The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Garrett stood at the Mansion gates, a sense of wonder and exhilaration permeating him. This is the sensation he should have felt the first time he approached the gates. Of course, back then, he was homeless and basically clueless. Now he was a man of his own, a man with ambition and direction. The old Garrett wouldn't recognize the one standing here. The hair was giveaway enough.
Experienced eyes scanned the grounds, seeing some of the kids that used to recoil from the 'Pain Man'. They saw that the thicket where he and Maya had spent their tender moments had been cleared away. It was a good thing. Many of the old things needed to be swept away from the floor so that new life could sprout in its place.
He had his work cut out for him in spades. He had enrolled too late at NYU, so he would have to jump in on the winter semester and take an overload of subjects. The Mansion's library and the peace and quiet of his old room would give him the resources he needed to balance that out. DocProf could help him with his studies and he had the Infirmary to practice in. It was an amusing thought for Garrett, remembering the day he had met Dryad and he was wearing that doctor's coat. That had even been before the dream. Destiny was patient, it seemed.
The Danger Room and its extensive arsenal could help him train in martial arts again. Though, there was a greater purpose evident while the subject of destiny was on the table. While not a man of great ego, Garrett had a strong feeling that had he never left the Mansion, he would have been a vital member of the X-Men. Maya and he had even spoke of his desire to lead. Now, with the experience of the enemy under his belt, Garrett felt that he could really excel in that endeavor.
Of course, before any of his grand designs could take shape, he had to push the button. He did so, a tinny voice responding.
She was sitting on a tree. Legs shifted once again as she let out a slight yawn. Alexandra was getting stiff sitting in the damn tree but, as far as she knew it was the only near quiet place in the mansion. Even inside her room she was often disturbed by those who decided to take their conversation in front of her room. A sigh escaped her lips as voices in the distance could now be heard. So much for her quiet moment, the molecule manipulator thought as her eyes trailed to the kids running around on the grass.
Alexandra was about to hop off from the tree when the sound of a car caught her attention. She shifted her position carefully as she leaned over a branch to see if the car was stopping at the mansion. It did, and Alexandra could now clearly read the 'Iris Clinic' logo on it. An eyebrow arched with curiosity as the driver got out. No one she knew, she noticed. Moving quietly to have a better look, Alexandra watched how he stopped at the gates, looking at the grounds for a few moments. Was it a new resident? Someone making a delivery? A scout? Only time could tell the answer, but until then Alexandra remained behind the yellowish leafs of her favorite tree.
When the man reached for the intercom button Alexandra decided that it was time for her to make her appearance. After closing the book she had been reading, she threw it to the ground. She didn't like it anyway, she thought as the book hit the ground with a loud thud. Climbing down, she picked the book and rushed to the gate where the man was waiting. "Hi!" she said with a welcoming smile on her lips. "Do you mind pressing the cancel button? I'll open the gate for you."
A click of a button later the gates were slowly opening to let the man inside.
A thud came from Garrett's right and his heart nearly stopped. A female form dropped from a tree and for a moment he thought it might be Neena. His heartbeat quickened but soon settled as the voice asked him to press the cancel button. His finger did so without him looking, as it was still familiar with the gate's interface. Poor heart, as it quickened again once the lithe and beautiful woman came into sight. Her figure and startling eyes made Garrett realize his mouth was open. He closed it quickly, turning the look of Whoa! into Hi!
The gates opened slowly and he looked forward to entering them again. Once he had crossed the threshold, his demeanor lightened even further. Stepping lightly to meet the woman, his hand extended on reflex, to say hello and to do its business." Hey there. Garrett Wills. Pleasure to meet you. I was wondering if DocProf was around? I am going to be working here at the Mansion with him soon and would like to catch up with him."
He tried desperately not to devour her with his eyes. She didn't look like a student, Chemistry book or not. Whoever she was, Garrett looked forward to getting to know her better. He was, after all, unabatedly and wholly single these days. Aside from all of the other benefits of returning to the Mansion, the walking vision before him quickly made it to the top five.
