The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Taxi's better. I don't want to get more people involved than necessary." More people involved meant more chance something would go wrong, someone would get hurt - no. Keep it as small as possible. Quick and quiet. "We leave as soon as one gets here." To that end, he turned towards the phone on the desk and pulled a scrap of paper from his pocket; he'd already looked up a cab company's number. Aiden planned, see.
Of course, taxis needed to be paid. Aiden had, fortunately, thought of that, and had pulled another desperate scrounging spree. It had worked for bus fare, and with a little more creativity (and territory; he didn't limit himself to the mansion this time) he had found enough to probably pay for a cab.
He hesitated before touching the phone, though. He wasn't a fan of them, and if he had a co-conspirator... He turned to Kaitlyn. "You want to call?"

Awkward situations were awkward. Aiden still wasn't anywhere near used to have a roommate as extroverted as Jude, so even if he weren't still trying to sort out so much other stuff in his head he would have been wandering the mansion at odd hours.
He could believe that Persi's family was deranged enough to try to kill him. There was plenty of compelling evidence leading up to that realization. He could even accept that the girl who had ended up helping him had connections with less than pleasant people. No, the weird part was that his parents weren't really all that bothered by him being a mutant.
Weird, wasn't it?
Aiden was mostly trying to just not think about it all the time. He technically succeeded, as there were occasional moments where he thought about something else instead. Like right now. He was thinking that he was quite hungry, despite the unusual hour, except the last time he'd gone in there he'd noticed some scratches. Some too fresh for comfort scratches. That meant a certain someone who so liked trying to kill Persi, and had somehow ended up as a cat, if the rumours and gouges were to be believed, was still hanging around.
That did not relax him at all. He did need food, though, so he poked his head in.
... Strange person looked familiar but definitely wasn't Isabel, unless she somehow now had a humanoid-but-not-bone-queen-Isabel form. Should be safe enough. He nodded politely on his way to the fridge. Food... food. Hah! It was still there. There was a container in the back corner that contained cooked chicken. He pulled out a leg and tucked the container back where it belonged.
... Strange person was definitely familiar. "...Er, hi," he said.

"Because it's private information and they don't want random people getting into it?" Really. Why wouldn't they lock them? Most of the filing cabinets Aiden had ever seen came with locks. If you had locks and stored private information behind them, why would you not lock the locks? It was just common sense.
"P-E-R-S-I. He's weird like that." He joined Kait to flip through the files. No, no, no... Lookit that! He tugged a file free and flipped it open. Address... address... Wow. The file actually had one. He grabbed the nearest pen and scrawled it on the back of his hand. "Right... now to get there."

Aiden appreciated having a bit of space while he finished setting out his belongings. He plugged in the computer but didn't turn it on, and left his books in stacks on the desk while he knocked the box flat and slid it under the bed. Keeping busy didn't keep him from hearing or answering Jude, however.
"No, they're just... sentimental." And Aiden could be very possessive, even if he didn't set it to music and blast it out of every speaker around. "They did help me get in with the Xs, though." And through most of his previous school years; having something complex and physical to focus on helped a great deal with stress, even though trying to keep it private often added a whole new layer of anxiety. Jude hardly needed to know that, though. Aiden sighed.
And then winced. Was he that unpleasant to be around? "Sorry. I'm just, well, stuff hasn't exactly been relaxing lately. I don't want to kick you out of your room. I'll head out when I'm done."

Oh, what a horror it would be to have more solitude. Too much of a good thing wasn't such a good thing, though. Aiden did know that, even if he would almost invariably cling with all his might to solitude over socialization.
Masque seemed less certain about it, though. Aiden was about to agree and continue on his way, but Masque definitely looked less than happy. He hesitated. He had nothing to offer the older mutant, as far as he knew, and he didn't have the social skills to work out either what he could do or even what was really going on. Stay and make things awkward on the off chance he might be able to fix... something, or take the opening and go home.
Yeah, he had no clue what to do. Maybe next time this sort of thing came up he would be able to handle it better. For now, though, he just nodded politely. "See you around," he said neutrally, and headed off through the snow again.

