The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

By all ends, it was turning out to be a great night for the shadow stalker. He had done his nightly rounds which had resulted in barely any violence. Unfortunately, Shade did have to draw his blade in anger that night, but it turned out to be simple misunderstanding. He didn't even have to the kill the guy, just had to give him a friendly reminder of who's territory he was living on. The worst part about his night was the friendly reminder had left the right sleeve of his hoodie soaked in blood. On his trip back, Shade had managed to remove most of the red liquid from his jacket, but he could still feel his jacket hardening as the blood, soaked into the sleeve, began to coagulate.
It was late enough that the night owl doubted anyone, but Lisa would still be up. Shade had began to believe that she might indeed be a mutant with her only skill being that she never needed to sleep. She never even looked tired. Ever.
Indeed, when Shade stepped through the front door, the perfect secretary gave her ever-proper "Good Morning, Shade!" followed by "You are home early. Do you need anything?"
"No." Shade replied shortly before disappearing into a shadow. He never needed anything, yet she always asked. Always.
From the foyer, it was only a hop, skip, and a 'jump' to his bedroom. Moving through the deserted areas, Shade was just about to his room when he 'ported into the Rec room. It was not deserted like the other places. The TV was on and allow he could not see the source of the voice, Shade could hear a younger voice talking from the other side of the couch.
- "...Ignorance is bliss after all."
"Shouldn't you be in bed?" Shade asked suddenly, as he stepped into the light casted by the glowing TV. The shadow mutant had yet to see the black animals curled up by the teenager.
After a rather eventful meeting with his former boss who he had presumed was dead and a quick trip to the infirmary, the shadow of a mutant had began to follow out the request that Syn had issued him.
It had been rather easy to tail the Adapted through the halls of the Sanctuary. Shade knew the building like the back of his hand along with all the available hiding spots. There was no need to follow his target exactly as he sudo-knew where she was going to show up. Even the couple of times that Shade was caught watching Lenna, he only played it off as discomfort at her presence. Although the Sanctuary was an easy place for Shade to tail the Adapted, it also did not provide the shadow mutant with any juicy information, besides maybe the fact that she might be closer to the human-sized roach that wandered through the halls than the other mutants.
So when the blond haired beauty appeared to be heading out, Shade quickly put down the magazine he had been fake-reading in the Foyer and quickly disappeared into a dark corner. He poked his head out of an alleyway for a quick glance of where his target was headed then quickly fell in with a group of people that were headed in the same direction as the Adapted. Shade hoped that he might find something useful to report back to Syn with out here. Even though it might be more suspicious, the shadow hoped it would be proved worth it. All he had to do was not get caught. And he was good at not getting caught.
"Their vision is somewhat limited to their surrounding area. It shouldn't be a problem for you or for me. And yes, it can be assumed there will be guns." Shade replied. He forgot to mention that there would definitely be guns there and lots of them with lots of bullets. But really, it shouldn't be a problem. Once Carrick cut the power, it would be like stealing candy from a newborn.
"As for the number of people, there will be two dropping off the money, but there will be lots more around the store. I place their number at around twenty." But really their numbers did not mean anything. They would be too worried about someone trying to attack them than guarding the money. They wouldn't even realize what Shade was doing until it was too late. Then the money would be gone and the mercenaries would be gone, because the owner would have no money to pay them. It was a good tactic. Make them believe they were being assaulted by the full force of the Order when in reality, their bank roll was being taken out.
"Well Griff, I'll just tell you it needs to be dark in order for my mutation to be of any use. And that is where you come in. All you have to do is fly around and cut the power to their lighting systems. Once out, I sneak in and grab the money. If you want to know more, I'll show you tomorrow night while we stake out the place."
Shade gave one small chuckle at the teenager. He was starting to get the little twerp. He kind of reminded Shade of himself when he was younger. Carefree, thinking nothing and no one could harm him, back before that night in the bank. His first kill. When he had accidentally drove his blade through the throat of the elderly guard, someone not even worth his time anymore.
"I need a distraction. And someone who can get out of situation as quick as me. Do you think you have what it takes?" Shade replied with a grin. He ignored the teen's second comment. It was surprising that the kid should say that for it was unlike Shade to speak more than needed. Maybe it had something to do with his new job. More socialization required more talking from the mutant so it was possible.
"Let's do this simple. I get half; you get half. Twenty-five Kay a'piece. No need to negotiate. The job is easy enough. Tomorrow night, there is going to be a drop off of fifty grand, cash, at a local joint. Simple smash and grab. The problem is that they know I'm on to them. And they know my mutation and its weaknesses. I just need you to take care of that pesky situation. After that, I will come in and assist the situation, grab the money, and get out of there before they know what happened. Sound like a plan?"
Shade failed to mention the reason for all the doe. The cash was actually a payment for protection money against the Order. The company had hired some mercenaries to try and discourage the mutant organization from trying to attack them. And of course, that was how they had learned of Shade's gift when he had first went to get the overdue payment, and they had tried to shoot him. Now, the place was crawling in lights and the shadow mutant was unable to get close enough to do any damage which was why Shade needed the teen's help.