She had this slight impression that he was starring at her. And yet, when she had turned around after pushing the button that opened the gates, the man seemed to look at her normally. Alexandra gave a mental shrug at this, she might as well be mistaking. She pushed another button on the keyboard and when the gate started to reverse its motion, she paced away to properly greet the guest. As she reached him, his hands was already extended. Taking it, Alexandra firmly squeezed it for a few moments before letting it go.
" Hey there. Garrett Wills. Pleasure to meet you. I was wondering if DocProf was around? I am going to be working here at the Mansion with him soon and would like to catch up with him."
Garrett suddenly got her interest. He was going to work with the doc prof? Funny, she didn't recalled the doc prof telling her about a new addition to the infirmary staff. "Alexandra Kettler. You can also call me Alex if you'd like. It's a pleasure to meet you, too." A polite smile adorned her features as she spoke, and when she finished a hand combed trough her hair. A frown appeared on the molecule manipulator's face as she picked up a leaf from it. She let it fall to the ground and ran her hand trough her hair again checking if there were more. When she found none, her full attention was turned back to Garrett. "Trees." she muttered, shaking her head slightly. "Well, Garrett, this is your lucky day, it seems. I was just heading to the Infirmary." She said with a slight grin. She chose not to share the fact that she was also working with the doc prof yet, Garrett would soon find out anyway. "Shall we?" Alexandra asked as her hand gestured toward the mansion.
Once he had passed the threshold, Garrett returned the friendly smile, gripping the hand of the vision before him. She had a strong and sure grip, while her skin was luxurious. As their hands parted, her neural system was mapping itself in an overlay of her curves. Garrett kept eye contact to avoid what was a type of intrusive vision of the form before him as it filled out, literally. He sent an imperceptible shudder through her nerves, grooming them in a sense. He wanted to use a light touch, leaving a sensation of warmth and comfort, similar to being snuggled in a favorite blanket or the mild warmth and euphoria of the first shot of whiskey.
"Alexandra Kettler. You can also call me Alex if you'd like. It's a pleasure to meet you, too." His curiosity was further piqued by the remnants of an accent. Her general facial structure was enough to guess she had foreign parents, but her accent said something of Eastern Europe. " I think I will stick with Alexandra. Suits you better. Of course, I don't know you so well yet." Perhaps that would change in time. He watched her run her fingers through her silken locks, feeling envious of the digits. She looked at the leaf as if it had dared to impose on her, discarding it. The motion only increased Garrett's appreciation.
"Well, Garrett, this is your lucky day, it seems. I was just heading to the Infirmary. Shall we?" A flourish of her long, delicate fingers toward the Mansion directed garrett to follow. He was lucky indeed, though he hoped he wouldn't be so distracted as to forget the good DocProf. She seemed like the kind of woman that only made you want to look at her more, not less. No doubt she was a mutant as well, which only amplified her attractiveness, if that was possible.
The sensation of warmth had run trough her body once Garrett had let go of her hand, making the molecule manipulator stopping for a moment to enjoy and analyze it. She couldn't quite place her finger on it but it felt comforting and ... good. Alexandra smiled as the reminiscences of the mysterious sensation were fading away and focused on what Garrett was saying.
" I think I will stick with Alexandra. Suits you better. Of course, I don't know you so well yet."
The molecule manipulator nodded slightly at his pick and smirked at his last comment. "I have a feeling that we'll get to know each other better." She replied, mystery wrapped around her voice and sparkling in her eyes as she looked at him. Garrett had yet to learn that they apparently were to work together, and when he did, he would also find out the meaning of her words. Her body started to move toward the mansion, her pacing slow but ready to be quickened if Garrett felt like doing so.
Curiosity arose inside her mind as they were walking and since the doc hadn't mentioned anything about Garrett she was interested in finding out the basics. The first question was if Garrett was a mutant. She was almost 100% sure that he was, humans had this certain fear perceptible in their eyes whenever they were in the presence of a mutant, and, Garrett walked inside a school full of them with confidence and a relaxed attitude that only one of her kind could possess. And that meant she would get to the next question. "Are you also a healer?" Alexandra asked as her head turned to the side to not only listen but also watch Garrett's answer.
