The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

”Dangerous place.” Sam half joked not prying any further into it. He too got lost in his thoughts and more often than not it lead him to a darker place. Over the years though it got easier to pull himself back. Eve and Cora helped. Gave him a reason not to dwell for too long. Maybe Rex didn’t have anyone like that. It definitely made slipping into the bottle easier.
”Idel hands Idel mind.” he too found it easier with distractions. No time to think about the next drink or how he was feeling. It was also easier to put on a brave face while around others. Sam took ‘fake it till you make it’ to a whole other level.
There was the comment that made Sam a bit more curious about what Rex had done but then again it wasn’t any of his business. The one-eyed X-man nodded his head for a moment before adding. ”We aren’t the sum of our mistakes you know.” he sipped his coffee, ”We all have things we regret, things to make up for. It’s how we live our lives now that matter. Not what mistakes were made in the past.” it was something Gemma had told him often during their sessions. It felt kind of good to say as well for it was another reminder for himself.
”Just got to leave the world a better place than when we found it.”

”No.” Sam said flatly folding his arms and staring at the muscular giant. ”She missed our sparring session today and Zorro seemed to be in her room longer than he wanted which is weird because she’d never let that happen.” most of the mansionites when requested often helped out the teacher’s and other students with their pets. Especially if they want to make a good impression... most of them anyways.
Sam eyed the Irishman as he fumbled with his strings and then shifted his gaze back to Herc, ”When was the last time you talked to her?” trying to get a time frame. If it was longer than 24 hours there would have been more of a sign that Zorro was locked in the room longer.
”Saw her leave this morning.” Carrick said absent mindedly. Both Herc and Sam turned back to the smaller man in the room who was plucking a string while trying to hear the note.
”You see what she was carrying? Did she say where she was going?” Sam asked quickly, his own concern for his friend was apparent seeing as it seemed so ‘not like her’.
”Hmmm?” Carrick asked before being scuffed by his shirt and lifted off the ground. This time Hercules was doing the questioning. ”Whoa!”
”Elizabeth, boy! I shall not ask again! Did she say where she was heading!?!?” the glowing became more clear as his sleeve ripped with the motions as he lifted the winged wonder. ”Careful! Still a student here! This be considered a threat to some!” Carrick placed a hand on the big guys wrist and wondered if his guitar would be enough to knock himself free. Looking at the size of Hercules’s bulbus head Carrick decided it wasn’t the best choice.
”Sam?” There was no response just Carrick getting lifted higher off the ground till he was eye-level with the giant. ”Teach!” Carrick repeated again knowing he’d get a response better that way.
”The man asked you a question.” knowing Hercules would harm a child, at least he hoped he didn’t. They were in the mansion so Doc the healer was close, not to mention Carrick’s own healing abilities. Sam was curious about them but more curious as to where his friend was. It wasn’t the forty-eight hours to report a missing person but it was enough to be concerned for her well being.
”She.. Was leaving the grounds, had a purse and got a cab!” Carrick said almost snarling. This time Sam moved close enough to place a hand on the giants arm, ”See? Pretty easy to answer. I don’t know why you are so difficult.” the tone of voice Carrick had seemed more hostile and more trapped than anything. They didn’t need to deal with his shifted form right now.

