The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Bored. Juka. Was. Bored. There was training and performing and practicing and eating. Sometimes there was socializing and shopping but right at this very moment, Juka was bored. It was 3 am, nothing was open and he was tired of training and tired of practicing in order to perform. Because there were no places open there were no places to shop and because it was 3 am there was no one to socialize with. What was an eternally awake boy in a bubble to do on a night like this? Either remain on his computer all night talking in chat rooms filled with sad little antisocialites or go out and find himself some excitement. For obviously reasons he chose the latter.
Excitement, in Juka's mind, did not merely involve floating around the city as was his usual activity when he was bored, but finding something more engaging. Even floating around and spying on people was starting to get old. Who would have thought that life would become so much less exciting as soon as he no longer had to sleep? One would have that that'd be a good thing, that life would get far more interesting simply because there were more hours in the day to do more interesting things, but that simply wasn't the case. So bored was he that (gasp in shock and awe) he was even considering getting himself a job. Oh the horror of actually having to work. Things, luckily, hadn't gotten quite that bad but they were getting close.
No, tonight Juka wanted to find himself something truly exceptional to do, maybe even something dangerous. After all, he was a super hero in training, was he not? So, in proper super hero fashion, perhaps he might be able to stop some insidious crime from taking place and punish some evil criminal or another. Yes indeed, that sounded like a fantastic plan to him. So, after feeding his precious kitties (the only loves of his life) he bubbled himself and his anvils and floated off of his balcony and into the city, intent on finding some dastardly criminals.
Flying over the city, Juka's plans started big but eventually faded into something...well...not nearly so impressive. Where did one go to find crime being committed? Looking down below him all he saw was building and streets and the occasional pedestrian or moving vehicle. Problem was, none of the pedestrians seemed to be in any sort of imminent danger and even if the vehicles were engaged in some evil illegal actions, they were moving faster than his bubble was. It seemed the criminals were going to win this round by default since they didn't appear to exist...It was a most disheartening experience, to say the least.
Then, out of the corner of his eye, Juka noticed something big and red. Or, should he say, someone big and red and he only knew of one big read individual. "Venus!" he yelled in most excited fashion, floating down to Venus' level. His four anvils floated around him, held stationary above his head on four tendrils.
Abyss stood on a city block corner ready to mop the floor with some human filth, oh soon they would be that literally someone was going have to clean them up off the concrete. This crap was getting old, real old. Yeah he had gone out tonight thinking to vindicate some wrong, see if there were any mutants out on the street hurting, needing a place to say. But what did he find? Bigots! Church of humanity bigots. Ones that apparently weren’t up on there , human’s can’t handle them with out a nuke list. Oh they all had weapons. Two bats, a chain and a big shiny knife. The four of them were closing in on him. It was laughable. He had been walking down the road, he had passed them and thinking they were just thugs. But low and behold they begged for death. Just as he neared the corner, the loud one called out.
“Hey Freak! Don’t walk away, we have business with you.”
He turned around, momentarily amused, were they going to sell him drugs? What could they possible hop to accomplish? Sure he was dressed nice tonight, but come on! They had to know they weren’t going to mug him. it was about that time that he saw there matching white shirts, C.O.H on the front. He recognized the shirt. On the back it would say, just say no to freaks.
It all became stupidly simple from there on out. “I am going to kill you all.”
“Venus!”
Abyss flexed his arms and cracked his knuckles and took a step forward he hadn’t even registered the call of his brother’s reoccurring lover. He was intent on ridding the world of four fools that just committed suicide.
It never occurred to Juka that Venus might not actually be Venus nor did it occur to him that the non-Venus might actually be serious about his statement of impending death towards the attacking himans. What did occur to Juka was that his Venus, his loving, beautiful Prince Venus was in trouble and that he had to save his lovely Prince. Who ever said that princesses couldn't be heroes?
Juka sent his anvils spinning around his head and with a battle cry of "Leave my Venus alone!" charged from the air to the offending humans. The humans didn't have much chance to react before Juka was upon them. They stood there dumbfounded for a moment, tyring to absorb the reality of a floating boy in a dress flying at them with 4 anvils whirlwinding around his bubble. He took out one of the men with bats before he or any of the others had the slightest chance to react, anvil colliding with his head sending him tumbling to the ground unconscious. He was careful not to hit him too hard, not wanting to kill the man, only incapacitate him.
