, "Thanks."
A few moments later, drink in hand, Jacen wandered along the length of the bar. He was being very careful to make sure that he stayed well clear of all three known mutants in the bar, but he still wanted to be where he could act quickly. So far Lee hadn't said much, except to order her drink and comment about how Tarin was suddenly being flocked by women. Lifting his glass, Jacen hid a smile at the comment while simply taking a sip of the beverage.
The set seemed to take forever to be over but finally the last strains of the guitar were echoing through the building while screaming girls surged toward the stage trying to get the attention of the band members. Pulse played it up, taking phone numbers and kissing hands but soon enough he slipped away from the crowd and off the stage.
"Show time." Jacen muttered as he watched the murderer make a bee line for the ever so attractive Lee, "Stay cool Lee... stay cool."

Tarin realized a few moments after acknowledging the young woman’s presence that he’d made a mistake. He’d made a big mistake. She hadn’t shut up since he’d showed her his tattoos, and now she was showing him hers. They weren’t terrible work or anything, but Tarin was far more concerned with what Lee was doing at that table she’d picked out by the stage. She spoke and Tarin couldn’t help but smile a little bit while wishing he had a mic too. Tarin didn’t get a chance to be amused for long, though because almost immediately after Lee spoke to him, Pulse and his band made their way to the stage and started to play.
As far as live bands went, they were good. Tarin wasn’t going to deny that, and the guitar player obviously knew what he was doing. The base undertones in their songs were strong and steady and Tarin could almost see the girls in the audience reacting as song after song in the set played through. Lee was doing her job well, Tarin could see her making eyes at the man on stage and he could see him looking back. Lee wasn’t going to have any trouble pulling off her end of the deal, Tarin just hoped that everything else would go according to plan.
Casting a look around the crowded room as the music ended, Tarin spotted Jacen making his way down the bar and the spirit hovering by one of the doors. A quick mental command later, and it moved towards Lee, where it would stay until Tarin told it otherwise. Pulse was playing it up for the fans, just like any other local celebrity might, but Tarin caught the glances he cast in Lee’s direction as he was kissing hands and signing shirts.
Pulse finished with his fans and immediately made his way towards Lee. Tarin’s hand tightened convulsively on his drink glass as he watched and tried to convince himself that Lee really did know what she was doing.
The set was over. Most of the band headed off to take a break, to get a drink, but Pulse stayed on stage for a while signing autographs, feeding the fan girls' screaming obsession with him.
But Lee did see that he kept looking in her direction.
Finally he was off the stage and Lee lost sight of him from her seated position because of the equipment and the other people milling around beside the stage. But then, suddenly, he seemed to appear right beside her table.
Lee's heart was pounding. The question she was unable to answer was whether it was her heart doing that on its own, or whether Pulse was speeding things up for her.
This was it. She'd managed to get Pulse to the table, over to her, and now Lee had absolutely no idea what to do. Suddenly, a wave of panic washed through her, but she covered it with a smile. How the hell was she supposed to seduce this man, at least enough to be able to get him alone? She'd never seduced anyone before. Well, except for Tarin, if you could call it that, and with him she knew exactly what to do to get specific reactions.
"Hi there," Lee heard herself saying before she had been able to consciously come up with anything. "That was absolutely amazing up there."
"Well, it's easier when we've got the right crowd out here."
"That can't be all of it," Lee insisted with a shake of her head which sent her curled hair bouncing across her shoulders. "I haven't seen someone play guitar that well in years. Do you write the songs too, or just add that flair on the guitar?" Well, despite everything else, the man was at least a good musician.
The man didn't answer her right away, though. Instead he grinned as he asked a question of his own. "How 'bout we go some place quieter? It's hard to talk with everyone around like this."
This was what they were hoping for. At least it was a step in the direction they were aiming at. Though, with a quick glance around, Lee saw that there might have been another little reason why Pulse had suggested it; at that moment, there was a line of bouncers separating the teenage fan girls from her table, and many of them were shooting daggers at her.
"Sure," Lee said, her smile widening a touch as she stood up. Huh, maybe she was better at this whole thing than she had thought.
