The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Together they ran, enjoying the cool air of the day and stopping at the first enclosure of animals, then moving on to the next, and then to the next. The strange thing was, though, with as much fun as Penelope was indeed having, she just couldn’t shake that paranoid feeling. She was sure that someone was watching her…and rather closely too!
Leaning to look into the sea lion habitat, she paused in her watching of the animals when she felt those eyes on her again. Someone was there, they had to be. She turned sharply on her heel and peered through the crowd. Around her, people were walking, talking, watching animals, but no one was really paying any particular attention to her. But if so, then why was she feeling like this? It was just strange because Penelope wasn’t the suspicious type.
“What’s wrong, Baby Girl?” Lilith asked with concern.
Penelope blinked as she looked up at her sister. For a moment she was silent before she just shook her head and put on a brave smile. She didn’t want to ruin this perfect day by making Lilith paranoid about everything. Maybe, in the end, it really was just all her own imagination. If so, her imagination needed to stop.
“Nothing, Lily,” she said with her patented smile. “Um, just, you know, thought I saw someone I knew from school.”
Lilith smiled and nodded in returned. It seemed as if she bought that as a reason and turned back to the frolicking sea lions.
Penelope, meanwhile, turned her gaze momentarily back towards the crowd. She tried to pass off her suspicions as just being imaginary but something told her to stay on her guard. For whatever reason, she felt like she was being watched and that could never be a good thing.
Penelope was so excited. She bounced the whole time that she was standing in line with Lilith, waiting for their turn to purchase tickets and step inside the zoo. She could already smell the animal-like smell in the air that wafted out from deep within the heart of the place. The habitats were so beautiful and the animals so regal. She absolutely loved to wander from place to place, looking over each and every creature as they looked up at her curiously. Though it had a been awhile since she been here, it was almost like she was returning home.
It was comfortable.
Before long their tickets had been bought and Penelope dashed inside the zoo the second that she had hers in hand. Obviously she wouldn’t really leave Lilith behind, but she was just so excited that she couldn’t contain herself. She had to run in, smiling and jumping by herself in the air.
Ahh, this was such a normal thing to do. She was happy to participate in something that was just all around…normal.
But, sitting there, she had to give herself pause. A strength sensation crept up the back of her spine, a feeling like she was being watched or something. It was strange. Normally Penelope was far too excitable to really feel senses of paranoia. But if that were the case, why was she feeling it now.
Hmm…
Shaking the feeling off after she glanced among the ground, Penelope shrugged and smiled once again to Lilith who was catching up.
“Come on, Lily!” she beamed. “I wanna see the penguins!”
Penelope sighed. She was happy. For the first time in a long time, she was happy. She was enrolled at Xavier’s Sister School and she felt more belonged than any other time in her life. Even when she was living with her parents, it was obvious that she didn’t fully belong. But now, now it seemed as if she finally had a life of her own. She could be happy at the mansion, she knew she could.
But that didn’t mean she couldn’t have a day or two with her sister. Though she was sure that life was probably easier for Lilith now that she was not at home as often, that still needed to have some time together. After all, Penelope didn’t want to say good bye to her sister forever.
Today was one of those days. After a week of schooling, Penelope wanted to spend the weekend with Lilith. Movies, mall shopping, maybe food of some sort, she didn’t care! So long as they got to be together.
That was why, when Lilith offered to take to her to Central Park to visit the zoo, Penelope jumped at the offer. Today would be a good day.
Standing next to her sister in line, Penelope smiled happily as she looked up at Lilith. Her sister looked so…relaxed. Maybe it really was a good thing that she decided to stay at the mansion more often
That was good. She would do anything for her sister.
“Thank you, Lily,” she said with a beaming smile. “I hope we have fun today.”
Penelope didn’t understand what was going on. One second she was standing there, in the middle of the living room and laughing and giggling as Victoria was being moved around the room thanks to Miles’ dogs. The very next second all mayhem was occurring. Tables were falling over, glasses were breaking, and Victoria was screaming. She watched in horror as her new friend was being buffeted around the room in complete and utter madness and Penelope was silent with terror.
What the heck was going on!?
“Miles! What’re they do—“
SMASH!!!
Penelope jumped and covered her mouth in horror as Victoria was sent hurdling through the window by the two dogs. Instantly her heart was filled with fear as imaginable images began to bombard Penelope’s mind. What happened to her friend? Where was she?