”Liz! You missed training! And all the calls! You better not be getting cold feet about training! Not gonna look good when you’re leading the search and rescue teams!” he said taunting the woman as he hollered on the other side of the door. There was a scratching at the door, Sam thought better on it and waited for a response from her. There was none just more noises from inside the room.
Did she have someone over? Sam was about to walk away and give her some crap another day about ditching when he heard more scratching at the door followed by a whine. ”Liz. I’m opening the door.” he knocked again knowing it was an invasion of privacy, he also knew Zorro wasn’t one to scratch at the doors unless there was a reason. Maybe she hadn’t been home in some time? That too wasn’t like her. She would have asked someone to let him out.
It took a second for Sam to will an ice clone on the other side of the door to unlock it, something he didn't’ advertise he could do, Sam was a teacher after all and breaking and entering was not very teacherly. However he knew if she heard Zorro was trying to get out and no one helped him well, the bird would have had a few choice words to say.
The door opened and the lights were out, ”Hey bud!” Sam said to Zorro who zipped down the hallway towards the nearest exit. Clearly he had been in there for some time. The session was mid afternoon. It was now the evening. Had Zorro been in there all day?
Sam looked to his phone and texted Liz one last time. ‘Zorro was scratching, I let him out. Next session will be twice as worse for ditching. All good?’ before closing the door behind him. Nico squawked at Sam and started muttering some choice words that seemed all to familiar from another mansion resident. The accent was a dead giveaway. Rolling his eye he shut the door behind him.

The already frozen air in the room was unsettling to Sam. The back and forth between the two seemed almost pointless now. Something was wrong the icemancer just couldn’t place it yet. Was it the way he was talking almost sounding like he was going to break out into song? No, this conversation wasn’t with Carrick and most sane people didn’t break out into song often. Sam’s hand flexed on it’s own for a moment under his ice armor. He didn’t acknowledge it but tightened his grip when he realized it happened.
”Then it shouldn’t matter if I take them off your hands.” Sam said offering a quick solution that would get them all out of there and give Sam a chance to report everything. The former assassin adjusted his posture as the man spoke suddenly feeling something that Sam could only define as ‘squirmy’ he had to move but couldn’t place it.
When Sam heard his name his jaw muscles tightened, ”Rime, been going by Rime now actually.” the one eyed X-man chuckled. Well. So much for bluffing his way through it. He could fight his way out now. Shouldn’t be that hard.
”So it seems you know my name, and enough of my history.” Sam chuckled, ”You think you can stop me from taking the researchers now? You are here quite illegally as well. Seeing as I’m doing the heroics now, I can’t really let this place remain here.” Sam said trying to shrug. His body felt movement but it wasn’t the movement he wanted.
”I’m here for the researchers..... one in particular. His wife is worried about him and I owe him a favor.” Sam said revealing more than he wanted to. His hand moved up on it’s own but was restrained by the ice covering it. Looking down at his hand ”You’re trying to control me?” this time Sam started to laugh.

”Oh? Has anyone ever told you life is full of disappointments?” Sam asked still trying to stay in character, normally he’d quip back with something and then start fighting but he was supposed to be lord Odin after all. Maybe Sam was a method actor?
”The kind that is between a god and the mortal that owes the debt.” he said calmly the air dropped a bit more around Weltgiest and his salt and peppered hair. He was too calm. Sam took offense to that. Or was it because his Odin took offense to that. Sam continued, ”I’m a busy god. Lots to do.”
Weltgesit continued and Sam frowned with the change of tone. He was seemingly far too relaxed given the fact that Sam just invaded his base. Like the trap was already sprung. Sam’s thermal vision danced around the room and out into the hallway. No one had weapons drawn and they were all far too relaxed. Sam’s attention was brought back on the end of the world word.
”Only fools look for an end. Why would I choose you to survive Ragnarök? Why any of you? All you have done so far is make me ask for a third time now. I hate repeating myself. Release the researchers. All of them.” he folded his arms and continued, ”How are you worthy? Have you entered my halls? Have you seen the Rainbow bridge?” he asked glad he saw some movies recently revolving around the myths.
”Information comes at a cost.” he said tapping his patched eye. ”The events are already set in motion, it will happen on it’s own. You will do nothing here to delay it or speed it up.” Sam was getting tired of the theatrics and wished he didn’t tell Liz that he wouldn’t kill anyone. It could have been over already.

