The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Faye thanked and waved goodbye to Lance and Amber for showing her the way to the school. They were nice she reflected, far nicer then she would have been if the positions were switched around.
They didn’t have to show her the way to the school; they wanted to.
Maybe part of being a mutant was looking out for other mutants? It was an alien idea to her, her parents looked out for her when she was younger then her friends when she was in highschool.
Well not really her friends she realised, she had always been popular, but they hadn’t been friends really, that had been obvious after she had found out about her power. Faye knew now that they hadn’t been anti-mutant, No they’d hated her for abusing it. That had been worse somehow. It was the last straw in a series of putdowns and bullying of fellow students. Suddenly she was a queen without a court and to be honest that was harder then dealing with her new powers. So a lonely summer with no parties at the lake, an overnight train ride and a run in with a pair of mutants that had led her here, standing outside the admissions office at an all mutant school.
Faye watched Lance and Amber turn the corner before knocking on the door, no answer. Did that mean no-one was in? Well it was just after 6pm so maybe they were closed. Should she try to find someone?
She knocked again before opening the door, empty. Damn. The sound of voices coming closer reached her ears. How close? It was difficult to tell as she was unfamiliar with the layout of the school but they seemed to be getting closer. Mind made up and not wanting to be caught loitering in the corridors, that would be so not cash, Faye ducked into the office dragging her suitcase behind her and shutting the door behind her.
The office was dark, lit only by the desk lamp and the light spilling from the computer monitor on the desk. A pair of chairs sat either side of the desk strewn with paperwork and Faye sat down in the one clearly meant for the more transient occupants of this space as she prepared to wait, taking her transfer papers and letter from her old principil out of her purse and smothing out the creases.
After five minutes Faye propped her trainers up on the desk and started flicking through some of the paperwork in front of her, nothing major it seemed; just the odd write up of a student’s mishap or class rosters for the new term.
It wasn’t for another ten minutes till she wandered around the other side of the desk and sat in the big chair and tried the PC. Damn, password protected. She tried a couple of words; Password, Xavier, Mutant. Nothing Zilch Nada. At least this chair can spin she thought, pushing herself off from the desk so the chair spun around fast enough to make her blonde hair spill out of her red hoodie before dragging her feet on the carpet and letting the chair take a lazy rotation around.
Computer – filing cabinet – book self – picture – pot plant – desk – computer.
Wait, Picture? Pushing herself off again from the desk for another spin she grabbed the picture as it went past. Hmmm, Interesting. Who where the people in the picture? They seemed happy at least.
She caught footsteps approaching the door and jumped off the spinning chair, popping the picture back before rushing back to ‘her’ non-spinning chair.
No no no, Faye thought; adding in some choice swearwords as she realised she’d left the big chair spinning.
No chance to fix it now, Maybe they wouldn’t notice?
Greeting new people. It's supposed to be good for you. Also, it's supposed to be good for them too. Which makes the whole deal a lot less fun.
Maya could see Amber, a guy she didn't know, and a blonde she also didn't know (but she was more interested in than the guy, who walked away with Amber anyway), walk into the school. And since she had nothing better to do (I mean, nothing better, not nothing at all), she decided to take a closer look. By the time she got down to the door, the blonde had disappeared. She probably went up to the offices to sign in. The office corridor was also empty. Maya grinned.
"And here I was thinkin' I'm the only one sneakin' around here" she noted from the mirror as she looked at the girl, and the empty spinning chair "Have you found the booze yet?"

It was after six and he still had paperwork till fill out, not only that but he volunteered to help Tricity with the sorting of her paperwork, he frowned slightly and sighed well it was for a good cause, get in with the boss and then ask for some time off, vacation maybe? Somewhere warm… a beach maybe? Somewhere with women in bikinis… yeah, that sounded nice. A smile came over Sam’s face as he walked back to his office with a root beer in hand, not very adult but this place was a school and the last thing he wanted anyone to know was he had beer in his fridge back in his room.
