The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Raina had been dozing on the couch with the TV on the weather network when the first jab of pain came. It was enough to rouse her from her slumber but not enough that once she awoke she realized what it was. She gave a yawn and a stretch and tried to prop herself up with a pillow. Her pregnant girth was getting to be a bit much. Nearly 9 months in now and the basketball had grown considerably. "Joey" was also very active at night so Raina's subconscious simply assumed he/she was kicking/moving around as usual when she felt the second jab of pain.
She had a sleeping bag pulled over her and the chilly side of the fabric was what was touching her skin. That's why she hadn't noticed that her water had broken yet- the fabric was wet but felt the way it always felt against her skin.
She looked around the room and wondered where Rupert was and if he was responsible for the blanket. She was hungry but somehow didn't feel quite like moving yet. She'd been tired lately- really tired taking impromptu naps every time she could. After much debate with other staff she'd decided to start her maternity leave a few weeks early. At this point in the pregnancy every small effort she made triggered a staggering reaction of exhaustion. After a few days home Raina had finally admitted this was the best thing for her.
Another little stab of pain, about 5 minutes from the last one made Raina's eyes bulge. This time she did sit up properly. She wondered if she ate something funny, or if she needed to use the bathroom. It was a strange phantom pain that went as soon as it came. It hurt so bad but the instant it started to fade a girl had to wonder if it really hurt that bad or just surprised her.
Her skin was feeling a bit clammy so she kicked off the sleeping bag just while the weatherman started claiming it would be a beautiful summer this year. That's when she saw all the water all over her clothes and the carpet. She stared at it puzzled for a moment- her face growing whiter by the second. Had she spilled something? Nope. It was time. But now that it was time she didn't want it to be time. Her heart raced. She searched for possible excuses for the pain and water but as the pain resurfaced faster than the last she knew there weren't any excuses left.
"Rupert.." she called barely above a whisper trying to steady herself on the couch. "RUPERT!!!" she called now with all her strength obvious stress in her voice.
All of a sudden the idea of having a baby didn't seem that great.

Child proofing. He had child proofed everything. The upper cabinets: child proofed. Under the bathroom sink: child proofed. The electric sockets: child proofed. His knife drawer: adult proofed.
Rupert kept his growling to a bare minimum as he struggled with the drawer. Raina was resting; he was not going to disturb her. There was a tray of brownies sitting on the oven top that needed quality testing, though, and he was getting a knife from this drawer.
>> "Rupert.."
“Just a second, hon,” the Italian man called. The mermaid had scented the brownies. Therefore, he was in trouble if he couldn’t serve them up. He put a foot against the cabinets, and threw his back into it.
>> "RUPERT!!!"
He crashed backwards in a shower of—drawer handles? The cold brass, screws still attached, mocked his hand as he stared up at the kitchen light. It took the ringing in his ears a moment to realize something important: that wasn’t the scream of a woman craving food.
Somewhere deep inside of him, his Expecting Father senses began to whirl, test running systems for panic. He shoved the feeling down. The brass drawer handle got slapped onto the counter as he lurch upright again, and jogged to the living room.
“What’s wrong?” He started to ask, with a wheeze. His eyes caught the water, not understanding for a moment. Had she spilled something? Years ago, that would have been a huge problem—but now, she had control over her transformation. There wasn’t any cup, though. The Expecting Father senses sent cold spines into his stomach. There was another explanation for this. His eyes widened. “Is it—? Are you—? Are we—?”
Was he supposed to call an ambulance, or drive her to the hospital? He couldn’t remember. All those classes, all those books, and he couldn’t remember. What was Sebastian’s number, again? He couldn’t remember. They were having a baby. That much, he was still clear on.

Raina was standing looking a bit like a mad woman in her drenched nighty and a few items strewn across the carpet after knocking them over when she stood up in shock. Her skin was still rather white, her hair plastered to her face, and her eyes... well they almost looked inhuman. Raina's body was flexing muscles she didn't even know existed and each contraction was worse than the last.
"I..." she began "They aren't supposed to be this close!" she insisted as another jab of pain made her lurch back and sit on the couch. As fast as she was sitting she was arching her back trying to find a more comfortable position. Contractions of course, were supposed to be 'this close' but only when the baby was 'close' which led Raina to believe perhaps she'd been totally unaware of her first labour signs. Her doctor had warned that due to her mutation the process may be slightly different. Perhaps after all the transformations her innards simply wrote off the early contractions? How long had she been having contractions? The water seemed so cold...
All the thoughts of having a natural birth and no epidural were now history. "Rupert I'm scared" she admitted. Going on a life or death mission with the x-men suddenly seemed more appropriate than having a baby.
"I think we need... the hospital. Now." she said trying to get herself up right "and if you call an ambulance the neighbors will never let us live it down." she tried to tease with a pained smile on her face.
They'd prepared for this moment, or so they thought. And Raina knew people had babies every day. You didn't call 911 unless there was an emergency and having a baby just wasn't one. She was probably in for a long night of waiting in the hospital for them to tell her it was time to push... but Raina's sense of urgency wanted her to push .. now!
Her suitcases for the hospital had been sitting by the door for over a week now though in all honesty she never really expected this moment to come.

