The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The room was dark. There was nary a sign of light, save the thin beam centered on Shin from the God Room above. On his brow, sweat glistened. His eyes were closed, brow tensed and focused with determination. He held a sword in front of him, scabbard at his side at the ready. In the dark, forms shifted. They were dark and foreboding, but every now and again, they caught the light as they passed. Solid flashes swept past him, streaks of motion, blurred silver. A massive scythe. A danger. He brought up his sword to block it, moved it the dark, and bashed it back. The scythe swung away. Shin brought up his sheathe behind his right shoulder, just in time to get another one. The sword wheeled around to clash with the scythe pendulum, forcing it away from the scabbard on his shoulder. He swung his sword and sheathe horizontally in the air before him, and paused. His eyes snapped up to the God Room.
"Simulation, Off." That was all ridiculously silly, recreating Kouga's training from GARO like that... in the show, those giant scythes were harder than diamonds. In this scenario? Nope. He was just playing pretend and practicing holding his shard sword and shard sheathe. IT WAS FUN TO PRETEND, THOUGH!
The lights came on. The scythes shrank back into the shadows, and disappeared. Shin held his sword up in front of himself and looked at his reflection. He was looking pretty good in that white coat there, wasn't he? Yes, yes, he was.
Someone was hogging the Danger Room again. Since the weather got too cold for Mirror to practice his archery outside on the Mansion grounds, he got into the habit of going to the Danger Room. It was warmer there, and also, a lot more to shoot at than practice targets and the occasional wandering Mansion student. More fun.
But today when he got down to the DR, the door was locked. Ongoing simulation, and all that. Someone was in there, and since Gawain had nothing better to do at the moment, he decided to take a look. Walking back to the closest mirror, it only took him a few minutes to appear in the God Room. That place was always full of reflective surfaces.
Looking down at the training area, he saw Shin in an awesome white coat and a sword. Actually, he was kinda admiring himself in the blade. Mirror frowned; too bad the blade was not wide enough for him. That would have been fun.
Pressing the button of the communicator, Gawain grinned as he listened to his own voice echo around the danger room.
"Hey there, Shin. Nice outfit. Is that part of our new uniform, or is it just you?"

The sword wobbled as someone surprised him. Shin didn't jump, but his concentration was! His eyes shot up to the God Room. He did not know the voice. Someone he did not know had snuck past him in the dark, through swinging scythes to reach the God Room. That was mildly disturbing. Also, he was commenting on how awesome Shin looked. That wasn't disturbing. That was just common practice.
"It is," Shin replied, composing himself. The sword stopped jiggling like it was made of rubber. He whipped it through the air in front of him in a smooth Z once, and sheathed it by his hip (even if the sheathe and sword were both in his mind). "My girlfriend made it. May I ask who it is that snuck through the Danger Room without my noticing it, to hop up into the God Room? You certainly weren't there before." And he knew his name. Strange.
>>"It is. My girlfriend made it. May I ask who it is that snuck through the Danger Room without my noticing it, to hop up into the God Room? You certainly weren't there before."
Gawain grinned. That's right. Shin knew Maya; he didn't know him. It happened a lot, and people got confused, and he had to explain over and over again. Some of them noticed how similar Maya was to Gawain; some of them guessed twins, and some of them guessed gender shifting right away.
"Fancy you not knowin'. I'm part of the team." he chuckled, looking down at him from the God Room. He wondered how fast the shard manipulator would catch on. He also wondered why the X-men didn't train together more often. It was fun.
"My name's Gawain. Make me a shard mirror Shinbo, and I'll be right down there."

Every time this guy spoke, more and more questions popped into Shin's head. Apparently, he was part of the team. That would certainly explain the being at the mansion, or in the Danger Room. He knew his last name, too, and what he could do.
'Shard Mirrors' was what made things click. Now, where had he heard of a mutant who used mirrors before...? Well, there was that girl from the Yoshimi training scenario. What had her name been? He couldn't remember. She'd definitely been a girl, though... and he wasn't... She'd said Mirror-walking was all she could do.
Maybe she'd lied? Or maybe she'd had a sex-change. The thought of a twin had not even occurred to him!
Shin shrugged the line of thinking off, and unsheathed his shard sword. The sheathe drifted apart as he focused, joining the triangles that had once formed the sword and more he pulled into being, to make a mirrored surface big enough for 'Maya'. It was silver, rectangular, and reflected his entire body.
As soon as the mirror was formed, Gawain slipped into his own reflection once again, and then over into Shin's. Turning around inside the mirror, he grinned with Shin's face.
"You have some girlfriend, dude, this coat looks great." he chuckled, before he merged out of the reflection, and then out of the mirror. Standing in front of the shard manipulator, he smiled for a moment, waiting for his reaction.
Gawain was dressed in his training gear: black pants, black T-shirt, gloves and forearm protectors designed for archery practice; he had a quiver on his back, and the bow in his hand. He held his free hand out to Shin.
"Long time no see." he grinned, before he glanced around at the shadows in the Danger Room "So, what's on the menu today?"