If some students found out no doubt he’d have another run in with one or two of them, the last thing he wanted was to scold Maya/Gawain, cause sure enough s/he was the only one with the stones to try and steal from him again, though the more he thought about it other than a stern talking to and a permanent spot in his class/ private lesson roster s/he got off kind of easy… maybe he needed to rectify that with some intense training, Survival maybe?
Sam’s smile widened more as he opened up the door to his office and spotted two people who he didn’t leave in there before one was familiar the other wasn’t. ”Maya, just thinking about you!” he said with a smirk as he walked over to his desk and sat in his respectable chair, ”Hope you don’t have plans tonight, was thinking some midnight training might be a good idea tonight!” it wasn’t a request, he was telling her what was going down.
”You must be new? I haven’t seen you before and from the looks of it your looking for a place to stay, am I right?” Sam asked rhetorically as he nodded to her suitcase then to Maya, ”You know her Maya?”
Faye was pretty sure someone had spoken in the empty office and she was also pretty sure, like 98% sure, that she’d not imagined it. She was also certain that it wasn’t her conscience as she didn’t believe in consciences. It was like Valentines Day or Christmas, something people invented to make you act in a certain way.
The voice had also said something about untended alchohol being present in the room which raised the stakes considerably.
Faye reasoned that left three options:
1) Not-cute boy had knocked something loose when he bumped into her and she was imagining it
2) Someone was hiding in here and therefore had been spying on her which was tre rude
3) Ghosts, that wanted her to have free alcohol.
Much as she wished it was numro three Faye doubted that ghosts were trying to push drink on her. All she had got from Lance was grazed palms and blushing, his not hers.
So someone was spying on her. Spying was, like many things; wrong but fun. It was kinda pointless, she could hear a pin drop or eavesdrop on a conversation from across a parking lot. Faye knew that there was someone in here, she could hear them breathing.
Hmmm, it sounded like it was coming from in front of her. She stretched and lent to tie her laces, sneaking a peek under the desk as she did so. Nada. Pouting she straightened up and as she did so she caught the brunette girls reflection in the mirror behind the desk. She was right behind Faye, clever girl.
She twisted in her seat; a victorious Gotcha! catching in her throat as the space behind her was revealed to be empty air. Maybe she’s invisible, but she still has a reflection? Reverse Vampire!
Faye shot her hand out to where she thought the invisible girl was standing meeting only the zero resistance that thin air can grant human touch.
“All right, What effing gives?!” she cried out, turning back to look at the svelte short haired girl in the mirror. “I can’t see you except in a mirror? What are you? How long have you been there and where’s this free alcohol you talk about?”
Before she could have her answers, and free booze, a man walked into the office. A man with an eye patch and cool hair. He sat in the big chair like he owned it said something to the girl in the mirror about midnight training, what was that some kind of euphemism?
Faye was beginning to think that waiting out in the hallway would have been the better choice. Were where all the teachers? Did they disappear after last bell to be replaced with young adults that stalked their now vacant offices armed with slickness and euphemisms? What the hell was going on?
Questions bubbled in her mind but a Faye prepared to ask them Eye-patch spoke first:
>>>>”You must be new? I haven’t seen you before and from the looks of it your looking for a place to stay, am I right? and glancing at the brunette “You know her Maya?”
Hmmm reverse vampire girls name was Maya, wasn’t that like an Aztec or something? Save it for later, first use the opportunity that you’ve been given here girl!
“Yeah I'm meant to be coming here” Faye said flashing a grin and waving waving her transfer papers “but before a teacher gets here lets find this booze that reverse vampire girl was talking about. We can hide it in my case so they’ll never know. You check the desk drawers and I’ll look in the filing cabinet”
It was the perfect crime and nothing was going to stop ‘em…
>>“All right, What effing gives?! I can’t see you except in a mirror? What are you? How long have you been there and where’s this free alcohol you talk about?”
