The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

When he brought his lips to hers instead of her just kissing his cheek, she didn't shy away from it, but rather... Opened up to it. It was weird and nice and freaky at the same time. Hell, if he had lingered just a touch longer, it would have been more than just a little kiss. He would probably feel as she kind of... breathed into it, like it was fresh air to her. And there was no shame on her part. Not one single drop. Her eyes were half closed as she sat back in her chair and watched him openly. This was the part where she usually ran away, the part where letting someone in frightened her to pieces... Oh man, she kind of lost track of what she was thinking about.
But then he spoke and she gave that smile again, the one he evoked upon her face... Her cheeks were pleasantly flushed from the rush of the action, her lips slightly swollen. God, but she didn't want to be a lady right then. Or maybe that was pregnancy hormones kicking in and telling her to take him home with her and be reckless as all hell... He certainly knew how to kiss a girl, that was for sure.
And in the back of her throat was that sound she had made before. She was distracted by the thought of a second date with him. "I'd love to, if you want." Her voice was husky. She took a deep breath to get hold of herself and took another drink of the water. The waiter was approaching now. Good, that would give her a moment to clear the fog from her head... Oh, and not giggle like a little girl for what just happened.
Oh god. The scent of the formaldehyde was still heavy in the air after her last class of the day. How she had gotten through the class was beyond her, but she couldn't just stop and walk away while kids had freakin' scalpels in their grasps. Oh no... And she would be damned to hell if she puked in front of the kids. The last kid was still lingering in the room, cleaning up his mess and she just wanted to end the suffering she felt.
Then he left, and she followed behind him, biting her lip, sweat rolling off her forehead, face ashen, and calmly walked to the restroom. Making sure there was nobody in there, she went to the nearest stall and let loose until all she was doing was dry heaving. Good Lord, that smell had never bothered her so damn much. She had gave several shudders until she was sure the blasted over reactive sense of smell had calmed down, took care of the mess, and then sat down heavily on the stool to give herself a minute to recover from the violent reaction she had been holding back for over an hour.
Xavia got up after a spell and moved to the sink to splash water onto her face, shuddering a few times with some lingering gags, but there was nothing else in there to let loose. The kid was killing her, she thought. That was the most disgusting thing ever, and she would never be able to forget the smell that plastered itself to the walls of her nostrils and STAYED there. She would not go back into that classroom until the smell cleared. Nope. All kinds of nope!
She took several more deep breaths, then looked into the mirror to see that her mascara had run from tears forced from her eyes in the process. She produced some paper towel, wet it, and began to clean the make up from her face. She honestly did not notice if anyone had come in during the horror that just ensued, so someone could very well have heard every last bit of it. Hell, it had been loud enough to hear in the hallway. Her eyes were stuck on the mirror as she continued to dab the black streaks from her face so she could repair her make up.

