The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

If there was a job that Shade liked more than stealing priceless artifacts, assassination had to be the one. There was nothing like slipping into a thought to be impenetrable fortress, taking down your target, and slipping right back out from under the guards' noses. It gave you a strange sense of accomplishment, because although you knew you had done it, your enemy did not (although most times it was easy to guess). They would always react in the same way. An alarm two minutes too late would announce their discovery of the corpse, then would follow the very random movement of security personal as they scrambled to try and recover any information about anything that might help him solve the mystery of the assassin's identity.
A smile curled across Shade's lips as he thought about it. The perfect execution was always the best. However, those were rare and required weeks, even months of recon and preparation. Things that were not usually available due to time restrictions as it was in this case. The Russians had contacted Shade about the proposal only a few ago. With agreement had come a set of instructions. They led him to Beijing where he was now. After that, he only had three days of preparation before the deed was to be done. At the present, the city was filled with tourists from every prosperous nation in the world. Some had come to watch the famous sakura trees blossom in the spring, some had come to see the marvelous palaces and theaters, and still, others had come to relax, shop, and drink. This, of course, made blending in very easy, but it also meant beefed up security and guards on a heightened sense of awareness. Two things that made assassinations tougher things to get away with.
Following the instructions to their destination in the city, Shade found himself in a half-finished office building overlooking the lights of downtown Beijing. The place reeked of wet paint and newly cut sheet wall. It wasn't a place Shade liked very much. Too clean, it didn't have much of anything to mix with if he might actually leave any trance of himself. However, the Russians had picked the spot. It was here he was suppose to meet his partner for this mission.
Partner! As if he need one. If the Russians need half of anything, they would have known Shade would have been enough for this mission anybody else was just someone who would get in the way. Or worse, cause the mission to fail. Or still worse, cause Shade to get caught. The shadow mutant's face tightened at the thought. God help this mutant if they cause his capture. However, he held back some judgment. First, he would at least meet the mutant before labeling him a burden. So, there he stood, invisible in the half-finished, darkened room watching the movement of the city below him as he waited for his fellow assassin to show.
Alexandra found herself in Beijing, an uneasy feeling on her mind. Lately, she had been having second thoughts about her job. Yes, she would have resigned the mission if she would have just made her mind at once. Unfortunately, her mind was torn between what it seemed to be right and wrong. This job… it seemed to be perfect for doing her own kind of justice. So there she was, in front of a half finished office building where she was supposed to meet the other assassin. She wasn’t sure about this either. From her past experience, partners only meant problems. And especially when it came to assassinations, partners were by definition useless.
But then again, she was curious on how this would turn out and how this particular partner would turn up to be. The instruction she had received back in New York from her employees were scarce. Just the target and the place where she would meet her soon to be partner. Well, she hoped that this would remain the same till the end. She hated when she was being told how to do her job.
Ignoring all the tourist attractions, Alexandra, or better said now Circe, entered the unfinished building. Her nose wrinkled at the smell of fresh paint, but she was used to all kinds of conditions her jobs implied. The way to the meeting room was memorized from a long time ago. The room was dark and it appeared that no one was inside. However, Circe had been checking her watch periodically and it certainly was the time specified in the briefing. So she assumed her partner would be as punctual as a mission of this importance required. “Hello.” she simply said, her voice cold and professional.
Shade's eyes closed as he felt the presence of another move through the shadows. Either it was his partner or a dead man. Whoever it might be, no one got the drop on Shade, especially at night. He 'jumped' into a neighboring room, ready for an assault. Instead, the mysterious figure announced themself, and by the sound of the voice, it was a woman. Not exactly the partner he had been expecting, but being a member of the Order, Shade had come to know many female mutants that were more than capable of killing: Syn, Isabel, and the twins just to name a few.
Another 'jump' put Shade across the hall from the scheduled meeting room, putting him behind the unknown intruder. A test was in order to ensure this was his partner. Grabbing the handle of the door separating him and the woman, Shade twisted and pulled slightly, causing the door to swing open slowly. However, Shade was gone before the door was six inches open, teleporting back to his orginal position near the far wall of the proposed meeting room with one knife already drawn and his other hand ready to materalize another if necessary.

