The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Raven waved to the greyhound driver as she walked off the bus with a mob of other people, all having traveled to New York. She went over to the luggage area, first grabbing her bike, an old and beaten up thing that was the one possession she had managed to hold onto over the years. Once her bike was safely back in her hands she also picked up a large kennel which happened to house a giant raven. From inside the kennel she felt anger, frustration and general unhappiness.
You've been a good boy Blackwing. Only a few minutes and you'll be free to fly again. Accompanying the mental words were images of sky and clouds. It was often easier to speak in images rather than words. While Blackwing was much smarter than any true raven, he was still a raven and images seemed to resonate more strongly with him than words. In fact, Raven herself preferred images as well. That was one of the reason she had taken up tarot reading, so many years ago. The pictures on the cards were just so very pretty.
Raven opened the kennel and Blackwing let out an appreciative caw before spreading his wings and taking to the sky. Raven didn't even bother picking up the kennel, now that she had actually made it to the city it was no longer needed. Everything she needed was currently on her back in her backpack. Her tarot cards, runes, crystals and other props for her on and off job as a professional psychic, several bags filled with random bits of food and a myriad of other miscillaneous objects ranging from office supplies, to small coins to random bits of colorful fabric and tinfoil, most of which made wonderful bargaining chips with the crows.
Raven didn't worry about Blackwing flying away from her and not returning. He always stuck close enough to remain in contact. Nor was she particularly worried about the fact that the last of her funds, minus a possible few coins, had been spent on the bus ride to the city. It was summer, after all, and in summer she didn't really mind being homeless. There was something freeing about living in the streets without a care or a responsibility in the world. When it was winter, on the other hand, that's when she didn't like being homeless. She always tried to actually have steady work once the weather changed over. But for now she was happy. At least until it started to rain or storm out.
Getting on her bike, Raven began cycling away from the bus station. The first note of business was finding some food and if there was one thing the local crows were good at, it was letting her know where the best food might be found. Finding a try that currently housed a few of them, she stopped her bike and dug into her back, removing a few paper clips. Cawing up at the crows and waving her hands exuberantly, she asked where there might be some good eating. A few moments later one of the crows responded and, in exchange for the information, Raven threw the paper clips in its direction. She then got back on her bike and prepared to go in the direction the crow had indicated.

Sunlight glinted off the silver and white Gundam bike helmet of the motorcyclist paused at the stop light. Behind his black visor, nobody walking by could see his eyes, yet he could see them. As pedestrians in the crosswalk milled past, the biker watched, calculating distances, judging angles, placing them all on his mental grid.
His eyes drifted up to the red light, then back to the intersection. New York was always so busy on days like today. Traffic was loud. People were noisy. When they weren't shouting at others to go faster, they were shouting at others to walk off (His words, not theirs.)
The light changed, and Shin pulled forward, crossing the intersection.
Today had been pretty good. He'd worked at the Full Circle, and now he was going home to eat waffles. Nothing could possibly distract him from his goal, except--
"Hey, is that a giant crow?" Shin asked himself, eyes looking skyward when he really should have been focused on the road.
Yup. It was a giant crow. His eyes dropped just in time to see the cyclist in front of him. Shin jerked to a halt.
"Whoa." He stared at the 8 feet of space between himself and the cyclist. That could have been bad. He really needed to work on that whole 'not getting distracted while driving' thing. Maybe later. For now... "Hey? Shin said. "Are you okay?"

Raven really was looking forward to getting herself a good meal and then finding herself a nice little chunk of greenery to claim as her own. The bus ride to the city had been long and uncomfortable, with Blackwing complaining to her the entire way. How she was going to make up for the fact that she had cooped him up in the kennel for all those hours she hadn't quite figured out yet, but she knew a feast would go a long way towards doing so.
Just as Raven got back onto her bike and started peddling a motorcycle zoomed up, seemingly out of nowhere, and almost collided right into her. Her heart started racing 1000 miles an hour and she could feel Blackwing respond in kind. The giant raven, concerned for his other half, flew down from the sky, intent on dive-bombing the biker that had so nearly hit Raven, halting and adjusting his course to take him back into the sky only inches from the man, as Raven sent out a silent assurance that everything was all right.
"I think I'm all right," Raven assured the stranger. "You really should watch where you're going though." The statement carried no hint of malice or judgement, just a statement of fact.