Feelings were part of Garrett's life. Be they physical, emotional, or possibly precognitive, feelings created his world. Hearing that Alexandra was feeling that they would indeed get to know each other better confirmed that his residual neural grooming had been successful. That and the lingering, delicious smirk she wore. He smiled back, the confidence and twinkles in their eyes only strengthening his resolve. He opened the large doors of the Mansion, waiting for her to enter before he did. Ladies first, always.
"Are you also a healer?" Did that mean she was? It would make sense as to why she was heading to the Infirmary as well, though he preferred to believe that it was to remain in his company. Delusions were fun like that. He was once a doctor, overseeing the medical needs of an entire Antarctic colony. As impressive as that might have sounded, it also had never really happened. At least in this version of reality. He hoped to rectify that hiccup in the time stream. Of course, that was no answer to give. " Well, I'm going to college to be a doctor. I work at the Iris Clinic with Sebastian Csendes, a great mutant healer. Personally, my own talents cover the nervous system. I can exert control over my own or others' nervous systems. So, together, we have the capacity to heal many maladies."
While it may have seemed silly to show his hand so early, he felt that Alexandra was not the type of woman you lied to, even about little things. He'd rather give away that the neural grooming was artificial than let her believe he had manipulated her for a nefarious reason. " I'm hoping to work with Nathan, hopefully in a mentoring relationship as I go to college. I have a room here where I used to live here and plan to study here, using the library and his resources while working at the Clinic during the day." He waited for her to pass him through the threshold before entering and closing the door behind him.
As Alexandra and Garrett reached the mansion's doors, she slowed down to a stop, carefully listening to Garrett's explanations, her face lighted up with interest while the only movement she allowed herself was to blink and lightly tap her fingers against each other behind her back. What got most of her attention was his mutation, control over the nervous system and in a few moments, something clicked inside her mind. Did he-
Alexandra kept her self quiet, keeping her questions stored for a bit later. She nodded in agreement as he shared his capability to heal an increased number of maladies. She wasn't that much into healing the others, that was in her nature, but since some seemed to enjoy helping others the least she could do was to agree with them. Smirking slightly at hearing the doc being called Nathan and arching a slightly surprised eyebrow at learning that he had already been a resident, Alexandra finally made her way trough the mansion's doors which Garrett, like a true gentleman, kept open.
On the other side, she stopped, waiting for Garrett to come and once he was beside her, Alexandra started to move again. "You must have been a resident a while ago since I've never seen you around." she commented. Blue eyes turned to where a few kids, probably not older than 13-14 were looking in her and Garrett's direction, then turned their heads away, whispering and giggling. Riiight. Slightly shaking her head, her eyes moved back to Garrett."But then again, people come and go almost on daily base, so..." she let the words trail into the air while looking away for a few moments absent-minded.
Blue eyes snapped back to Garrett, the corner of her lips rising slightly with amusement. A questioning look scanned deeper inside the man, ready to go past the words as she prepared her next question. "You say you manipulate the nervous system, yes?" Her smile widened a bit, as her tongue ran over her lips, slightly wetting them. "You didn't happen to use that earlier, didn't you?"
He was keeping her attention, surely. The kids in the Mansion agreed, their giggles and whispers telltale signs of approval of the situation. The fact that they didn't shriek and run in terror made Garrett feel easier himself. Of course, the hair might have done it as well. Time could be healing the wounds as well. Whatever the case, the deep pools of blue that continued to meet his own kept him in check and on point. He closed the door behind them as she entered after."You must have been a resident a while ago since I've never seen you around."
Truer words had not been spoken in some time. Was it time ot mention that he had been helping to reorganize the Order in his absence? Lying was one thing, choosing when to speak the truth quite another. " Yes, I had an accident here and had to go away for a while. I don't think I could ever live here full time again, but this place made me. I cannot turn my back on it." His own nerves were swaying in the wind, like autumn wheat."But then again, people come and go almost on daily base, so..." No reason to answer that or try to tackle it. Not now anyway.
