The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Reading had always been a tough thing for Fade to accomplish. Without the proper education, or in fact, any education at all, she was not the fastest reader. Still, admitting that she was severely undereducated was harder than actually reading, so she would bring books to practice with outside, usually up in a tree. The book she was currently reading was not exactly in her age group, but Doctor Seus books were the best to practice with. Not to mention, the book was full of more pictures than words to help her associate what they meant. She was flipping through the pages of How the Grinch Stole Christmas when she saw a cab pull up and somebody step up.
He simply walked through the gates, he must have been to the Mansion before for the security to allow him through, but Fade did not recognize him. Perhaps he was at the Mansion while she was on that long vacation she took trying to find Raph, though most of the journey was for herself as well. Closing her book, she tucked it on a branch and climbed down. Brushing any twigs or leaves that had settled on her clothes, she began walking towards the unfamiliar face.
"Hello there," she called, catching up to him. "Hi, I'm sorry, it's just that I don't recognize you. Do you need help with anything?" she asked, unsure of the reasons why he was here. She hoped she did not come out to be hostile, it was not her intention, but she had to be at least a little cautious these days. She had to make sure he would not cause any problems, though he had the benefit of the doubt, he looked completely harmless. "Sorry, I'm Fade," she added, sticking with the name she enjoyed to be called. She hated introducing herself as Jenny and she only tolerated it from parents or Sam.
Amber seemed surprised, very surprised. It looked like she wanted the help, but was uncertain if Fade wanted something in return. A favor wasn't much of a favor if the one helping got something out of it, right? Even though Amber did not live at the Mansion, she took classes here, which would open her to a variety of mutants there, and most students were taught to be polite and helpful, there must have been someone who offered to help in some other way, shape, or form. No matter, Fade was probably the first, but not the last.
"I lived a tough life out there in the city, mutants here at this Mansion helped me to grow and develop and helped me with anything I needed, so long as it was not immoral, of course. It only seems fitting that now I help anyone who needs it. If your power is harder to practice simply because you don't have the necessary tools, well, if I have the necessary tools, then sure, I'd love to help. The other ways of getting to those fossils are either through college and archaeological studies or breaking and entering, so I'd say just slipping in there is a lot easier and more hassle-free," she smiled. She was being honest, she would help, it would give her something to do, though the Danger Room could always come up with a more complicated security system for her to sneak through than a musuem, it was still practice.
Looking down, she noticed how weird it might look, but she shrugged and continued cleaning. "It comes in handy quite a lot. If you lose a key to something, you never need to find it. So I wouldn't have to deal with insurance companies if I locked my keys in the car," she laughed, even though she already did not have to deal with insurance companies because she couldn't drive. She needed to learn how to do that at some point. In Romania, she had driven a runaway truck during a reconnassance mission, but that truck crashed...
Shin began the formal introduction, naming Kealey as an extraordinary costume designer. Hmmm, truth be told, Fade's outfit could use a little tuning up, even if no one really saw her at all during a mission. Kealey was quick to stike up a conversation, a bit more bold than Fade was. Then again, the rush of emotions and crushing were still wearing off even after she and Sam let go of each other's hands. Grasping Kealey's hand, she nodded and said "nice to meet you too."
"Not yet, no. Though I would love to speak with you about a new uniform," she smiled. It came with the years. She hardly ever called it a costume these days, it just sounded more mature to say uniform, though no one else sounded immature when they said it. It was more for her own attempt at looking like even a severely undereducated woman could be modest. What calmed her down was how Kealey began to fan herself from the heat. At least others could feel it too, Fade was worried that if she spoke up about it, everyone would blame Sam for the temperature change since it only affected her. But it made her feel more comfortable that others were on the same heat boat as she was.
"Yes, I can fade," she smiled. It was always odd to use her name as a verb or hear it be used in that context. "Though so far, only from the majority of people, there are those who can still see me through other senses, like Sam for example. I'm working on how to make my heat signature invisible," she looked to Sam as if it were a bit of a playful threat. "What about you? Do you only have the power to create amazing costumes or do you have some other tricks up your sleeve?" she asked.
Sam's fingers lingered on her's as he took the cup of punch from her and she felt the tingle jolt her brain and jumpstart her heart. Hopefully, her cheeks did not change too vibrantly, the light was doing an amazing job of masking her blushing for the time being. He said something about getting kicked out of dances, it was hard to see Sam as a bad boy, at least not in the role she'd seen him in. Though everyone had a dark side. Hopefully he hadn't seen her's and never will. Just like that, he turned to walk away. Fade debated grabbing his arm and pulling him back, but she decided to smile at him from a distance and convince him to return through eye contact. And if that did not work, then she could always just physically try to pull him back.
