The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Penelope narrowed her eyes at the young girl who was looking at her new friend so accusingly. She really didn’t like Crystal. The girl was so snobby that sometimes Penelope just wanted to hit her over the head with a Hello Kitty plushie! So obnoxious was she that Penelope usually did her best to avoid her at school and almost never ran into her when she was out with her sister. But, for whatever reason, today was the day that proved to be the exception to the rules of her world.
Crystal was here. They were crossing paths. And, worst of all, her new friend was being mocked.
Penelope lips twisted cruelly as she was about to tell the girl off when, over her shoulder, she heard the distinct sound of a body spray bottle going…
SPRITZ!!
She jumped as suddenly a cloud of the sweet mist flew through the air and covered Crystal’s face completely. A small amount of it fell on the young Penelope’s shoulders, but she didn’t mind. Crystal, on the other hand, definitely seemed to mind. She sputtered, and spat, and gagged as she attempted to wave the stuff away.
Penelope laughed out loud as she turned to Tses…
>> "Oh my gosh, I am sooo sorry, the nozzle was totally turned the wrong way! You didn't get that in your mouth, did you? I hear it really doesn't taste like watermelons!"
“Ugh! Gross!!” Crystal gasped as she glared at both Tses and Penelope. Her accusing eyes turned squarely onto Tses finally. “Gawd! Stupid! You’re just as much a freak as Penelope is!”
Her attention snapping back, Penelope narrowed her gaze on the young girl. “You stop that! I’m not a freak!”
Crystal rolled her eyes as she began to wipe the liquid off her face. “Of COURSE you are! Only freaks live with their sisters! Only freaks have their parents killed! Only freaks hang out together!! Freak! Freak! Freak!!” Crystal began to chant out, laughing at Penelope maliciously before snapping her gaze back to the tall woman. “I don’t know who you are, but you’re probably just as much a freak. Though…maybe not as much as Penelope.”
Penelope sniffled and began to wipe the tears from her eyes, trying to keep her emotions contained. Quickly it was failing, though, as a laughter filled the back of her mind. A laughter fueled by the sounds of the word “FREAK” resounding inside of her head. She couldn’t stop it now. As much as she wanted…she couldn’t…
>> "But the snowman is even bigger than Santa and you're a 'wee bit' smaller. And the snowman is very hairy and you...never mind."
…
Penelope stuck her tongue out at him. It was only playfully, but still, the intention was there…Shut up. They were just pretending so there was no reason that she couldn’t be absolutely whoever she wanted to be. Miles should have known that. As a matter of fact, she would have told him that in person if Victoria had already started to climb into position. So, instead she just smiled at both Miles and Victoria and waited for her turn.
>> “Don’t want to make it too easy for you Penelope.”
Penelope giggled as Victoria got into position. She was ready to play now this new game. Though the zombie one was a lot of fun, she had a feeling that maybe both she and Victoria teamed up against Miles was a bit unfair. Playing one-on-one would probably be far easier for him to deal with. After all, there was only so much that he could take of the two of them before he admitted defeat.
Plus, at least with this game they would get the play with the puppies! She loved puppies.
She stood back behind Miles and waited in anticipation for everything to begin. Maybe by watching Victoria go first, she could in fact figure out a far better way to play the game so that she could surpass Victoria and win! Penelope loved to win. But, standing back, she realized that there was little effort to the game other than holding on for dear life. Miles shouted orders, the dogs obeyed, and Victoria held on. Seemed simple enough.
Eagerly she waited, even as Miles pulled out his phone and was talking to someone very loudly. Her eyes were set upon Victoria as she shouted.
Penelope smiled wide. Oooo, it was watermelon! She had to grin once the scent of the sweet fragrance tantalized her nose. She always loved this sweet smelling stuff, but only when it was the fruity kinds! There were others that were supposed to smell like flowers or things like that, but to her they never did! They always just smelled so…weird! They were too much! But the fruit ones always had just the right amount of scent to them.
Penelope liked the watermelon one especially. She was sure that her new bestie was going to like it too.