Maya grinned and watched the girl flail around, trying to figure out where she was.
"Y'know, for someone who just walked into a mutant school, you're kinda slow." she chuckled, folding her arms. Some people were like that. They knew there were mutants capable of creating fire and ice, making the earth shake and shooting lazers our of their, um, hands, and still, these people were amazed when they say someone walk out of a mirror. No kidding.
"As for the alcohol..."
>>”Maya, just thinking about you! Hope you don’t have plans tonight, was thinking some midnight training might be a good idea tonight!”
Maya's grin faded. The cat came home.
"Midnight?" she asked with a frown "You want me to..."
Shift during the training?! Sam, come on! Blah blah blah.
>>”You know her Maya?”
Maya shook her head and turned to look at the blonde once again. That's right, who the hell was she?
>>“But before a teacher gets here lets find this booze that reverse vampire girl was talking about. We can hide it in my case so they’ll never know. You check the desk drawers and I’ll look in the filing cabinet”
Maya snorted and bit back a grin, then walked out of the mirror, landing on her feet behind Sam's chair. She looked at the blonde girl. She looked pretty excited about booze. That was always a plus. Not recognizing a boss when you see him: that's your plus lost...

Sam blinked with his one eye and looked at the picture on his desk that was slightly out of place, it was a picture from the barbeque from last summer, the one where Luke, Alex, Mark, and a half dozen other people that weren’t at the mansion anymore, it was odd as much as he considered this place home and everyone in it his family, he never really put that much thought into where everyone went when they jus vanished into thin air. He mentally shrugged and looked back from the picture to the computer then to Maya who looked like she was ready to bust out laughing.
He blinked again moving the picture a few inches where he was used to seeing it and then looked to the young woman in front of him who was adamant on finding the booze Maya was apparently talking about. He looked to Maya ”booze reverse vampire girl is talking about?” his eye narrowed on her, ”Yep, defiantly going to make your session tonight interesting now…” he paused for a second then looked back to the girl who waved the transfer wavers about and shook his head slightly. ”I kind of want to see if she can piece it together….” he said to Maya.
Maya did just say his name and seeing, as he was in the front of the picture in a goofy pose in the front of the group and his nameplate was looking at the woman in front of him he folded his arms and sat back in his chair with a smirk on his face. Was it too soon to give her a detention? Maybe but Maya did seem a bit lonely being one of the few in detntion then again from what he understood there was a young winged mutant who was making quite a name for himself getting a few weeks of detention on the first day… maybe Miss Taylor might want to have a talk with him…
His thoughts came back to the present as he looked to the girl then back to Maya, ”Why don’t you grab a seat?” ideally one that wasn’t his and one that was across him next to the girl maybe, just maybe this would make things easier for her to piece together.
So pirate guy was called Sam, heh’ same name as the plaque on the desk, weird, but he and Maya seemed to know where the teacher hid his booze and where willing to share that location with her. This was great! She was making friends on the first day, hell she wasn’t even enrolled yet. It was so damn clutch. Sam said something creepy crawlin’ to Maya about making her ‘midnight session’ more interesting and then something about Faye ‘figuring it out herself’ as he repositioned the picture that she had been looking at, hadn’t he been in that? Yeah doing some ironic clown shoes pose at the front. That was cool.
Right so he wanted Faye to prove herself by finding the alcohol, that was cool she could manage that. It was probably in the desk drawers or in the filing cabinet. Maybe in a hollowed out book but the teacher probably wasn’t a bond villain so that was the last place she would look. Wait did that mean she should look there first?
As Faye looked around for booze shaped hiding places she caught Sam sitting back into the big chair and smiling, Faye knew she was going to have to find this alcohol quick or risk being branded lame which let’s be frank was a death sentence to her credibility. If the cool kids broke into offices and repropriated things then she was going to do that too till she fitted in, then she could twist what they all did later.
>>>“Why don’t you grab a seat?”
