The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

A phone call would have been good. A phone call would have avoided a lot of difficulties presented by mutant powers and strong emotions. A phone call would have been the smartest, most efficient way to handle the delivery of news. Those reasons were exactly why a phone call was a bad idea. Amelia had deemed it a 'cop out', 'cowardly', 'weak', and 'cheap.' Talking in-person was better. Besides, she would have to deal with this stuff sooner or later, and sooner was better than later. She didn't want to procrastinate talking with a friend.
Her emotional state was a fine bouquet. Emotions went together, complimenting each other with their scents and intensity. Some contrasted, but they made the contrast work. There was strength and defiance. Those complimented. Contrariness worked with defiance, too. There was sadness and regret. They conflicted with the first few. The first few were okay with that. Little bits of anger dotted the bouquet here or there. Altogether, it worked. And it made Amelia's stomach turn as she walked to the library, through the halls. She was certain Kealey was going to feel it from a mile away. That contributed to the sadness and anger, too. She wasn't embarrassed, more like frustrated. Angry that Kealey would have to feel something so mixed and mingled because of some stupid kid.
As she entered the library, her eyes passed over the bookcases, counters, and tables. She looked for her librarian. She found her at the main desk.

Ami figured that Kealey would be able to feel her emotions from a mile away...and Ami was right.
To be completely honest, the blond had almost been hoping that whoever was feeling that jumble of emotions would walk into the library. Kealey had wanted to know what that ball of conflicting and complimentary emotions looked like on a face, encased in flesh and simmering under the surface. There was something vaguely familiar about it all, like the after image of something she'd felt before, but simply couldn't bring back to mind.
She wasn't using the right words in her head, Kealey decided, but they were what came to mind when the blond let her mind wander. The library wasn't busy, so it wasn't hurting anything...until the doors opened and Kealey realized that the feelings were coming from a friend of hers.
Ami approached, and Kealey tilted her head. This was one of the times she felt a little uncomfortable in her skin and with her powers. When people felt this way, they didn't often want the world to know. Ami had come to the library though, knowing full-well what Kealey was capable of...that suggested that she did want someone to know.
Kealey didn't err on the side of caution. She wasn't very good at that.
"I'm not going to let me dumping Gawain because he chose to go to some other woman after a traumatic experience instead of me alter who I hang out with, or how I live my life. So you're just going to have to deal with me while I deal with myself during these trying times. Okay?"

Ah. That's where Kealey had felt those emotions before. The mistake she'd made in trying to place them had been that she'd looked outside of herself for the source.
Ami'd had a hard break up. Even if she hadn't been an empath, Kealey felt like she could have figured that fact out now. It was blatantly evident in the words, the defense, everything in her young friend.
The blond nodded.
"That's a good initial attitude. You've always been your own person Ami."
That didn't make these sorts of things any easier though...not at all. The details hadn't been all that evident from what Ami had said. She'd felt betrayed by something that had happened after a traumatic event. Was there really anything else to say? Only if Ami wanted.
"But you know I'm here. Need a job to do?"
It was a slow day, but Kealey was sure she could find something to keep a girl's mind occupied at a time like this.
"That," Amelia said. "Would be great, actually. Less thinking is good in this case. Also, make sure you get on his ass about underaged drinking, because as an X-man, he should know better. It isn't a good example to set."
As she talked, she moved, slipping around the counter to the back, so she could check to see if anything needed checking in, or being shelved.

A blond eyebrow rose as Ami spoke, Kealey hadn't known that Gawain was a drinker. At his age, it really was a little morally reprehensible. He was also a team leader, and the empathy didn't know if it was her place to bring something like that up. Filing the information away in the little place she reserved for stuff to bring up at home, after work, Kealey continued to watch the younger woman as she moved around the desk. "I will take it under advisement. Did it have something to do with what happened?" Something to do....something to do.... There really wasn't a lot of shelving that needed doing, but...
"I've been putting off going through the computer records and finding books that have just turned twenty years old." Kealey said, swiveling in her chair to look at Ami.
"I don't usually keep those on the shelves. We put them in storage, and only get them out if people request them from the computer catalogue."
>>"I will take it under advisement. Did it have something to do with what happened?" Kealey asked.
Amelia 'mhm'd noncommittally, turning books over in her hands. Work, work, work. Shame there weren't all that many on the cart. Mainly Tolkien and Asimov.
Her eyes changed targets as Kealey suggested old books. She turned them up, to focus on the empath. "Oh yeah?" She said.