>> "What the hell was that?...Wholly, molly that was worse than walking to the thirst story of Aembercromie and Fitch! Put it back before you suffocate us all!"
She giggled! Tses could be so funny sometimes! She liked to talk loud and pretend that she didn’t like these things but what girl didn’t? It just didn’t make sense in her mind. Tses was probably pretending again, like when she was pretending to be overly mad at her for staining her shirt. Such a kidder.
Smirking, she shrugged as she tucked the follow of watermelon body mist back into its spot on the shelf before moving back to Tses side. As she walked she peered around the small store but there was no sign of her sister here either. She could probably wait here because eventually Lilith would think to check Penelope’s favorite stores.
But…there was so much she wanted to see with her new friend! Hmm, surely if they kept moving they would eventually run into her, right? After all, it was not as if the mall was that big. Offering Tses a big smile, she nodded to her.
“Yeah, looks like she isn’t here. Come on, maybe we should try—“
“Penelope Peyton Pepper?” came a slightly snotty and condescending voice off to the side.
Penelope winced. She knew that voice. It was the voice of someone that caused her to shrivel up inside and void of her the mirthful light that shined behind her eyes. Her eyes rolling as she glanced to Tses, Penelope turned on her heel. Before her was the owner of this voice, a slightly taller young girl, the same age as Penelope, but with fiery red hair, shining emerald eyes, and clothing that just seemed to shout taste and money. The young girl was obviously well off…and she knew it.
“Crystal,” Penelope mumbled her eyes downcast a bit. “Hi.”
Crystal arched a brow as she eyed Penelope…then eyed the woman she was standing with. Her eyes, though young, were harsh and penetrating. She eyed the strange for a few minutes before she fully locked her gaze on Penelope.
“Penny,” she muttered in greeting. “What’re…YOU doing here?” she asked as if she was personally insulted with Penelope’s presence in her mall. Then her eyes lifted to Tses, though she was still directing her voice to the young girl. “And what is THAT?”
Oh, Jezebel was LIT!! She was ready to tear this woman a new one when the sword-wielding coward suddenly turned on her heel and darted away from her! Eyes wide, teeth bared, Jezebel snarled as she bolted after the woman, still carrying the now limp body of the fanboy in hands and brandishing him dangerously. As the woman ran, Jezebel threw a torrent of obscenities and curses at her out of frustration and anger. Obviously it wouldn’t slow her opponent down, but definitely made Jezebel feel better!
>> "Team Lacob!"
People cheered but many of them knew to get out of the way. Watching a giant, red woman barreling down on them was enough to make anyone look for safe cover; especially when said woman was brandishing a, what had to now be, dead man. Flopping lifelessly over her shoulder, Jezebel ran as fast as her long legs carried her. She was easily closing the gap between them.
Then the little B**** decided to turn into the traffic!
Jezebel snarled. The woman was fast, reckless, and dangerous. It actually made her even angrier that the two of them couldn’t be friends! Obviously the deciding factor here was the fact that she watched, and fangirled, over those ridiculous Dusklight movies! That was simply an unforgivable crime!
No…friendship could not be had. She would indeed have to murder her.
Stomping out into the street, Jezebel snarled and snapped and cursed at any and all cars that were honking and swerving around her. The worst was when she felt one of them nudge into her legs so harshly that she actually stumbled! SHE! STUMBLED!! Jezebel was extremely displeased with that.
“YOU STUPID ****!!!” she growled as she suddenly hurled the glittering fanboy fromher shoulder into the car’s windshield.
Inside she hear the PUFF of the airbag go off. With him distracted, she reached down and peeled off the car’s metal bumper off before turned and continued her pursuit. Kicking another car that was stopped in front of her, she knocked it away as she stormed after the woman.
“COME ON, SWEETIE!” she cackled as she stomped onto the hood of another car, setting off its alarms, and continuing on as if it didn’t even slow her down. “YOU GUNNA LET ME HURT ALL THESE PATHETIC HUMANS? WHY DON’T YOU WANT TO PLAY?!”
Oh she was definitely not going to let her go. Not. At. All. Such was the downfall of playing the hero.