What? She was sitting already? Was he talking to Maya? Why was she going to sit down? Wait….
Oh. My. God.
The picture, Maya’s attitude shift since he had entered, the plaque on the desk. Three things when added up said only one thing: Sam, Pirate Sam, was the teacher whose booze they were trying to steal.
A couple of emotions flitted across Faye’s face as she sought away out.
Crying? No, he didn’t look the type to fall for it.
Blame Maya and stack the evidence against her using her mutation? Could work, but she had implicated herself and screwing over a potential friend wasn’t the brightest idea.
Say sorry? Admiting you were wrong was a bad plan. That meant you got into trouble for sure.
All that left was, yes that might work. It wouldn’t force it all on Maya and might throw the teacher off enough for Maya to get involved. Yeah lets do that….
Faye checked out the name on the plaque, Sam Johnson, ok time to utilise plan ‘talk loads and make ‘em forget why they are annoyed at you’. Plan engaged:
Mr Johnson, Faye began making sure she looked him directly in the eyes eye, I have here my transfer papers and a letter from my old principle, which must be noted that despite knowing it casts me in a negative light due to my mutation I have delivered it to you as I was instructed. Breath. Furthermore my test results are in the top percentile, I was a star member of the school swim team if you have such an organisation present in your school and I require that I be housed in a private room due to my mutations sensitive nature. Breath. I also wish to say that the students that I have met today, chiefly Amber, Lance and Maya here, turn and touch on shoulder to establish contact have been amazing at making me feel welcome and they are a credit to this school and the stewardship that yourself and the other faculty members clearly provide. Breath and wrap it up. It’s unfortunate that I am tired from my journey otherwise I would be thrilled to spend time with a tour of the majestic looking grounds and the many other facilities that this grand building must contain within its wonderful architecture.
Faye smiled, scratch one for the students?
So damn clutch = When you receive what you need when you need it. Creepy crawlin = hitting on a girl younger than yourself. Clown shoes = fail, something stupid.
>>”booze reverse vampire girl is talking about? Yep, defiantly going to make your session tonight interesting now…”
Maya's face fell. "Come on, Sam! That ain't fair. I haven't even drunk in, like, days...." There was no use. If Sam said her midnight shift would suck, it would happen so. As much as she enjoyed training sessions and was good at it too, he could still make her feel like she'd just been run over by a horde of evil robots. Anytime.
>>”I kind of want to see if she can piece it together….”
"Sure." she smirked. She might be the victim later, but right now, Faye was in a much worse position. Let's see how fast she catches on.
She did. Catch on. And she did her best to talk herself out of it. Oh boy. Did that girl not need to breathe?! Was that her mutation? Also. Nice speech. Maya smirked as she sat on the edge of Sam's desk, folding her arms and listening to Faye. She was darn good, she had to give her that.
"Yup, I think she pieced it together." she chuckled, glancing at Sam, then turned back to Faye "Welcome aboard. My name is Maya, and as you've seen, I'm a mirrorwalker." she said as she leaned back to take a peek at the papers she presented. Maybe they would tell them more about who or what she was, and where she came from.
"I think she said she needs a single room" she added with a smirk.

Maya sat on his desk, not exactly what he meant by have a seat but it still got the message across to the young woman who attempted to reintroduce herself as someone who followed the rules and did as she was told like a god little girl, even if she started with this when they first met it wouldn’t have worked. He had seen all kinds of kids come in and the fact that she seemed like a typical teen didn’t help her much. Sam smiled as he took the waver she waved about and placed in front of him then looked to Maya.
”She did say that didn’t she?” Sam said hatching an idea as the meeting was progressing, ”Maya I think it’s time we get your feet wet with some of the formalities that come along with greetings such as this.” he lifted a pen and handed it to her and then the information that both Maya and the woman whose name he looked up on the flyer, ”Miss Roberts?” he said as he looked at her with his one eye and smiled. The information needed to be filled out by both but Maya could handle the name and mutation part.