As she followed Pulse into the back of the club, Lee could feel her heart pounding, thumping faster than normal in her chest.
Before she knew it, before she was ready, Lee was following Pulse into a small room, complete with a couch. Stopping nervously just inside the door, which Pulse had closed behind them, Lee watched the man grab a beer from the mini fridge and sit down on the couch. As soon as the bottle was open, he'd patted the seat beside him, then draped his arm over the back.
She'd gotten this far, Lee couldn't back out now. It was far too late, they'd never have a chance like this again. So Lee moved forward, sitting on the couch and crossing her legs. Almost as soon as her weight had settled on the couch, Lee felt an arm draping across her shoulders.
"So, I've never seen you here before," Pulse said after taking a sip of his beer. "I would have noticed if you'd been here during a show before."
"My friend's been talking non-stop about you since she saw you a while ago," Lee replied with a smile and a slightly teasing shake of her head which sent her hair moving over her shoulders again. "She's going to be sooo jealous that I actually got to meet you."
"Well," Pulse said slowly, leaning closer. "We could always give her a real reason to be jealous."
And before she could even react, Lee felt the man's lips pressing against hers.
This was so wrong! Lee didn't want to be doing this! Even if she would want to kiss anyone other than Tarin, this guy was not attractive.
But Lee knew she had to play along, or everything would be ruined and they wouldn't have the chance to get him. So Lee raised her hand up to Pulse's shoulder, returning the kiss even as she started to siphon from him.
Each second that passed, Lee felt her heart rate speeding up, getting heavier, harder. This she knew wasn't her. This was coming from Pulse, she was sure. While her heart did beat faster when she was kissing Tarin, it wasn't to this almost painful degree. Plus, that probably had a lot more to do with the fact that it was Tarin.
But Lee still threw herself into the kiss, pretending it was her husband sitting there with her so that she could kiss him like this, even as she felt Pulse's hands starting to roam. Lee's eyes squeezed shut.
And then Lee felt her head being yanked back by a hand in her hair. Opening her eyes, a couple tears prickling because of the pull against her scalp, Lee saw Pulse staring at her with anger in his eyes.
"What the hell is this?" She heard him ask a moment before the hand that wasn't in her hair pushed under the top of her dress.
"What?" Lee asked, shocked, still feeling her heart pounding in her chest. She could only hope that Tarin didn't actually have the link with the spirit, that maybe he was in Jacen's field, so he wouldn't actually be seeing what was going on here. "That hurts!"
A moment later, Pulse's hand emerged holding something small and black. "This! What the hell is this?"

Tarin could hear Lee talking through the microphone and his teeth clenched slightly as she turned on the charm and flirted with the man. Lee was good at this, no matter how awkward she liked to pretend she was in social situations. It had to be a natural talent, and Pulse was falling for it hook, line, and sinker. It was almost too good.
Tarin could hardly hear the conversation because of the angry fan girls who were trying to get at Pulse while he was conversing with Lee. Then it happened, Pulse asked Lee if they could go somewhere quieter. Tarin nearly rose and walked over to tell the man exactly where he could go, and rest assured it wasn’t anywhere within 40ft of Lee, but he clenched his teeth harder and held his ground. This was the only way they were going to be able to neutralize Pulse. He and Lee started making their way to a room and Tarin did his best to watch out of the corner of his eye and not stare.
As soon as the two were out of sight, Tarin leaned his head in his hand under the pretense of being bored or tired, but he was really cupping his ear so he could hear better through his receiver over the mild roar of the crowded bar. The spirit had followed Lee exactly as instructed and suddenly in the back of his head, Tarin could see the room, and the couch. Tarin stared at the table, determined to keep his eyes open while he watched what was going on in the room.
After a few moments, and very little talk, Lee was sitting on the couch next to the bastard and he’d draped a casual arm around Lee’s shoulders. Lee really was doing very well, Tarin noticed again, but then Pulse leaned forward and kissed her. Tarin stiffened in his seat and with a snapping sound that would have been loud in a different room, the glass in his hand shattered, a few splinters lodging themselves in his palm.