It wasn't quite the type of crime that he had been planning on stopping, but it was still plenty heroic to save his dearest prince. No matter that Venus could probably take care of himself even without Juka's help, that wasn't the point. He was a proper hero, surely. "
One of the offending humans, having finally had time to react to Juka's sudden experienced, charged him. His bat swung towards Juka's chest but was intercepted with an anvil. Oh, how useful such things were. Would people like that never learn that it was generally a bad idea to attack those with powers?
"Leave my Venus alone!" a voice he couldn’t quite place called out, but the sentence was enough to narrow it down to a certain group. A certain promiscuous group.
An anvil smacked into one of the foe’s heads and he suddenly liked this one. She…he? Was fun. The hesitation only lasted a moment as one man went to the ground and then the other attacked. Abyss took a step forward and punched the guy holding the knife in such a way that made his body skip down the road and eventually smack into a parked car further down the road. It couldn’t have been pretty. He might have survived if he had been what he hated so much. But as it was he was a delicate little human with a penchant for stupidity.
The man with the chain still had the audacity to swing the chain at him Abyss simply smiled and whipped his arm around and from there it was a game of how long could he hold on. Abyss swung the chain in a circle after initially jerking him off his feet. You’d be surprised at the tenacity of some human’s when they are about to die. He held on admirably long, and then he must have fainted or something because the screaming stopped and then his body went rocketing into the sky. “Good bye moron.” Abyss grumbled casually as he turned his eyes to see how the last of the four was sizing up. baseball bat versus mutation.
Juka wasn't paying much attention to his Venus and how he was dealing with the threatening humans, no more attention than to be aware of the fact that he was protecting himself from the threat. Ahh, so his lovely prince was both beautiful and knew how to take care of himself, was there anything that he couldn't do? Any trait in which he wasn't perfect? Fleeting though these thoughts were, given the current threat, he woudldn't have even had them had he realized that, far from merely incapacitating the thugs, Venus was killing them. The idea that his Prince could be a killer, just as bad as Aura, didn't even cross his mind. Why should it?
Juka concerned his attention with the remaining thug who was currently waving his baseball bat in a threatening manner in Juka's direction. For an instant he affiliated with some mutants' beliefs that humans really were stupid. What could he hope to do against a floating boy in a bubble armed with 200 lb anvils anyway? Annoyed that he should even have to deal with such a pest, Juka dove at the man, anvils swinging. The first anvil struck the baseball bat, shattering it, the second struck the man's head and he toppled much like his first unfortunate victim had done only moments before. Unless he had struck them far harder than he had intended to, both would survive with nothing more than a splitting headache and (hopefully) a new respect for mutant prowess.
“Good bye moron.”
That didn't sound right at all, not at all like his precious Venus. And there was screaming and the two human victims looked far worse for wear than Juka's victims. He refused to consider, however, that they were dead. Surely he had just gone a little overboard and with proper doctoring they would recover. "Venus?" Juka asked, hesitantly. No, something definately wasn't right here.
Bat zero, mutation two. It was laughable the man swung at the anvil for goodness sake. and the bat shattered like confetti, then the anvil smacked into the mans skull putting him under. he smiled at the young man flying before him.
~~"Venus?"
"I am afraid, I am more a fighter than a lover, I am Abyss. I don't know if Venus mentioned, but there are six look a likes running around, undermining his charm and good taste. " He grinned at his fellow mutant. " I can't help but be happy though, that someone would be willing with out hesitation to help him. it makes me happy for him."
He paused again. Taking in the indecision on the young man's face. " I am sorry if I have disappointed you too much by not being Venus." the tone was playful, while he was of course not to sorry that he wasn't Venus, he didn't purposefully want to disappoint a friend of his. Abyss wrapped the chain around one of his arms. it could be useful if he ran into anyone else so foolish as to want to fight him.
"A pleasure to meet you Abyss." The words were said with just a little hesitance, given the state of the thugs that had been dealt with (which he still refused to admit were probably dead) but he was Venus' brother, after all. Juka bowed and, if the bow was a little less formal than usual, it still portrayed respect.
With another uncomfortable look at the bodies lying littered on the ground, Juka floated a few feet away, hoping that Abyss would follow and they would be able to exit the grisly scene. That way, at least, he wouldn't have to think about it too much. "Venus mentioned brothers, I just didn't think about them. And don't worry, I'm happy to meet his family, even if they aren't the lovers he is." A seductive wink followed the words.
"So what brings you to this part of town?"
Juka looked at the ground sheepishly. "I was bored and I wanted to find someone to rescue but I don't really think that you needed rescuing did you?"
“And you as well, Juka.” Oh that’s right he paid attention to some of those that his brother brought home, or a hotel as the case may be. Paticularly ones with intriguing powers.
