The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Chris was sitting on a bench in front of the Danger Room doors. They were made of massive steel, and he could vaguely see his own reflection in them. He briefly wondered how much force it would take to break into the giant simulator - or out. He was dressed in a black t-shirt and dark grey shorts that went down to his knees. Not the most exciting uniform, but he wasn't in for the most exciting training session either. Even though he had never been in the Danger Room himself he had heard about how it worked - the room was perfectly capable of simulating thick jungles, dramatic battle scenes and perhaps even the cold darkness of space itself. He and the other two mutants had decided to start out with something a bit more mundane - a gym.
It had been his idea. Years and years of hunting through the Wisconsin forests had meant he had been in excellent shape when he came to New York - perhaps not so strong, but at least quick and agile. But here the luxuries of grocery stores had meant that he didn't had to provide for his own food, and since he spent most of his days sitting behind a counter selling pet fish... well, he wasn't in top condition any more.
He didn't know the other two's motivation, but he thought he could at least guess why Alex was coming. The memory of when they had ran away from those four thugs like frightened little boys last year still lingered. He hadn't really had the chance to hang out with Alex since then, what with all that was going on with his job and the move and everything. He wasn't as sure about the French kid - what was his name again? Justin? Jude? He couldn't remember seeing him at the Mansion before, but that wasn't so surprising since Chris mostly had stayed at his room.
He was technically not a Mansion resident any more, since he had moved to a small apartment three weeks ago. But he still dropped by now and then, and since Alex and (presumably) the kid lived here it didn't feel as if he was going to intrude. Besides, this was his only chance. He would rather die of un-fitness than to go to a regular gym. And even if he had wanted to, he doubted he would be welcome anywhere. Not specifically because he was a mutant, but because when other people left a trail of sweat on the gym equipments he left slime. And that's why he had brought a bucket with water and a cloth with him. It was almost 03 pm, and that meant that the other two, and Tetsuya Shinbo who had promised to open up for them and do the programming, should be there soon.

Right on time, Shin arrived at the Danger Room.
One of the interesting parts of the job of being an X-man was letting people into the Danger Room. Students usually required X-man permission to be let in. It had to do with the fact that the Danger Room was not the Room of safeness, or the Room of Requirement. Sure, it could change into a big room full of books and things on a whim, but that did not mean it was everything one could possibly need. It would stand up to a raging flame just as well as any other room would. Maybe. Or at least, its occupants would, even if it managed to deal with the hardcore damage people could dish out.
"Hey, Chris." Shin waved. He approached the young mutant, wearing blue jeans and a long-sleeved white t-shirt. "Are your friends here yet?" He glanced around. Sure didn't look it.
Up on the top bunk of Johnny's bed, there were four boys all huddled around their hands of miniature playing cards. A pile of various bits, bob, odds and ends heaped in the middle passing for the pot. Each boy guarded his own pile next to him, but the piles were all low. Pretzels, foreign coins, pictures, rings, barrettes, a shoe... the pot was getting serious. It was time for someone to call the bluff.
"You are just saying zat so I must forfeit."
"No man, it's like 3:15." The owner of the bunk looked at his wrist, but he didn't have a watch. Jude dug through the pile until he found the Mickey Mouse watch the kid had bet down earlier.
"Oh no!"
It was not 3:15, but it was past time to go. He grabbed his shirt and left shoe from the pot and was off the top bunk faster than you could say 'One Mississippi.' The boys snickered a the tiny Frenchman's hasty retreat and he shrugged off accusations of stealing from potential winnings. He had left the rest of his betting stock there. Let them scavenge.
He had to hop awkwardly to get his shoe back on and still keep moving forward. He trampled down the stairs and sliiiiiid through the kitchen and was pulling his shirt down over his head by the time he got to the door before the long metallic hallway. Very rarely had he ever come down here. Only a couple times for lessons.
Jude yanked the portal open. And skid out into the hall in untied sneakers, long and loose shorts and a tee shirt that hung off his skinny arms like a circus tent. "I'm here." He huffed, hands on knees and doubled over. "I'm not late." And by the sound of his breathing, he really needed this workout.