Miles was the first out of the window to and charging away from the mansion. Was he running to get away from the scene? What a horrible babysitter!! Penelope, firmness on her face, ran over to the window and looked out.
Oh…he was running to see where Victoria was. Good. She wanted to like him.
>> "Penny! Come out through the door, don't risk the broken glass! I need a hand here to move Victoria!"
“Um, okay!!” Penelope shouted as she dashed to the nearest door. She crossed her fingers and hoped and prayed that Victoria was okay…
Lilith smiled as she watched Penelope run off and disappear in some hallway that must have surely led to the kitchen. Lilith had been inside the mansion only once before but she was so preoccupied with whether it was a mistake or not exposing her sister to such a place that she didn’t get to take all of it in. But, now that this was their only option, she paused and took in the scenery. It certainly was beautiful…and homey.
She was suddenly beginning to get the feeling that if anyone could offer Penelope a safe haven…it was here.
Her attention returning to the older woman, Lilith smiled a little nervously as she tried to get her bearings. What was there really left for he to say? They were desperate but she didn’t want the woman to think that that was the only reason they were here. Maybe she should have said something different?
>> "We are a mutant school…We do very well with desperate. But before we go into the details... do you want to tell me a little bit more about your side of the story?"
Lilith side. It was no good keeping anything from her. After all, if this place could help Penelope, it was probably best that she just come out with it.
“I…I don’t know much about what Penelope went through,” she admitted. “Other than what she told me. But Penelope is such a ray of sunshine that it is difficult for to say anything negative. But…I know what I went through…”
She thought for a moment. Pausing, she played with the hem of her shirt before she took another relaxing breath and went on.
“Her…or rather…our parents were some rather nasty mutant supremacists back up in Washington D.C., went by the names Hellfyre and Goldfox,” she muttered. “They did everything they could for mutants and harmed whatever humans they could. The biggest thing of their lives was that they wanted to continue to proud, mutant bloodline with their children. I was their first failure.” Lilith shrugged. If Ms. Taylor didn’t catch from that that Lilith was 100% human, well, she should. “I was kicked out and I have been living in New York since I was 18. Honestly I didn’t even know they had Penelope until…well…IT happened. She won’t talk about it either. All I can gather is that some SWAT tracked down our parents, broke into their house to arrest them, and all hell broke loose. They killed our parents…right in front of her…”
Lilith sniffled…she hated her parents. But no one, no one should have to see their parents die in front of them…
Jezebel grinned…wide! She had done it! Even from her distance she could see that her make-shift javelin had struck its mark. She saw the woman go down onto the ground and quickly the red Amazon began to pick up her pace. She was not going to allow this little witch to get away from her. Not after she had actually attempted to attack her! Who did she think she was? She was one cheeky human being, that was for sure.
Damn goodie two-shoes! She had enough of that from Penelope that she didn’t need it from this woman as well! Oh yes, she was going to make her pay for this.
The woman scrambled forward, trying to reach for something but the all red woman simply didn’t care. She was already closing the gap between them so she had no doubt she was going o die by her hand tonight. She could reach for whatever she wanted, but none of it was going to matter. Even that little toothpick she pretended was a sword was no good.
This fight was done.
“Heheheh,”[/b] she laughed. “Come on you little b****! I thought you wanted my attention,” she said as she reached over and grabbed a newspaper vending box that was bolted into the concrete. After a few quick tugs, she ripped it clean from the ground and raised it high above her head. She smirked as she glowered towards the woman, quickening her step in order to get this over with. “I’ll show you what happens when you mess with a mutant!!”[/b]
She growled and charged forward, arching the newspaper box back and ready to bring it down on the woman’s head as hard and fast as she could.
Penelope moved her way over to the dark mound that made Victoria’s resting place. She had heard that Victoria was extremely sensitive to the sunlight, something to do with her powers, so it really didn’t make a whole lot of sense for her to come on this trip. But, considering that Victoria probably wanted to hang out with friends, she could understand why she wanted to go. Besides, once they were inside, it should be safe, right? Art museums didn’t have a lot of windows, did they?
Well, she didn’t know. She assumed though!
Back to the situation at hand, though, she could only imagine what it was like for young Victoria. To have to hide in the darkness like that, unable to talk or chat with the rest of the friends that she had already made at the mansion. It was sucky. But Miles was right, that didn’t mean they couldn’t talk to her!