~~"Venus mentioned brothers, I just didn't think about them. And don't worry, I'm happy to meet his family, even if they aren't the lovers he is."
He laughed jovially. “ Fair enough..” he didn’t know what to add past that so he simply continued.
"So what brings you to this part of town?"
~~"I was bored and I wanted to find someone to rescue but I don't really think that you needed rescuing did you?"
“On crime patrol eh? I suppose you could have saved them instead of backing me, they were however a bunch of racists, so ready to hurt a mutant that they decided I was a good mark.” If that didn’t spell hatred to the point of utter stupidity, he didn’t know what did. “I am actually out on a simular goal though I am looking for those that need more long term help than an immediate fix, not that I would hesitate there either.” Abyss was of course talking about mutants, but surely Juka wasn’t so fool hardy to want to save the sheep was he?
“On crime patrol eh? I suppose you could have saved them instead of backing me, they were however a bunch of racists, so ready to hurt a mutant that they decided I was a good mark. I am actually out on a simular goal though I am looking for those that need more long term help than an immediate fix, not that I would hesitate there either.”
"But they attacked you," Juka stated as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, "so why would I try to save them?" It wasn't about mutants vs. not mutants it was about right vs. wrong and it was wrong to attack someone else unprovoked no matter what they were. "If someone had attacked them I would have done the same thing."
Juka continued to edge further away from the scene of the mutilated bodies. He glanced back at them, almost dispite himself. Finally it was startig to dawn on his desperately clinging to denial mind that Abyss' targets might not recover quite so readily as his were likely too. "Um...They're going to recover aren't they? I mean, you didn't really hurt them too badly did you?"
Thinking back to what had so recently happened and how well the humans had faired against the big red mutants, Juka really didn't want to have to fight Abyss. He really didn't want to learn that the humans were actually dead and it was Venus' brother's fault. No indeed, anvils or no anvils, that was just about the last thing in the world he wanted to hear. He floated a little higher, hopefully just out of Abyss's reach and his anvils began rotating again, slowly.
~~"But they attacked you," "so why would I try to save them?"
“True, its just it looks like you regret something back there.” Abyss answered casually.
~~"If someone had attacked them I would have done the same thing."
~~"Um...They're going to recover aren't they? I mean, you didn't really hurt them too badly did you?"
“Yeah, I doubt unless they got an x-gene just waiting to spring on them that they are coming back from that. But its like you said they attacked me. And wouldn’t I hadn’t been me, and you weren’t there? What if I was a little girl that had glowing eyes and those little giraffe antenna on her had and no actual powers to call her own. Where would she have been in a fight against two bats a chain and a knife? She’d be bloody and broken somewhere in alley way and then more than likely taken back to some church of humanity where they tortured her more thoroughly.”
He glanced at the Anvils and sighed. “ If you really think the worlds going to miss them then you go ahead and do what your thinking about.” It was cold , quiet tone. If Venus’ little friend was the type to sympathize with the C.O.H. well, lets put it this way, if Venus never found out where Juka disappeared too, it wasn’t his problem. His hand gripped the chain that he had just wrapped around his arm readying him self for an interesting fight.
The humans were dead. There was no coming back from dead. They wouldn't be getting up, wouldn't be recovering. Once again Juka floated a little higher, a little further away from Abyss and his chain. His anvils orbited him a little faster.
"You can't just kill people whenever you want to," Juka stated. And yet there was hesitance in his voice, unsurity. It wasn't a matter of wondering if killing was right or not, he knew it was wrong. But what Abyss had said made sense. What if he had been some innocent girl that happaned to glow and had anteanna growing out of her head? Those thugs certainly wouldn't have any qualms about killing such a person. They wouldn't think twice and that was just as wrong. Besides, they attacked him and didn't that change things at least a little?
"They shouldn't have attacked you. That was wrong, but killing them is even more wrong. You just don't do that. It turns you into a monster." Horrible traumatic memories of Aura and her hunt. And yet he still didn't make any offensive moves, still didn't want to fight. Did that make him a bad person? Probably.
~~"You can't just kill people whenever you want to,"
“If I killed humans whenever I wanted to, every single one of them that looked at me funny would be dead. No questions asked and Unfortunately you are right I can’t kill them whenever I want to.”
~~"They shouldn't have attacked you. That was wrong, but killing them is even more wrong. You just don't do that. It turns you into a monster."