Staring at the clock on his bedside table he knew he was running a bit behind schedule. Why didn't he have anything to wear, at least anything that wouldn't make him look like a complete idiot for wearing last year’s training fashion. "I need to buy something new for next time" He said staring at his now semi worn out jogging shoes on the floor. When he was contacted by Chris he was a bit surprised that he was asked if he wanted some exercise. They hadn't exactly hung out, ever if one counted the time they had their little road side accident, well more like near death experience. The thought of it made his head tire.
'damn' he thought to himself as he took on a pair of black shorts, looking in the mirror he couldn't help but to disapprove at the way his legs looked, he really needed more toning for them, and perhaps a tanning session would help. Back in Spain he was always usually much more tanned, not only by his more naturally tanned skin, but the by the sun that would shine brightly often, that made him even more tanned. Now he was even paler than before, not that he should complain, his 40 year old self would thank him for rescuing him from too many wrinkles.
He took out a black and red striped tank top and looked down at his arms. Didn’t exactly make his arms look very well. He made a mental note that his arms needed desperate muscle toning. Stripping off the tank top, he instead took on a plain white t-shirt with the words 'Alex Who?' painted on it. Of course the idea was derived from the t-shirt and bag idea of Karl Lagerfeld's 'Karl Who?,' but he doubted many other's would understand the meaning. Not that it mattered. He quickly slipped his feet into his shoes, grabbed a slender blue gym towel and headed for the Danger Room.
This would be his first time there, so he was anxious to what he'd expect. He'd heard stories about how almost anything could be spawned there, from exotic landscapes to a freezing North Pole. He however had his doubt that he'd experience anything like that his first time there. Chris had mentioned exercise, and he didn't know if that would mean a run in some far of savannah, a rainforest, or even more boring a plain old gym. Even so, perhaps it wouldn't be too bad, at least there wouldn't be too many people watching.
He finally reached the Danger Room, after first going the wrong way, and then ending up at some place he didn’t' even know what was there. It seemed like he was the last one there, at least if Chris's information on whom else would be joining in was correct. Chris was there of course, and a young boy he had seen around the mansion at a few occasions, not that he knew him, or even talked to him. Then he saw Shin, whom he knew of, he was the one who had greeted him when he first got to the school. "Hi guys, I'm so sorry I'm a bit late, didn't realize the time just flew by as fast as it did." He lied. A little white lie, there was no need to mention that he had difficulties figuring out what he was going to wear. "I'm Alexander, just by the way" He said extending his hand to the young boy, just being polite, it was their first proper meeting after all.
Chris looked up when he heard steps and saw that Shin was approaching. He stood up, half expecting an interrogation - so why exactly do you want to use the Danger Room? How long are you planning to use it? You do know that you'll need to be supervised during your entire stay in the room? but Shin just greeted him and asked if the others had arrived. "Hi," Chris answered and shook his head. "No, but they should be here any minute..."
The minute passed. And then another one. Chris was weighing uncomfortably from one foot to another - he wasn't good at small talk, but the silence was becoming sort of uncomfortable. "So..." he started. "How exactly does the room work?" Just as he had finished the sentence light, quick steps echoed down the hallway. The French kid came running toward them, his over-sized t-shirt billowing out behind him like a miniature sail. He halted in front of Shin and Chris, clearly out of breath. >>"I'm here," the kid said between the loud huffs. "I'm not late."
While the kid was catching his breath Chris looked up and saw Alex heading toward them, in a more composed manner than the kid had. >>"Hi guys, I'm so sorry I'm a bit late, didn't realize the time just flew by as fast as it did." "Hi Alex. Long time, no see." When Alex presented himself to the kid Chris realized that he hadn't greeted the kid properly - it hadn't been conscious, but as an adult it was easy to overlook younger kids and not pay them the same courtesies you would older people. So Chris offered his hand to the kid too. "And I'm Chris."

They made minutes longer these days. A minute Chris said, and more than a minute it took. In the lull in conversation, silence reigned.
