The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

If it was possible, Shade's face contorted even more with rage. He was shaken like a rag doll before being cut again on his already bleeding neck. This lizard mutant was trying his nerves. Shade wondered how it would like his blade against its scaly neck. However, the shadow mutant kept his cool. Not like he had a choice as his attempted murder had landed him in a precarious situation.
"You wouldn't see me unless I wanted you to!" Shade shot back with more anger in his voice than was wise with a blade against his neck. He tried to calm himself as he knew the only way he was getting out of his situation was through persuasion; at least, it was until he was given an opening. All he had to do was to keep talking, something the imposter seemed to share with the late Syn.
"Oh you know me, I like to keep to myself." Shade cooed at the Syn skinned mutant before him. He would play her (if it was a her) game, for now.
"As for the why, lets just say I don't agree with the current management. I might be in the Order, but I will not be told what do to with by that...thing." It was the least disrespectful word Shade could think to use for his supposed leader. Although he might not win against Syn- wait, it wasn't Syn. Or was it? Shade did not know anymore. Either way, the shadow mutant was now more rehearsed in the use of language as a weapon. He might not be able to 'win' so to speak, but Shade could at least hold his own, for a while.
"Listen, if you are really Syn, then this is just a misunderstanding. So how about you call off your dog?"
Shade had to shift his attention again as the reptile-like monster re-positioned the death hold that he had on the shadow mutant. With the massive claw finally released from around his neck, Shade lifted his arms up and out in a sign of surrender. It was a position he hated to be in. He was so exposed and helpless that it almost felt like he was in actually pain.
"I understand." Shade said sourly. Although, his tone did not appear to have changed. Presently, the shadow mutant wanted nothing more than to slit the throats of the two before him while they slept. His usual smirk was replaced by a lip curling stare of pure hatred.
The shadow Orderling's head turned back in Syn's direction as she addressed him. When the dark queen spoke, a momentary look of doubt passed the visible parts of Shade's face. Was it possible that Syn was alive, and staying here before? Shade's mind raced through the possibilities that the information he had received was received was false. Well, it could have been. Shade had never actually seen Syn's lifeless body. He had just assumed like everyone else in the Sanctuary that she was indeed gone. But that then raised the question: if she hadn't been dead, where had she been? And more importantly, why had they been lied to? These were questions Shade needed answered before he could believe that this was the real Syn.
Shade snapped back to reality and the possibility of death just inches from his bleeding neck, his face quickly returning to its previous sinister state. The moment of doubt had only been for a moment. It would have been hard to see to the untrained eye. However, the shadow mutant had to again agree that this imposter, if it was an imposter, was very good. Doubt creeped back into Shade's mind, but he refused to allow it to change his outward appearance. Defiance was a better shield to show than doubt. Doubt would only undermine the small ground that Shade had left.
"If you are the real 'Syn', you would know I am loyal to you. I only striked to protect yo- Syn's- image. I could not allow an imposter to survive. It would destroy the foundations of the Sanctuary. And possibly the Order as well."The shadow mutant said, halfway lying. A lot had changed since the last time the two had met. Shade worked more for himself now than the Order. If it came down to it that Syn's death greatly benefited him, Shade very well might assassinate the dark queen. But presently, he was not in a position to do that. And it was much more beneficial to play up his love for the Sanctuary as it might save his life tonight.
Grim leaned forward off of the back of his chair that he had been resting against in order to receive the piece of paper that led all the information he would need for his future employment. It was weird how his night had started with him taking on what appeared to be just a ruddy drunk and now, here he was, getting a new job. And a better job! The shadow mutant had to think for moment as he tried to add up what he usually made at the bar.
"About a hundred, most of it was from the bartender's tips though. They threw us some when we take care of any rough customers."
Grim took another swig from his liquor, finishing it off. He placed it back on the table with a sigh.
Shade knew he was about to die. He was trapped. Trapped in the light and trapped in the claws of some horrible beast. However, just when he had thought he had breathed his last breath on this earth, the clawed hand relaxed just enough to allow air into the shadow mutant lungs. His breath came in gulps as oxygen flooded back to his depleted tissues and the numbness in his extremities faded away. The sparkling lights disappeared from his vision, allowing him to refocus of the two mutants before him.
The first thing that Shade's eyes were able to focus upon were the hundreds of sharp teeth lining the lizard beast's mouth. Each one looked razor sharp and capable of easily tearing his fragile flesh. However, the shadow mutant's gaze shifted to the more pertinent threat in front of him. Shade had to admit that this shape shifter was good, damn good. Maybe they had known the dark queen, because they were able to get even the very small details right, like the facial expressions and the way she stood. It was like a spitting image of Syn standing before him. But it was not possible. She was dead, killed during the defense of then King Pharmaceuticals.