”Make sure it’s the neat way you right and not the manly way.” Sam said making a joke at Maya’s other half. He looked to the woman and nodded his head, ”Right well as far as a swim team, we don’t have one but we have a pool and a class for swimming and club activities are always going on so I’m sure you could find something out there but as far as you going to your room right away I’m afraid we need some information first.”
He smiled and gestured to Maya, ”She will be taking down all the information you present us with and everything else needs to filled out on your own time.” he reached into his desk drawer and rummaged through it and removed a key and slid it across his desk, ”Girl’s hallway, single room it is.” he paused and looked to the woman and smiled, ”Now I’ll have to ask you about the nature of your mutations and anything else we should know about you.”
Wow, I can’t believe that had worked thought Faye. Sam, Mr Johnson, she corrected hadn’t even shouted at her and Maya the Mirror walker had emerged unscathed as well. Nice work Girl, Nice work indeed.
>>>”Now I’ll have to ask you about the nature of your mutations and anything else we should know about you.”
They wanted to play twenty question? Fine, Faye supposed they had the right to know who she was.
“k’ lets see; I’m a 17 year old Scorpio from Wisconsin. Mutation wise I can hear good, like real good and I remember what people say. Everything they say and I can repeat it back like one of those old timey Dictaphones which is cool because you can find out peoples secrets.”
She paused to let Maya take it all down while she reached out and took the key Mr Johnson offered.
“I have trouble sleeping hence these” pulling her head phones out of her bag “and I get headaches from loud sudden noises like fireworks or sirens. Oh I also smoke, which I promise I won’t do inside the mansion, or at least I’ll open a window or something” she shrugged. Do you guys need to know anything else? I’m not really that tired, I kinda made that up. You should write that down”
>>”Maya I think it’s time we get your feet wet with some of the formalities that come along with greetings such as this. Make sure it’s the neat way you right and not the manly way.”
Maya's eyes lit up as Sam handed her the papers. Doing official office work for the school? That was kinda awesome. It looked like a year of hard work finally earned her forgiveness for her earlier sins. She grinned at Sam, and made sure to write with neat letters. Her writing didn't really look any different on Gawain days, but she could do neat if she had to.
Faye Roberts, 17 year old, Scorpio (they didn't really have a question for that, but whatever, she put that down too; she just hoped she was not the kind of scorpio as the blonde woman in the brawl...). Wisconsin. Oh. Maya smirked to herself as she wrote that down and made a (mental) note to introduce her to Twyla at some point.
>>“Mutation wise I can hear good, like real good and I remember what people say. Everything they say and I can repeat it back like one of those old timey Dictaphones which is cool because you can find out peoples secrets.”
Wow. What a neat ability. Maya glanced up from the paperwork and smirked at Faye. She could fake reflections, Faye could fake voices. There had to be a whole world of opportunities in there. Also, it explained why she needed a single room. A roommate that snored, for example, would have been a real pain for her...
>>"Do you guys need to know anything else? I’m not really that tired, I kinda made that up. You should write that down”
"... makes things up." Maya muttered as she wrote it down, biting back a grin. The girl did have spirit. She liked that. "And now we know who we'll have to blame for prank calls."

Sam’s eye roved from one girl to the next and when they both finished a but he waited a moment and looked again from Maya to Faye, ”So your not tired?” he raised an eyebrow and smirked, ”Good, I think you might need to get to know Maya a bit better then, meaning tonight you will be joining us for our little midnight session.” Sam said as he looked over the principal’s note in his hand then looked back to Maya, ”And Maya here will be the first one to tell you we don’t allow underage drinking in the mansion or on the grounds.” he paused for a second and looked at her, ”Isn’t that right?”
He paused for a second and looked to Faye and his eyebrow rose slightly making him seem far less strict than he needed to be when he was running things. ”Secrets?” he sighed slightly and scratched the back of his head, ”I’m afraid you might fit in her quicker than most…” rumors were something that Sam was well aware of seeing as a majority of the rumors often ended coming back to him one way or another.