Everything Amber had said twisted and turned in Fade's mind as she considered helping. For a moment, she thought she would just leave it be and not to become involved, but the moment passed rather quickly and she found herself excited by the idea of sneaking into a museum. It's not stealing, it's momentarily borrowing. Of course, no scientist would enjoy the thought of their precious fossils being touched or examined by someone who did not possess the creditials to handle the fossil, but it was not like Amber could graduate from the college of dinosaur shifting, so she was on her own for finding the bones.
"Well, I am good at sneaking into places. If we're just using it for a few seconds of touching, then I don't see what harm could come of taking it out of the room and into the main halls of the museum, just for you to touch it for less than a minute," she said, finally offering up her help when Amber asked why she had been inquiring so much. Now that her mind was slightly more at ease and she was waiting for Amber's reply, she got up and moved over to the sink. Since Amber was in front of it, she phased through the cabinet and stood washing the dishes on the right of the sink.
The sight of half-a-body on the countertop may have been unsettling, but mutants usually got used to that. Though there were some powers she could not watch take form, they were even a little too gross for her to watch. "I hope this doesn't look to creepy," she said, washing off her fork first. Dishes were never fun, but she could not let Amber do them all herself, especially not after making her a lovely plate of breakfast that beat her cereal ten fold.
So I know we're had quite a few plots that range from the timeline, to power affectants, to body switching, kidnapping, and controlling. But what about a different kind of plot?
I remembered we used to have a board for the Astral Plane (we may still have that but I'm not 100% sure) and that spawned an idea. What about if there was an extremely powerful mental mutant, like a telepath. Their powers grow so deep that they fall into a coma where they become trapped in the Astral Plane. In an attempt to rejoin the world, this mutant's powers begin to affect others and soon a section of New York falls completely unconscious, their astral bodies sent to the Astral world this mutant is trapped in.
The world is described to be very bright and there is no night. It is also said to be a place where karma takes its affect, but that could be further discussed. How this would affect characters would be that some are pulled into this Astral Plane where others on the outside have to find a way to find the mutant that put their loved ones and friends in the astral plane and then find some way to wake this mutant up along with everyone else while not falling into the Astral Plane as well.
For any evil characters or those with a rugged past, the Astral Plane could be a bit more dark and reintroduce you to those you have hurt in the past through astral projections, archangels, and such. Those inside the planes would not be able to find everyone that quickly, and there are 7 planes, each one reaching a bit higher and higher. Anyone who joins on the inside will be separated into one of those groups. While they're facing whatever entrapments and projections from their own minds, they also must find the source and try to save themselves from the Astral world instead of waiting for their friends to save them.
Some modern interpretations of this world could be personafied through some movies that have come out. For example Inception works with projections and how the affect the subconsious person in this state, thus ideas could be formed on how these projections your character places into this world would react. Wikipedia describes the Astral Plane though it's a rather complicated world.
Luke grabbed the girl and pulled her inside and Fade felt a rush of relief. For a moment, she dangled from the side of the building, running her fingers through her hair and breathing calmly. Most of the blood was still rushing to her head but at least she didn't have to worry about letting go of the woman. After taking a minute to breathe, she phased her claws into the wall. Phasing her legs through where she held on so tight earlier, she swung her feet down and she clung to the wall again, this time her head on top and feet below. Climbing up, she phased through the wall instead of using the window, it was closer.
Once inside, she pulled herself up to her feet and shook her head lightly. All the blood had colored her face red and it took a few moments for it to drain down to it's normal, slightly-more pale skin tone. Sighing and stretching, she looked up. "Thank you, Luke, she was about to slip. I guess we could just leave her here," she said, stepping over the unconscious woman. Swaying a little, she made her way towards the stairs, looking back to make sure Luke was coming. Normally, she would climb down, but she was a little done with building dangling for the moment and she enjoyed some conscious company.
"I didn't see how you and Sam did with your mutants," she said as more of a question than a statement. Holding on to the railings, she made her way down the stairs, nearly even tempted to slide down the railings like she would do as a child. When she reached the bottom, the open door way led straight out to the street where Sam stood waiting. The program would turn off eventually, probably once they regrouped. "How'd you do?"
When Amber offered to take her plate, she offered it up willingly. There was nothing better than not having to do the dishes. As Amber talked about how she wanted to go to the musuem and touch some of the fossils but simply did not have the stealth resources, Fade's nose for fun began sniffing. Now that would be a steal. The redhead's past revolved around theft and it was sometimes hard to live simply by the code of good. Never steal, never lie, never cheat. So far, she didn't have anyone to cheat on and she didn't steal so there was nothing to lie about. Fade's record was perfect for the time being. However, this idea struck her.
Would stealing one fossil from a dinosaur really be stealing? If it helps another mutant who can't obtain that themselves? And what if she put it back right where she found it? She would really only be borrowing to help a new friend work some more on her powers. Would that count as stealing? The mental moral battle began as she debated what to do. Borrow and help or just leave it alone? She supposed the question might be better answered from someone who was not suffering from a slight stealing addiction.