“Son of a bitch” Tarin cursed, immediately flipping over his hand and picking the larger pieces out of his palm and pressing a napkin into his clenched fist. That bastard’s hand were roaming, and Tarin wanted to look away, but couldn’t…then the scene changed. He saw Lee’s head jerked back and Pulse’s hand actually going down the front of his wife’s dress. He’d gone too far…and he’d found the mic.
Tarin was moving before his brain consciously knew what his legs were doing, sprinting towards the door that he’d seen Lee and Pulse go through. She hadn’t said the word yet, but Lee needed help and Tarin was going to give it…until he ran into a brick wall of human flesh shaped like a bouncer.
Jacen was right there though, and fists swinging, they broke through the defenses coming upon the locked door. Tarin pounded twice, yelling, “OPEN UP!” before stepping back and kicking at the door right next to the knob until the lock shattered and the door swung open to reveal Pulse, still holding Lee by the hair, “Get your god damn hands off her.” He said, frozen where he stood with murder in his eyes.
(OOC: Permission was given in the C-Box for Tarin to post out of order.)
IC: As soon as Pulse's voice came over the ear piece Jacen knew that he was the same man that had spoken on Lori's recording. There was no mistaking the slight menace that remained veiled behind his sensual and sexual over tones. He was the ultimate bad boy which explained why so many girls loved him. He was the perfect outlet for their acts of rebellion and he could make their hearts race. What more could they ever ask for?
"Damn it Lee, don't go out of sight!" Jacen swore under his breath as the woman stood and went along with the other man. He wasn't experienced in whether this was the way things were supposed to go on an infiltration mission like this but he didn't like having to rely on only sound for an indicator on whether Lee was in trouble. Sure she was a tough girl that could take care of herself but that didn't means he had to make a bad situation worse!
While Jacen continued listening he was surepticiously making his way through the crowd to get a little closer to the bouncers. Two of the large, burly men had planted themselves in front of the hall way that obviously led back to the dressing rooms and they were glaring at anyone, male or female, that moved forward like they were going to try to slip past. From Jacen's experience, bouncers were normally extremely tough and experienced when it came to street fighting, but few of them had formal combat training. That was something he would deffinately use to his advantage if it became necessary.
The sound of what had to be kissing was coming over the receiver and Jacen glanced over at Tarin, feeling bad for the guy. Once again he was glad that he hadn't asked Kealey to come and do this sort of thing but he couldn't imagine what Tarin must be feeling. These were the sounds of his wife in another room with another man. Could anything be more awful?
"This! What the hell is this?"
Suddenly Lee's cry of pain and Pulse's angry cursing came over the ear piece and with almost no delay Tarin was on his feet and moving toward the bouncers. Swiveling his head Jacen could almost see the slight glimmer of pleasure as one of the men registered the fact that they might actually get to beat someone down. Without even thinking Jacen broke into a run, shoving his way through the crowd so that he arrived right at the same time as Tarin. Two strong punches cleared the path for Tarin and a swift spin kick sent the second bouncer to the ground as well. Picking up the pace, Jacen reached back and withdrew his pistol, arriving at the door just as Tarin reared back and kicked in the door.
"Listen to the man Pulse." Jacen spit out as he stepped in right next to Tarin with his right arm raised and pointed the weapon directly between the murderer's eyes and his left hand braced under it, "Let the lady go."
"It's a hair clip, what the hell do you think it is?" Lee asked, though her mind was racing just as fast as her heart was. Pulse had a solid grip on her hair, but he wasn't actually touching her. That meant her siphoning wasn't all that effective. So she reached out her hand, thinking it might help her and calm him down a bit, to put her hand on his cheek, but he just slapped it away.
This definitely wasn't working. He wasn't looking at all impressed, at all believing of what she was saying, and he wasn't making it easy to touch him. Sure, Lee thought that she could force a touch, but he was already on guard and her heart was already pounding. What was her damn safe word again?
"Doesn't look much like a hair clip to me. What the hell are you trying to pull?
Lee winced as Pulse accented his words by pulling on her hair a bit more. "And how many clips have you ever worn?" Lee asked in return. Hell no was she going to admit that it was a microphone.
