The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Nathan stepped off the bus with Amber. He’d not been certain where the bus stop had been, which route to take or where to get off, so he was very glad that Amber had agreed to show him the way. He doubted very much the amount of headway he’d have been able to make on his own. They walked together from the bus stop up the road to the mansion estate.
It was large and green, the trees and parkland forming a picturesque tableau around the stately building. It looked like an old English manor house, not a school in Westchester. Still, Nathan looked at Amber who indicated that, like the sign on the wall indicated, this was indeed the place.
Nathan walked up the path, but realising that him taking the lead was a foolish idea, was content to follow Amber, who after all, knew where she was going. While he followed, he looked out over the mansion grounds which were extensive, to say the least. A little slice of the country plastered in the middle of New York City.
His train of thoughts was a little clouded. He didn’t want to place any preconceptions here. Here was somewhere which could apparently teach him to use and control his powers. Harnessing them so that he was no more a danger to himself or others. His time so far as a mutant had not been pleasant however, so he was hoping this school was everything he wanted, but expecting a let down. It never even occurred to him that Amber might have ulterior motives. That this might be an elaborate trap. In the future, Nathan would look back on these actions as those of an amateur, but for now, he was content to be shown into paradise.
The trip from Sanctuary to the Mansion was a trip that Amber had taken many times before. So many times, in fact, that she had even gotten to know the night bus driver a little bit. He was human, as far as she knew, and one of the few humans that was actually consistently nice to her, right from their first meeting when Koga had first taken her to visit the Mansion. She smiled at the driver as she got on the bus, which was still fairly busy since it wasn't all that late out yet and smiled at him again as she got off the bus.
Once off the bus, it was only a couple short blocks walk from the bus stop to the Mansion gates and she rang the buzzer in order to be allowed in, ushering Nathan to come inside with her. It brought back memories of her own first time there with Koga, and how awe inspiring the entire experience was. Not only was it an institute of learning, which was wonderful enough, but it was an institute of learning that specialized in helping mutants. That first trip had been in the middle of the night an there hadn't been much going on at the time, but even then she could see glimpses of that potential. It was busier now and Amber grinned at Nathan, anticipating his response.
"Someone should be around t-to register you for c-classes, if you decide you want to of course. In the meantime, c-care for a tour?" Amber was actually looking forward to being able to show Nathan around. Maybe they'd even run into her not-boyfriend Kai and be able to introduce the two of them. Even if they didn't, there was so much to see and so much to show him. Things were shaping up nicely.

There was so much of the mansion to show off, but of course, all visitors first had to go to the main offices to get greeted. As the two people entered his doorway, Shin looked up from his scattered math homework. He deftly scooped it up, and hid it away in a desk drawer with his other texts. Yes, he'd been studying on the job. He needed all the time he could get for college work.
"Greetings," He said. "New student? What's your name? I'm Shin."
He got up, walking around the side of his desk to extend a hand towards Nathan. A tiny silver chain bracelet dangled dangerously from his wrist as the hand moved forwards.
Nathan marvelled at the extent of the mansion as he was shown inside, smiling as he saw students and teachers alike roaming the corridors, some with clear evidence of their mutations and some that he could only guess at. He supposed it was possible that some of them weren’t mutants, but given the nature of the facility, that seemed unlikely. He looked in interest at the many sprawling hallways and corridors of the mansion, but Amber knew precisely where she was going.
She led him to the main offices, the place to be if he were to sign up. Someone stood up from behind the front desk with no visible mutations. Nathan wondered if the staff here were mutants. Honestly, how many mutants could there be in New York City? Most of them appeared to be here. Nathan smiled, liking the atmosphere already.
>> "Greetings, new student? What's your name? I'm Shin."