Oh Jeez! As the crow divebombed him, Shin instinctively cringed where he sat, pulling his arms up to cover his face. Did birds usually attack like that!? Weren't they just passive-aggressive attackers of statues and nice hats? No. They didn't.
Unless, maybe, he'd been in her territory... or... as it flew up and away from him, Shin's eyes rose to calculate its exact size. It was fairly large. His focus returned to the girl he'd nearly hit. It must have been her crow. That would explain why it was so defensive. It had been quick to come to her aid.
She said she was fine, and that was good. Inwardly, Shin was kicking himself for being so careless.
"You're absolutely right..." Shin replied seriously. He didn't say it sadly, but matched her tone. "I am sorry. It's just... big crow." His eyes rose towards the flying animal, then back to the girl. "You're a mutant." He stated matter-of-factly. "So am I. Busy day. I was just on my way home from where I work... big mansion full of mutants. I apologize for letting my mind wander, and my eyes veer off the path."

Raven liked to see the reaction of fear that Blackwing sometimes created in people. She looked on at the person who had almost hit her with an all together smug expression on her face. People normally didn't consider birds to be much of a threat, but just watch what happened when a bird the size of an eagle dive bombed them. Even the most steadfast person tended to blanch.
"Its not a crow," Raven stated with a sulk. Why did people always seem to think that despite Blackwing's majestic size and bearing? "Its a raven." She felt Blackwing's annoyance at being called a crow, imagine it a mere crow. The feeling was an echo of her own.
"A mansion full of mutants?" Raven asked, her ears pirking with interest. She didn't bother to clarify that she was, indeed, a mutant. The man could come to his own conclusions as he liked. "Say, do you think this mansion of yours might be willing to rent a spare room to a girl and her bird recently arrived to the city?" Maybe she could even make some money while there. Surely mutants needed a good fortune teller just as much as humans did.

Crow? Raven? Shin wasn't really familiar with the difference. He'd never heard about ravens in the park, either. He didn't react to that.
She asked him about the mansion. That, he reacted to. "Rent?" Shin asked. "The mansion's free for mutants in need. If you're a mutant, I could help set you up with a room..." He glanced up towards the big crow. "The bird might need to stay outside, though." It might not fit in the halls.

While the man didn't apologize for calling Blackwing a crow, he also didn't deny the fact that he was a raven and thus Raven was willing to forgive him his mistake. Humans were stupid, that's all it was, and sometimes one had to be a little more understanding around them. It wasn't their fault, really. It was just their own misfortune.
"If someone, such as myself, would happen to be a mutant how would this someone get to live in this free mansion of yours?" The question was said slyly. There had to be some sort of trick, no one would just allow someone to simply live for free without gaining something in return, would they?
"Oh, and Blackwing wouldn't want to stay inside anyway." Reinforcing that fact, the giant raven sent Raven a flash of cage and a horrifically disgusted emotional reaction to go with it. The cage then dissolved and a nice tree and blue open sky replaced it.

"Just fill out some paperwork, to let us know your mutation, your name... you know, basic stuff. The mansion's funded by a variety of private parties. It's made to be a safe place for mutants that need one. We take walk-ins just as often as we take appointments. I was a walk-in, too. It's cool, really. No strings attached."
He was still sitting on his motorbike in the middle of the road in full rider gear. Shin glanced at his watch. "I kind of want to get home soon. Do you want me to tell you where the mansion is, or take you there, or something? We can deal in the hypothetical all day, but it won't get us anywhere." Shin said. His hands tightened impatiently on the handlebar grips.

