The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Elizabeth made a handsome German Shepherd.
She strutted down a path in Central Park, allowing countless people to adore her gorgeous brown-and-black coat, her strong jaw, and her lovely, slightly fan-ish tail. She had picked a fine specimen of its race to possess. It was a stray; she knew that because she had accessed the canine’s memories and found the date when it had run away from its former humans. Liz felt no inclination to even think about returning him to them. It had been months ago, and they had abused Rufus (that was his name) so Liz didn’t think they had any right to claim him.
Besides, the two of them were having a perfectly marvelous time in the park. They had chased endless amounts of squirrels up trees, living for the thrill of the hunt, not even caring when time after time, the tiny fur-wrapped grey dynamos vanished up trees, reappearing briefly only to scold them. S/he barked them off. It was the game that mattered. They wouldn’t even had hurt the squirrels after catching them. That wouldn’t have been fun. You don’t break your toys.
But that must’ve been days ago. Okay, maybe it wasn’t. She was, after all, thinking in dog-time. Perhaps it had only been twenty minutes? Either way, it was the most fun Liz had had in quite a while. IF there was one thing the girl had learned in all of her limited experience in possessing critters, it was that dogs had more fun.
And so there she was, sitting by a bench and wagging her tail furiously while an old lady scratched behind her ears, when she heard something that made her ears perk up. If flame-grilled bacon was music, that’s what it would’ve sounded like. The doggy duo turned to orient the pooch’s body toward the beautiful sounds. Then they dashed off, following their ears.
It wasn’t long before they arrived at the source. A man was playing a guitar and singing. The music entranced both dog and human at once, jointly deciding to sit down beside the musician, wagging their tail and basking in the melody.
Today is a marvelous day to be outside, this is what Kalith thought to himself as he set up under a tree. He was going to be playing a guitar, his guitar case open in front of him to accept donations from passersby. He needed some money to buy a new amp for his band, not that you could call it a band. It was just him on a guitar and as lead singer. Still it was his dream to someday start up a band that would rock the worlds socks off. Before that though he needed to get his voice out there, where people could hear it.
Thus here he was, getting ready to play for the people of this park. It was a big crowd, many people out to enjoy the fine weather that the city had been having recently. Kalith smiled and started strumming on his guitar, his music already catching a little attention as his amber eyes looked around to judge the crowd and see what song he should sing.
When he felt he had a feel for the crowd he stood up and started playing a song, waiting for the right moment before he began to sing out loud,
"Saddle up your horses!" Kalith sang, using his powers to amplify his voice so that he could be heard a fair distance away, yet still be pleasant to listen to up close.
"Started out this morning, in the usual way. Chasing thoughts inside my head, of all I had to do today. Another time around the circle, try to make it better than the last!"
He smiled as people began to gather around, even animals seemed to be drawn by his voice. He didn't mind though, everyone had a right to enjoy his singing.
"I opened up the Bible, and I read about me."
His fingers danced across the strings of his guitar, playing music that went along with the beat of his voice.
"Said I'd been a prisoner, and God's grace had set me free."
His feet stepped to the beat,
"And somewhere between the pages, it hit me like a lightning bolt! I saw a big frontier in front of me, and I heard somebody say "let's go"!"
He then began to really jam on his guitar, his powers allowing those far away to hear his song and music like they were nearby. His pleasant tones washing over the audience like water from the shower.
"Saddle up your horses! We've got a trail to blaze! Through the wild blue yonder, of God's amazing grace! Let's follow our leader, into the glorious unknown! This is a life like no other, this is The Great Adventure!"
His energy could be felt permeating from every part of him. He was putting his all into this performance, just like he did with any showing of his talent. He wanted to fill these people with energy and inspiration, to give them a show and experience they had never before encountered.
"Come on get ready, for the ride of your life!"
His voice got louder.
"Gonna leave long faced religion, in a cloud of dust behind!"
His playing got more passionate.
"And discover all the new horizons , just waiting to be explored!"
His feet move more to the music as several people in the crowd started dancing and moving along with him.
"This is what we were created for!"
He actually spun around in place as before continuing.
"Saddle up your horses! We've got a trail to blaze! Through the wild blue yonder, of God's amazing grace! Let's follow our leader, into the glorious unknown! This is a life like no other! This is The Great Adventure!"