Nathan smiled at the greeting, and as a hand was outstretched to him he went in to shake it, replying “Hello Shin, my name’s Nathan. I’m-.” was as far as he got, noticing the thin chain of silver that hung from Shin’s wrist like a noose. He didn’t want to do any damage here, and certainly not to scare anyone with a sudden transformation. Those thoughts were secondary to a growing instinctive reaction to the sight of metal, however, causing him to recoil away; pulling his hand back at the last second. He closed his eyes as he realised how rude he must have seemed in doing so and hastened to explain “Sorry, I…it’s my mutation, I can’t…I can’t touch metal.” he explained, haltingly, wondering what Shin’s reaction would be. Did he have to deal with this sort of thing regularly or would he feel hurt?
Amber was enjoying seeing the expression on Nathan's face as they entered the Mansion doors. It mirrored her own expression rather closely from the first time that she had come to the Mansion. Kind of a look of wonder and bewilderment and she grinned back up at him. It was definitely a good choice to bring him there.
It was then that Shin appeared from somewhere and, of all the greeters that resided at the Mansion, of course it had to be Shin. Shin who had once, alongside the cat lady Sara, saved her from an angry mob in the streets of New York when she had still been new to her powers. She had never had the opportunity to thank him and, in fact, wasn't even certain he knew who she was given that the only time she had seen him she was trapped in the form of a Deinonychus.
Amber began speaking all in a rush, suddenly nervous in the presence of her savior. "I d-don't know if you remember me but you saved m-me when I was a dinosaur running around New York and I'm sure there can't be m-many other dinosaurs let alone dinosaurs that you've saved but I wanted to say than you and I'm g-grateful and what you did was amazing." Finally exhaling her cheeks turned a bright red colour and she stared down at her feet nervously.
"And th-that's Nathan. He's my f-friend and wanted to become a student." Which of course was all ready apparent but Amber had to say something to fill the awkward silence.

The boy's bright reply quickly morphed into something else. Nathan's hand shrunk back from his own in horror. It huddled and hid, away from him.
Shin tilted his head. That seemed a little strange. Usually, students were all-too-willing to shake his hand. Was there something wrong with his hand? Was it infected with the T-virus? Would he turn into some hulking tongue-beast or a zombie? Had he been playing a little too much Resident Evil lately? As he stopped looking at the palm of his hand, and once again made eye contact with the new student, Shin decided it was all of the above... and more!
"Ah..." A finger went to the metal bracelet, tugging it up and off the wrist. Shin slid it safely away into a shirt pocket. Triangular pupils carefully examined Nathan's face as he stood there.
The boy's companion started speaking quickly, and the examining look shattered. Shin glanced the girl's way. She was stuttering, and had pale skin. He'd seen her around the halls of the mansion, but Shin hadn't had a chance to actually talk with her. According to her, he'd met her before. As a... dinosaur?
Ah yes. An average day in New York. Shin gave the slightest of nods in recognition, accompanied by a tiny 'ah'. "That's right. With the police, back when I first got my badge. I remember. I'm glad to see you're doing well. I'm sure we can get Nathan's things all sorted out. Would you also like a room here?" Shin asked, casually slipping around his desk again. He opened up a file cabinet, wrenching free a few papers from a folder. He slid the papers across the desk, and nodded towards the chairs, before slipping into his own. "Please, have a seat and fill those out." He said. "And tell me about yourself."
He looked to the girl with a small smile. "If you'd like to, you can stay. This shouldn't take too long."
Nathan took a seat in one of the indicated chairs and smiled at Amber. He was glad she was still here since otherwise he’d be completely without anyone he knew. He looked at the paperwork that had been placed in front of him, and was surprised at the relative paucity. He’d been expecting reams of signatures required and cartfuls of red tape to go through. He wasn’t American after all, but that didn’t seem to matter.
He picked a plastic pen off the desk. It was a biro, but he was wary of the tip. He didn’t know what metal it was made out of, but it was definitely metal which was reason enough to be cautious. He filled out the forms one at a time. They were fairly simple, name, age, date of birth, etc. He might have been filling in forms at a bank or the doctor’s office.