"Who are you? And why do you look like Syn?" Shade asked, his voice dripping with maliciousness. His hands were still working at the claws around his neck, but he was not struggling anymore. Although Shade could breathe now, he was still trapped, and he hadn't that feeling. It made him feel claustrophobic, like he would never get out of his situation. Like he would be stuck in the claws of this freak of nature for the remainder of his life.
Grim's face contorted into a sneer when he witnessed the lizardman deflect his blade. This mutant was faster than Grim gave him credit for...well, maybe not. The second blade had struck home on his opponent's upper arm. That would at least slow him down...hopefully. Another knife slid into Grim's hand as he prepared to move into another shadow. But then a wall exploded.
The blast was violet enough to pepper the shadow mutant with rubble. He would probably have a few bruises from the larger pieces. However, at the moment, he was more concerned about his hearing. There was a loud constant ringing in his right ear. He couldn't hear anything with his left. Literally, nothing. Reaching up to check it, Grim's hand came away bloody. He was lucky that he wasn't knocked off his feet.
Dust from the vaporized bricks and cement made Grim's vision cloudy. However, he could tell who the figure, standing on the other side of the wall was from her silhouette.
"I told you to wait for the signal!" Shade coughed out, a little too loudly due to his hearing lost. However, the Orderling's attention was snapped back to the real trouble in the room when he heard a woman's voice, (barely) over the ringing in his ears. The X-men were already gearing up for the fight.
"I'll take the shiny one and the lizard. You want the potter?" Shade said, taking a quick glance at Kaitlyn. However, it was enough time for the malachite mutant to destroy the floor beneath him. Shade staggered back, trying to avoid falling into the growing crevice forming in the ground. However, the collapsing floor caught up to him and brought him down too into the dark abyss before the roof began to cave in and follow the shadow mutant into the growing hole in the floor.
Grim's immediate thought was he had made a mistake. He had taken the element of surprise, his only advantage, out of the equation. Now, the shadow Orderling was fighting two against one with all of his back-up located outside and out of reach. Wait, now make that three to one as the now-obvious X-men pushed his wrist and the silver covered man appeared like clock work outside the store. Grim had tangled with the silver man before on a couple of occasions. None of them had been pleasant for Grim. However, that was not his immediate threat. That was the lizard-like mutant in front of him who was brandishing two black nightsticks.
-“We are, I ssuggesst you take thiss opportunity to do the ssame.”
"Oh, no, no...no. I don't think anyone is leaving right now." Shade chided back. Although he might be outnumbered, it was night time after all, the perfect battle ground for the shadow mutant. The lights outside were interrupted from outside by sections of walls and pottery displayed in the window, creating a crisscross of light and dark areas that Grim could use to hide in. That was his current strategy for now.
Grim had not expected the civilian to attack first. The greenish black blade exploded towards him, but Shade ducked out of the way of the incoming attack by rolling to his right. He blinked invisible as he crossed a dark section before reappearing in the next lighted section. Rising, the shadow mutant's arm whipped forward, released the black blade. It was aimed towards his attacker. Shade's left hand reached across his body as another dagger slid out of the sleeve in his hoodie. He sent that one spinning towards the reptile mutant.
The store owner allowed the unknown visitor inside his house, which could only mean he trusted the man, at least to some degree. Grim knew his orders: destroy the store and if the owner happened to be inside at the time, he might just die as well. It wasn't the shadow mutant's personal style, but orders were orders. But this stranger interested the invisible mutant. He was offering the store owner protection. If so, Grim had a strong suspension that the man might be related to the X-men somehow, and if he could take out an X, then this job just got a lot more fun.
Using his shadow powers, Grim reached out and inside the house, searching for a possible 'jump' spot. He was rewarded with a whole host of locations in the dark store. Selected a spot near the edge of his limits, the shadow mutant winked out of the dimension for a split moment before reappearing in a dark corner in the back of the store, behind a large hand crafted pot. Obviously, it was one of the store owner's creations.
Once inside, Grim had a much better time of overhearing the men talking. The stranger seemed to have a strange lisp and a very disrespectful attitude towards the Order. The theory that the man might be an X was starting to look better. Of course, he could just be one of those pathetic mutants who looked for the NYPD. Grim had heard how they had hired themselves out like slaves, to be used by the humans to battle their own kind, such disgrace.
Obviously, the stranger seemed to be wanting to move the man before the Order showed up. It was too bad that they already had. And Grim couldn't just let them walk out the door. Stepping out from behind his hiding spot, the shadow mutant's invisibility faded.
"Going somewhere?" Grim asked, an evil grin spread across his face. He already had a black blade hidden in the folds of his sleeve, just waiting for the moment to strike. For the moment, Grim was more worried by the stranger. He doubted any pottery store owner could match his skills.
I have had my eye on NYC's Most Wanted list, and I would love to add Shade's name to the list. I have an idea about going after the families of New York City's finest. Maybe as retaliation from a police raid of the Sanctuary, searching for a certain individual or trying to find incriminating evidence.