"Great! Now, if you don't mind, I think I will have to excuse myself. I think a visit to Sebastian is in order." Shade said with a forced smile. He pushed himself up from his post. He had to grit his teeth from the pain when he put weight on his injured leg, the only outside sign being the tightening of jaw muscles, but he refused to give Aurion the pleasure of a groan. Shade gave Syn a little tip of his hood as he passed.
"I'll let you know more about this Adapted as soon as I have the information. And I'll see you later." He said, offering the last sentence to Aurion before taking a step back, allowing the shadows to swallow him up. Several minutes later, he was inside the Sanctuary and visiting the infirmary in order to ensure the recovery of his wounds. It appeared the lizard man had stabbed almost through to the bone, but with the miracle of mutant healing, Shade was fixed up quickly. The only reminder of the pain being a slight tingling feeling in his calf and a light pink mark on his skin.
I tried to give you as much as background information as possible. Let me know if you need anything else. Also, I changed my mission to a simple informing, because it would probably look bad if the Order just offed the news leader. This way, Shade and Sapphire can battle over keeping the guy alive and trying to kill him.
Robert Murdoch was not necessarily a bad person. In fact, to many of the educated folk that ran the large corporations around the area, he was seen as a rather good person. He was someone that was not afraid to stand up to the mutant threat. He was not afraid to "Tell it as it is", no matter what the masses believed. Mr. Murdoch only presented the facts to people. If they chose not to see the reason behind it, well then they were doomed to become slaves to the coming mutant empire. Mr. Murdoch was the chairman and a founder member of the news organization known as Wolf News. And Mr. Murdoch was who Shade had been sent here to see.
The Orderling had heard of the news station in passing mostly. As a whole, he had probably seen a total of fifteen minutes of the program. It was rather blatant about its thoughts of mutants. Mostly, they had to do with how many problems the more destructive mutants caused, or the mutant attacks around town that always seemed to be tied to the Order somehow. Well it was time to show them exactly what the Order could do, and how different it was from a random killing on the street. Also, it appeared with all the mutant news that they had forgot about a certain shadow mutant, and he wanted some face time!
The higher ups from the Order had passed the information down the chain that they wanted Mr. Murdoch to be silenced. Not necessarily killed, just shown what the Order could do is necessary. Of course, the shadow assassin had jumped at the idea. His infiltration skills were second to none. All he was to do was visit the elderly man and inform him very politely that the Order was aware of his movements and were not afraid to use force if necessary.
It seemed like a very easy task for the shadow mutant to accomplish in the dead of night. However, Shade also knew that things could very easily take a turn for the worse. The Orderling had staked out the place for the past couple of nights and discovered the flaws and gaps in the almost pathetic security system. With the last bit of sunlight vanishing below the horizon, Shade went to work.
It was that time of year where the weather was beginning to change as well as the leaves on the trees. Winter had begun to slowly stretch its cold fingers to the south, and her effects were beginning to show around the areas surrounding the Great Lakes.
It had been nearly two years since Garth had actually discovered that he turned invisible when it was dark outside. For how long he had been turning invisible, he did not know, along the realization did seem to explain several past events in his life. However, now that he had discovered his awesome power, he was beginning to take advantage of it. For example, he was now able to sneak out of the orphanage whenever he chose after lights out now. The caretaker was obvious suspicious of the random opening and closing of doors, but he was a superstition old bastard and thought the ghosts of the house were just acting up again. That left Garth with a safe way of getting in and out of the house without having to worry about the consequences. All he had to do was pile some pillows up under his covers and slip out invisibility.
Now, that Garth was outside. He had begun to explore the surrounding areas. The grounds of the orphanage led to a nearby neighborhood that was filled with lots of interesting secrets. Over the past two years, the invisible little teenager had been able to stockpile tons of interesting facts that would ruin more than reputations.
For example, take Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, happily married for seventeen years. However, they had no children. On the outside, they said they never wanted any children, but they had in fact been denied three times by the orphanage for adoption due to an unknown large amount of the debt that they had acquired. The truth was Mr. Thompson had in fact been tortured in the Korean War and was now a eunuch. The large amount of debt had resulted from a scam they had fallen victim to which was suppose to restore Mr. Thompson to full manhood again. However, it only left him with a serious infection and one less kidney. Garth had discovered the information by accidently stumbling across a heated argument they were engaged in over their financial troubles. It was definitely more information than he cared to hear.
Well we could #2 then lead into #1 or #3 if you so wished. As of late, Shade's threads are kind of just random encounters. I would like to kind of start a more defined progression of events if you would like to. It would help both of us have more threads.
Well the two do share more than darkness mutations in common. It appears that we are both assassins. We could use that angle somehow.
Just some suggestions:
1) Tag team- a third party hires both of them to take out a target/ group of targets. Shade hates working with someone as he sees them only as something that might get him caught
2) Same target- we could both independently go after a target and then meet up as we both try to take out the said target. Myself would never allow another assassin to take my kill so I would fight off Sapphire to get the kill.