He heard the conversation between Shin and Amber and grinned as he overheard the details of their first meeting. So this guy was a cop? Or a secretary? Maybe both. Nathan continued, signing and dating away, feeling more like a clerk and less like a student with every mark he made on the paper.
Nathan realised Shin was still waiting for him to go ahead and talk about himself so he did so, slowing down on the paperwork, but ultimately saving time. Or so he hoped. “Well, my name’s Nathan. I’m from England originally, but way down south. London. I first discovered what I was about a month ago. I stepped in front of a bus.” Nathan paused for breath and then quickly continued.
“Oh, I wasn’t trying to kill myself or anything like that! I mean, I stepped out to save a kid, but I couldn’t get out of the way…anyway. That’s when I found out that when metal touched me I turned into it. Like…a living form of it. Well, my parents were terrified of me. My brother was scared of me and my sister cried every time I came into the same room. Eventually they couldn’t stand the sight of me and threw me out.” he said, the picture of calm, but holding the pen so tightly the plastic was whitening at the strain.
“Well, of course then I had nowhere to go. No-one wanted anything to do with me, and when they found out what I was, none of my friends would even talk to me. But you always hear on the news about mutants in America. Especially NY. So I emptied my savings account and got on a plane. And now I’m here.” There was of course more to the story than that, but that was all he needed to talk about right now. Conveniently, ‘right now’ happened to coincide with the last signature he had to make.
Amber remembered well the paper work that she'd had to fill out only a couple months prior when Maya had found her sneaking onto Mansion property. Now that had been a stressful experience, to be caught sneaking into the school then fed cookies and told that she wasn't allowed to go home until the next day because it just happened to be the middle of the night at the time. But at least it had all ended well and the Maya had turned out to be a very nice air mutant. Plus, if not for that day she wasn't certain she'd even be going to school at the Mansion. After being fed cookies she had filled out a bunch of paperwork, mainly just the basics about her name, age, power and if there was anything dangerous about her power that might be a risk to anyone else. Thankfully, there really wasn't.
"Oh, I have a r-room," Amber answered, grinning because she was thankful for her little speech having gone over well despite the embarrassing stuttering. She was working on that problem, honestly, and was even making progress for the most part. Except when she was nervous then it came back full tilt. "With Henri. Wh-who moves her hair around." Just in case he was more familiar with the power than with the name.
It was the first time Amber had heard the whole story regarding how Nathan had discovered his powers and she empathized. At least the discovery of her own mutant heritage had been more private, a simple changing of the colour of her eyes when she woke up, even if it was still traumatic. Then the discovery of her power came in the chaos of Kai's flower shop, amidst humans attacking them and poor Kaitlyn accidentally blowing the place up. Sure that had been traumatic, but at least the only people there to see it had been people she trusted.
"D-don't worry, everyone's really nice here," Amber assured Nathan. While some of the mutants at Sanctuary were more than a little intimidating and even downright scary in some cases, she had yet to find anyone mean at The Mansion. That didn't mean there wasn't any, of course, but she took it as a good sign. There was a reason she loved going there.

As Nathan talked about the first activation of his powers, Shin couldn't help it. He pictured Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho diving in front of a moving car to save a toddler who'd ran out to save his ball.
Yusuke had died.
The kid had been fine.
He'd have been fine no matter what Yusuke had done.
Shin certainly hoped this wasn't a similar case. It sounded rough. Shin nodded quietly, and let him finish. The boy's voice sounded calm as he told the story, but Shin had to figure that was an act. Nobody could be that calm about their parents kicking them out, not even himself.
Shin glanced to Amber and nodded. She had a room, too. That was good. He didn't think he'd met the hair-girl. Her power sounded neat, though. A punnier person might have called it hair-raising, but of course, that person's name would have been Carlos, not Shin.
Amber assured Nathan everyone here was nice. "Yeah, they are." Shin smiled. "Nearly done with that?" He arched a finger to point at the paperwork.