Eyes were on him again, no doubt the cause for his own tingling."You say you manipulate the nervous system, yes? You didn't happen to use that earlier, didn't you?" She wetted her lips while asking the question, causing Garrett to forget that he was on Earth for a moment. He missed the first step to the staircase, catching himself on the rail. Smooth move, Ex-Lax. he could only chuckle at himself. He looked at her directly in the eyes before trying to walk and talk at the same time." I suppose I did. I wanted to make an impression. I hope I am so far. I also hope you don't mind the intrusion. I am happy to make it up to you. I can make the sensation stop. Or.."" His eyes took on a deeper quality. "...I can intensify it." Garrett returned the coy smile that he was given as he began to walk up the stairs toward the halls, waiting for her if necessary." Maybe we can talk about it some more after I get settled in?"
Alexandra smiled as she turned her head away fro Garrett, as she started to move up on the stairs. "Well, Garrett, I'm sure you are capable to make a good impression without using your mutation." She paused for a moment as they reached the top of the stairs and pivoted on her feet, turning around so she could be face to face with Garrett. "I don't mind you doing it but next time I would like to know." Alexandra winked slightly at the man, before turning on her heels again, continuing her walk but slowing down so Garrett could easily catch up with her.
"Speaking of getting settled in. You need help with that?" Alexandra stopped in front of the infirmary, a hand placed on the door knob ready to open the door. "I'm not a greeter but I guess I could help you if you need anything... or put you in touch with the right persons." A small smile touched her lips while her hand rotated the door knob slightly.
First she was extending herself and now retracting. It beat recoiling, but it was still something to notice. Of course Alexandra was used ot men falling all over her. Now she was hemming up her friendliness and long looks in the face of something. It wasn't revulsion, so attraction or an amiable neutrality was a fine second. Garrett felt as if he should be reigning himself in as well. He had certainly gotten ahead of himself, going out on a limb with her when he used his gift."Well, Garrett, I'm sure you are capable to make a good impression without using your mutation." That verified that even were he human, he might be in the same ballpark.
When they reached the top of the stairs, she took pause and turned to face him."I don't mind you doing it but next time I would like to know." She began walking again, but he sped up to catch her, placing his hand on her shoulder to stop her in the hallway. "I'm really sorry about that. That's the first time I ever put my hands on an unwilling participant without leaving them in a shivering bundle. I really shouldn't have gone so far and I apologize for taking such liberties when you only just met me." Garrett was humbled not only by her beauty, but by his apologetic nature when he had so clearly been out of line.
They were outside the Infirmary and she was ready to step in, asking if he needed help getting settled. It seemed funny to him."I know my way around. I've certainly done enough pacing of the place at night, back when my mind wasn't quite so stable." He took a breath before speaking, as new found freedom was giving him courage. " I would like the chance to make it up to you, but as usual, we should probably take care of business first." He stood back and smiled, giving her the space she could probably appreciate.
A sigh left her lips, followed by a smile. A small hand made its way to the side of Garrett’s arm as Alexandra tilted her head to the side. “Really, Garrett. I’m not upset with you because you’ve used your powers on me.” Alexandra paused, her hand going back to its previous position as the smile faded away to a more serious expression. “I just said I want to know the next time, okay?” Her shoulders raised for a moment, only to be left down in the next one. “So… no worries and nothing to apologize for!”
Brown haired head turned to the door, hand rotating the knob a little more before she paused. A few more moments passed until blinking blue eyes traveled back to Garrett. “And my offer is still standing. If you happen to need anything, tell me, okay?” A genuine smile appeared on her lips, then, with a deep breath, she fully rotated the knob but kept the door closed. “Now let’s get you to the doc!”