Arielle always loved China and it was a beautiful country to vacation in. However a vacation was not the reason why she was here now. It was just the opposite. There was a job that had to be done...yes, one of those jobs. More blood was to be put on the water elemental's hands. After the last job she was given by Abyss to assassinate Cold Steel, she ended breaking down in confession to Sam of how she had spent the past few years of her life taking lives for funds. What was worst that after realizing she couldn't kill Sam, she promised herself that she would never kill again....well, some promises where just made to be broken at least until the China President was dead. Then she would quit. Definitely she would quite the assassin gig, but there had to be one last thrilling kill to be made.
What was different about this mission was that she would have partners to execute the killing, something Arielle had never experienced before. All her targets came from death by her hands alone, not with the help of others. She got away clean with taking out the french president, she figured she could easily take out Mr. China, but it was whatever. Maybe having partners would be more interesting. Arriving into the building, Arielle entered a dark room and she wasn't alone. There was another person there. A person Arielle hadn't seen in years.
"Alex?" Arielle quirked an eyebrow as her former acquaintance and mansion resident. Shaking her head she shook her head as she crossed her arms and smirked. "Girl, you were the last person I expected to see here...." she spoke, though something still made her a bit tense. Like there was someone or something else in the room, but as far as she could see, it was just her and Alexandra. Still, she put her mind on alert, ready to shift into liquid mode at any second. "How have you been?" Arielle asked Alexandra while she still looked around her making sure that they were alone.
The room remained empty however the annoying feeling of someone watching from the shadows was still lingering. The door knob turned around and the door began to open, making Alexandra’s attention snap to that precise location. However, no one could be seen standing there, the room just as empty as before. Her annoyance was growing, her partner was whether a teleporter or gifted with invisibility. Indeed, useful for assassinations, but certainly annoying to the molecule manipulator. Games like this were something she hated with a passion, and were totally unneeded. Her attention turned on some metal bar she has noticed when she had first entered the room. Focusing her powers on its molecules, she scattered them around the room, having them ready to reform whenever it was necessary.
The person that entered the room just as she was focusing her attention on the darker parts of the room trying to locate whoever was there, made her eyes widen. It seemed that this last week was a week of surprises. “Ari?” she asked, not masking her surprise. She certainly wasn’t expecting to meet her here either. The thought of her being an assassin was shocking to her and suddenly thousands of questions popped up into her mind. “I didn’t expect to find you here either.” she confessed finally managing to remove the shock off her face. “Didn’t expect to find out you’re an assassin either.” she added with a chuckle.
Arielle’s latest question had her expression turn into a not happy one. The fact that she was being here let a good impression on what she has been doing in the past years. Kill and destroy, that was about everything. Except Airyn, who was her greatest act of creation ever. And the realization that Sam had found out he had a daughter came back again. Alexandra let out a half smile. “Let’s say that past is coming back to me and it’s not doing it the easy way.” she said, then her eyes moved back to the dark parts of the room. “But I think this should be discussed privately.” she said in a low tone. “I think our partner it’s up for games.” she said again in her normal tone, loud enough for whoever was there to hear. Her tone wasn’t pleasant either, it clearly showed that she wasn’t happy about this fooling around and she hoped that her and Ari’s new partner in crime would quit it.
These two were seriously his partners? The two women were acted like it was a high school reunion of sorts. One even accused him of playing games. Shade's thoughts drifted darker as he envisioned the act of just murdering the two female mutants here and doing the job himself. That way he didn't have to split the reward either. The iron from the bars the first mutant had shattered acted almost like a heavy cloud of dust, covering Shade's cloak and exposed skin. The molecules gave a nice see-through effect. Now only barely visible to the naked eye, the shadow mutant threw his dagger into the floor below, embedding it in the wood. Without light, the knife remained. Although, it would be gone three seconds after the sun rise. Shade teleported into a cloud of iron dust, cutting the distance to the women in half. He reappeared as the same outline of iron particles.