Oh. "Just don't move fast and try to avoid heat." Aiden shrugged. "I make snow if I move enough, and I don't get cold but I do overheat." The need for a roommate with a sufficiently neutral mutation was pretty clear when Jude put it like that. "Nothing particularly drastic." At least in winter. They might have to shuffle around again come summer, but that was plenty far in the future.
Psychic..?
...
That thought was filed away under Best Not to Look. And locked. "Nothing interesting," he said, a bit shortly. He didn't have much time to worry about it, though, instead switching to a slight eye twitch - fortunately not in Jude's direction, since Aiden happened to be turned away and looking down at the time. "Yes. No, they aren't sharp, and I don't let people touch them." It was awkward enough letting people see them. He'd let Cafas handle them, but Cafas was, well, Cafas. X-Man and trainer and decent guy. He slid the swords under the bed, followed by a couple of worn sketchbooks, but set the batons on the bed for the time being.

Lame? What? "No - I just -" Aiden shut up for a moment. "I wasn't expecting it." Logically, if that was his real response to unexpected things... well. He should probably try to fix that before, say, Cafas found out. Or it got someone killed. That wouldn't be good either. He'd think about how little he wanted to actually go about fixing it later. Much later.
Handshake. Sure. Standard protocol and all. At least with outgoing people.
Was he really stuck with an extrovert this time?
"Aiden Killian." It was unusual enough for Aiden to give out his last name; he definitely wasn't going to hand out his middle name just because his new roommate did. Plus it wasn't exactly a common name, though Jude's sounded foreign so it probably would be an issue, but... whatever. Being stared at was weird enough. If it distracted Jude, though...
Oh good he stopped. "It's no problem," Aiden said quickly. Upside to all that weight training, he supposed. He stooped to pick up his box - computers and books buried at the bottom, clothes piled on top, the tips of his sword sheathes and batons poking out of the corners - and lifted it without strain. He stepped hesitantly into the room, and then set the box beside the bed. "So... er... They said something about you looking for a new roommate for a while?" he asked after a few moments as he started to put clothes away. Most of his stuff was fairly worn, but his uniform was close to new.

What.
Just.... what.
Aiden's disbelief didn't even let him think it as a question. He just stared and blinked and couldn't think properly. Or at all, really. Just... what.
Sapience eventually returned, somewhere around the time something hit him in the face. Muscle reactions, check. Slow, but check. He nearly punched himself in the face trying to catch the thing, but still. Okay. What was...
What.
...
If it weren't for the disturbingly Hawaiian decor, Aiden probably would have turned around and gone right back to Persi. On the spot. Regardless of the paperwork and explaining that would be required. The fake flower thing fit in with the rest, though, so Aiden just blinked a few more times. "Um. Hi."

There might have been a litany of wtfwtfwtfwtf running through Aiden's head. It might have been competing with we'regonnadie and don'twannadie, with the occasional appearance of such noteworthy guests as notheragain and whyme.
All of those paled in comparison to the whattodo train. That one was the one in charge, and a good thing too; the rest would have had Aiden either frozen on the spot (lethal in very short order, he imagined all too well) or bolting and leaving Persi to die. Not on his roommate's birthday, of all days. Really. Wouldn't that be awkward? I dragged my roommate out of a safe place for a birthday present no one else would understand, and then he died and I just kind of left him there.
The sound behind him, too terrifying for him to look, shifted to a sort of unstable scraping. That seemed noteworthy in a useless sort of way. His idea to get inside still seemed slightly less useless; buildings had doors and hallways and phones and people who could see the rather infamous crazy lady chasing them and call for appropriate help.
Aiden wasn't a violent person, but he wouldn't be particularly upset if Isabel took a couple of bullets to the brain. Ideally at least one would be redundant.

