The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The question was so out of the blue. Noel had been minding her own business, long braid swishing over the sword she had strapped to her spine. She probably wouldn't even think it was addressed to her if he hadn't said her name.
The woman stopped and looked for the source of the foreign voice. Looked for him. Even Jude had to admit, he looked a bit sad and cold waiting out there for her.
"Excuse me?"
The Frenchman repeated himself. "Is he hurting you?" And then after some hesitation he clarified. "Sebastian, I mean. He didn't… hurt you? Or anything?"
"Do I know you?" Noel tensed in a way that looked as if she might be ready to fight or run. She was ready. Jude was not.
His power took a long lazy lick from under his skin. She was a weak mutant. Nothing his power was really interested in. With his current speed power, he could outrun her, he was sure. "Sebastian iz my fathzer."
"Yeah?" The girl was clearly weirded out. "Well, if you think he's hurting me, you obviously don't know him very well."
The scene changed into something foggy and reset itself.
"Excuse me are you Nöel?"
The question was so out of the blue. Noel had been minding her own business, long braid swishing over the sword she had strapped to her spine. She probably wouldn't even think it was addressed to her if he hadn't said her name.
"Yes?" She was always so suspicious sounding.
"Have you ever met a man withs a horn…" Jude made motions with his hands indicating a unicorn's horn.
"You mean Sebastian?"
"Yes. What's he like?"
"Why don't you come meet him?"
The scene changed into something foggy and reset again.
"What are you up to?"
"Excuse me?"
"The swords, the secrets, the training. What's it all for?"
The brunette reached over her shoulder for the handle of the sword Jude already knew hid there. "Should I show you?"
The scene changed into something foggy and reset. This time it was Sebastian walking down the street.
"Jude. Stop." Alister's hands fumbled his own sunglasses back on to break their eye contact. "This isn't getting us anywhere. We need to split up." He sounded a bit put out that Jude had run off on a tangent with him in tow.
"No. You're right." Jude sat back in his chair and pulled his glass of water closer so he could sip out of the straw. These sessions with Alister were always disturbing and enlightening. Double use of the same power meant all kinds of things that were not possible with one could now be done.
One of those abilities was the power to split off and see into anything related to either of them. Jude could look into his own future or Alister's. They didn't have to stick together and see the same things.
The most useful ability was the potential to make decisions that affected what they saw. If Jude decided to go to China and formed real intentions about visiting, then he could get to China in a vision and check things out. The minute he decided that China wasn't a real option, however, he would be in a different future that reflected his new decisions.
"I'm re-setting the timer to an hour. No messing around this time." Alister fiddled with the kitchen timer until it was back to full time. Sometimes, without an external reason, it was hard to come back. Dry eyes were not enough.
The more Katrina thought about it, the more she believed it: Alister was hiding something. Out of all of them, he was the one that demanded the most information from everyone else, yet shared the least with them. What he did share was carefully worded to only give them the barest minimum of what they needed to know to get done what Alister said needed to get done.
She didn't like it. She was certain he was using them, and yet, she knew it was for a good cause. He was the one that rallied them, it was his cause they were fighting for, it was on his word that they all jumped to help stop impending doom.
She didn't want to quit. She just didn't want to be kept in the dark any more.
All of the secrets, all of the unexplained orders, she wanted to understand the puzzle pieces better.
The biggest one nagging on her mind was the snippet of Alister's future that she had seen be wandering into his dream. Who had he been planning to kill? Why had he been so angry that she had overheard part of that conversation? What else was he hiding in that labyrinthine mind? What exactly was the master plan for not ending the world? Because the part of it she had seen, she hadn't particularly liked.
She wanted to talk to someone about it, bet there was a shortage of people who would understand. The Oracle kids were a pretty tight knit group, so she didn't want to discuss her reservations with anyone that was really close to Alister. Then again, with his ability, he probably already knew if she was going to betray him before she even considered it a possibility.
The most level headed, trustworthy person she could think of to talk to about her reservations was Jude. He understood a great deal about how Alister's powers worked and he hadn't been with the Oracle kids as long as everyone else. In addition, he had a sort of connection to Katrina in the way that he had experienced a grown up world, then been thrown back into childhood again. For awhile, at least. Now he was mostly an adult.
When Katrina arrived at Future Sight, Jude and Alister were locked in a staring contest in the kitchen. She didn't want to disturb them if they were doing something important, nor did she want to find out what they were looking for by touching one of them and seeing the visions for herself. Alister was suspicious enough of her doing that before she had started becoming so suspicious of him.
No, she'd wait out in the front room until they were quite finished. She had a Serbian composition to write anyway: a paper defending the actions of a former politician with whom she agreed. It had to be completely in Serbian, with a maximum of 30 grammar errors or she had to redo the entire thing. Her rough draft was almost complete. She settled down in one of the plush purple chairs with her notebook and a dictionary for looking up those words she hadn't ever needed to use when she was actually in Serbia.
He kept finding the same five. Two brown-haired girls and three boys. The knitter, Arianna. The fighter, Nöel. The musician, Perry. The proselytizer, DJ. The follower, Hal... he seemed to still be recovering from something.
These were the pillars that supported Sebastian. If Future Sight needed to mount an offensive, it would have to be against these five pillars. Assuming that Sebastian had not made them all immortal yet. Weird... that he could do that for strangers and not for Ghost.
The kitchen timer zinged into Jude's conscious thought. It interrupted a battle where Arriana's affinity for string showed to be more useful than just for knitting. That was one vision of the future that Jude did not mind pulling out of.
Jude took his time getting his glasses on. The more he learned about Sebastian's church, the more he was... bothered. The whole idea baffled him. People were going to earn their immortality. Some of the religious churches had the same model, but Sebastian's church had proof. DJ would preach a powerful sermon on his personal immortal experiences this Sunday. As a result, the church would have a record turn out to a community swap meet. The whole thing made Jude a little sick. And a little jealous.
"Find anysing good?" Jude's dreary tone indicated that he had not. To chase away those blues, he pulled a pice of chocolate out of the candy dish at the center of the table.
"Katrina." Confused at first, Jude had to twist in his chair to see where the blonde was working on her homework. Alister sounded annoyed enough that he must have been surprised to see her.
"Hey." Jude waved from behind his sunglasses with a mouth full of chocolate. "What's up?"