The door was pushed open as she moved in the Infirmary, head turning to the side in search of the Doc Prof. “Dooooc!” she called out as soon as she saw the older man with his head stuck in the medicine cabinet, mumbling something as he picked up a small transparent bottle filled with brown liquid. The vial almost escaped his hands as he pulled his head back, a frown appearing on his face. “Alexandra, no need to yell…” he complained as he placed the bottle back and turned toward his assistant. An innocent smile appeared on her face as she looked back. “Garrett Wills is here.” she announced as she looked back to the man with a wink and gestured him to come forward.
Beauty and grace combined. Rare was the jewel before him. She insisted that there was no harm done with the intrusion of his gift on her, which relieved him. Garrett was still working the kinks out of his morality, though. It took time to go from egomaniac to philanthropist. He accepted the gesture with honor, nodding in an understanding way. He felt that should he open his mouth again, he would only end up putting his foot in it, as he was accustomed to doing. Alexandra also reiterated her offer to help, which he continued to nod in assent to, looking forward to seeing Nathan.
“Dooooc!” Smooth and sultry quickly became loud and boisterous. It seemed to be a bit excessive, considering the size of the Mansion's Infirmary. It seemed to startle the DocProf as much as it did Garrett, who jumped at the sound. Alexandra looked over and gestured for Garrett to enter, which he did.“Garrett Wills is here.” The old man seemed to look like someone had spoken to him in a foreign language for a moment, staggering slightly out into the open air of the room.
His eyes scanned Garrett as if he was also seeing in a foreign language. "I -I didn't think I would ever see you again, Garrett. Didn't you--uh--" Garrett tried to calm the honored man before him with the truth. Best way, really. " Join the Order? I did, yes. But after experiencing the dream of the future and seeing all the horrors and suffering that Haywire brought, I left that organization after destroying all traces of the virus. I also shot Syn, so no worries about me going back over." It came out in such a lackadaisical fashion, mostly since he had repeated it often.
Eyebrows furrowed for a moment. "Shot her? That hardly seems like you, Garrett." The neural manipulator nodded solemnly." I did everything I could to get the virus samples and her key cards to the vault. She just wouldn't hand it over, so I had to take desperate measures. In my mind, there was no action that could outweigh the potential cost of millions of lives, both human and mutant."
The room fell silent for a moment. It was no real surprise to Garrett that the news might be surprising. Perhaps it was his usual control over himself and his normal reactions to anxiety that made it seem normal to him. DocProf took a seat and seemed to be absorbing it fairly well, though. "Anyway, I am enrolling in college now and going pre-med. I am also working with Sebastian Csendes at the Iris Clinic, using our gifts to aid mutants and humans alike. I was invited by Sam and Maya to come back and use my old room, so I thought I would, considering the resources in the library and here in the Infirmary. I wondered if you might serve as a mentor for me while I undertook this great voyage?" More than likely he would. He just needed the time to take it all in. Garrett had several months in the hospital to do his thinking and absorbing.
There was an interesting discussion going on between Garrett and the Doc, one which she decided to listen while slightly leaning on the wall, arms folded in front of her. What Garrett was sharing with the Doc surprised her to a certain degree but perhaps not as much as it should have. It actually made her believe that the two of them had something in common. Hiding a smile, she tilted her head to the side, blue eyes trailing from a man to the other, observing with interest the difference which they approached the situation. Garrett was confident, the Doc was surprised and unsure what to say.
When the room fell silent, she decided to step in, an attempt to help the Doc, who was clearly unprepared for this situation. Pushing her self off the wall, she made a step forward and stopped to Garrett’s side. “Well, Doc, I think that I should retire and let the two of you talk?” Well, perhaps not the best interruption ever but at least would buy the Doc some time to think about Garrett’s suggestion.
The eyes of the older man moved to the molecular manipulator, the hint of the frown that was on his face disappearing while he shook his head slightly. “Oh, no no, no. You’re not going anywhere. There are files waiting for you and you are already half an hour late.” the man said. Alexandra smiled graciously. Of course she knew that would be the answer, her whole time at the infirmary was spent tormenting the man, and although he seemed to be upset on her actions, he never was. “Well then, I guess I’ll stick around then.” She replied with a small shrug, eyes moving to Garrett.