Her eyes lifted to his face and she searched his gaze with her own, she felt his hand on hers and she gave an unwavering smile. "Artair... I told you t'at I did some soul searching, and t'is was one of the t'ings t'at popped up." A shoulder lifted gently. "Among many ot'er t'ings like Delilah's fat'er and t'is baby. I just... Get tired of feeling like I am swallowed up by t'ese t'ings, and I am tired of being frightened." She gave a laugh that wasn't of amusement, but rather, emotion. "I want to live... I want to stop hiding in my work, and I want to be happy."
She licked her lips and looked down to take a deep breath. "Sometimes you just have to hit a certain point before you realize what you miss out on because you are hiding yourself away from life. My point hit. Simple as t'at." And that was all she said about it. Her palm turned up again and she squeezed his hand, lifting her eyes, which were more of a golden color with the shift of her emotions. But this wasn't a bad or scary thing that just happened, it was her basically letting him know of the trust she had in him as even just a friend, if nothing else.
She moved some things out of the way, then leaned over the table to brush her lips lightly across his cheek as a means of thanks, if he let her. And when it came time to pull back, she hesitated for a few breaths, but then she sat back down (If he let her pull back). Just in time, too, for their drinks soon arrived. She thanked the man, then lifted the drink to her lips to sip. It was cold and refreshing.
"Not yet... I am in training." She did not say that it was slow going since life kept getting in the way. "I know Sam and Nate, but not familiar wit' everyone yet. I mostly spend my time wit' t'e children. I contributed money to t'e school for greenhouse and t'at is where I teach some classes." She gave a shrug, since it wasn't said in the bragging kind of way.
There was a long pause in her words as she gave him another look, this time as a person sizing another person up, delving into what might make them tick. So many questions he asked. There did not seem to be any interest in how he looked in general, not that he was hard on the eyes or anything, but once Xavia was interested in someone, she tended to stay loyal to the person she felt for until they gave her reason to do otherwise. It was just part of her nature.
She watched him for a moment as if picking him apart further, then gave a slight smile again... "Tell me more," she said, finally, intrigued by this Haven he spoke about. She was not quite there with the times as far as the haven went. Of course, one had to be around more often, and ask questions to know about things.

"No, I actually did quite the opposite for a time, to tell t'e trut' of matter," she said, letting her eyes move over him in more an assessment as to whether he was some kind of predator or not. "But t'at is a very long and boring story for someone wandering about Central Park during t'eir work day, hmm?" It wasn't said in an uppity way or anything, it was just matter of fact and she had this... natural way of communicating about her.
"But I did do part of one tour, and sometimes I sing at small venues when I have time. To be honest, I am a very busy woman most of t'e time and wish to find more time for relaxing." Speaking of relaxing, with him holding up his hands apologetically and such, she was able to relax in front of him. Not completely, but she wasn't jumpy like a doe as much.
"I teach at mansion, biology and botany. I decided long time ago I was not interested in fame or fortune." Too late for the latter, seeing as she had carried on the family business and was still profiting from that in the long term. No matter how much money she seemed to donate or give away, or help people with in general, she seemed to get more. But that was another topic for another time.

She was startled, but that was what happened when people came out of nowhere nearly yelling about stuff. Xavia pivoted quickly and peered at a pretty looking man. Yes. Pretty, as opposed to handsome. Mind you, he was handsome, but he had pretty qualities to his face that seemed much like an Adonis. Her brow lifted some and she gave an indifferent shrug, "I do sing in clubs but prefer not to anymore. It is tiresome work." Indeed, going on tour took a toll on her the first time she had been pregnant.
Her mouth curled into a slight smile, she was somewhat wary around the stranger, obviously still needing to work on how she felt around random men. It was a work in progress. She gave a look like a doe in head lights, her caramel eyes large as she regarded him with that look that told him she wasn't sure how to react to his presence nearing her large personal bubble without having gained permission first.
"Devon," she murmured, a neutral expression crossing over her pretty face. "I am Xavia," she said reluctantly, and only because her manners dictated she give her name since he gave his. If he cast a glance about, he might notice the flowers and some of the smaller plants in a certain radius, that included stray wildflowers that either got missed by mower or grew despite, leaning toward her like they hungered for her presence.
She was not normal. She was definitely not a blatantly mutated human being, but subtle things gave hints to her gifts; subtle things that had to do with the plant life around her. She pulled an earbud from her ear. Well, she might as well be nice to the guy. He wasn't doing anything stupid yet from what she could tell, he only scared the crap out of her in the meantime for long enough to have to swallow back the thumping of her heart that went into her throat.