The icemancer nodded debating internally if he wanted to start off by sharing his own problems when he was a kid. Maybe not all of them but enough for the guy to get an understanding that his cross was pretty hefty as well.
”You got it.” Sam said sipping his drink as well but using his powers a bit to prevent scalding his tongue from the hot liquid. Sam grabbed the muffins and trailed out after him. ”See you next time, thanks again!” he called out so all the baristas heard him. They returned with a wave and Sam exited the door.
They weren’t in meeting anymore so they didn’t have to share but it was important for Sam to build a trusting relationship with his new buddy. ”So Rex.” Sam said clearing his throat and looking around trying not to make this any less awkward for a ‘forced’ interaction.
”What do you do for fun?” he asked curiously. ”Hobbies, interests? Stuff to keep your mind occupied?” he asked sipping, ”I found it’s easier to not turn to the bottle if you’re constantly busy.”

The man shuddered, he didn’t know if he was cold or it was something else but he kept the information to himself. Sam was supposed to bond with the man. It was for trust so they could rely on each other when one of them was stumbling and they needed someone not to judge their decisions. Sam kept his eye forward. If it was important Rex would open up about it at a later time.
Rex took his coffee like Sam did. Good something else they could bond over. It made sense, you’d need a pick me up before running into a burning building.
Kelly walked off to grab the drinks and seemed almost bubbly as she poured them. Sam ignored it and focused on Rex who started talking about the other groups. They were paired up meaning the one who paired them could tell enough that they were similar.
”Yeah had to cycle through a few of them. Some of the meetings I went to weren’t the most supportive for anyone with abilities.” he said shaking his head, ”Even saved two of them before realizing we were all in the same meeting.” he shook his head, they were bigots. Sam didn’t' want to elaborate. They weren’t the best people and that was one of the many reasons he questioned his actions.
”More first responders, they’ve gone through a bit more of what we deal with.” he nodded his head as the coffees found their way to the counter along with a box of muffins. ”Kelly... I didn’t order this.” he said looking to the box and smirking. First time she had done it but the other two baristas waved to them, “I’d be a fool not to thank you properly, you saved our lives from that idiot who thought this place had a ton of money.”
There was a moment where Sam was about to refuse, he wasn’t really a muffin kind of guy but knew if Rex didn’t want them someone at the mansion would. ”It wasn’t that big of a deal. But okay.” he didn’t want to argue and when Kelly walked away Sam took it as he didn’t have to pay for anything either. Which to him was just silly so he reached into his wallet and overpaid for everything in the form of a tip. Placing it in the jar Sam handed Rex his coffee and then grabbed the box of muffins and his drink. ”Grab a seat or you prefer to walk around?”

The idea of going into the unknown structure with this many well armed guards around wasn’t normally his idea of a mission. There would be less of them, and he’d already be in the building by now. Liz stated ‘no killing’ meaning his usual methods for rescue was off the table, so he continued to play the part of ‘All-father’ just to see where things would lead him. If they did try to capture him, there would be several signs for Liz which also meant that the lines of communication to the mansion would be open. There was enough skill on the team that they’d recover everyone who was still alive.
”Very well.” Sam said following Shultz. Both knew how quickly Sam or ‘Odin’ could take down this many people. They were closer and didn’t have a helicopter. The icemancer was confident he could beat his old record if he needed to.
As they walked Sam kept his head forward but his eye swiveled around making a mental map of the building making sure to note each room and everything he could see inside. They passed a room with some men and women who were preforming some kind of group calisthenics. The echoing of the boots wasn’t lost on Sam, however drown out as he tried to hear everything he could as well. Whatever he couldn’t see or hear he did his best to ‘feel’ as a chill followed him down the hallways till they reached the ‘bosses’ room. It was obvious by the wall of guards that had been blocking most of his exits. All of them were well armed and ready for a fight.
Sam needed answers. Their comm room and where the hostages were. Those were his immediate concerns so they’d have to hold off on fighting him. For now.
The door opened and Sam sent a chill into the room. A warning. He was supposed to be some all powerful deity after all and from the ‘one’ he met it was clear they were dramatic. Sam strode into the room, his armor still covering his body, cold exuded from him.
”You want my spear?” Sam asked curiously looking around to see if anything in the room would stand out to him. Locations mainly, maybe they were global and this was only a small group. They seemed to be well funded. They used to have a helicopter. ”All for Ragnarök?” he asked wishing he had the birds with them. They were better at selling the story.
”I want the team of researchers. One of them owes me a debt I’ve come to collect on.” he said arrogantly trying his best to channel someone with a superiority complex. It wasn’t a request.
Sam out of habit with meeting any potential ‘puppet master’ refused to make eye contact with the man. Just in case.