”Smoking, however will not be permitted inside the mansion!” his eyebrow lowered slightly as he fixed his eye on her, ”Understand?” he said in a rhetorical manner so she didn’t get confused and attempt to answer. ”Also, we will be more than happy to sound proof your room if loud noises will be a problem, I’ll be the first to admit that a ruckus is common here.”
Faye listened as Mr Johnson laid down the law, nodding along. No alcohol on school grounds and no smoking inside, Ok that was fine rules wise. She was sure that there would be more but she could pick them up as she went along.
In the end school rules where easy, it was the delicate rules of social cliques that were harder to understand: Don’t go there, Talk to certain people, which teachers to make an effort for and which ones not to (She’d already decided Mr Johnson fell into the former) and most important of all; what to wear. Nothing defined perceived social ranking then dressing the part, it would make it easier to attract the interest of the groups she’d want to become part of.
Mr Johnson seemed to think that she and Maya should spend a little more time together, that was cool with Faye as she liked the little looks of mischief that came over Maya’s face when she thought no-one was watching. The fact it should be tonight in one of their ‘special midnight sessions’ seemed, well just a little icky, Faye was pretty sure that Maya and Mr J weren’t breaking any student-teacher trust in a creepy way but they did seemed a little closer then you cookie cutter student-teacher relationship.
Screw it, just ask. It’ll not be what you think and you can all laugh about it. But what if she was right? Then have many many years of counselling to remove that mental image your about to have. What? Ack! Damn it brain.
“Mr Johnson, these sessions between you and Maya sound…. Intriguing but I’d like to know what they are about as they seem well, y’know, a bit couplely” Faye added a glance between him and Maya for emphasis.
>> ”Good, I think you might need to get to know Maya a bit better then, meaning tonight you will be joining us for our little midnight session. And Maya here will be the first one to tell you we don’t allow underage drinking in the mansion or on the grounds. Isn’t that right?”
The mirrorwalker grinned and nodded, looking a little bit more enthusiastic than she should have been.
"Aye aye, Capt'n."
You can never overdo the good girl image.
>>“Mr Johnson, these sessions between you and Maya sound…. Intriguing but I’d like to know what they are about as they seem well, y’know, a bit couplely”
The good girl fell off the desk.
She just winced from surprise and the mental image of her and Sam that was bound to give her some nightmares whenever she gets some sleep; and since she was only half sitting on the edge of the desk, she slipped, and fell with a yelp.
"Holy sh*t, girl." she muttered, picking herself and the papers up, glaring at Faye "That's just wrong, on so many levels. Ew." she glanced at the boss "No offense, Sam. I jus' don't swing that way."
Sitting back (more carefully this time) onto the desk, she arranged the papers once again.
"So. She's gonna come with us to the DR, or what?"

Sam blinked when Faye’s question was thrown out there and Maya reacted like she did falling over and then apologizing for not swinging that way. He looked from Maya to Faye and shook his head and placed his hand on his forehead making it look like he was trying to stifle an oncoming headache, no doubt a sign of things to come. He sighed and shook his head while his hand was still on the bridge of his nose. ”Quite Maya,” he shook his head and removed his hand from his face and looked to Faye.
”Don’t think it could be possible to make that any more wrong…” maybe if it was Gawain instead of Maya? Sam shook his head again and focused on Faye, ”No, it’s not like hat at all, you see I keep Maya out of trouble, and a few of the other students with my sessions.” he made sure not to elaborate on the sessions in question but left it open to interpretation other than what Faye had guessed from before.
”She will be coming…” Sam said looking from Maya to Faye letting both know it wasn’t a request, ”for several reasons but trying not only to look for alcohol in my office but then try to change the subject by playing it off…” he looked to Faye and nodded his head over to Maya, ”I’m not one that can be fooled easily, go ahead and ask Maya.”