Well, if Persi kept on like this, Aiden was probably going to start agreeing out loud that Persi was an annoying brat. An annoying, stubborn brat. "Exactly. We've been over it." He rolled his eyes. Sheesh.
Somehow, Aiden doubted Persi had gone very far afield in his search. "Uh huh. So what, two?" The number didn't matter, and there might have been a tiny bit of sarcasm in his tone. Just a tiny bit. Not too much, of course; Aiden was not a particularly sarcastic person. "Knows and has the time to act are two different things."

Aiden blinked. Ryan thought it was cool, and something about the phrasing led Aiden to wonder if the guy were actually a mutant (plenty of them didn't have anything visible to show most of the time, or were disguiseable like Aiden) or supporter. That was... reassuring. He didn't relax much, though. You never really knew about people, after all. His wariness was entirely warranted.
And was going to be maintained. "Yes, thank you." Freeeeeeeeedom. And time to scurry away to that freedom without looking like it, because really./

Why? "Demands on my time and required exercise, mostly. Harder to hole up all the time." And by next summer, he wouldn't be quite as useless a trainee as he was now. More experience, legally able to do more things, no longer a high school student... Yeah. Chances were he'd have a ton more to do and could well be even more susceptible to heat, from what he'd heard (vaguely) about how often mutations were a bit unstable. Especially following their initial emergence. Aiden was definitely hoping his had sorted everything out in the one go.
"Oh. Well, that's good." Yes. It was good that he didn't mess up some random person's schedule as well as run into them. Very good. Almost as good as letting Masque go on his way would be.

Oh. "He didn't really talk about it until afterwards, and even then it wasn't exactly intentionally." A bit indirectly, and certainly not my parents are evil and stupid and they made my life suck. Actually, that would have been an improvement, since Persi would have had to realize how idiotic his family was in order to even think it. "But even a roommate with his head in the ground picks up on some things, I suppose. And I'm Aiden."
He wished she hadn't turned the light on. What if someone came by? Now they were announcing their presence to anyone who might stumble past!
... although he could now see that the filing cabinets each had a lock and a label. He had no clue what Persi's last name was, but he suspected the school wouldn't require the same sort of official identification as a human institution. He found the cabinet with the Ps and gestured Kaitlyn over.

Had she really not clued in or heard about Persi's attempted suicide? And she thought it would be a good idea to tag along? This was definitely not a good idea. He should start thinking of ways to leave her b--
Ai shut up. He even shut up in his head for a while, before eventually muttering that she got the name wrong and Dragon Age was better anyway. In his head. He didn't want more facial scars. Or, you know, the pain of having his head shoved through a door. Into a door would be bad enough.
He stayed quiet until the door opened, hesitated, and then pushed himself to his feet to edge into the office while the girl was packing up her tools. Files with addresses. Filing cabinets? Those looked promising. He crept across the room, more than a little paranoid that he was going to set off some alarm.

Say what.
Well, this was awkward. He didn't want help, but he didn't want to have to do it alone. Would this girl be helpful at all? Did she have other useful skills beyond picking locks -
Wait, actual door? She hadn't actually picked a real lock before? Aiden rocked back, unimpressed. Wanna-be bad kid, more like. "Are you sure you're up for it? Persi tried knives and fire; I doubt his family's going to do less." He ran a hand through his hair. He had shoved everything he thought might be useful into his old backpack, from his batons to what medical supplies he could scrounge, and was ready to make a run for it as soon as he knew where he was going. His lack of weather-appropriate clothing ought to keep anyone who didn't know him from thinking he had any plans at all to go outside, and those who did know him would probably laugh at the thought that he would vanish into the night.
"What are you trying to do anyway?" he asked abruptly, the question slipping out before it occurred to him that it might not be well received. On second thought, if she were trying to do something nasty, it would be better to find out now, and have a chance at ditching her, than only find out in the middle of something critical and dangerous.