"You would just borrow them right? Just to practice with your power? You wouldn't take them for good? And do you need the entire dinosaur fossil or just one piece?" she asked, stretching back in her seat. She would not reveal her plan unless she got a solid answer that she could work with. Maybe this older sister was good at stealth and a good person who would make sure Amber did not steal those fossils. Hopefully she was.
Amber clarified how her powers worked. She actually had to touch a fossil, she couldn't just read about it. Well, then that might be a bit more difficult. "Still, you could read about one and then research where they can be found, like in museums and such, then just break the rules by jumping over the hold out ropes and touching the fossil," she suggested. Still, there were some places that did not actually use fossils in their museums, they used replicas of those fossils. She wondered if that would work the same. "What if it's like a copy of the fossil? Like not the actual bone, but a stone statue of what they had found?" she asked, munching slowly on her pancakes.
That was true. Who knew what a dinosaur really looked like. "Yeah, I guess so. But I mean, do you usually look exactly like the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park? I think it's be interesting if you were like an archaeologist and when you find fossils, you could turn into that and discover what all that dinosaur used to be able to do. It's like jumping in a time machine, huh?" she smiled, taking another bite of her yummy food. Being a dinosaur mutant definitely sounded cool.
The attention was turned back on herself and Amber asked her about her power, whether she used it to spy. Some people tended to get a little protective when she talked about walking around invisible. "Well, when I was much younger, yes, I loved doing that sort of stuff. I don't really spy on people, if I approach you while I'm invisible, it usually means I want to sneak up on you and scare you, or I'm trying to master sneaking up on you. Take for example, there's a mutant here that is blind and I am trying to get it so I could sneak up on him, still working on it. But really, I don't spy on people. I may practice in the Mansion and not want people to disrupt me, so I go invisible," she let out a small laugh when she realized what some people would do with her power. "No, I've never snuck into a boys locker room invisible," she smiled. She had been tempted before, but she never went to high school so most men she ran into had not been her age when she was into that sort of stuff, so no thank you on the locker time.
Help is on the way, she told herself over and over, trying to keep herself motivated to continue draining her energy and holding on to the girl's feet. With every breath, she could feel the woman slip a little more. A blast sounded from nearby after she heard Luke's voice reminding her he was on his way to help. A wave of relief rushed over her, but she did not let go still, she only needed to hold on a bit longer. Sam called up from down below to ask if they were alright, and Fade craned her neck down to look. It appeared he would be ground support, just in case Fade could not hold on long enough. It almost made her want to drop the Rainwoman and have Sam catch her, but the risk was too great, so she held on. "Almost alright!" she replied.
Then those beautiful words came: ""I'm right here Fade... can you reach far enough for me to grab her?" The sound of help right next to her sped up her heartrate and she released a long breath, not too long so she would let go though. She looked over to see where he was, right at the window she had been making her way towards, with his arms stretched out to help. The window still was not that close, but it was closer now that Luke could catch the woman. Keeping her grip tight, she began to sway, only lightly at first until she built some speed.
In a few long sways, she had managed to get the rainwoman in the direct line for catching. With one more powerful swing, the rainwoman's limp body froze momentarily in front of the window while it switched its speed from upper left to lower left. It was just enough time to Luke to react and grab her in perfect range. Simply having the weight lifted from her made it much easier to breath and relax. Still, she kept her grip on the woman's legs until she felt it was safe to let go. "You got her?" she asked, waiting for confirmation so she could focus on getting inside herself.
In a situation like this, the only thing that Fade wanted was to be noticed by her team-mates. Dangling from the roof, she held tightly to the Rainwoman's legs. The mutated moisture produced through her skin continued to dampen her clothes, making her even heavier and harder to grab on. Although it was no longer raining, she could feel the water that had built up on her shoes begin to drip down her legs. The two were stuck between two windows. One on her left, one on her right. Since it was too low to pull her to the top and too high to try to set her down on the ground, Fade had to go with a window option.
Catching her breath, she attempted a new techinique, one she had only tried without additional weight. Phasing her knee through the wall, she turned it solid in the concrete and pulled her foot out. With her grasp redirected to her knee, she twisted her leg a little and phased the foot through the wall again. The end result was her right leg a whole six inches closer to the other window. Her legs now spread and her grasp tight, she tried the same thing with her left leg, closing the gap between her legs while trying to keep her grip on the Rainwoman.