His fingers danced in the silence and the echo of his voice as it rang beautifully through the area. They danced across the strings and played a lovely solo as he got ready to continue singing. Though many would consider what he did next more like talking to a melody.
"We'll travel over, over mountains so high. We'll go through valleys below... Still through it all, we'll find that... This is the greatest journey, that the human heart will ever see! The love of God will take us far beyond, our wildest dreams!"
The music softened, and with it his voice.
"Yeah... oh saddle up your horses... come on get ready to ride!"
The last word rang out as the music picked up again, the guitar he played ringing out so it could be felt in the hearts and minds of all those present.
"Saddle up your horses! We've got a trail to blaze! Through the wild blue yonder, of God's amazing grace! Let's follow our leader, into the glorious unknown! This is a life like no other! This is The Great Adventure!"
His voice echoed out and he stopped playing, to the applause of everyone present. He smiled and bowed, always pleased when he gave a good show, and the donations from those who enjoyed the show started to come in. A few coins here and there, with the occasional dollar thrown in by those who really did have a good time. It wasn't the money that was important to Kalith though, it was that people had enjoyed his music.
He sat down with his guitar at his side and looked at the various dogs that had shown up. He flashed them all a smile and said, "I hope you all enjoyed the show. I know you have a much higher appreciation for music than most people would think."

Their head bobbed in time with the music, even going as far as to sway with the tunes. Their tail soon fell into the rhythm, slapping the ground at the right beat. None of the other three dogs that had accumulated had such a well-developed sense of timing. No, they were wagging off beat and out of sync. But they just couldn’t hope to be as magnificent as s/he was.
When the music picked up, Liz began barking along, coordinating her woofs with the beat. She adored music, almost anything from classic instrumentals to modern pop. Only heavy metal was beyond her, but this was nothing like it. If she’d had a lighter and some thumbs, she would’ve been swaying with it as well.
As hypnotized by the wondrous sounds as they were, it came as a near shock when the man began speaking to them. Well, the two of them and the other dogs. All the humans had left, moving on once their entertainment stopped. When boring, dull words replaced the rapturous music, the other dogs soon found more exciting things to do as well. That was okay, they weren’t civilized enough to appreciate art when they heard it.
“Woof, roof!” she barked, in response. In Dogspeak, it would’ve sounded like, “I LOVED your singing and playing! You should play another song!” But of course, neither Liz nor Rufus had ever met a human who could understand any of the Proper Languages. Such a pity. It meant that they had to refer to simple body language to communicate their desires.
She was about to nudge the man’s guitar with Rufus’ nose when a piercing scream filled the air, nearly making her keen ears bleed.
>>>“HELP! Somebody just stole my purse!”
When the screeching stopped, Liz conferred with the dog’s thoughts. Yeah, they both wanted to help. Rufus, because he was a good and loyal dog. Liz, because she was nice like that. However, she couldn’t do it alone. Situations were bad enough for her alone without looking for them. She’d need back-up. After all, she was a dog, a tough dog, but sometimes you just needed to be able to talk or work a door.
She cast a glance at the musician, giving a large-eyed piteous look, trying to express, “I’m an incredibly handsome and adorable dog and I really want to help that lady. You should come with me and help.” After all, nobody could resist puppy eyes.
Confident that the stare would work, the dog and mutant turn and bolted towards the source of the audible agony.
Kalith smiled when the dog nudged his guitar, as if it wanted him to play another song. He honestly considered it, as the dog seemed to be the only one to truly appreciate his songs. However before he could start to play there was a scream that rang out, a woman whose purse had been taken from her. Kalith immediately put his guitar in it's case and pick the case up by its strap, heaving it across his shoulder. The dog seemed to be thinking along the same lines as Kalith was as it took off in the direction of the scream. Kalith followed close behind it, able to keep up because he was fairly fit when it came to running.
When he got to the woman he asked, "What happened? Where did he go?"
The woman pointed at a man who was running away, ski mask on and everything. A real new york mugging at it's finest. Kalith nodded and smiled at the woman as he started to chase after the man. Whether the dog would follow him or stay with the woman he didn't know. All he knew is that he would have to play this by ear, which of course is a terrible pun on the fact that he was preparing to use his powers offensively by putting ear plugs in his ears.