And then, even with everything else that was going on, Lee had a brilliant idea. She looked at the mic Pulse was still holding in his hand, then shot an accusing look at him. "And you broke it!" She exclaimed. "There's supposed to be a strawberry on the one end there, and you snapped it off!"
Then, barely a second later, Lee felt what siphoning she had been doing cut off completely, her heart start slowing down, followed by a yell on the other side of the door. Tarin had been watching; there was no way that they'd have been able to get there this fast after hearing her say 'strawberry'.
Well, there was obviously no way this was going to work according to plan now, was there? Especially not with Tarin and Jacen trying to burst down the door. And Lee knew that both of them were there, even though her back was to the door when it was burst open, because they wouldn't have been there so soon if Tarin hadn't seen what was going on, and Lee could feel that Jacen was there.
Once Pulse saw the door bang open, though, and heard Tarin threaten him, Lee felt herself being pulled up off the couch by her hair. "****!" She exclaimed as she tried to find her balance, tried to find a position that didn't hurt so much.
Lee needed to get her head free. If she could do that, then, especially with Jacen there, Pulse would have no way to stop them. So she did the same thing as when Tarin, in the middle of a merge, had had her by the hair like this: she threw her elbow backwards toward Pulse as hard as she possibly could.
Except, with Jacen there, Lee didn't have nearly the force she would have been expecting. While she did manage to make Pulse double over in pain, he didn't let go of her hair.

OOC - Sorry I forgot to post...I forgot we switched the order. I went ahead and took some action. If what I did, or what I had Pulse say isn't okay...just pretend like I never posted and send me a PM. I won't be around much today, so it's going to be the easiest way to let me know what I screwed up.
Tarin had heard about situations like this on TV, and even from a couple of eye witnesses. Time slowed down, things that would never have stuck out to a person under normal circumstances seemed especially vivid. Tarin figured he’d never forget the arrangement of band stickers on the far wall of the room where Lee had gone with Pulse. Where Lee still was with Pulse. Where all of them were. This wasn’t how it had been supposed to work, not at all. The man wasn’t responding well to instructions either, he didn’t move in accordance to Tarin’s instructions and Lee remained firmly in his grasp.
Jacen reiterated the command, and Tarin hoped for a second that Pulse would think himself cornered and cave. That didn’t happen either, and despite the fact that Lee was struggling like a trooper, and even managed to land a solid blow, Pulse didn’t let go. In fact, once he’d caught his breath, he pulled Lee in closer to his body, arm wrapping around her neck as the other hand found its way to the side of her head.
”Sending a woman this small to do a man’s work?” he said, eyes darting from Jacen’s gun to the door they’d burst through. ”I’ll bet her bones would snap like toothpicks. Now, which one of you is the adapted? I a’int stupid, one of us, one of them, right? That’s how you work.”
In the next few seconds, Tarin’s mind worked faster than it had probably ever worked in his life. The proverbial gig was up, and Pulse had all the bargaining power. There was surely help one the way, and the situations that presented themselves as possible endings to this scenario were not favorable. Either something bad was going to happen to Lee, something bad was going to happen to all of them. Pulse had used that word too…adapted. Tarin cast a quick look to Jacen and spoke before the other man could open his mouth, keeping the look steady afterwards and hoping his unspoken, ’keep your mouth shut’ would work.
“I am. It’s me.” He said, moving forward a couple of steps, causing Pulse to move backwards, still clinging to Lee.
”We heard you was in town, snooping around, you know.” Pulse said, and Tarin nodded his head, “Why don’t you let the lady go and we can talk about this.” Man, what he was doing was stupid, Tarin noted a little grimly as he spoke and tried to keep up the façade. This wasn’t going to end favorably though, no matter what, and out of all of them, Jacen had the most chance of figuring out what was going on. Tarin had to get him and Lee out, and as soon as possible. Preferably before help arrived.
Jacen's mind was running through every curse word he had learned while in the military and was even creating some new ones as he found himself in what was known as a stand off. When he had first walked in there had been an opportunity for a shot without accidently hitting Lee but now Pulse was partially ducked behind the woman and wasn't even sticking out his head completely. As much as Jacen wanted information he was more than willing to just drill the man right between the eyes if only he'd give him a shot!
