The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Raina was sleepy. She hadn't been sleeping well since her recent encounters with two certain telepathic mutant twins. She wondered if anyone else involved had been either. She gave a yawn and a stretch.
She was in the danger room wearing a track suit waiting for Shin. She decided her hand to hand combat needed a little work, especially after that run in. Not only that but she felt she was relying far too much on her mutant ability. She'd been doing half the work by physically training with Garret doing track, weights, and swimming... but now she really had to get more involved with her dexterity, balance, coordination, and timing. God knew Raina was horrible at all of those things unless she was underwater.
A few email exchanges around the mansion and she was happy to see that Shin was game. She liked Shin. She'd only gotten to spend a little bit of time with him before her trip and this would be their first real face to face meeting since coming back. She was anxious to get going and hoped that once her body did get moving she wouldn't feel so darn tired.

Shin was darn tired. There were bags under his trianglular-pupiled eyes that weren't geometric. They just sagged, and made him look sick. It was all due to Pokemon. He'd been up the past few nights, training Porygon. The contest deadline loomed ahead of him, like the Elite Four challenge in the games of the same name. He wanted to be ready, both in mind, and in spirit. Shin figured that some time, he'd have to find a way to sleep easy before the competition. If he were tired as he was right now, he might make foolish mistakes. It was strange. The only times he'd been sleeping well recently were when he was with friends. Drinking with Aurum and Kealey, and staying up late to watch Happy Feet, he'd slept like a baby. He wondered if he could replicate that baby-like sleep quality through other means. Maybe, if he tired himself out through exercise...?
When Raina had contacted Shin's e-mail, he'd thought it might just help as a means towards that end. He'd agreed. Shin hadn't been doing too much physical training lately. The tournament had distracted him from visiting his dojo. He still managed his walks with Thor, but aside from that, it had been difficult making time for physical conditioning. Training with Raina could be fun, and beneficial.
Shin arrived at the Danger Room on time, wearing a pair of gray sweat pants and a gray NYU sweatshirt over a white undershirt. He came up on her while she was stretching.

ooc: wow Shin I'm sorry, for some reason this was marked as read for me so I didn't realize you had posted!
ic: Raina smiled from ear to ear feeling a bit relieved that Shin also seemed a bit pooped. "Hey Shin! Thanks for coming." she hadn't gotten to see Shin much since coming back but she'd always been grateful that he was one of the first mansion residents to come to one of her official mermaid shows.
"You like about as tired as I feel." she teased. "Maybe this will help us both. I don't have any formal training." she explained "And I'm about as stealthy as an elephant..." she joked "But I obviously can't rely on my mutation. I really need to work on evading and holding my own. Maybe we could start with some simple self defense?" she took a stance and smiled playfully at him. "Ready when you are!"

"Simple self-defense?" Shin asked. He scratched the back of his head uncertainly. "What'd you have in mind? Just hand-to-hand combat, no powers, or..." He trailed off. She was striking a fighting pose. She'd said she wanted to practice fighting without her powers.
Shin shrugged. He supposed he could go without his powers, too. It was certainly more fair. Shin put up his fists in a boxing stance, and took a few steps towards Raina, keeping some space between them.
It seemed she was waiting on him to make the first move. Shin offered a light forward jab, aimed at Raina's face. "Try this."

"bwaa!" Raina threw her hands up to protect her face and fell backward on to her butt. Her face went as red as her hair and as much as part of her wanted to cry she couldn't help but laugh. "Ok, so, I'm a little rusty!" she hauled her sore butt up off the ground and blocked her face properly with her forearms to check to make sure she remembered how to do it. "Like this I think?"
If this was any indication of how this session was going to go, this was going to be embarrassing. Part of her wanted to just saunter off to bed. It would be a lot easier! But visions of her experience in that awful house continued to haunt her. She knew she had to at least make an effort. How else was she going to get any better. "I really have no clue what I'm doing." she confessed. "I've been working out and lifting weights but my strategy is usually to just call some ice." she explained. "Have you ever been in a situation yet where you lost you powers or couldn't use them?" she'd lost her powers each on their own once from stress. She was curious if anyone else had that type of experience.
She was making small talk but her body was poised in an attentive and defensive way, rigid and hard. She wouldn't fall on her butt this time. Or, at least she hoped she wouldn't.

>>"bwaa!"
"..." He hadn't even been trying hard, and she fell on her backside. Shin looked down at his fist sleepily in disbelief. Had he really underestimated the power of the strike? Or was she just as clumsy as she'd said she was?
He looked up again at Raina as she confirmed the latter.
"Er..."
>>"Like this I think?"
Raina tried demonstrating one way to block the blow. Shin nodded slowly. "One way to do it. Another would be to bring up one arm in a guard, while shifting your body to the side, in order to grab the person's arm with your free hand, and pull them in, and to the ground..." He brought up his arms, demonstrating and miming the move.
>>"I really have no clue what I'm doing."
Raina admitted.
Shin understood. Some things were complicated, and they took a lot of work to learn. Fighting was just one of those things.
"Maybe you should take some Jujitsu, Raina... it's good for defending yourself, and finessing your opponents into submission... works even when you aren't burly like Sam." He suggested. If she found a style that worked for her, that was the important part. "Jujitsu is more about strategy than brute force. You get to use your opponent's body against them." And in situations without his powers, it'd be just as useful.
"I'm actually trying to make a habit of using my powers less," Shin admitted. He shrugged awkwardly. "Or, at least, I'd like to..." If he had it his way, he'd fight for Mutant Rights in a white shard tuxedo, using just his fists and stylish good looks. If he could protect himself with cutting edge shard technology... while not cutting anything else... that was something to work towards.
"I was in one situation, though..." Shin's voice dropped conspiratorially. He looked around. "Back in Romania. There was this woman. She called herself an Adaptoid. She made me go blind... said she was human, I think. Then, again earlier this month, I met another one..." Shin looked Raina in the eye. "In situations like that, what's best is using your head over your fists. If you can out-think an opponent, chances are good you can beat them. It just requires," He pointed to his forehead. "A cool head."
"And maybe. Just maybe," Shin continued boldly. "A bit of finesse?" He gestured for Raina to come forward. "Try attacking me. I'll show you what I mean."