Ahh, what a beautiful day, she thought as she walked through one of her favorite places... Despite her letting go of things that hurt, she couldn't let go of her working out in the park. Today she walked... The little peanut within her demanded that she refrain from running for now, and she would obey until she could get the okay to do so. Despite the baby having been conceived in violence, she could not feel right about doing something that could possibly terminate the pregnancy. Perhaps it stemmed from her days worshiping in the Catholic Church.
For now, Xavia would have to content herself with strolling leisurely through the winding paths of the big park, and did not mind for once because she was taking in the beauty that the day had to offer. Her freshly colored (non chemical dye, mind you), orange hair was in a french braid, keeping the heat from being unbearable on the back of her neck. She wore a tank top and some shorts, her well toned legs and arms exposed to the sun, and trainers comfortably ensconced her feet.
The thoughts upon her mind for the moment were about Artair, and she didn't know why other than she really liked him and felt more comfortable around him than she had felt toward anyone in years. Perhaps it was that he was safe, and that he was a nurturer even though he seemed to think different... Or perhaps it was the fact that he amused her so very much with his weirdness. Either way, she was glad she had a chance to get to know him better.
Hell, he made her sing... Of course, he didn't know this, but she had a song in the works about him. If I could tell you what you have done for me... She had, sort of told him... He just didn't know that he had helped to free her from the hurts and horrors of the past. She had changed for the better. Hell, she didn't feel like running and that said something right there. Whether they went on to go on more dates remained up in the air for the moment, and that was fine by her. She really liked him and would respect any choices he made.
For now, all she could do was walk and sing to the tune in her earbuds... And she sang well.

"Hoping t'is one tastes okay. Menu said it was Vegan, but t'e butter does make a difference and it is hard to find a good pastry wit'out it. I t'ink t'e food will be delicious, t'ough." She grinned as she replied to the first part. She waited patiently and quietly for him to finish ordering himself a drink, and found herself mildly surprised at him choosing not to have wine. She was not going to ask if it was because of her and the baby, especially since it was still hard to talk about and she wanted to not feel like an overly emotional lady just for asking a simple question.
"All of it sounds good. I look forward to trying t'ese t'ings." Xavia nodded and relaxed. The chair was nice and comfortable, the atmosphere in the restaurant was nice, and there was a very attentive and nice guy sitting across from her, making sure to point out different things and offering to share something he seemed to very much enjoy. She was enjoying this dating thing so far and found herself hoping the night would end with him at least asking for another, if nothing else.
Then he seemed almost too serious when he said he had a question, but any worry she might have had over this was short lived, for he went on to ask about her job. Her smile softened, and she said, "It is a long story. Not all of it is good, fair warning, but I am okay to talk about it now." She went on to tell a shortened version of the long story, how she had been at her sweet sixteen and her friends were all killed and she was kidnapped, then released for a few years. The second time she had been kidnapped had brought her to New York City, and she had been rescued by a young man that had something to do with animals, and that he had brought her to the mansion for safe haven. "I never forget what he did for me or what t'e people at mansion did for me..." She explained about the fact she was prone to getting hurt and was always seeking help, though reluctantly. "So at one point, and it took several years for me to make t'e choice, I decide I would do all I could to help. I am not schooled, I did not even graduate high school, but I supposed t'ey could overlook t'at because of how much t'ey needed staff at t'e time."
"A few years," she replied and then tried very hard not to yawn from tiredness. She was starting to feel impatient and wanted to go home and sleep. God, sleep was great. Xavia had missed sleep, and now that she had it back, she was extremely happy to have it... But waiting for the manager to come get her to pay her was going to probably take until the rest of the bands were done playing. And she couldn't drink, so that didn't help either.
"I train t'ere too, but it is slow going because of all of the work I do outside and inside mansion." Indeed, she was a busy person. And she would be even busier once her second kid arrived. Yay for that.
"T'e baby is fine. It was just t'e smell in t'e city bot'ering me is all. It smells very stinky to me right now." She patted his hand softly, and then smiled when Allegra came in. "Hello t'ere. Umm, how about you call me Xavia outside of mansion? Ms. Worshahlai is a very long name to have to say. Besides, I am not always teacher." And she grinned. "Not to worry, dear, we just got here."
Then she stood up, assuming it was time to go relax. Oh, how she was ready for relaxation. She was quite cheerful, nevertheless.
If Derek hadn't noticed, her hair color was orange instead of red now, though at the moment, it was in it's natural curl. Her attention went to Allegra, "Derek tells me you like fashion... I have a whole bunch of brand new designer clot'es you may go t'rough if you wish." She smiled, then turned her attention to Derek, "And I want to know what has been going on for last few weeks."
She wasn't even looking down at the poor guy, nor did she think he was pathetic at all... But he did not voice these things, and because of this, she was already walking back to the nearby greenhouse. Miscommunication at it's finest, yo.
Unless someone came and got her and stopped her, she was gone.