Chris broke the silence with a question. Shin opened his mouth to reply, but was rescued from any need to answer. An eyebrow arched. A tiny French man arrived.
Shin remembered Jude. Ghost's adopted son. The boy had been at Aurum's birthday party, and he'd seen him around at Full Circle now and then. The kid looked a mess in his too-big shirt, hair askew, like he'd just pulled the shirt down over his head in a hurry. The fact that he was out of breath and doubling over confirmed the hurrying as fact. The tone and words he'd said were the final nails in his coffin.
Jude had nearly been late. He was out of breath. And he needed to work out. He needed to work out, of course, because he was out of breath. Who ran out of breath running places in a hurry, huh? Who?
Shin, as usual, was not judgmental, nor did he wag any fingers. Yet. It wasn't like the boy had blown up any walls or thrown tennis balls at teachers, yet.
Another boy materialized. It was Alexander. Shin recalled meeting him once before, and showing him around the mansion. He gave a small nod.
"So, now that we're all here." He noted, after introductions had concluded. Shin turned briskly and plugged in the code for the Danger Room on the panel by the door. The doors opened. He glanced over his shoulder, then continued on into the room. "Let's go."
The inside of the Danger Room was plain and boxy, with metallic surfaces in shades of 'blah' and 'concrete lame'. There was a wall panel by a door on one side of the room. Above the door, higher up in the room, was a glass window. It was dark in the room beyond the window. The lights were off.
Shin waited by the door to the upstairs room. As they all entered and had their look around, Shin opened his mouth for a blanket statement. "Any questions?"
He immediately followed up his statement with another. "Oh. I have one. What sort of training scenario can I set you up with today?" Shin donned the smile of a pizza guy trying to sell you a slice.
"Jude." He shook Alex's hand with a nice, firm grip. "Csendes." He shook Chris' hand's next... err a little confused by the webbing... and the four fingers... but, you know, that was cool too. He tried to rub his hand discretely on the back of his shorts so that Chris wouldn't see that his clammy, slimy hands had bothered Jude. He didn't want to be rude, but he didn't want to be slimy either.
Shin was always an odd duck. He was probably the only adult that Jude felt more grown up than. Half the stuff he said didn't make sense to Jude. Like now. Did Shin not know why they were there? Wasn't that like... the whole point he was there? "Ze regular work out room, please." At least Ghost had driven one fact through the tiny frenchman's brain: be polite.
“Yeah, it’s been a while.” Alexander said to Chris. It had been quite some time, enough to wonder why he was even asked to come along to the little work out session. With a tiny smile he looked curiously around the place. It was pretty bare, apparently minimalism was the preferred style of choice when it came to decorating the hallways, and not that he actually minded it much. It was a whole lot easier to keep the place neat and clean. When Jude went on to shake Chris’s hand, he couldn’t help but to notice how he shortly after rubbed his hand on the back of his shorts. Though he knew that Chris didn’t exactly have the driest hands in the universe, it wasn’t like it was too bad to actually touch him. Looking from Jude to Chris, he had hoped that all of it had gone completely unnoticed by him. The last thing he wanted was for Chris to feel bad about it.
Then when Shin asked for what training scenario he could set up for them, he began wondering. What could the place really do? He had heard stories from other on how it could basically create any sort of materials, and places, which made Jude’s answer quite disappointing. Just a regular workout room seemed like a rather dull thing for the room to create, though he had no doubt it was highly possible. Couldn’t they spice it up at least? Create a gym, only that it was a gym set at some exotic location, a rainforest or perhaps in the middle of the Forbidden City in China though it wasn’t as forbidden anymore.
“Yeah, I think just a regular workout room would work just fine” He seconded after Jude. “A workout room with like a nice view would be nice though.” Alexander added shortly thereafter before shifting his attention to Chris to hear what he had to say, which was likely to be the exact same thing that Jude mentioned.
Chris absentmindedly noticed that Jude wiped of his hand after the handshake, but he didn't really mind - at least the kid had shook it instead of just pretending that he hadn't seen it like some people did. Right now he was more interested in looking around in the big, grey room they had entered. The wall were a bit dull, but the size and shape of the room was really impressive. Most of all it looked like some kind of epmty hangar.