Nathan smiled at the reassurances and his hand relinquished its penetrating grip on the pen. The pen wondered precisely what it had done to deserve such agonising treatment…but said nothing. “Thank you. Both” he said gratefully, breathing out slowly. It hurt to talk about these things, but everyone had issues and it helped no-body to keep them all bottled up inside him. Eventually the pressure would force them out, and he wouldn’t want to see himself like that.
No, it was better by far to continually vent pressure. Every time he did it hurt a little less. He hoped it never stopped, though. As long as it still hurt, he was still him. But maybe, now, a him that could move on and try to sort out his life again.
>> "Nearly done with that?"
Nathan slid the paperwork across the table, putting the lid back on the biro and casually placing it down, the stress-marks where his fingers had pinched into the plastic visible to everyone. He didn’t care. See him not caring? This was his calm face, and he was careful not to let it crack. “Yeah. Thanks again.” he said, and waited for Shin to pick up and go over his forms. “Is that it? I mean, is there a test or something?” he asked, half to Amber who had been through this before, after all, almost unable to believe that there really was a school that could help him.
The entire process seemed so much more official than when Amber had registered to join the Mansion. Maybe it had to do with the fact that when she registered it was around 3 am and it was after breaking into the Mansion and getting caught. It had been something of an embarrassing and confusing night, although at least it had ended well. Maya really was a sweet lady, no doubt about it. Now that she thought of it, she hadn't really thanked her properly either. She'd have to bake her cookies sometime.
"Th-that's pretty much what my start here was like," Amber answered although she looked towards Shin to be sure that there wasn't anything else to it. After all, her start there was kind of unusual. Who knew, maybe there was some secret test or something that she was supposed to take but never did.
"D-do you want a tour?" Amber asked. She sent one more look Shin's way just in case he either wanted to be the one to lead the tour or in case there was more to do before a tour could commence. It really would be fun to have someone else coming and going from school with her. Maybe she'd even have someone to take the bus with.

"That's it," Shin said simply. "You're all set. Oh! One more thing!" He turned, and tapped a few keys on his computer. Words whipped by on the screen quickly as he searched something out. The boy had wanted a room, hadn't he? Shin would find him one. Of course, it wasn't like the system was perfect. Sometimes, people had to share rooms. He couldn't always find one that was without the need for roommates. This was such a case. "Aha!" Shin exclaimed. "Found you a room. You'll have a roomie. The room number is..." He turned to a desk drawer, took a moment to sift through it, and magically found the key he was looking for on the spot. He pulled it free like Arthur wrenching the sword from the stone, high in the air for all the world to see, then stopped, and wrapped it in a handy tissue for him. "Written on this key here. Careful, it's metal." The boy had not wanted to touch metal, right?
"As for your tour, I think miss Dinosaur-girl can handle that. That's a super-cool form, by the way." Shin said. "I'll just busy myself with handling this super fun paperwork. You two can take the long, boring tour. Make sure to show him the recreational room. There's a Wii. It's totally a drag."
That was that. With the final line of irony, they were done with all the hard stuff. Shin left Nathan in the girl's capable, if pale, hands.
Nathan listened to both the assurances that this was all that Amber had had to go through, and the fact that he’d have to share a room. He didn’t mind, particularly, it was just that…well, no he didn’t mind. He put on his gloves again and took the keys carefully. He really couldn’t impose any limitations on what was, after all, a free place to stay. And learn. Nathan still couldn’t quite believe such a place existed…how was it funded? He was waiting for the catch, but apparently there wasn’t one. Apparently.
It was just some enormous mansion/school that would feed and house him for free, as well as giving him a top-notch education and where the fact that he was a mutant wouldn’t be an issue. And did I mention it was free? Oh, yeah, definitely nothing suspicious going on there…
>> "D-do you want a tour?"
Nathan glanced to Amber who was looking to Shin for approval. He gave it and began to busy himself in paperwork. Nathan smiled and got up to follow Amber and be shown around the place. As they were about to leave, he stopped, turned back to Shin and was about to mouth a question, but then thought better of it. Ignorance was bliss, why ruin it?