“Self defense, for one is not wrong, two maybe If they didn’t already think I was a monster I wouldn’t have to worry if that little girl was going to come down the street after me, and three who was really the monster back there, the ones attacking someone because he wis big and red and had a tail? The ones with shirts proclaiming that not only are they racist the support a group that wishes for the utter destruction of our people? Or the guy just walking down the street? Would you have been offended if I had just killed a pair of nazi’s? don’t tell me what I can or can’t do, I’m sorry, but I am guessing that you haven’t seen what these humans are really capable of. Maybe encountered a brush here or there, but the real depth of the hatred some of them have for us.” Abyss stopped, looking toward the bubble of the young man before him, in all of his glory, yet he pitted him. How could one so talented be so short sighted.
“Do what you must young man, but if you are going to hit me with one of those things lets get it over with. If not then you are welcome to accompany me while I roam around seeing if anyone needs help.”
Juka wanted to hate Abyss for what he was saying. He wanted to be able to start whipping anvils at the big red mutant, to punish him for the deaths that he had just caused only moments before. But something held him back, something that he didn't entirely understand. Perhaps it had to do with the memories of what it had been like when he was trapped in his bubble and everyone around him had no choice but to see him as a mutant. In many ways Abyss was right; he had only caught a glimps of the discrimination that mutants like Abyss and Venus faced every day. He remembered the looks and comments he had gotten from everyone around him, looks of disgust and fear and hatred. And yet, he also remembered those that had been amazed at what he could do, impressed at his floating acrobatics. What was going on? Why was he so confused?
"I don't want to hit you," Juka stated, still a little hesitant and very much confused. "And I know that what thos men did was wrong. But aren't there better ways to deal with them than killing them? We can show them that we're dangerous without resorting to such extreme means. We can show them through our actions that mutants are people too and not deserving of being treated that way." He felt so much for the hypthetical mutant girl without any real powers, he really did. But that didn't make killing any more right. Did it?
Juka floated after Abyss as be began walking, not entirely sure if he meant to assist in any defence of others that was needed or if he meant to try and stop Abyss if he tried to kill again. "And I know more than you think. I was trapped in my bubble for weeks and I know how hated and feared mutants are." He hated how defensive the statement came off.
~~"And I know that what thos men did was wrong. But aren't there better ways to deal with them than killing them? We can show them that we're dangerous without resorting to such extreme means. We can show them through our actions that mutants are people too and not deserving of being treated that way."
“better ways , possibly. Permanently no. We could show them and let them run away. But what then, they have a change of heart afterward? And they come across our little friend; they wait and find out if she is dangerous? They taunt out little one and oh, she isn’t like the bubblemancer or the red beast. She isn’t dangerous, get her! yeah, look there are other ways. But not absolute ones, that choice was in their hands, they decided that hatred was their cause and that they would aim it at me, they even suspected dire repercussions or they wouldn’t have weapons at the ready. If they didn’t want to die, they shouldn’t have made the choices that led them to death.”
~~"And I know more than you think. I was trapped in my bubble for weeks and I know how hated and feared mutants are."
“Then how is it you sympathize with those that would kill you given the chance? Those that would poke prod and torture for amusement, those that would do the same to mutant children, and those that would see our race gone. I spent about a third of my life in a lab being tested on, they tried to break me, make me theirs to wield as a weapon, years they tortured me daily tempting me with a better life, if I would just do what they said. Years. My parents put me there, because I looked too much like the devil. The humans want me to be a monster, they want to chase me with pitch forks and torches, well then I suppose they will find, they should have come better equipped.”
"My anvils do what I want them to," Juka stated. His anvils didn't stop circling, however. He felt threatened by the big red mutant in a way he had never felt with Venus. Perhaps it was his ideals that felt threatened more than his sense of physical well being and although his anvils could not help protect his beliefs they did make him feel safer. Completely irrational and yet nevertheless true. Damn Abyss for making far too much sense anyway.
If they didn’t want to die, they shouldn’t have made the choices that led them to death.”
"Surely they could learn though?" It sounded niave even to his ears but he couldn't just accede the point. He couldn't, such beliefs were too much a part of who he was. "Shouldn't they have the opportunity to learn? Shouldn't they have the chance to change their ways? Maybe not everyone would be willing to change, but some are and they should be given the chance. I know I've changed, my time being trapped in my bubble changed me for the better because I was given that opportunity. Shouldn't they be given the same?" Opportunity. That was not a way he had ever looked at his time in his bubble and he wasn't even certin he entirely believed it.
It was another nail in the coffin of Juka's idealistic view of the world, he could feel it. Aura had said much the same thing in justification of his actions, the evils of humans, the things they were willing to do. He didn't understand how they could do such things and felt like crying. He didn't though and was thankful for that small mercy, at least. "But just because some horrible humans did that to you doesn't mean that you can blame others for their crimes."