Penelope beamed a she plopped into the seat next to Victoria’s shadowy fort.
>> "Hey, Victoria. It's Miles…The bus is moving and we're halfway there, I guess. You're not missing much where scenery is concerned. Once we get there, you won't need the shadow fort, so don't worry and don't be scared. Also, I brought you a friend...You've got lots of friends here and we're all looking after you."
“Yeah!!” Penelope beamed happily! She waved at the fort, momentarily forgetting that Victoria probably couldn’t see her action. Not wanting to move or mess up the protection that Victoria had, Penelope tried to steer clear of it, but leaned in enough so Victoria could hear her. “Don’t worry, Victoria! I got your back! And we’re going to have FUN once we get there!”
Jezebel stormed after the braid-wearing, sword carrying woman as she disappeared into a sea of cars. She was getting very angry now. For whatever reason, this woman was really touching a raw nerve with her. It was probably because she was some ridiculous human who attempted to stand up to her, as well as came at her with a sword. Jezebel truly didn’t appreciate that. No human had any right to do anything like that to her; a mutant! It was just…not right!
She snarled at the very thought of it! What made it worse, though, was the idea that she might had lost her. She couldn’t handle that. No one showed a mutant like her such disrespect! No one!!
Her lips twisting into a hiss, she growled and snapped her head left and right, ebony locks flying around her features as she sought for the woman’s location. She had no idea where she could have gone to, so where could she have gone?! Angry took over and her eyes began to blaze in waves of molten yellow. Flashing dangerously, she shoved cars away, stomped on hoods, and punched in windshields. She was somewhere! But where!?
“Where are you!?!” she snapped angrily and kicked another car.
A domino effect of cars smashing into one another assaulted her ears. Then, as if by chance, Jezebel turned sharply to see someone out of the corner of her eye. Standing, on the top of a car hood, was a flash of steel and long braid of hair.
Her eyes narrowed and Jezebel suddenly stomped in the direction of the familiar looking woman. She rushed as fast as she could, nudging away cars, swinging the car bumper that she had ripped from a different car into anything in her path. Within moments she then watched the woman stumble and Jezebel knew she had to take advantage of it.
Hefting up the bumper, she focused squarely on the woman before she hurled it with all her great strength like a javelin. It would hit. It had to…right?
>> "I'm thinking that Hello Kitty has never been quite this interesting."
Jezebel. Smirked.
Her initial thought of this woman was that she really didn’t know what to think of her. She knew that Penelope liked her, but what so what? Penelope liked everyone; she definitely was not the best judge of character. But Jezebel, on the other hand, had a far more scrutinizing eye. And both those yellow cores were aimed directly at Tses.
And they found that they liked her. She passed round one.
Arms crossed over her massive chest, the red Amazon, sneered as she twisted her neck to the side to crack it and relieve some of the tension. She could feel Penelope twisting and trying to wriggling back some control, but Jezebel wasn’t ready, at all, to go back into the hole. She was anxious to stretch her legs since it seemed like a piece since she was last allowed a chance to skip out and play. She needed this right now.
Raven black hair stretching down the length of her very nude body. She really needed to always make sure that Penelope had some extra clothes for her on occasions like this! But, she could find something, even here.
Jezebel smiled wickedly to the young woman as she seemed to be staring back at her. Both were obviously attempting to gauge the other. So far Jezebel liked Tses; she hoped she wouldn’t be proven wrong in that respect.
>> “Are you one of those goody two shoes mutants,, or would you be opposed if I liberated something from that lonely little cash cage?"[/color]
Her wicked, full-lipped grin stretched even more. Uncrossing her arms, she gave a tiny bow to the woman as she gestured to the register.
“By all means,” she muttered. “I guess I should leave SOME stuff to the imagination.”[/b] She cackled wildly as she hunched down, stepping across the store and knocking over anything that happened to get in her way.
She hummed as she peered over the clothing section, leaving Tses to do as she pleased with whatever money she happened to “find”. In the mean time, Jezebel grabbed the largest sweatshirt and sweatpants she could find and managed to somehow slip them on. Though they were still vastly smaller on her than they should be, at least they covered her up some. Though she had to admit that she probably looked like some Hello Kitty-themed tramp, with a sweatshirt that barely fit over her bosom and sweatpants that probably looked like short-shorts now, she really didn’t care.