A small slide on her hands signalled that the weight from the woman was slowly being pulled down by gravity and Fade's strength was not great enough to keep her in the suspended position much longer. She needed to get to that window. Even if she were able to get to it, she would have to pull the woman through it, requiring even more strength. Holding her in one position was much easier than hoisting her from above. Words of relief rushed to her head along with most of her blood. Luke had noticed the two women suspended from the building and he was coming to help. Just in time too, her head was throbbing with stress and pressure. All of this for a simulation. This was why she enjoyed robots more, it was not wrong to rip out their wires or let them drop from a building. In a battle, the X's were responsible for themselves and their opponent's lives. "Hurry! I can't hold her much longer," she said, still trying to shimey her way to the window.
As the woman fell back, a loud bang followed by a bright light reminded Fade that Luke and Sam were also in this battle and she glanced over momentarily to see how they were doing. They were doing fine. It was hard to tell who was winning just yet but they weren't hurt. She turned back to the girl, but the rain mutant was already back on her feet. Her dark blue eyes fixed on where Fade had punched her from, tiny droplets of water seemed to rain upwards, giving away Fade's position as each drop slithered up her body. Once her position was detected, all of the rain in the surrounding areas ceased and began pelting the redhead in one spot.
The rain quickly turned to a rush of water and Fade took a giant breath before phasing through the initial blast. The rain woman created a tube of water, attempting to keep Fade inside, even hardening the outside of the tube to ice as she began turning the entire tube to ice. Occassionally, Fade would phase an arm out, but the sudden fill of water where he body should be informed the rain mutant that Fade was trying to escape and she made the tube wider, catching her still. Unable to breathe, she turned solid and splashed around, trying to get out as her body began to slow, freezing inside the tube.
When the tube had completely frozen over, Fade waited a second, ignoring the tingling on her face from lack of air. Since the ice had become so dense, no one could see through to find the space of Fade that had been trapped, which was exactly her plan. Luke had made these pretty tough, but she could escape. Phasing through the bottom, she slipped out of the ice sculpture and onto the floor underneath the roof, taking a minute to catch her breath. Wheezing frantically, she grabbed her chest and steadied herself, rubbing her hands together to regain heat. She would need a hot bath after tonight. Hair dripping and teeth chattering, she jumped up, grabbing the ceiling with her claws. While still invisible, she phased only her face up to find the rain mutant circling the tube of ice, trying to see her captive.
When she was directly over Fade's face, the redhead jumped up, swinging a punch at the girl's face. Only a girl can hit a girl. The rain mutant fell back with a yelp and Fade jumped to the other side of her, pushing her in a different location. Squirming around to fight back, the rain mutant did not see the edge of the building and Fade pushed her off. Immediately following the woman's fall, Fade jumped down as well, wrapping her hands around the woman's legs before phasing her feet into the wall. It had to be done quickly but slowly. Too fast and her torso would rip off from her legs. Too slow and the program would assume them both dead and act to save Fade. Luckily, she was able to pull it off and caught her feet on the building. The sudden jerk of force sent both mutants hurdling towards the building, but Fade phased through, still holding on.
While her face phased through, her arms were caught on the outside and she felt a jerk back to the other side of the wall. "I've gotcha! Surrender!" she called down to the mutant in her hands. The woman did not respond, nor did she try to steady herself, she just slowly swayed from Fade's grip. Jenny had forgotten that the woman couldn't phase through the wall, she must have hit her face on the building and been knocked unconcious. That would have been a good thing if Fade did not have to pull her back up to the roof top! Even though the danger room would end the rain woman's program if she were to fall off a building, if this were an actual battle, Fade could not let her just die, so she treated her like a real mutant and tried to figure out a way to pull her back up and not fall herself.
Fade nodded. Climbing with her claws was probably her favorite thing. It was hard enough to be agile on the floor, but it made it so much easier when she could round a corner by sinking her claws into the corner wall and slingshotting her legs around or when she it was crowded in a hallway and she could climb onto the ceiling to pass through the crowds with ease. Climbing a giant building was also a lot of fun as well as jumping off one to another's roof. If she ever fell short, she could just dig her claws into the wall and catch herself before she fell all the way. Her favorite move would have been the time she was in the Danger Room with Sam and Luke, when she ran towards a building and phased through the wall to land on the floor directly under the roof.
"But aren't there flyer dinosaurs?" she asked. Honestly, she had no clue what they were called, but they called Petri from Land Before Time a flier. She had heard the name used in Jurassic Park before. Pteradactyll? Something along those lines of confusing letters put together that don't make any sense next to each other. She wondered just how big Amber could get, long neck sized?! T-Rex sized!? "Can't you just read up on some of the dinosaurs to become them?" she asked. Now that would be cool. Just read about something and you could become it.
"Do you become what they really look like or how archaeologists reconstructed them? Like who's to say T-Rex's had earth toned skin? If they really had purple skin, would you have purple skin? Or any traits you have as a dinosaur that archaeologists have yet to discover?" If that were the case and that was Fade's power, chances are, she would be an archaeologist. Then again, archaeology required school, something she had never really attended, so it was good she had her power and did not have to do much reading with it.