He could do a concentrated sonic blast by focusing the sound out through his hands, but that would only slow the man down. What Kalith could do to the possibly armed man once he caught up was not even remotely in Kalith's mind. All he could think of was getting that woman her purse back, through any means available to him...

Liz/Rufus made it to the woman first. After all, they had four legs. Unfortunately, there was nothing else she could do. She couldn’t talk to the lady, ask her anything, or tell her she’d help. In fact, she probably looked like a big vicious dog just running over to attack her. That surprised her, but she sat down, just to look casual. She heard rapidly approaching footsteps.
She looked behind her and lo and behold, the music-man stood there. She nodded in acknowledgement of his arrival before turning, looking expectantly at the lady. Mr. Music cut to the chase with simple questions. She liked him already; he wasn’t an idiot who just wanted to console the lady. No, he was actually going to do something to get her purse back. She approved.
With her dim view of the direction the lady (who smelled like lavender, by the way) pointed out, Liz took off with a bark, a hair behind the man. In several paces, she caught up to him but she decided to go no faster. She needed help with this; it wouldn’t do to separate herself by running ahead. Tat would sort of defeat the purpose of back-up.
Also, she couldn’t track the thief on her own. He was way to far ahead to get a glimpse of him, especially due to her lack of altitude. There was quite a bit of people in the park, it being a lovely summer afternoon, and so she couldn’t get a clear view of anybody running. She couldn’t sniff him out, either. She had no idea what he smelled like and there were just too many people around.
So she was content to run by Mr. Music’s side. She started barking loudly, trying to lift her end of the bargain by getting people out of the way. She figured most people wouldn’t stay in the way of a running musician and a loud, handsome, devil of a dog like Rufus. “Outta my way, people! Good guys going after a bad guy, here!” So what if it sounded like a ton of barks? It’d probably still get the same message across.

Kalith considered his options as he and the dog closed in on the purse snatcher. He was in range now, which meant his powers would be effective against the thief, and he considered which kind of attack he would use on the thief. He looked to the dog and said, "If you can understand me, I suggest you do something to cover your ears. Cause things are about to get really loud."
He then pulled out of his pocket a whistle. It wasn't just any type of whistle though, it was one of those special whistles they give people as a means of defense against rapists and muggers. The kind of whistle that let out a loud high pitched sound that could very easily break a persons eardrums if they are too close to the sound.
Kalith put the whistle in his mouth, focusing his powers so that the sound waves would not travel too far away from the target, and began to blow the whistle. The high pitched sound traveled through his body and into his arm, where it went down to his hand and into his finger which he pointed like a gun at the escaping purse snatcher. This focused the sound wave into a blast of sound that traveled like a bullet and hit the purse snatcher right where it would hurt the most.
The purse snatcher doubled over in pain, dropping the purse he had stolen, and grabbed his ears as they began to bleed. This gave Kalith and the dog ample opportunity to catch up to him. Kalith then grabbed the purse and kicked the man hard enough to send him to the ground. It was fairly simple to do it since the whistle blast before had disorientated the purse snatcher and thrown his balance out of whack.
"Sic him boy!" Kalith said to the dog, hoping it wasn't hurt from the whistle attack...

Finally, a human who realized the intelligence of dogs. Most people just ignored conversation with canines, or used condescending baby-talk. Rufus hated that. He didn’t always know what people were saying, but he could tell from their tones that they weren’t taking him seriously. Now, though, Liz understood perfectly what Mr. Music said. He was foreshadowing that things were about to get really loud.
Obedience drilled into Rufus for years, the duo instantly dropped to the ground and tried covering their ears with their paws. Despite that, a sudden shrill screeching blast scorched through the air, blurring like a heat wave. Overly sensitive ears picked up on it, sounding like nails scraping on a chalkboard. It hurt.
But not as bad as it did the target! Liz stared out through canine eyes as a man suddenly collapsed, scrabbling at his ears. The Shepherd's nose picked up the slightly metallic scent of blood. Her nose crinkled up in distaste and sympathy. The poor guy! He must've been in agony!
The whistling screech was gone, by then. Ignoring anything Mr. Music said, Liz leaped off the ground and trotted over to the wounded man, placing herself squarely between him and the muscician. That extra kick had been too much! They already had the purse back!