"Sounds like a good plan," she said in reply to his comment about positivity. Really, he hadn't been caustic or standoffish at all, he had gotten up to check on her and make sure she was alright, even if it scared the hot beverage out of her hands. It wasn't just about that, though. There was something deeper about him than he would let most people see, and she caught a glimpse.
"I am sure. I like trying new t'ings." A soft nod later, and she was thinking about the lingering warmth in her palm from the connection of their hands for a short time. He opened the door for her and she walked in, she paused and touched his arm, then walked in and then he walked in, where he would talk to the host and they would soon be seated.
She would look through the starters, "Mmm... Flageoletand Lemon Celery Tartines sound like t'ey would be delicious. And maybe I should try t'e Ratatouilli as you suggest. T'ere are a lot of t'ings to choose from," she said seriously as she flipped through the pages. Of course there would be someone offering a bottle of wine, and she bit her lip, then looked up to the man, "I t'ink I would prefer a seltzer water wit' lemon, please..." She was not sure a glass of wine would sit well with the peanut she was nurturing, and also knew that wine wasn't so good for drinking when pregnant. She was not about to be sad about it, though. After the man took Artair's drink order, she grinned at him about the duck thing.
"Hey, if duck is what you are after, go for it. Promise you won't offend me or gross me out." And she meant it.
"I just made it a few minutes before you call." She, of course, had driven to this spa that Derek had booked. Xavia was excited, but she was also not feeling too great, so it kind of made her not so chipper on the phone even though she had plenty to be chipper about. "I will be right in, see you in a moment, dear." After hanging up, she did just that.
She got out of her mini van and headed into the building's lobby, then took a deep breath as she sat down heavily next to Derek. All kinds of smells assaulted her the moment she did that, but she was glad all the smells were pleasant, rather than stinky. Stinky would have her running for the hills... Or in this case, the front door because it was close...
"No, I just need to rest is all. I am very tired... But if you wish, you can stay here and get to know Mama and Delilah while I am taking a nap." And she meant it... "Also, if you go t'rough t'e door under t'e left stairs, will lead you to back yard." And assuming he stayed, she would move to the next room over, a very warmly decorated bedroom with a canopied bed and what looked like a nice, comfortable mattress. She flopped down on the side, then lay down, and she fell right to sleep.
"Sounds interesting. Well... Here is lesson two for you, Derek... If you are ill in some sort of way, or somet'ing has changed t'e chemistry in your body and you know it, do not push yourself too hard wit' your powers as t'ey can fatigue you quite fast. In my case, I did not use my powers much if at all to know how t'ey act. I am learning fast wit' t'is one t'at powers are draining and baby is not liking it."
And it was true, she thought as the cramps started to let up. Perhaps the baby would be a normal human being with no special abilities, and therefor does not like the energy that it takes to use said type of thing..
"T'at sounds great. Please do keep me away from cheese." She actually laughed, which was something foreign for her, but it was a warm and hearty laugh, more at his reaction to the thought of natural bodily functions he wished to avoid. "Sorry, buddy, but it happens a lot when woman is pregnant too, you are not safe. Also, I already have some honeysuckle, here and at mansion. It is in garden in back yard."