Suddenly Tarin was speaking up, claiming that he was the Adapted. The combination of the paper work and now Pulse's statement deffinately had Jacen's mind realing all of a sudden. He wasn't a human, and he wasn't a mutant, so instead he was called an Adapted? Did that mean there were more like him? Pulse sure did seem to think so.
"You've got a trail of spirits following you all over town." Jacen spoke up, scrambling to remember every bit of information that Tarin had provided. Not only did he need to remember Pulse's last victim, but he needed to remember just how Tarin's power worked. "Your last one was a young woman from the local hotel. She actually thought you loved her, until you practically made her heart burst of course."
"Yeah, well you don't go through life without having at least a few skeletons in your closet." Pulse smirked and responded without the slightest hesitation, "You though... pretty boy. I'll make you an offer. You trade places with the lady and we slip out of here. I've got some friends that want to meet you, Mr. Adapted."
"Damn it!" Jacen mentally cursed as he desperately tried to come up with some way to signal Lee to try and jerk away. There was no way that Tarin could pull of a scharade like this. He didn't have any sort of ability that came close to mimicing what Jacen could do! What in the world was he thinking?
Damn it! Lee's mind struggled frantically trying to figure out how the hell she was going to get out of this. Her elbow hadn't released the hold Pulse had in her hair. In fact, after he straightened back up, he even wrapped his arm around her neck, and she felt his other hand beside her head.
Damn it, damn it, damn it! Lee could feel the energy in her, she knew that she had siphoned more than enough since entering the club to break out of this man's hold, even if it might break his arm at the same time, but with Jacen there, she couldn't access that energy. And so her hands were simply clawing at the arm, snug around her throat, unable to actually pull it away.
And then Lee heard Pulse speak, and her eyes widened as she stared across the room at the two men who had come in to rescue her. This was not working, not at all. If either of them came closer to try and help, the man was going to snap her neck, and she didn't have the strength to fight him.
Lee wanted to yell at them, wanted to scream. Jacen needed to leave, if only for ten seconds so she could get the arm off her throat. But breathing was difficult enough at the moment, Pulse was quite a bit taller than her, so yelling was out of the question. Still, Lee had to get Jacen out of there, so she tried, her mouth forming the words 'get out' even though no noise actually passed her lips.
Next thing she knew, Tarin and Jacen had 'traded places', Tarin claiming to be this 'adapted' whatever it was, and Jacen saying he'd seen the spirits of the people Pulse had killed. Lee's eyes widened even further. So not good. Lee's mouth stopped moving, stopped trying to get her message across to Jacen as she stared at her husband, anger coming into her eyes as she realized he was setting things up for a trade, him for her.
No, that is not how things were supposed to go, Lee thought as she stood there, held by the throat, barely able to suck in enough oxygen to keep the edges of her vision from turning black. But she kept pulling, tugging, clawing at the arm holding her, even though it wasn't doing any good.
And then Lee's nails broke the skin on Pulse's arm, drawing blood in three lines down the forearm. Which only resulted in him tightening his arm.
Air was suddenly even harder to come by, and the edges of Lee's vision did start fading to black now. There wasn't time for this, for whatever plan Tarin was coming up with. Lee turned her eyes to Jacen, hopefully he'd listen. With every ounce of energy she could muster, she spoke, forming the words as distinctly as possible with her mouth. "Get out now." She could only hope that what little sound actually came out was loud enough to reach them.

Tarin watched slightly in horror as his wife continued to struggle with the man who literally had her life in his hands. Lee really didn’t realize how small she was compared to him and Tarin was getting more and more worried by the second that she was going to push Pulse too far. “It’s fine.” He said, looking her steadily in the eyes, “Just hold still for a minute.” He said, wincing as her nails opened rents in Pulse’s arm and he squeezed this arm tighter around her neck. Tarin could feel his teeth grind against each other.