Liz walked around the writhing man, sniffing. Besides the blood and the pain from undoubtdedly having his ear drums burst, the man was probably suffering from the additoinal pain inflicted upon him when he was kicked hard to the unforgiving concrete. There was nothing more she could do for him.
Suddenly she whirled on Mr. Music. She glared at him and lifted a lip up, revealing sharp teeth. She barked at him before turning her head meaningfully at the downed thief. She glared back again, waiting for him to do something about it. Like call for an ambulance or something. After all, in her mind, the dude made the mess, so he needed to help clean it up.

Kalith made sure the purse was alright then he saw the reaction the dog had to the downed thief. He realized he may have gone overboard in his retrieval of the purse and sighed. "Alright already. Don't look at me like that, I didn't do any permanent damage." He said as he pulled out a cellphone and called for an ambulance for the man. He told the person on the other line what happened, leaving out the use of his mutant powers.
When that was done he crouched down and looked at the dog, "There, happy? Now stop looking at me like I just neutered you or something." He said to the dog before standing up and waiting for the ambulance. When the paramedics arrived he told them what had happened and then headed off to return the purse to the woman it was stolen from. Whether the dog followed him or not was up to it really, and he wondered why the dog seemed so much more intelligent than normal dogs.
Either way, he returned the purse to the woman and smiled when she thanked him. A good deed done and he hadn't been punished for it, karma must be on his side today.

Liz merely stared at Mr. Music, even as he waited around for the ambulance to get there. He was a smart human; he eventually listened to common sense, even if he had to have been forced to accepting it by a gorgeous dog such as she. But that was okay. He seemed smart enough to be trainable, even at his advanced age and regardless of his gender (guys tended to not learn very well).
She hung around to make sure Mr. Music did his proper, civilian’s duty. And merely stared at him when he hunkered down to address her. She wasn’t happy, not really. Unnecessary pain and torment had happened here and he had tried to get out of doing the right thing by calling 911. No, that wasn’t cause for joy. Maybe he’d get it one day. She trotted away to sniff a tree while he gabbed.
Then he left, presumably to go back to the lady. Liz wasn’t so sure, so she followed him. It was easier to do so, since she’d gotten a really good whiff of his scent. That, and she stayed no less than four feet behind him. When they returned to the lady (who was still going on and on about her lost purse), Liz chaperoned Mr. Music, analyzing everything she said and did. Okay, he was nice enough. He didn’t even ask for a reward (not like the lady looked like she would’ve given one, or anything).
In short, she could work with him, to make him a proper civil citizen.
But she made sure she got a reward for all she’d put up with. She licked the lady’s hand and received a vigorous scratch behind the ears and a good scruff on the head. It was heaven! She licked the lady’s hand a few more times before dashing off, to the side of Mr. Music. Work was over, so now it was time to play. She butted her nose into his guitar case, trying to make him see what she wanted. He was a bad squealer, but he played and sang pretty well.

Kalith chuckled as the dog got its ears scratched, it seemed to be very proud of itself for making him do the right thing and stay by the thief he had wounded. Still he was surprised even more when the dog nudged his guitar case, indicating it wanted him to sing and play again. He smiled and crouched down to scratch the dog behind it's ears. "Alright, I get what you want." Kalith said and walked around looking for a place he could stand and play.
He didn't really feel like playing his guitar though, his fingers needed a rest after the use of his powers, so he looked for anyone else that might be playing music. Much to his luck he found one of those church groups that take children to the park and entertain them for the parents. He noticed the guy in charge of the group had a guitar of his own and he walked up and whispered a proposal in the guys ears. The guy nodded and sat down on a bench, gathering the children around as Kalith rested his guitar case against the bench.
The man started playing, allowing Kalith to bob his head up and down as the music played. Then, when the time seemed right, he started up,
"The long awaited rains, Have fallen hard upon the thirsty ground, And carved their way to where, The wild and rushing river can be found."
He started dancing, swaying his arms to and fro, hands clenched in fists as he closed his eyes and imagined the first day he ever saw a truely magnificent storm.
"And like the rains I have been carried here to where the river flows... yeah."