Well, that was freaky. His reflection spoke. It spoke truth, but still, it spoke. "Yes, Kealey is rather amazing, isn't she?" Shin agreed with the person as he escaped the mirror's confines. It was a boy, teenage in appearance, with short dark hair and a bow and arrow on his back. Shin definitely had not seen him around.
He wasn't surprised by any of the mirror tricks. The outfit with the quiver was more intriguing by far. "Long time, no see", the boy told him, then asked what they were going to be up to today.
"I've met you before, haven't I? To state the obvious... can't recall a name, though. Pink robots, was it? The situation we met in last time?" He held his chin thoughtfully, then caught himself staring at Mirror's face curiously, and realized he had not answered the boy's question. "I was just recreating a scene from a Japanese television show I adore, with a main character who fights horrors wearing the guise of a golden lion knight. Kind of goofy. Don't care." A small grin slipped onto his face, to match the other boy's.
Gawain grinned. "Oh, ya're dating Kealey. That explains it."
Kealey was part of the X-team too; they'd been in the fight together not so long ago. She was smart. And apparently, very talented in making costumes. Hm. Better remember that.
>>"I've met you before, haven't I? To state the obvious... can't recall a name, though. Pink robots, was it? The situation we met in last time?"
"Yes. The pink robots." Gawain chuckled at that. Not his finest moment. First time in the Danger Room, ever. He still remembered that. "You know me as Maya. Besides walkin' in mirrors, I also change my gender every now and then." he grinned. Now, one more person who knew the truth. He would have figured out sooner or later anyway; he'd seen her/him walk through mirrors. And shards.
>> "I was just recreating a scene from a Japanese television show I adore, with a main character who fights horrors wearing the guise of a golden lion knight. Kind of goofy. Don't care."
"That's the fun in the Danger Room, isn't it" Gawain grinned, looking around "Mind if I join in? I cound use some target practice."

>>"Oh, ya're dating Kealey. That explains it."
"Yup," Shin said.
That explained it.
Confirmation on the pink robots. Maya. Now he remembered. It turned out, Maya did do something other than the mirrorwalkin'. Gender-shiftin'. Shin bet that was a fun trick at parties. There was a lot that came with that bag of tricks that Shin didn't want to ask about, so... he didn't. He just filed it away for future reference. 'Maya turns into a boy'. Maya also wanted to join in on his training.
"Sure," Shin replied. "Anything specific you had in mind... also... still 'Maya', or is there a male name you go by? Which is the default gender?" He had to ask.
Judging from the bow and arrows on the (currently) boy's back, Maya had been planning to play bow and arrow. Maybe they could base their training on a target practice course of some sort? He had been meaning to test out something, himself...
>>"Sure. Anything specific you had in mind... also... still 'Maya', or is there a male name you go by? Which is the default gender?"
"There's no default" Gawain smirked, holding the bow in his hands and checking it "I've been shiftin' even before I was born. One day it's Maya, and... on days like this, the name's Gawain." he said, looking up at Shin. "Yeah, like the knight."
Shin looked a bit confused about the whole thing. Most people were. He'll get there, eventually. Right now, doing the training sounded much more fun than having girl/guy talk.
"Nothing specific. Whatever you've got in this program that I can shoot at is fine by me." he grinned "And if you can add some mirrorshards, that'd be awesome."
Because what makes an anime fight scenario even more badass than it originally is? Reflective shards, cool swords and quick arrows. Yeeeeaaah.