Penelope looked up, trying to lean just a tiny bit in order to hear the man speaking. She had yet to meet him but she knew that he was one of the teachers at the mansion. She was always taught to treat her teachers with respect so she could offer him the same courtesy. So far he seemed nice so that always shined brightest in her book. She would definitely be on her best behavior…even if exploring on her own wasn’t allowed.
Sad. Sometimes the best adventures came out from exploring on your own. Too bad.
Turning her attention back to the window, she looked outside and smiled as she watched the passing buildings and people. She wondered if any of those people knew that this bus was fully of mutant children. It could very well be possible but there were not guarantees. It really was not like any of them truly looked like mutants. Maybe that was for the best. Humans tended not to like a lot of mutants gathering together. It made them nervous. She couldn’t understand why, though, and simply chalked that up to just misunderstanding.
So, quietly, after the teacher stopped talking, Penelope returned to humming her nameless song and simply stared out at the word before her.
>> "Hey, Penny…I was sitting in the back there, thinking how lonely and dark it must be on the shadow fort Victoria is in. She can't have any light, but I figure she can hear sounds? What do you say we visit her seat, just to let her hear a couple of friendly voices, telling her everything is going to be all right?"
She jumped when she first heard the voice and then the sensation of a sudden sitting. She turned to see who it was and grinned wide when she saw it was Miles. Miles was pretty cool! Even if he did talk a lot, he was nice and he even entertained both Victoria and herself awhile back. It was very sweet of him to do. She would consider him her friend.
Then he mentioned Victoria and her mouth opened wide!
“Oh my gosh, you’re right!” she muttered and nodded fiercely to Miles. “Come on, let’s go,” she said as she climbed out of her seat, grabbed his hand, and pulled him along to the nest of darkness that Victoria had constructed for herself. The poor thing…
>> "Kid, I don't think your sister is going to be in there! It's....cute... and pink. Let's go check Hot Topic or something!"
Penelope giggled as she kept pulling Tses with all her might. Though she appreciated the suggestion, she knew that Lilith wouldn’t go into Hot Topic. It was too dark and harsh for her. Plus, Lilith used to work in one and had steadily grew a distaste for that particular store. No, if Lilith was searching for Penelope at all, she knew that she would check stores like the Hello Kitty store. If only because she knew how much Penelope loved all the stuff in here.
But also Penelope just wanted to see the store. Though she knew that she should be looking for her sister, there was nothing wrong with also staying in one place with a new friend, right? Besides, Tses may even like some of this stuff! Maybe Penelope could find matching friendship bracelets!
It took some tugging and pulling but eventually Penelope’s mighty kid strength, and determination, managed to pull the young woman into the store. Together, they stood side-by-side as Penelope lifted her gaze and grinned wide, looking over all the cute, cuddly, bright items that were around her. There…was just so many colors!
“Awesome…”
>> "It just so... kidish...."
She nodded with a grin and peered around inside the store, wandering in and taking a gander left and right. There was just everything Hello Kitty! She loved that plushie white kitten so much that she had at least one of everything. It was one of the things that her sister knew she could present to her and that Penelope would love dearly. It probably helped that they were pretty enough to even calm Mrs. Tickle, but Penelope still loved them more!
Giggling, she picked up a spray bottle of patented Hello Kitty body spray and suddenly turned, squirting a mist or two of the lovely, sweet smelling concoction at Tses.
“That should help with the chili smell!” she beamed innocently and in such a helpful manner as well!
Penelope giggled. Chase was silly. Why was he walking like an airplane? It certainly wasn’t the hall for it. And, on top of that, he certainly wasn’t making the sounds required to emulate an airplane. But Penelope wouldn’t point that out to him. Instead, once he said “This way” she figured it would be best to oblige.
Arms out…One foot stepping in front of the other…and she was copying him as she followed him from behind. She could only assuming that walking like this was required for the hall. Sometimes schools had weird rules…
>> “Oh, my mommy is very nice,”
Penelope grinned and nodded. She really did like the woman. Maybe she would get to talk to her again sometime!
