The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Probably gullible. Uh huh. Aiden's expression? Totally not impressed, and not improving as Persi continued. "Grow up. If you haven't gone around making other people's lives miserable or difficult, you haven't been sinning." Persi was younger than him, wasn't he? By a little bit? Not enough to excuse him. not one bit.
"He'd have to be the ultimate multitasker just to notice," Aiden snarked under his breath. "And are you sure He hasn't told any other priests? How many have you talked to about it?"

Well, the random guy wasn't openly violently anti-mutant, at least? Although that wasn't really the worst option, all things considered. But anyway. He nodded briefly but kept an eye on the Ryan-person, just in case he gave some sign that might lead to events detrimental to Ai's health.
The re-extension of the phone helped to calm Ai's still baby-routed nerves, and he did take it this time. Okay, if the pin was his location... Phew. He wasn't really that far at all. So if he went this way for this many blocks, then turned there... Yeah, that should do it. He glanced back at Ryan. "Thanks," he said quietly, handing the phone back.

Bad rule-breaker girl was staring at him.
Aiden's desire to scramble backwards, for once, had absolutely nothing to do with people staring at his mismatched eyes. He did have a bit of an answer for her question, though - he had been working on that very problem. Aiden Killian was a planner (and a panicker) rather than the sort to lead an impromptu reckless suicide charge. Mostly. He was apparently susceptible to heat-of-the-moment stuff too. But anyway.
"Depending on just how far it is - he's from the area, I know that - bus or cab to within a few blocks. I need an idea of the layout of the place and if they're actually there. That'll determine the rest of the strategy. Ideally he's okay enough to walk out himself and finally clued-in enough to do that so I don't have to break something over his idiotic head and drag him out." Aiden spoke quickly and quietly, with his stress showing through a bit but not overriding the fact that he had thought about this already.

Okay, random guy was being helpful. Aiden was still entirely wary, but knowing how to get where he was going would kind of be very helpful. And be just a little bit more likely to keep him alive than wandering around the city forever.
... Holding out the map-providing phone so Ai could see was not quite as helpful as handing the phone over for Aiden to use, even if he didn't really know how to use it and the other guy would probably worry about it being stolen if he was at all normal. Not that Aiden would even consider stealing it, but you know, standard paranoia. Strangers were liable to steal valuables put in their hands by other complete strangers.
... Was someone still a complete stranger if you knew their name? Because apparently this guy wasn't particularly keen to stay a stranger, if that were the case. Aiden blinked. "Er - Aiden. I'm trying to get back to my school." The mansion was publicly a school, right? What was it officially called again? Aiden tried to think. "I got dropped off before the person I was with remembered to tell me how to get there from here." And out of things to say to stall. And he still couldn't remember. Greeeaaat. "I can never remember the name - everyone just calls it the mansion - but if I know where here is I should be able to get back."

Was that healthy laughter or deranged laughter?
...
Had to be deranged. Aiden hadn't said anything funny. Should he slap Persi again? Sheesh, this was almost as bad as anything thus far in this stupid conversation. Where was Cafas anyway? An interruption would be very welcome.
Yeah, definitely deranged. Aiden levelled a refreshed glare at Persi. "No, that would be if you were more gullible and idiotic. If you were smart, you'd realize how idiotic all this is." Was Aiden seriously better at not hating himself for being a mutant despite only being one for a few months when Persi had known for years?
Oh dear stupid deranged misinterpreted God, his roommate really did have issues.
"And science doesn't have anything to say about the people interpreting what God thinks, who are automatically believed by so many-" he didn't say stupid, he didn't! "-people, regardless of what they say? Priests are human too, and subject to human failings. They aren't perfect, and they certainly aren't incapable of lying or making mistakes."

"Then you are clearly the smartest person on the planet."
That may not have been the most tactful thing to say. Oh well. If he recognized that it was tactless, even if it was after he said it, that was probably still an improvement. Cafas'd probably appreciate it.
A thought occurred to him. "Why would you consider scientific studies and then just accept whatever your priests say?" Even more improvement! His infantile tact-sense kicked in before he described what the priests were clearly saying. Or maybe that was his refusal to swear. Hm.

Persi might be successfully following him - kind of, or at least not falling on his face and dragging Ai down with him, so successfully enough - but that didn't solve the problem entirely.
Why did the crazy stabby murder person have to be able to grow spider legs?
Really. How was that at all fair.
He broke sideways, jerking Persi along behind him hard enough to wrench his own shoulder. The faint glimmerings of white weren't nearly enough to fix it. He'd have to rely on evasive manoeuvres. Basically, run like hell and try to lose the bone spider thing on corners. Getting into some populated building would probably help. He tried to drag Persi to where he could ideally talk to him and not spill the entire plan to Isabel. "Indoors," he hissed.

Blood loss. Remember the blood loss. At least remember it enough not to go over and smack Persi again. He didn't have blood to spare for bruising, no matter how much he deserved it.
He really deserved it. He deserved it just as much, if not more, as when Ai had actually hit him. That was before he remembered the blood loss, though, so he had to resist and not try to straighten out Persi's head quite right now. Leaving him deluded wasn't really an option either, of course, but Aiden was very limited by his roommate's condition.
And bullheaded idiocy. But mostly his condition.
"More like have a different amount of intelligence," Aiden muttered.