((ooc: God Modding permission fully exploited. Tell me if I should change anything!))
Later, Rupert might be sorry about the yelling. Might. But it sure got the nurses’ attention, from the second they were in the door, and got them calling Raina’s doctor at his home number.
They were in the delivery room, now. He wanted to pace—oh, how he wanted to pace. The other side of the room wasn’t where Raina needed him to be, though. His wife needed him right next to her side, his hand in hers.

It seemed to take forever to get to the hospital and every bump in the car made Raina wince with pain. She didn't know that part of her body could hurt as bad as it did. For a moment - only a moment- she felt like she was reclined under a blanket... but another stab of pain whiped that image from her mind. They'd told her in lamaz classes that when the body was coping with pain especially during labour it would often enough go to a "happy place" to allow the person to cope with the pain. Being in a nice warm bed sounded nice about now.
In reality they reached the hospital in lightning speed and Rupert had her in a wheelchair with the luggage piled on the back of it like it was a shopping cart the second they got through the sliding doors. No one seemed to be the least bit phased that the pregnant mutant was going into labour and Raina's brain was filled with images of going fish while trying to deliver the baby. And there was the pain. the blinding pain.
Rupert was yelling but her pain was so great she was barely aware until he'd wheeled her into the delivery room and a nurse helped her onto the table. She heard murmers of a c-section and she shouted out "no, don't I get the epideral?" she pleaded.
"I'm sorry Mrs. Kelley we're not sure how the epideral will effect your mutation." said the nurse in a monotone voice.
Raina's eyes darted between Rupert and the nurse. "What... WHAT?!" she screamed crying. "but..."
Another streak of pain "the contractions are too close. The doctor wont get here in time. Mrs. kelley you're going to have to start pushing... I'll get him on the phone."
"Rupert... Rupert..." moaned Raina. "this isn't what we planned." she gritted her teeth together feeling her muscles flex in a way they never had before.
"Ok Mrs. Kelley, Push. Mr. Kelley she's going to need your hand."
Raina reached around, her eyes as wide as saucers for Ruperts hand.
She pushed non-stop for half an hour. Whimpering and crying, saying out loud how she wished she could be braver. She focused on the image of the bed and blankets, some place warm and safe and tried to tell herself it would be worth it when it was over. They'd have their Joey.
"Ok Mrs. Kelley... this is it." said the nurse. "The doctor isn't here yet and this baby is coming. I need one more big push."
Raina turned her eyes to Rupert and started to push. But suddenly Rupert wasn't there anymore. Then when a panicked Raina turned her head the nurse wasn't there either. The room dissappeared and she was left on a hospital bed surrounded by white. "what... what...?"

It seemed to take forever, and no time at all. Then the sound of his child crying burst into the room. He walked towards the doctors, like he was in a dream. He didn’t know whether the nurse was smiling or not as she gently handed the babe over; he only had eyes for his child.
Their child.
“Raina,” he said, “look.” What else was there to say?
Raina’s face was impassive as he offered the baby to her. She didn’t take it. She didn’t even move her eyes their way. “Raina?” He asked. All around him, the room was darkening. He clutched their child closer; backed away, his eyes searching out the nurse for help. “There’s something—”
The nurse wasn’t there. The baby was crying more loudly now. The world was disappearing, all around them: the hospital was gone. The room was gone. There was only Raina, him, and the baby. It was when she disappeared that he knew what this was.
A dream.
“No.” Rupert shook his head. He felt his head hitting against the back of the passenger side seat, and the gun under his shoulder. Light started to press in on him; dim, and flickering. Streetlights moving by. Realer than all that, though, was the baby he still held in his arms.
Rupert Kelley, Pastor of the Pax Multi-Denominational Church, teacher, husband, father; he fought with all he had to hold onto his child. Like with most things, all he had just wasn’t good enough.
He kept his eyes closed. His fingers clenched around open air; a weight he could still feel, but which wasn’t there. Which was never there.
“ ‘No, no,’” James mocked, from the driver’s side. The street lights flicked across his face, darkening the shadows cast by his hat. “You finally awake, sleeping beauty? We’re almost there.”
“I’m up,” Rupert growled, pulling himself up straight.
James put the car into park a block away from their target. “Then let’s do this thing,” he said.
Rupert Kelley—ex-cop, ex-Camp Supervisor, current shop boy and murderer—was awake. Damn it all.