>> “My Daddy sometimes comes her to visit Mommy when he’s not working…But he doesn’t work here. My Daddy is a police officer! He fights bad guys! Like this one time—this one time, I went to work with him! And this mean man, he had a gun! But don’t tell my mom—And Daddy, Daddy turned into a giant water-man. He was like—woosh! Swoosh! Ba-boosh! And he defeated the bad guy!”
Penelope was all too eager to hear about Chase’s dad! If his mom was nice, surely his dad was nice too, right?
But her blood started to turn cold at the story that Chase told. He said it, that awful phrase, ”My Daddy is a police officer!” Penelope couldn’t help the shiver that ran down her spine. The very idea that her knew best friend was the son…the son of a police man! Those awful, bad, terrible people that took her parents away from her and hated all mutants! Worst of all was the very fact that he was a mutant!!! Penelope…she just…she couldn’t wrap her head around any of it! This was not supposed to make sense in her world and it didn’t!
Chase, though, sounded so excited as he recounted the story. He really was proud of his daddy, but that could only mean that he didn’t know the truth. He didn’t know that cops were the bad guys did he?! Unless…unless he was brainwashed! Maybe the police sucked out his brain and reprogrammed it so that he would like the police! Ugh! So scary!
She did her best to swallow her fear and remained behind Chase as he walked. She couldn’t alert him. If he knew she was scared of police, he may tell his cop father and the man could come and try to take Penelope’s brain too! She would have to be sneaky.
>> “This is where the classrooms start. I am in the kindergarten-to-fifth grade class because there is not a lot of us. It's at the other end of the hall, so I'll show you it... but the big kids go to class up here. The oldest kids are down here.”
Her mind refocused on the conversation and Penelope did her best to smile and nod. The school really did sound good but the fact that they had a police man visit all the time unnerved her. At least the place with the golden doors didn’t have police!
She nodded to Chase with a smile. “T-The classes, they all look wonderful,” she said. “What’s your favorite class?”
Penelope could feel the pressure just a tiny bit. She had mentioned and thought of Mrs. Tickle far too much so apparently the personality’s attention was grabbed. The young girl really didn’t want this to happen but as much as she tried to deny mutation a voice, Penelope knew that it was pressing on her mind now. She had to stop thinking about her, otherwise she was going to inadvertently open the door she didn’t want open. That would be a bad circumstance, especially here. Far too many people for Jezebel to hurt.
Attempting to force herself to not think about her, Penelope focused on looking for her sister. Lilith had to be around this mall somewhere. But, seriously, how could she just walk off like that? Who just leaves their sister behind? Who doesn’t come looking for them?
Because she hates you.
Shut up.
She took a steady breath and hoped that would be enough to silence Jezebel for now. She tried to keep her attention focused on seeking out her sibling.
>> "Who's Mrs. Tickle? Is that your rabbit?"
She looked up. Tses was addressing her about Mrs. Tickle. Darn it, that meant that she had been paying attention when she was talking. It was always dangerous to bring up the red Amazon, but Penelope couldn’t just let the question hang either. It would only prompt the woman to prod and question further.
Softly she shook her head.
“This is Mr. Tickle,” she said with a nod. “He’s married to Mrs. Tickle.” She tried to mutter that sentence quickly as she focused her attention on more of the shops and away from her alterego. A distraction. They needed a distraction— “OH A HELLO KITTY STORE!” she grinned to Tses. “Maybe Lilith is in there! Come on!”
Lilith hated Hello Kitty. But Tses didn’t need to know that. Fingers gripping Tses’ unoccupied hand, Penelope began her best to pull her towards the store.
Penelope continue alongside the Tses, musing to herself after her big revelation. In all honesty, she didn’t like talking about it but she was getting better at mentioning it. Maybe it was because she realized what was the point of hiding it? She was afraid of cops and she had a valid reason. If someone was scared of spiders and asked to touch one, they would say no and why, wouldn’t they? So why couldn’t the same apply to her?
Sure, it was a little dark what she said. But cops were dangerous and she had valid reasons to fear them. Nothing wrong with informing others that they should be wary too.