When Shin asked what kind of scenario they would like Jude and Alex answered first, so Chris just nodded in agreement. To start with something like a regular gym had seemed like the most sensible thing to do, so that was what he had applied for. He was glad that the other two were on the idea - especially Jude. He had half expected that a kid in Jude's age would want something with robots or dinosaurs or whatever kids these days liked in it, but this seemed to be a serious kid. When Alex added that it would be nice with a view Chris tried to think of something good, but he couldn't think of anything fitting. Imagination wasn't his strong side. And why would a gym need a view anyway? From what he had understand they often had dull, bland walls. And mirrors. Chris shrugged. "I guess a view wouldn't hurt...if it's no trouble, Shin?"

>>"Ze regular work out room, please."
Regular, huh? Well, that wasn't very much fun. He'd have to do a little extra, just for Jude. And for Alexander. And Chris. Who wanted a view.
"A room with a view? That, I can do." Shin stated. "It'll just take a second."
Shin left the group to their own conversations as he unlocked the door and went up to the room overlooking the Danger Room. He started working on setting up the simulation. It didn't take long. Once he was finished, he commanded the room to start.
The walls around the Danger Room changed, becoming a calming white divided in parts by panes of glass. Behind the glass, fish of all types and colors drifted. All around the room, exercise equipment and machines appeared. To finish things off, a giant blue Blastoise drawing appeared on the floor in the center of the room, in all its giant blue turtle glory.
Shin leaned forward and spoke to them through the intercom. "You can start when you're ready. I'll be up here overseeing things. Let me know when you want to go."
The Asian closed the communication channel, stepping back from the computer terminal. He pulled up a chair, and grabbed a small book off a table in the room. He sat down in the chair and cracked the book open. He began to read.
The walls melted from boring gray into glass, blue glass. No, wait... "Is that a sea turtle?" Jude scampered to the window as a school of exotic blue angelfish darted past. Aquarium! They were in a big aquarium... gym... thing.
Jude scrubbed his nose print off the glass with the hem of his overlarge shirt and tried to not look as impressed as he felt. The gym equipment all seemed to be in order... and larger than he remembered it.
"If you need a spotter, let me know." As if his puny arms would be any sort of safeguard against weight, he offered them to the other boys.
There was a bar thing at the top of a black metal unit that looked like it needed to be pulled down. Jude thought some arms would be a good place to start his workout. He needed to be able to lift more weight so his arms needed strength. The frenchman went to fiddle with the back where the weight plates were. 50 pounds? 75? How much could he really handle?
He popped the key lock into what he thought was the 80 slot and darted around to the padded side of the pull down. He had to stand on the bench to reach the bar and when he did he puuuuuuuuuuulled.
Instead of the bar coming down to him, he went up.
The room they were standing in suddenly began changing as Shin had done some work in the control room. As the room changed he couldn’t help but not blink. Never in his life had he seen anything like it. In front of him now stood what seemed like all the gym equipment in the world, there seemed to be equipment for everything. With curious eyed the room carefully. When he had asked for a view it wasn’t exactly the thing he had in mind. It was as if he was standing in the middle of an aquarium and the world was looking at them as the fishes. It was simply amazing to watch and then whispering to himself "wow"
Smiling carefully he watches as Jude practically ran over to the glass. Young curiosity at its best, though if he hadn’t kept calm he himself would have been the one rushing to the glass to see any sort of aquatic beings. Instead he calmly walked to what appeared to be one big statue based on a cartoon figure from a show he had watched countless times as a child, as well as his late teenage years. A large Blastoise statue was there, just in front of him, what purpose it served to the whole decoration of the not so normal exercise room was beyond him, he didn’t complain however just the thought that it looked like he was standing in a room that could have been on the bottom of the sea would have sufficed. >> "If you need a spotter, let me know." Jude said out, almost sounding a bit confident in his abilities.