He remembered that day, when he ran around in the rain, a young boy filled with childhood wonder and mischief. He loved the storm as the water fell from the sky, drenching him completely down to his bones.
"My heart is racing and my knees are weak As I walk to the edge I know there is no turning back Once my feet have left the ledge."
He started moving faster now, hopping slightly as he remembered the beach that his father used to take him to, the way the storm made the ocean look so beautiful and tempting.
"And in my rush I hear a voice, That's telling me it's time to take the leap of faith, So here I go!"
He spun around on his heels, dancing very actively. Moving his feet to and fro as he spun around and stared into the sky. He raised his hands up to the sky, just like he did all those years ago when he raced into that stormy sea, and sang full force,
"I'm diving in, I'm going deep, in over my head I want to be, Caught in the rush, lost in the flow, in over my head I want to go, The river's deep, the river's wide, the river's water is alive So sink or swim I'm diving in!"
He sang with such gusto, such life, that others in the park stopped what they were doing and came to watch his performance. The children clapping along with the music and humming together. Kalith remained silent, just letting the mans guitar playing guide his feet as he danced. Then when the song reached a calmer tempo he started in again,
"There is a supernatural power, In this mighty river's flow. It can bring the dead to life, And it can fill an empty soul."
He remembered that rush that filled his head as his body started to grow numb. The cold water all around him and it began to fill his lungs.
"And give a heart the only thing Worth living and worth dying for... yeah"
He stared out into the crowd that had started to form, some people taking seats on the grass to watch and listen to his song. He smiled wide and remembered the day of that storm. As he fell below the surface and swept out to sea there was only the cold and the emptiness.
"But we will never know the awesome power, Of the grace of god. Until we let ourselves get swept away Into this holy flood..."
Then out of no where a warmth embraced his body. A powerful body that lifted him from the sea and walked him onto dry land. He had not truly lost consciousness but through the blurred vision he got a look at his father, the man who would later teach Kalith how to sing as wonderfully as he did now.
"So if you'll take my hand We'll close our eyes and count to three... And take the leap of faith! Come on let's go!"
He threw his hands up into the air again as the guitars tempo picked up, seemingly louder than it was before,
"I'm diving in, I'm going deep, in over my head I want to be, Caught in the rush, lost in the flow, in over my head I want to go, The river's deep, the river's wide, the river's water is alive So sink or swim I'm diving in!"
As the guitar continued into its climax he remembered his father praising him on his enthusiasm for life and how he hoped this one moment of near death would not dampen it. That no matter what, sink or swim, when given the choice Kalith would dive in with courage in his heart.
"Come on let's go!"
He cried out and spun around, the children now dancing around him,
"I'm diving in, I'm going deep, in over my head I want to be, Caught in the rush, lost in the flow, in over my head I want to go, The river's deep, the river's wide, the river's water is alive So sink or swim I'm diving in!"
The children started singing along now, the guitar reaching ever higher into its final notes,

Liz followed Mr. Music, a puzzled expression on her face. Why didn’t he use his guitar? It had been working just a minute ago. She followed him across the park as he located a group of mostly children. He talked to the guy with the git-fiddle but she didn’t really pay attention to it. Humanspeak not specifically directed to her wasn’t that interesting. Also, eavesdropping was impolite.
She sat patiently behind the ring of small children, the air of a dignified music enthusiast surrounding her. She was there for the music, not the atmosphere. She ignored most of the children’s attempts to play with her. There could be time for that later, after all, the music had already begun.
As before, the singing was pretty good. The guitar wasn’t quite as impressive this time, but she gave the man kudos for not really being prepared and still playing very well. She dispelled her critiques quickly, allowing herself to be caught up in the flow of music. It was so easy, doing that with Mr. Music. He had a way of putting his whole body into the song, permeating it with his feelings and emotions. She could tell the song had some personal value to him.
As the last strands of music died away, Liz sighed. It would’ve been nice if the song could’ve gone on for a bit longer. She really enjoyed the man’s music. So did Rufus. Unfortunately, though, she couldn’t hang around too much longer. She been gone for quite some time and didn’t want anybody to be worried about her, or worse, try to move her body.
After a respectful pause, Liz caught Mr. Music’s eye and nodded deeply at him. Then she whirled around and ran away.