"You two are sure loud for supposed assassins." Shade remarked with a hint of distaste. Apparently, this was what passed as assassins now-a-days. Hopefully, their powers would make up for their lack of stealth. If not, this assassination might not work out.
"Oh, and I'm not much of a games person...well, unless the game includes killing someone. I had to be sure you were my partners. Of course, it wasn't hard to figure it out after you broad casted it to half of China." Shade said, turning to his accuser.
"Well...you know, things change, people change," Arielle shrugged and chuckled a bit when Alexandra showed surprised that she had become an assassin. Something she still tried to understand herself, but didn't really. She was one of the good guys who always opted to spare a life rather than take one...then she remembered her family being killed in cold blood and how well taking the lives of others paid. "I mean, killing is just a way to pay the bills," she said, though she knew that Aiden made more than enough to support her and their children. Then there was just the fact that it was a more thrilling life than just being another spoiled house wife who spends her days at the spa and taking the children shopping every other day.
Arielle nodded as Alex started talking about her past and understood when she wanted to continue the conversation in private. After all, it wasn't safe to spill personal information in the room when they weren't alone.
"You two are sure loud for supposed assassins." Shade remarked with a hint of distaste.
"Ah, so our mystery person shows himself. Lovely," Arielle smirked folding her arms as she glanced over in Shade's direction.
"Oh, and I'm not much of a games person...well, unless the game includes killing someone. I had to be sure you were my partners. Of course, it wasn't hard to figure it out after you broad casted it to half of China." Shade said, turning to his accuser.
"Oh, sorry. You're right. Our bad. I mean, if anyone else were here they'd be able to get away with a woman who manipulates molecules, a guy who teleports through shadows and myself? I highly doubt that, but you're right. Perhaps we should have been more discreet mister....who the hell are you supposed to be anyway?" Arielle asked. "I mean, if we're supposed to be working together...I believe introductions are in order? Hm?"
The third and mysterious assassin made his appearance moments after she had spoken, his words one of distaste and a certain paranoia she had met on many occasions. She wondered what happened with all these peoples that killed for a living that they became so paranoid about showing themselves or even talking in what it was called a meeting place.
Alexandra quietly nodded at Arielle’s comments about the changes and couldn’t help but smile at the ‘killing pays the bills’ remark. She was aware of the sum Aiden received as a Kabal member and more money were certainly not needed in this family. She didn’t question’s Arielle’s reasons anyway as she had found herself in the same situation. She had enough money to sustain a luxurious life for her and her daughter and she was still killing for a job.
An approving grin appeared on her face as Arielle had spoken to this shadowy figure, and for the first time Alexandra took a second to analyze him. The man seemed familiar but she couldn’t place him yet. With this still on her mind, Alexandra summoned the iron particles to form a long pole into her hand, an end pointed to the floor, the other into the new man’s direction. It was just a small display of what Arielle had said of her, a taste of what this molecular manipulator could do.
Although her appearance was calm and somehow mocking, she was annoyed by the disapproving tone in the man’s voice. She wasn’t a woman that judged a book by her cover and therefore hated every display of this kind of personality trait. Still admiring Arielle’s straight-forward personality, just like she did years ago, her attention was fully focused on their new partner in crime. “And I might add that if our employees found this location for us to discuss plans for this upcoming assassination, do you really think that someone else would be here too?” she said, a mocking smile appearing on her face. “Or do you think we’ve been hired to kill a neighbor’s disturbing cat?” Alexandra sighed, wishing she wouldn’t have signed up for this mission as it looked that the shadowy figure standing in front of her was going to run everything. “Quit the paranoia already.” she added.
So they weren't intimidated by the him. Shade could see that from the start. That was good because this way Shade did not have to run this mission by himself. Neither were they scared, or nervous, meaning they had done this before, always a bonus. Maybe the Russians finally got something right for a change. Hiring one good assassin was smart, but three highly trained killers that was outkill? Either that or they just really wanted this president dead.
>"Perhaps we should have been more discreet mister....who the hell are you supposed to be anyway?" Arielle asked. "I mean, if we're supposed to be working together...I believe introductions are in order? Hm?"