Tses, though, seemed momentarily stunned by Penelope’s bluntness. It was enough, considering how vocal and brash the woman was earlier, to make the young child giggle. It may have seemed a bit…macabre for someone as young as Penelope to giggle after making a comment like that, but Penelope was not a common child. She had a light and energy inside of her that always made her so…effervescent. Like rock candy popping in one’s mouth.
She shared one more glance with Tses before she continued to keep an eye out for her sister.
>>"Well, that's a pretty good reason to hate them. Mine was pretty basic. Grew up on the streets, no money so I stole. Cops don't like it when you steal. Sorry 'bought your parents though. Mine died when I was pretty young and it sucks. Least you got a sister though."
“Thanks,” she said with an honest smile. She did love Lilith, even if her sister was frightened of her. It made her feel loved that Lily would go through so much to keep her safe. Even live with Penelope’s obvious…problem.
Heheheahahehe…
>> . "You two get along?"
Penelope nodded. “Mmhmm,” she muttered as she started to skip a little, still keeping her wide eyes open for a familiar sign of her sister. “Sometimes we don’t, but usually we do. She can be a butthead with certain things like me wanting to stay up late, or singing too loud,” she said with a laugh. “But she takes care of me! So I love her.” She sighed and shrugged, “Even if she and Mrs. Tickle don’t like each other.”
Her grip slightly tightened on one of Mr. Tickle’s ears, holding him closer to her. Maybe she shouldn’t have brought HER up…
Once the puppies, tails started to wag, Penelope knew that she liked these dogs immensely. Even if they were all black, red-eyed, and scary, the simple fact was that she loved animals and especially if they were special like mutants. These puppies were sweeter than they looked and were absolutely adorable to the touch. Hopefully whenever she came to the mansion she could get to play with them. As a matter of fact, before the evening was through, she would make sure to ask Miles if that were okay.
Before long, Victoria returned with her sheets in hand and the game was ready to be played. Judged by the name, she had an initial idea of what was going to be done, but she had an inkling that Miles wanted to explain things further than just the title.
He was a talker, after all.
>> "All right, this is simple! Penelope, you tie the corner ends of the blanket to the dogs bandanas and Victoria, you sit yourself here and tell us when you're ready to go…I used to play 'Santa's sled' when I was a kid and since Christmas is close and you're all dressed in red, you get to be Santa. Or Mamam Claus. The moment you fall off the sled, it's Penelope's turn."
Penelope was quick to follow her orders. She was absolutely fine with letting Victoria go first, but she definitely wanted her own turn. Once she was sure that the sheets were tied off, she jumped up and nodded, waiting for Victoria to slip in and for Miles to finish explaining. She giggled though. Victoria as Santa Claus. Santa Claus wasn’t a girl!
>> "Well, since she's Mama Claus and Santa is too big for you, you get to be an elf!"
“Hey!” she frowned. “I don’t want to be the elf! Um, uh, I want…to be the Christmas Abominable Snowman.” she nodded as if that made all the sense in the world.
>> "Safe... I think safe is a relative term, kid. You may be safe from like, muggers, but not from me being a bad influence. There are reasons i don't like cops, and they probably aren't as good as yours."
She eyed Tses, but remained quiet.
>> "I'm glad you think I'm handling things fine... at least your not crying or running away in terror yet."
Penelope smirked a little as she walked alongside the woman. Though she seemed reluctant to want to take any responsibility for her, it was obvious that the young girl had managed to worm her way into the woman’s mind. Her words rang true and now Tses was second guessing her original plan to pawn Penelope off on someone. Yay! That meant she would get to spend more time with her and hopefully find her sister at the same time! After all, the woman really was doing a rather good job of taking care of her. She was rather pleasant!
Meanwhile, since it seemed that Tses was accepting her fate of watching over Penelope, she could hopefully get to learn some more about her new friend. She looked up, though, curiously, and wondered why Tses so disliked cops. Penelope knew why she didn’t, but she couldn’t just assume that everyone had such experiences.
Maybe Tses would share if Penelope did?
“I doubt it,” she said with a firm shake of her head, causing her mass of hair to wave about as she finally addressed Tses comment about her experiences. “Police people killed my parents in front of me.”