Like the knight.
"Cool," Shin replied.
It actually was.
He was still a bit mystified by all the specifics, but wait. Hadn't he resolved not to dig too deeply into that topic? They were in the Danger Room. There were better things to distract them.
"I'll give you one better," Shin smiled at Gawain. He went over to the panel on the wall and started keying things in. After a minute, the floor shifted from its current color to a metallic black chrome. The chrome caught their reflections in its darkness. A few more keys were tapped. The chrome spread to the ceiling and the walls.
He turned back towards Gawain, then looked to the ceiling. "Run Simulation H-13. Horrors."
The danger room hummed in acknowledgment.
As Shin brought his hand up, focusing the shards Gawain had exited back into the form of a blade, all around the Danger Room black shapes edged free from the glassy black confines of the floor and the walls. Bones crackled, jagged carapaces formed and hardened. Winged demons stretched clawed hands out, pushing free to join their brethren. 13 Horrors growled at Shin and Gawain.
>>"I'll give you one better... Run Simulation H-13. Horrors."
Gawain grinned as suddenly they were surrounded by reflecting surfaces. That made a lot of things a lot easier for him; it also meant he'd need it for the things Shin had planned. He would bet on it that it wouldn't be easy, even with using his mirrorwalking to his advantage.
As forms and shadows started seeping out of the walls and melding into their opponents, Gawain checked his bow and pulled a few arrows from the quiver; he placed one on the string, and held three others in his left to the middle of the bow. It was faster that way.
Demons gained solid form around them, and they were reflected in the walls; Gawain stood back to back with Shin, bow and arrow ready, waiting for the first horror to make a move. He was still grinning.

They were big. They were ugly. There were 13 of them.
Gawain wanted to count.
"Sure," Shin said. He grinned at the demons on his side. "There are thirteen. We're done counting. This isn't the battle at Helm's Deep, and you aren't Gimli." Because of course, the guy with the bow and arrow would have to be Legolas, and Shin didn't want to be the dwarf. Shin focused on the reflections on the edge of his blade. Triangle eyes flicked from enemy face to enemy face. "Let's just focus on defeating the ones we can. Now."
He broke forward, rushing the first demon. His sword slashed through its chest horizontally, drawing a spray of inky black. The demon let out a bloodcurdling howl and fell back, shattering on the floor into nothing. As one fell, two more rushed Shin from either side. He brought up his blade in front of him, preparing to deflect.
>>"Sure. There are thirteen. We're done counting. This isn't the battle at Helm's Deep, and you aren't Gimli."
Gawain knew he was not Gimli. He'd never even thought about being Gimli, not for a second. Duh. The tall, handsome guy with the bow had to be Legolas. Or Strider. But he could see what Shinw as thinking about. If one of two is the elf, the other one gets to be the dwarf.
"Allright, you can count down too if ya want." he said with a smirk, drawing the bow, ready to shoot. He aimed at one of the horrors circling around them.
>>"Let's just focus on defeating the ones we can. Now."
"Sure, Gimli." Gawain muttered with a grin, before Shin charged into the battle with his triangle sword drawn. Gawain let the first arrow fly; it hit the creature in the chest, but was not enough to kill it. Gawain drew and aimed again; this time, the arrow hit the face. One more into the neck, and the horror was down.
Three arrows to get one monster. There had to be an easier way. But till he figured that out, Gawain had to keep moving, and firing arrows at them the old-fashioned way. They seemed to work just fine, apart from losing him the counting match.
"Two down!" he yelled cheerfully, reaching into the quiver to pull out more arrows; he failed to notice the monster looming behind his back...

"What did I say about counting?!" The sword slashed through the chest of one of the two monsters, forcing it to stagger back. The second met Shin's foot with its chest. Grimy hands clamped down. The sword struck out with a piercing thrust, to catch the monster in the eye.
"Screee!!!!" It howled. It took three steps back, clutching its face.
Shin's foot dropped to the ground to regain its hold on the ground that swept by underneath him on the planet at several hundred miles per hour. He turned towards Gawain, just in time to shout out a warning. "Behind you!"
His sword left his hand, sailing through the air to impale the horror attacking Gawain's rear. "Three!" Shin muttered, as the Horror fell to the ground with a sickening thud. The sword swung stuck in place, back and forth.
One more horror down. That left 10 to go! ... Unfortunately, this left him weaponless for one dark moment. Weaponless, and with a horror barreling towards his own backside. The horror with the injured eye rushed at him.
Hopefully, someone would intercept him before he did his killing charge...