"Name's Shade. I'd love to show you the rest of me. However, its a little too dark in here for that. Hope you don't mind." The shadow mutant replied, smirking at his own comment. However, one would have to have very good eyesight to see the tiny movement of grey move against the lighted skyline behind him.
"And you would be...?" Shade asked back in the same tone he had recieved from Nereid.
>“And I might add that if our employees found this location for us to discuss plans for this upcoming assassination, do you really think that someone else would be here too...Quit the paranoia already.”
"Hey, if there is one thing in this business that remains the same, it's that you trust nobody. Hell, this could all be a set-up by the Church of Humanity." Shade barely managed to finish the sentence before a chuckle escaped his lips. The Church had long been set in its place as only a figure of humans trying to control mutants. It remained locked in turmoil with relatively few members now.
"Very nice display though. Can't wait to see it in action." The Order member cooed at Circe, an invisible grin spread across his face.

"Shade, hm? Well a name fitting for your abilities displayed so far," Arielle nodded with a hand kept to her chin and since he kindly asked, she introduced herself. "The name's Arielle.." she gave her real name. She wasn't sure if it'd be right to give her codename given to her by the X-men. It would have been disrespectful to use it for such foul business...then again.."Or you can call me Nereid. Either is fine." she said and smirked at Circe's demonstration of her abilities. Perhaps Arielle though it would be nice to give a demonstration of her own.
Transforming into her nymph form and with a wave of her hand, the water elemental drew from the water molecules in the air to form 2 small spheres. The first one she shot towards towards her feet, elongating it into a high pressured stream that dented the wall. The second sphere manipulated and frozen into an ice spike, also hurled and stuck into the wall. Of course there was more she could do but she wasn't here to give a show. She was here for business and the sooner it was over with, the better.
“Indeed, fitted name.” Alexandra agreed with a smile in Arielle and Shade’s direction. Her eyes moved on Shade as she took a slight jokingly bow. “And thank you.” The molecule manipulator stopped talking as Arielle turned into nymph form and summoned thewater spheres. “I have this slight impression that this trio will do wonders for this mission.” she added with a grin just as Arielle was finishing the little display of her own powers.
She gave a slight nod in her direction and grinned. “I wanna see which coh member would get past this baby. she said as she looked once again at the sliced wall. “However, I wouldn’t let too many traces of mutants being here.” she said as her face turned serious. The ice spike became water and was summoned to her opened palm. Her hand turn into a fist then opened quickly and water molecules dissipated into thin air. Her eyes focused on the wall and cracks appeared to repair themselves.
As soon as everything was fixed, her eyes turned back to the normal blue of her contact lenses. “Shade, can you give a quick check to the surroundings to make sure no one is here?” she asked, her tone now business like but yet friendly enough not to seem like she was speaking with authority or bossing them around. “Then we can talk about our mission.” she concluded as she waited for the shadow mutant’s reply.
"Nice to meet you, Arielle." Shade replied after the display from the water manipulator. His eyes traveled back to Circe as she commented about the probable success this group might have with the mision.
"I would have to agree. I was spectacle at first. However, there will have to be a formitable army protecting the president if they want any chance of stopping us." Shade said with an evil chuckle. Something did worry him though. If Russia had to muster this strong of an assassination group. What kind of protection was the president under? It was a question that they would have to answer in the coming days.
-"Shade, can you give a quick check to the surroundings to make sure no one is here?”
"Certainly." He replied. Closing his eyes to increase his concentration, Shade began to reach out to the all the surrounding shadows. All the dark little corners where even the smallest of shrinking mutants might be hiding. Shapes filled his mind of places where he was unable toe teleport. Walls, work benches, tool chests. All became imprinted in Shade's mind as he moved through the different floors of the skyscaper. When he was satifitified that nothing alive was moving in the skyscaper except them and the horde of bugs that infested the undone building, Shade opened his eyes, breathing a sigh of relaxation.
"We're clear. Nothing but us and a colony of spiders on the fifth floor."