3) Mr and Mrs. Smith- someone hires one or both of us to go after the other. This could occur depending on whether the other knows of the coming assassin or not.
Personally, I think #2 should be the kind of intro thread in which they battle each other so much that the target needs up slipping away. Then if you wish, we could have a follow up thread in which we play the #1 scenario in order to take out the missed target from before. Whether or not they succeed, there could be more threads to follow. Let me know what you think.
So not going to lie, I was stalking this profile a month or two ago, and I was wondering how our two mutations would work together. I'm a little full at the moment, but I'm sure I could fit you in if you would need a thread.
I will try to think of something, but if you have any ideas, just let me know.
It had only taken Shade a second of darkness in the black pit before he 'ported out of the collapsing building and onto the darkening street outside the shop. He used his invisibility as a tool for observance as the shadow mutant tried to figure out what exactly the Xmen's plans were. It appeared they were trying to take his victim into the safety of the mansion. Now, Shade couldn't just let them escape. They began to make their way towards an awaiting car. Well, that obviously had to go.
Shade sent several blades spinning from the shadows aiming for the tires of car. The first one pierced the front tire as the rest impacted into the side of the car in a sprayed pattern, slicing to the thin metal. The shadow mutant smiled at his work before quickly 'porting out of that shadow to another to avoid detection. Now, with their transportation taken care of, it was time to ensure no more people joined their little endeavor.
Que talking girlie on her cell phone. Shade positioned himself behind the chatty brunette then when she was close enough to his hiding spot, he launched himself at her hoping to knock her to the ground and separate her from her communication device.
Shade followed the black and red haired beauty as she walked across to the street to the parking lot, blinking in and out of visibility as they moved from light to dark and back again. He was trying as hard as he could to not show the pain in his calf, but he couldn't help but limp slightly as the blood ran down the back of his leg. Not to mention that the blood trickling down his neck might have mysterious disappeared after he had returned from one of his disappearing trips.
Once in the parking lot, he leaned up against a light post with a soft groan, listening to the answer to his question. He frowned at the information. He hated unknowns, especially when it could decide on whether he was exposed or not. Maybe even whether he would live or not. But his face quickly switched back to his evil grin as Syn explained his mission.
"I'll do it, but I want something out of it. I want in when you kill it!" Shade exclaimed. The shadow mutant already knew in his head that this was not going to be an easy mission. It had problems ridden all over it. However, the best thing was Shade was already an inside man so there would at least be a little bit of a reason why he was in the Sanctuary. If she left to meet someone and he was discovered, Shade would have a lot explaining to do. He gritted his teeth silently as he rolled these thoughts over in his head. There were so many uncertainties about this mission.
The young boy certainly did not know when it benefitted himself to keep his mouth shut. He should just turn and fly away, not land for another twenty and thrity miles. He should fly to some place he thought might offer him protection, like the X-mansion. Please fly to the X-mansion! Shade was dying for another chance to tangle with those petty mutants who thought powerful beings such as them should stoop down to the level of Homo sapiens. But the boy did not run. He talked, talked like he regarded Shade as old and out of his league.
"I will admit you were pretty sly. The wings were something new. Sort of got that Wow! factor that you would like when confusing a potential target. I have to hand it to you. It is the first time I have ever been picked, but you still don't see the big picture." Shade replied as he moved towards the winged mutant. He rested against an AC unit, propping his foot up on the intact pipe.
"You see, this isn't just about fun, as you put it. This is about making a living while having fun. You see this is just pocket change compared to real hits. What if I told you I was working on a hit right now for fifty grand? I just have one little problem..." Shade teased the youngster. He might actually have something that might interest the angel-looking mutant if he would be so interested. Or he could just be playing him, trying to get him where he wanted him in order for Shade to pluck the feathers off of those wings.
Things were getting hectic, which was probably the kidnappers plan: split up so they know they couldn't both be followed. Now, Shade had to make a decision, either stick with Ol' Handsome or tail the elaborate limousine. Each one had its pros and cons. Following the limousine could mean losing the tricky little fan and probably Xavia's bike as well, but following Lover Boy meant Shade might lose the limousine and its precious cargo. Decisions, decisions...
However, things came to a shrieking halt when another figure joined the scene. It took a moment for the invisible body guard to realize who was the new stranger. Of course, Nola! She would have all the necessary information to stage a kidnapping. Shade knew he didn't like that girl for some reason. And now, it seemed he would have to kill her too. She also had the meet up address to something called 'the lab'. Well, whatever it was, Shade was sure to find Xavia there. He had to get that note. He waited in the shadows as the bike sped off with the handsome fan, leaving poor little Nola all by herself.
Shade stepped out of the dark where he was safely invisible, causing his body to instantly appear. He cleared his throat roughly, using it as a way to reveal to the unsuspecting victim who was way overdressed for her own funeral.
"Something you care to tell me?" Shade asked in his most casual voice he could muster.