Jacen was playing along well, and Tarin managed to relax slightly as he pointed out everything he knew about the spirit Tarin had explained earlier. Kudos to the man for paying attention, Tarin was impressed. Lee, however, wasn’t impressed, Tarin could see it on her face as she mouthed at them to get out. Tarin just shook his head. Pulse pointed out skeletons in his closet and Tarin shook his head, “Everyone might have skeletons, but most people don’t put them there simply for the fun.” The bastard had the balls to smirk at the comment, then shrug his shoulders. ”Sometimes I just can’t help myself. We gonna make a trade or am I gonna add one more skeleton to the closet?”
Tarin held his hands up, palms out and took a step forward. This time Pulse didn’t move and it looked like if anything he loosened his grip around Lee’s neck, “Yeah, we’ve got a deal. I’ll go along, just let her go. As it turns out, I’ve got a few questions for your friends too.” Pulse seemed amused by that and it sent a mild little chill down the back of his neck.
Tarin looked over at Jacen, then back at Pulse, “We walk my friends out the back doors and around to the car. Once they pull off, I’m yours…I don’t have any weapons.”
Pulse was thinking about it, really thinking about it. He had leverage with Lee, but Jacen had a gun. Finally, the man nodded, ”Fine. Out the back doors, I’ll go first and my friends will follow us out to make sure there’s no funny business.”
Tarin turned to look at Jacen, and nodded his head slowly, "It's the only viable option."
Jacen couldn't believe he was going along with this but now that the roles had been chosen he had no choice but to simply play along. "Next time I'm gonna demand real agents, not some damn civilians that happen to have a special ability." Jacen muttered in annoyance just loud enough for Lee and Pulse to probably make most of it out. Side stepping Jacen stood next to the doorway and then slowly reached back to place his weapon back in its holster. "You lead the way." Jacen said with a quick nod toward Tarin, "I'll follow behind the lady and our friend. Stay close though. I don't feel like having a heart attack unless it comes naturally."
"I wouldn't count on that." Pulse said with a smirk and a firm jerk on Lee, forcing her toward the doorway, "And remember.. any funny business and I snap her neck!"
As expected, the two muscle bound bouncers that Tarin and Jacen had dealt with minutes earlier were suddenly standing right behind the fake adapted. It was a safe bet that they would probably stay right next to him in order to make sure he didn't attempt to run or make a break for it.
"Let's get something clear." Jacen's hand suddenly snaked out, grabbing Pulse's shoulder and bringing him to a halt. He didn't tighten his grip on any Lee's neck any more, but it was obvious he muscles were tensing just in case he had to do something. "You better start running right now," Jacen hissed, his voice only loud enough for Pulse and Lee to hear, "because if you hurt my partner, next time there won't be a human, mutant, or adapted on earth that'll stop me from killing you."
For a moment the two men stared at each other and then the sneer returned to Pulse's face. "Sweet dreams jack ass. I hope heart conditions don't run in your family."

The walk out toward the car was relatively simple. Jacen had chosen to take the back so that he could guarantee his field was on Pulse at all times. Even though this meant Tarin was forced to glance over his shoulder every so often to make sure he wasn't getting to far ahead, it was the best way to make sure that Pulse didn't realize Tarin wasn't really an adapted.
"What the hell do we do now?" Jacen thought as he tried desperately to come up with some sort of plan other than what Tarin was now attempting, "And how in the world do I keep Lee from melting down once we get away?"
Tarin was telling her it was fine, to just hold still. And he shook his head slightly after she tried telling them to get out. She was going to pass out, or worse, because she couldn't get this guy's arm off of her throat, all because Jacen wouldn't back up for a few seconds.
And then they were talking about making a trade, or at least that's what she thought they were talking about; her vision was growing darker and it was getting harder to hear through a ringing in her ears at that point. But Tarin moved forward a step, and suddenly Lee felt air rush into her lungs at her next attempt at gulping. It wasn't as much air as if Pulse had completely let go of her, but it was more than enough at the moment and the oxygen slowly worked to drive back the black border around her vision.
By this time, the three men were making plans to head out the back door, where she and Jacen would leave, completing the trade by leaving Tarin there with Pulse. Not that Lee had any say in the matter since she was all but helpless in Pulse's grip at the moment.