If Aiden were typing, he would have -facepalm-d on the spot. He didn't really feel like shoving his hands in his face, though, so he just stared at his incredibly idiotic roommate. "If the sin is what you do with it, then why is being a mutant automatically a sin?" How could Persi possibly not realize that he was using the other side's argument to try to prove his own deluded point? Wait - it must be the blood loss. Yeah, that made the most sense. Okay. If Persi was being stupid because he'd lost too much blood and his brain wasn't working properly, he shouldn't take it personally. He should cut the guy some slack.
But not enough for Persi to hang himself with, because clearly that would come back to haunt him in no time at all.
"It's not doing it on purpose, and I'll think of something else if it gets that bad." Like giving up on things and inviting the clearly-heat-loving thing into, say, a deep fryer. "It would still be a better reason to end up in the hospital than this." He eyed Persi pointedly.

"Cars are tools, like everything else. It's what use you put them to. I have swords. I don't use them to hurt people. Tools aren't inherently anything, even if they might be easier to put to one use than another." He shook his head. You could kill someone with a paperclip, at least theoretically, or a shield - shields made pretty effective weapons, actually - just as much as you could use weapons to keep yourself healthy or, say, repurpose them into some other tool. A bowstring could become a fishing line, with the bow itself forming the rod.
Persi's mood just wasn't a good one for learning or understanding anything. "If you start walking, or running, you can never stop. It's a matter of principle, but it isn't just theoretical." Aiden had run before, and he had since realized just how much harder it was to regain a forfeited position than it was to hold onto it. It wasn't just that your opponent, whoever or whatever that entity might be, had the chance to strengthen their hold. If you've lost before, you will always know it's possible to lose again, and be more likely to let yourself fail.

>>"Hey! You lost?"
Yup. Aiden did have enough pride not to admit it to a complete stranger immediately, even immediately after being dumped at the scene of a crime by his so-called teammate, who evidently thought a horrible screaming sac of wrinkly flesh was more worthwhile than him, but admitting it to himself? Done and done.
He wasn't going to leave a stranger talking to his back, though, both out of a desire to save his own skin from a potential assailant or whatever and because it would be really rude. The scrawny, tall man - young man, Aiden distantly corrected himself, though the stranger was definitely older than himself; he just didn't look to be into the 30+-settling-down-with-kids-and-a-career age bracket - didn't look particularly dangerous. Possibly completely insane, most likely dancing maniacally on the line between insane and unstable, but not too dangerous.
"I know where I've been but not how that relates to where I'm going," he said warily, trying to keep himself from letting the hilts of his batons support his palms. He would survive without the reassurance and he didn't want to look threatening to random weird guy.

He nodded faintly and tried to ignore the brother comment. "I used to drink it," he admitted, but shrugged a shoulder and gestured vaguely at the snow behind them. "Iced tea loses some of the appeal after a while, though, and it's only just grown cool enough that I don't have to worry about heat anymore." Except when someone jacked some of the heat in the mansion, like at the doors. Why did people do that? Walking from nice cold air into a huge blast of overheated dusty air was about as welcome as that warm air being the breath of an enormous hungry monster.
On second thought, it was less welcome. The monster might at least be interesting for a few moments.
Hm. Where did talking to random people fit into that scale? At the moment, Serena seemed less unwelcome than a slap of heat, but he wasn't yet convinced she beat out the theoretical monster's potential curiosity with her lack of physical intimidation. Other people probably had no chance at all.

She what.
Aiden blinked. Several times, really. Scratch the goody-two-shoes kid. Evidently he had just encountered one of the bad ones. And was grateful for it. He was going to spend way too much time thinking about this later.
Persi first, though.
He skittered out of the girl's way, somewhere between envy and horror naming itself home of his expression when he saw her very professional-looking tools. He wasn't entirely sure what the one she shoved in first was supposed to do, but when she put it away and didn't use another immediately he twitched a little.
Rule-breaker kid probably didn't really care what he was going to do, but might be looking for leverage to force him to cover for her on whatever trick it was she was headed. Well, whether he succeeded or failed this story was undoubtedly going to get out. Letting someone think he didn't want anyone to ever know, rather than just not know yet clashed with his sense of morality, but it was the best option.
"I need someone's address," he said simply. "His parents made him think the only way to fix being a mutant was to kill himself, and I don't think they knew he was a mutant yet. Now they have him back."

Aiden stilled as soon as the mature-not-mature voice rang out in the dim hallway. He might be stressed out of his bloody mind - and with no shortage of excellent rationale for the state - but he wasn't quite oblivious enough to fail to notice that the speaker didn't sound as old as the tone and words tried to suggest.
Goody-two-shoes kid was not much better.
He slowly palmed his tools and glanced sideways, a disheveled fence of hair hanging in the way and dividing the youngish girl into narrow bands. Something tugged and tingled at the back of his mind, but he couldn't place her. He'd probably just passed her in the halls at some point, since they clearly both lived in the same place.
So, what reaction to take? Flee? He couldn't trust that he could outrun her, given the range of invisible mutations she could well have, but if she didn't have something related to pursuit then he probably could. If she reported him he would be rather recognizable, but his reputation may or may not protect him.
Or he could tell her the truth and hope for her mercy.
Mercy.
From a stranger.
Aiden had never met a merciful kid. Then again, he hadn't really met a merciful anyone before he had arrived here nearly a year before, though he wasn't entirely sure he would actually apply 'merciful' to anyone he did know here. 'Not cruel' and 'not bad,' sure. Merciful was another label altogether.
Was saving Persi worth risking the kid's reaction? It was worth this pathetic attempt to break into the office. A roll of the dice, and if need be he could still make a run for it. "Since my mutation doesn't protect people from idiots crazy enough to convince people to kill themselves or open doors, yes. Yes I am." And running on three... two...