It would be a great way to bring the law enforcers more into the scene and instantly create tension between the Order and the NYPD.
Calley, I am a fan of your idea about the Order leaders butting heads. It sounds like a reasonable answer, and I will gladly surrender my position of violent rebellion if this comes to pass.
Also, I would love to have a chat with you (in-character) whenever you have time. I believe we could have a great time discussing whose back is the best to stab.
Finally, if anyone would like to have a thread where a group of underlings casually discusses things that they are not happy about because of the Order. Fill free to hit me up. I will probably be starting one soon.
The evil grin that was plastered across his face was literally smacked right off of it. Grim had been so focused on the kill that the sudden strike from the lizard man caught him completely by surprise. His weapon of choice was knocked away. It skated across the ground for a moment before dissolving into smoke. The entire incident happened so fast that Grim had little time to react before the rough grip of clawed hands were grasping at his throat. He felt the pull of sharp nails against his skin as he tried to resist. The struggling only caused blood to trickle down his neck from the sharp claws.
Grim tried to break the reptile's grasp by chopping at the clawed hands with his arm, but it was a weak effort. He doubted it would do anything against his armor-plated opponent. Grim's other hand tried desperately to pull at the claws wrapped around his throat as he struggled to breathe. Looking back at his assassination attempt, the shadow mutant had to admit that it had not been very smart.
"Not...her..." Grim said, barely managing to form words without any air.
"She's...dead..." The shadow mutant's fingers were going numb from the lack of oxygen and lights were beginning to dance in his vision. Grim had killed too many people not to know when death was near. And his own death was closing in on him.
Grim tried to listen as best he could from his hiding place. However, the men were not talking nearly as loud as the shadow mutant would have liked. He was only able to catch little bits of dialogue from the conversation. From what he managed to pick up, Grim was able to piece together that the stranger was warning the owner about the coming danger.
But how could he know? The shadow mutant thought to himself. He hadn't be spotted, had he? Of course, he hadn't. He had been too careful, covered his tracks too well. There was no way the mutant had learned of the danger because of Grim's fault. Therefore, there must be a leak somewhere. The thought made Grim's lips curl. He hated informants.
However, there wasn't much he could do now. Grim would complete the job, regardless of the opposition. It was a good thing he had the other three prospective Orderlings to provide a distraction for Grim to do the reason work.
"Smell?" Grim asked. He took a moment as he tested the air with his nose. It smelled flowery, like his nose was led against a bouquet of roses. His reaction was to wrinkle his nose at the smell. Flowers were not his preference as a scent. However, it was enjoyable, compared to the usual dirt and grime his nose was used to.
Then he listened as she opened up about a past 'relationship'. It did not sound pleasant, almost like slavery. Anger rose in the pit of Grim's stomach. He never understood why mutants were subjected to such ill treatment. However, the shadow mutant did not want his anger to ruin the atmosphere so he pushed it back down.
"I only ask so that I will know how many heads I will have to crack each night." Grim replied with a grin. It was obviously a joke, and he gave a little chuckle as he took another slip of alcohol.
The shadow mutant sat down next to a homeless man who was noisily shaking a coffee can with a small amount of change rattling inside. With his dark hoodie and torn jeans, Grim did not look out of place beside hobo. However, his shoes gave them away. They were far too clean and were not falling to pieces like the rags the man next to him had wrapped around his scarred feet.
From the tiny bits of conversation Grim managed to hear, it did not appear the reptile was very smart. The imposter had been able to convince him that she was indeed the Evil Queen herself. And where she was going? She dodged that question with relative ease. Oh, Grim would love to know where she was going too, so he could dispatch with them as well, but he couldn't wait. Not with this large lizard about to spill the secrets of the Order to this fake.
Rising from his seat, the shadow mutant felt the rush of a kill approaching. His heart began to quicken and his breath became heavy. His muscles tensed as a dagger slid into his hand that was placed inside his jacket pocket. An evil grin spread across his face. She wouldn't even know he was approaching. His footsteps would be masked by the other late night patrons that were moving through the streets. Most of the them were avoiding the odd couple, giving them several feet of berth. However, Grim strolled straight towards them. He was two steps away.
"Sin..." Grim said in at a casual volume. He hoped to distract her. He hoped she would turn, exposing herself so he could drive his blade into her gut. Grim's hand slid out of the pocket of his jacket causing the dagger to glint in the light from the street lamp above.
Hey Lenna, I'm an assassin too! That doesn't mean we can't fight in our own way. You could even use your bombs as a power play in order to call a truce.
I really don't see how any of the more powerful mutants would just settle for a council. I would think it would be more a necessity for the fact that they come to a stalemate in their battle.
Maybe, I just have a lot of pinned up energy. I just want to fight! If not, I'll be down in the training room, blowing off steam.
And Syn, send me a note if you want any help with the newbies.