Drill and sword rose up to meet his blade as it came down, the purple sword faded and he reacted in kind focusing on the drill and Aura as the sword blinked back into existence past his defenses. ”****” was all the icemancer could muster as his sword was already blocking the drill.
Sam leaned into to the attack so she couldn’t get the force behind her strike that she was going for, ice had already started to reform on body where the sword was going to impact. It seemed Aura had become more unpredictable while being controlled by these magic users.
The purple blade caught his ice and Sam rolled breaking free from the exchange best he could while feeling for everyone else now that the dust was starting to settle. There were people standing around still trying to figure out what had happened and then there was Zek... no one else would be eating now except for him. Sam had been called ‘liability’ before when it came to his lack of safety during missions.
Zek took his ‘problem’ to a whole other level. ”Zek! Stop eating and capture her!” Sam shouted taking an iced overhand and pushing away from the purple cladded warrior. Avoiding a strike to her head with his frozen sword.
They were there to rescue, not kill. Well.. X-Men didn’t kill, this however wasn’t a mission. This was off the books, where Sam excelled, however with Shin flying the jet and Lenna being a student he knew he had to restrain himself. Lenna wanted her alive and was willing to come here by herself to do it. If the kid was X-Men material, he wanted to see it happen. Maybe he found a new recruit?
There was shouting from above, Sam took a second and glanced upwards with his one eye and then shout a beam of blue upwards causing a sheet of ice to form where the cave in happened. There weren’t going to be reinforcements!

There were no birds in the sky, none to tell him where to go next. The buildings weren’t tall enough for a jammer, meaning it was more than likely hidden in the other buildings. Which meant Sam had to check them all. Too bad they weren’t as obvious as the anti-aircraft cannons. Luckily those were off the table for now. Meaning if they did get word out someone would come to Liz’s rescue if he was captured or killed. Both weren’t something he was looking forward to.
Hearing the conversation in the radio behind him he slowed his breath and waited feeling the warm bodies near him come to life as they exited the buildings. Visibility was still low meaning they were the only ones that couldn’t' see him that well. Sam slowed the frozen fog and brought it down a bit so others could see him. ”Tell them to lower their weapons. I’d rather not kill unless I have to. A request has been made by my... assistant?” did Odin have an assistant? A request to stop him from killing anyone.
”Shultz. You have done well.” was all Sam offered as he folded his arms as the gunman surrounded him. ”I guess I’m going to find the communications room.” Schultz heard it but said nothing. Sam was talking to Elizabeth. ”Keep an eye on Bruno for me. He gets needy if I’m not around for a bit.”
The gunman surrounded Sam and aimed their weapons shouting at him to lower his arms. Sam didn’t budge and waited as Schultz steeped in front of Sam and then pointed to his armor and the snow below them. It was in another language but the message was clear as a few other gunman dropped to a knee.
Maybe Sam should keep the name. He was a fan of the respect it commanded. ”Now, where is my spear?” he asked wanting to get a tour of the facility. One two find the comms room, and two to find everyone that went missing.