Lee was both pissed and panicked by that. What the hell did Tarin think he was doing? The man was going to be extremely mad when he found out that Tarin wasn't the one cancelling out his powers. How long would he-
Lee stopped that train of thought even as she felt herself being pulled off balance as they started out of the room. She couldn't think like that, just couldn't. Though, she would stand a better chance against Pulse once Jacen was out of the way than Tarin would.
It was hard to walk, and Lee kept stumbling, only to be 'caught' by the hold Pulse had on her neck. "Could we slow down, or let go, or something?" Lee asked after she had almost losing her feet completely as she had stumbled for the sixth time. She even thought about every other word was loud enough to actually be heard.
But either it wasn't, or people weren't paying attention to anything at all she tried to say that night, since they all kept going at the exact same speed.
It really didn't take long to get to the back doors of the club. Out they went, and toward where Jacen and Tarin had parked the car. Then they stopped.
Lee's eyes were drilling in to Tarin when he finally turned around. She shook her head, even while still in Pulse's grip. "Don't," she said simply. He couldn't do this trade. If she had actually had any real say in it, she wouldn't let him. He had to know that she had a better chance against Pulse than he did, right?
"Don't," she said again, her voice a whisper as she looked at her husband. "Please."

Jacen was still playing along, that was good. As long as they kept up the façade, it would give them time to try and figure something else out. A trade situation was much better than a stand-off anytime, at least in Tarin’s mind. Hopefully Jacen had figured out what he was playing at, too. It didn’t matter though, if they ended up having to go through with the trade. Tarin had a plan slowly forming in his mind though, as long as there wasn’t anyone else like Jacen around. If they’d let Jacen or Lee go, chances were the other two would never have found them…this way it was almost a guarantee...as long as Tarin was alive long enough to pull off his plan.
The bouncers were back, Tarin had expected that, though, he and Jacen hadn’t hit the guys to make sure they stayed down. Jacen described how they’d walk out to the back and Tarin simply nodded his head, eyes never leaving Lee, who looked less and less excited by this situation by the moment. She was keeping her mouth shut and playing along though, so Tarin just kept steadily looking at her. They had information to get, this was going to be the fastest way.
Jacen and Pulse were working out logistics, Tarin noticed when he pulled away from his thoughts about Lee and Tarin just followed along. Jacen was the one who knew about these types of things, and as he and Pulse exchanged words, Tarin kept his mouth shut. Then they were moving.
Tarin was in front and he had to keep checking back to make sure that he never walked out of Jacen’s field. It wasn’t necessarily easy considering how many people there were in their little group and by the time they made it to the parking lot, Tarin was a nervous wreck. About six feet from the car, they all stopped and Tarin turned to look at Lee and Jacen. Lee spoke, and Tarin’s jaw clenched slightly.
“You’ll find me.” He said, looking back at her steadily and what he hoped was confidently. “Use the spirits.” There, hopefully Lee would be far enough from Jacen when he sent the spirit.
”Enough chit chat, now screw off before I get impatient.” Pulse said, and released Lee.
“Now, get in the car and drive, now. No arguments.” Tarin said, face still carefully blank as he stared at Lee. Internally though, he was terrified. This had to work.
(OOC: Sorry to hold this thing up! My weekend ended up being a little bit crazy! I'll do my best to keep things flowing smoothly from here on. :-D)

Walking around Pulse, Tarin, and the three guards, Jacen walked over to the door and opened up the passenger door for Lee. The look on Lee's face was obvious and as tempting as it was to try and take down Pulse and his goons right here in the parking lot Jacen knew it wasn't the time. Pulse had one this skirmish but he was far from winning the actual war.
"Get in Lee." Jacen murmured in a low voice, "Trust me... I am NOT going to let anything happen to Tarin. We'll pull this off."
Once Lee was in the car Jacen closed the door and then turned back around to face the other four men. "Don't make me angry Pulse. You don't want to see me angry."
Without another word Jacen turned and strode around the vehicle to climb into the drivers seat. Even as he was starting up the car and putting it into gear, he was doing his best to estimate just how far away Pulse and his cronies really were. Had they already gotten out of his field? They weren't acting any different so maybe they didn't realize the truth quite yet.
With a squeal of tires the car lept away from the curb, racing out of the parking lot and merging with traffic.