Raven considered the offer, clicking to herself in contemplation. She sent an image up through the connection to Blackwing consisting of a large an luxurious next. Surrounding the nest was plenty of food and inside was a pile of shiny prized objects. The bird instantly sent back his approval.
"I accept your offer," Raven answered. It didn't matter whether or not the offer was stated in so many words. Nor did she quite believe the no strings attached part, there were always strings attached. But she could deal with those whenever she found out what they were. She pointed up at her familiar. "He's my mutation. Kind of. He doesn't mind living outside." Blackwing reinforced that sentiment, sending another image of a cage and a bird trapped inside. Accompanying the image was an intense feeling of disgust.
"You better just tell me where it is," Raven answered. "I don't think I could keep up on my bike. Or, if its close Blackwing could follow you and I could follow him."

It was times like this where Shin wished he had some form of teleportation where he could just take a large group of people, stuff, and animals with him to some place instantly, with just a thought. It would have made things so much simpler. Just, poof, he'd be there. They'd be there, without any worries. The way it was working now, it looked like Shin would have to beat her to the mansion, and let her arrive on her bicycle. She certainly couldn't keep up. It'd be weird of him to suggest flying her and her stuff on a Porygon or a triangular platform. She definitely wasn't Kealey. He preferred to keep shard-flying opportunities restricted to a small group of people. Kealey was at the top of that list. Flying on a shard platform was something special. People off the street didn't get the pleasure.
Shin bowed his head for a second, and shook it with a disappointed sigh. "I guess I'll have to meet you there. The address is..." He gave her the address. Once that was out of the way, Shin shook his head again. "Guess I will see you there, then. Later."
He took off down the street on his motorcycle.
It was no stretch of the imagination to say he beat her there.

Raven didn't have any problem at all with peddling to the Mansion. She took down the address in her ever present notebook and waved to the man as he rode away on his motorcycle. One of the advantages of having two sets of eyes, one of which could view the world from a far above position, was that it was much more difficult to get lost. She stood there, at the side of the road, for several minutes as Blackwing watched for as long as he could, before the man finally passed out of the raven's view.
Once her meal ticket was gone, Raven got back onto her own bike and began making her way to the indicated address. Surprisingly enough she made good time, excited enough by the prospect of a free place to stay that she didn't even get distracted by anything along the way. Blacking, it seemed, was just as excited as she was and sent her an image of a rather lovely giant nest filled with all sorts of shining trinkets and the nearby smell of food. Oh yes, the two of them really could be happy in a place that was both free and accepting of a giant bird living outside their walls.
Eventually Raven arrived at the indicted address and could only assume this was the place she was supposed to be coming too. Not quite sure what to expect, she chained her bike to a tree and pressed the buzzer on the gate. Sure it might be possible to climb over it, but she knew that wasn't exactly considered polite in human society.

He'd put the bike away the moment he'd arrived at the mansion. Once it was safe in the garage, Shin had wandered to his room, fed Thor a treat, and changed out of his work clothes, into a white shirt and hoodie. He returned to his office just in time to hear the buzzer. Shin responded with a quick "Be right there," and made his way to the gates.
"Hey," he greeted crowgirl. "Let me get this gate opened for you and Yatagarasu."
He went over to the keypad. A couple seconds later, the entrance was cleared. "Welcome to the mansion. Do you want a tour?"

Getting to The Mansion really wasn't all that difficult or half as far as Raven thought it might be. Blackwing followed their guide for as long as he could and after that, between the two of them they managed to navigate to the Mansion. Impressive was the only word that came to mind, staring up at the great building and the many milling students and other mutants.
"I would love a tour," Raven agreed. Her guide really was quite helpful once one got over the whole almost hitting her with his bike thing and she decided this was a grand place to stay after all. She filled out some paperwork, something about her power and whether or not she was potentially dangerous, before being shown to her new room. Of course it didn't have a window, which is something she complained at length about, but apparently rules were rules and adult rooms were in the middle hallway or something like that. Finally she gave in, realizing that no matter how much she argued the point she simply wasn't going to win this one.
While Raven was still a little dubious at the whole, being allowed to live there for free thing, she wasn't going to question it. Finally, tour and paperwork complete, she shooed Shin off and prepared to sleep. In the morning would be some further investigating of her new home.