”That sounded very parental of you.” Sam smirked, wondering what kind of constructive outlets a kid like Eve needed. She was smarter than most adults, which meant she was smarter than Sam. He only had the flying and training sessions to coax her into not setting things on fire. Maybe she’d be interested in climbing?
”Oh?” Sam asked sipping his glass knowing he’d regret all the drinking in the morning. ”Pretty sure she’s breaking curfew.” Sam didn’t care what she did when she was at the mansion after hours as long as she wasn’t putting herself or anyone else in danger. If she was out of the mansion this late at night... well Sam was responsible for her and had to clean up any mess she left behind.
”Welp, lets go pick up my kid.” he said making sure not to say ‘our’ kid. He knew the idea was still too much for Cora and given that they were drinking he didn’t want to make the situation any worse. He was too tired to deal with anything else. Antartica took a lot out of him.
Standing up signaling he and Cora were done there the bartended went for the bottle that Sam quickly snagged from the bar top and then nodded his head. ”I’ll pay for this tomorrow.” he said knowing he’d be getting an earful from not only his staff but everyone who saw him drinking. A few of the regulars also happened to be in his A.A. meetings.
”How mad should I be with her?” Sam asked looking to Cora wanting her to lead the way.

The pain Rex described was all too familiar with the icemancer, any chance he got he’d avoid talking about it. This time was different though. This was part of the healing process for both of them. They made a commitment to be there so might as well put it all to work. ”Always comes back the next day.” he nodded his head in agreement. Sometimes it was accompanied by a hangover if he wasn’t still drunk.
”Seems we are in the same boat.” chuckling at his response. Sam didn’t want to talk about it either but knew it was good for them. The program did work, you just needed someone to have your back. Someone who understood everything they were struggling with. Pain, the need to forget. To distract.
”Non-alcoholic of course.” Sam added with a chuckle. It was a bad joke, but it was one he heard by some of the more seasoned members here and thought it was good at breaking the ice. Rex grabbed his jacket, Sam didn’t being one so waited for him at the door patting a few people on the shoulder as he went acknowledging that he saw them and that he was proud of them for continuing with meetings. A few did the same as they left the building.
”Been to many other groups?” Sam asked as he pushed opened the door at let the brisk cold air hit him as he walked down the steps. Making sure to clear any ice that formed on the steps. It was clear nothing had been salted yet which was odd given the time of year. His hand twitched casing a sheet of black ice to crack on the side walk.
”This one is probably my favorite, less aggressive people. More willing to help and listen.” he explained as he walked next door to a small coffee shop. The bell above the door rung as they entered. The baristas lit up when Sam entered. A few weeks ago he stopped a potential robbery here. None of them let him forget about it. One of the younger girls squeaked and waved as she notified the other two baristas. Sam raised a hand waving in return.
”Evening, Kelly. How you guys doing tonight?” he asked giving her a second to respond before adding, ”I’ll take the usual and whatever my friend Rex here wants.”

“.... Lord... Odin.” the man said next to Sam, before Sam realized the man was talking to him. Oh yeah, he was supposed to be an ancient Norse god. Sam wasn’t the best actor but tried to play his part while shoving a hand on the man’s back to keep him, moving. ”What?” he asked as one of the taller buildings was pointed out to him. There was a spot light and a lone figure sitting atop it. Sam couldn’t imagine the windchill off the ground for someone effected by the cold.
”Thank you.” he was warning Sam. Maybe this guy wasn’t so bad after all. Even if he wanted the end of the world.
Liz chimed in shortly after confirming what was pointed out to him. His lone eye looked forward as the snow under their feet lifted them onto a slide. Sam skated along dragging the former gunman with him.
Tapping his ear, ”Hold them back till I disable the guns. I want help to arrive should we need it. Can you locate the radio tower? No doubt they will be jamming long range transmissions.” that was the second thing he needed to destroy. Sam didn’t go directly towards the base, instead he cycled around it kicking up snow as he moved to hide him and the prisoner.
“For-give me lord Odin but I am cold.” he said before Sam focused on controlling the cold around them. It was a few seconds before he shivered a thank you but by the time that happened Sam was closing in on the guns. ”Stay close to me. Or you’ll die.” it wasn’t a threat or a promise. Just a fact. It was about to get very cold on the base and the main focus was the guns. Which put him between the ships and the rest of the base.
It took a few minutes and some more snow cover but Sam managed to disable the first one by lodging the barrel with ice and snow. The man closest to the gun didn’t realize until Sam was already behind him. It was a quick drop but the cover was enough to hide him after. Sam made a mental note to find everyone after, Liz didn’t want anyone to die.
The second anti aircraft gun was a little better manned and he only managed to dispose of two of them before the third one shot a flare into the air. Sam had to sever his thermal vision for a moment before shouting, ”About to get real here, send in the eyes!” the flare went up then came down as a siren started to blare around the base.
“My god!” the hostage said behind him before Sam tossed him a radio. ”Serve you’re purpose. Tell them it was a misfire!” Sam shouted before leaping to the man who shot the flare and slamming him to the ground. Ice crawled over his body as he did so. The antiaircraft also shifted as the snow under it lifted it till it tipped over. There. No more anti aircrafts.