Even though he wanted to chuckle, he kept it silent. He doubted that the boy would be of any use as a spotter as he looked as though he could barely lift a school bag. Keeping silent he nodded reassuringly to Jude before feasting his eyes on a pair of high bars. Next to it was a mat, perfect for some warming up. Before starting he looked over at Jude who was now trying to pull down the bar he was holding, without much luck. Alexander skittered over to him and saw that he was trying to lift way more than someone of his stature could manage. “How about you start with a lower weight?” he suggested. “You shouldn’t push yourself too hard in the beginning, start small and work your way up, that way your body get a chance to adapt more and it will feel easier, if you take on too much you’ll tire much faster and it will all be for nothing.” Rapidly he ventured to change the weight. “How about you start at 20 poun.. no, I think you should start with 10 for the first minutes and then you can gradually add on, you’d want to warm up first so going very slow is a good thing.” Giving a reassuring smile he got on his way and walked over to Chris.
“So what are your plans then? Do you want to do some warming up with me, and then you can jog or lift weights or whatever, I think I’ll do some work on the high bars at first, I haven’t in such a long time now, I hope I’m not too stiff by now.” With that he tried bending his back which made a loud cracking sound. He sighed, a crack wasn’t really a good thing, and he needed to get back in the game before his flexibility would disappear. It was however now that it struck him that Shin was actually in the control room, did he mention something about overseeing things? Did that mean that he would be watching them? Somehow that didn’t feel very nice it was enough having the other two watching him in a oxygen battle, but at least they would be in the same boat, not sitting watching them. Alexander imagined Shin sitting in a comfy chair with a bag of crisps and being slightly amused.
The aquarium interior was not what he had expected, and watching the training equipment appear out of nowhere surrounded by the clean blue water and different aquatic lifeforms felt a bit surreal. Jude and Alex seemed to be impressed with the new surroundings - Jude actually ran up to one of the glass panes, not being able to contain his excitement. Chris often saw kids have the same reaction at the Tropic Aqua Lagoon. Most of the visitors were kids, and most of them only came to look at the different kinds of fish. Chris was impressed too, and he could be pretty hard to impress. The fish looked so lifelike, and there was a great variety - he even saw a squid, a couple of sea turtles and a jellyfish. And the training equipment... He walked up to a stationary bicycle and carefully stroke his finger along the handlebars. They felt totally real, they even had a sort of plastic texture. The only thing that was a bit off about them was that they all were in perfect condition, not a scratch or spot anywhere.
Jude apparently had decided that "starting out slow" was for losers - Chris watched as the kid sort of lifted himself instead of the weights. Alex walked over and gave him some advices and then went over to Chris. Chris nodded when Alex asked if they should warm up a bit. "Yeah, sure. Sounds good to me." Actually, he wasn't really sure what to do. This was his first time at a gym so he only had a vague idea of what you did when you warmed up. It had been one of the reasons he had asked Alex to join him - the other mutant probably knew his way around a gym (at least more than Chris) and could do some explaining, but wasn't so buff so it would eb a blow to the self-conscience to train with him. "So... what's the best way to warm up? Push-ups?"
"I… yeah. Zank you." Jude, for once, thought better of telling someone else that he was used to a lot more weight in the future. He was finally starting to see that the future didn't matter. What mattered was the here and now. "Ten pound is a much more realistic goal."
Besides if he could only lift 10 now, then his eventual goal would be to lift 20. 20 pounds was nothing. He would be un-grounded in no time. Sebastian was such a sucker.
Jude stood on the bench again and watched the other boys stretch. He hadn't stretched. Sheepishly, the boy hopped down and emulated his peers. He pulled his left arm over to his right side and then the same but opposite. He pulled one foot up to his butt and then the next. He even emulated a runner and windmilled his arms… yep. That stretching business was good stuff.
Now back to the heavy weight lifting to get the muscles that girls loved so much on grown men.
He stepped back up onto the bench and reached the bar and pulled. This time, he wasn't doing a pull up. The bar glided down easily. Too easily. He went back to the weight plates and changed his weight pull to 20 pounds. Which was a little harder than he could easily manage… but there wasn't a 15. Begrudgingly he went back to 10.