It had been a while since Sam had seen a priest. The last one healed him from death and that was a few years ago. Maybe he should look into it again? Someone else to offer insight. Even if Sam wasn’t really a believer. Talking was supposed to help. His shrink however... well he had Gemma. That poor woman. ”One day at a time.” he said nodding his head best way to take it. Made it easier to not think about drinking. Every day was new and it was a fresh start. That was how Sam did it before.
”Often found myself trying to bargain with myself. ‘Did good today Sam, didn’t even think about it. You earned one drink.’” Sam shook his head, ”Had to end that pretty quickly though.” it wasn’t conducive to healing, to getting better and back to what he wanted to be his normal. ”That was before the program though.” he said nodding his head. Sam was glad he stayed with it all these years. It was easier to recover after fumbling.
”Lot to make up for.” he said releasing the handshake and placing the hand back at his side. ”Didn’t have the easiest life growing up. Made a lot of bad decisions along the way.” he said reflecting on his past, ”I’ve got a lot to make up for.” he said trying to down play the work he had done. He had no idea what the scales were tipped at now but knew he wanted to keep helping people. For all the things he had done.
”Got the power, might as well put it to good use.” Sam said finally before thumbing towards the door. ”You want to continue this awkward conversation over a cup of coffee? Place next door does a pretty good job.” he said not sure how to proceed. He felt like he needed to get to know his new sponsor better.

”You scout out the munitions for starters with the birds. You and the boys stay.” he looked to Bruno and waited for some confirmation before doing his own looking. There was a set of binoculars he found in the vehicle. Even with the one eye Sam had a feeling what to expect. It was going to be a pretty simple base, well one with antiaircraft weapons. ”Then you notify me if there is any trouble. Anywhere.”
He heard a low sigh from Bruno knowing that it was because he was leaving again. A hand reached behind him and he pet his best friend before continuing, ”Our new friend is going to walk me right into base. If they shoot at us well. I’ll improvise from there. Without killing.” he added and rolled his eye. He needed the subject to be beaten to death so at least he remembered. X-Men don’t kill. Something he found himself saying often. The more he said it the less he felt like he belonged on the team.
“They will no doubt shoot at us.” the nervous German said behind him in between the two dogs ”Well you best be convincing then huh?” Sam said opening the door. ”This is a good as spot as any. Lord Odin waits for no man, hurry up.” maybe he’d keep the name.
Tapping his ear piece and looked to Liz, ”You run at first sight of trouble, get to the Jet and call for backup.” it was an order. She wasn’t on the team yet but she needed to listen. Liz was a good teacher and a better person and he didn’t want to deprive the school of one of their best. He on the other hand, well he was raised for this. This would have been a Monday back in the day, and he hated Mondays.
Ice armor formed as he touched down on the cold ground his thermal vision already expanding outwards. Sam waited for the hostage and tapped him on the back, ”Let’s go see the puppet master.”