Penelope blinked as she felt herself stirring. Slowly she was awakening to the sounds of nature in the morning outside her window. The birds were singing, the trees were rustling, and the glow of the warm sun as it filtered in through her window and stroked her cheek was enough to cause her to stir with large smile. She felt so…refreshed. It was as if this were the first time that she had managed to sleep good in ages.
And she was thankful for it.
Another yawn fell from her lips as she sat up in bed, casually tossing aside her blankets. However she slept, she knew that she slept very restfully. It was almost as if an extreme weight were taken off her shoulders; like, she was given a second chance at life. Pretty good for someone so young.
Maneuvering herself out of bed, Penelope sighed happily as she stepped out onto the cool floor of her room, leaned back, and stretched out her arms as far as she could go. Another yawn and she smiled as the sensation of her muscles loosening up so easily. It felt so good and she was in SUCH a good mood! She absolutely couldn’t believe it.
And best of all…she remembered everything she dreamed. She hoped that it was not just a mere dream but that it had actually occurred. She willed it to be real.
But she would have to wait and see.
For now…she was very hungry.
“I think I want pancakes today,” she said to herself with a firm nod and smile. She would get Lily to make her pancakes today. Mmm good…
It took a couple of minutes for Penelope to explain and re-explain everything but eventually it seemed as if Jezebel were catching on. The truth was that Penelope really didn’t want to live her life as a zombie, nor did she want to kill Jezebel. It was merely a length she were willing to go to if she had to in order to ensure some type of peace in her life. But, she had a different plan in mind and was hoping that Jezebel would take the deal.
She explained that in exchange for no longer coming out in front of other people, crowds, or on camera, pretty much any way that would implicate Penelope herself, Penelope would allow Jezebel to come out and play at certain times. During these times, she could do whatever she wanted, again, so long as none of it ever came back to her.
It was a simple enough deal. Namely, Penelope would trade in a bit of her morality in exchange for a chance to keep Jezebel on a short leash. It was the best and only way that she could even consider living a normal life. By setting aside specific days and times for Jezebel to come out, that could at least offer her some freedom to plan accordingly. And while that may not have been the best of all possible options, it was a chance, wasn’t it? The only thing that Penelope ever wanted out of life was a single chance to live a good one.
Hopefully, with Jezebel leashed, she would get that. So long as the red Amazon actually took the deal.
The silence between them was long, rough, and just slightly enough to make Penelope a bit anxious. She was banking a lot on Jezebel’s answer. Her chance to have a good life at her new school, to grow up even slightly normal, all of it was based on whatever answer Jezebel gave.
But she didn’t rush her. Instead, she was quiet and let the Amazon think.
Eventually, Jezebel did raise her head and looked Penelope square in the eye. After a beat…she nodded firmly.
The look of absolute shock and terror on Jezebel’s face was priceless. Not that this situation was at all humorous, but it was exactly the picture that Penelope wanted. She wanted Jezebel to be scared, to be curious, to not know what was going to happen to her. The reality was that Jezebel was so wrapped up in herself that she never figured that Penelope would do something like this. Even if she did manage to break away and take over Penelope’s body, she wouldn’t have it forever. Eventually Penelope would get her hands on those medications, and eventually Jezebel would cease to exist all together.
Eventualities were the worst of fears to have. And Jezebel had them in spades.
Oh my god, she breathed as she looked away from Penelope. Standing up, she began to back away from her, terrified beyond all belief. Oh my god! I…I don’t want to die! I don’t wanna die!! I DON’T WANNA DIE!!!
Tears flooded out of those golden hued eyes as the red Amazon found herself staggering left and right, no idea of the direction she wanted to walk. All of it was too much for her to comprehend right now.
Penelope, though, remained quiet, simply watching the towering woman as anxiety completely wracked through her body. As the red one stopped and finally curled up into a ball on the ground, shivering and shaking, Penelope felt a pang of sympathy. She knew then that she would have to make the deal now or everything was lost.
Scooting out of her chair, Penelope stepped onto the ground and slowly made her way to the shivering woman. Stepping up to her, she paused for a second before she knelt down and causally began to run her fingers through her hair, humming a nameless tune that her mother once hummed to her. The gesture seemed soothing enough to cause Jezebel to look up, her eyes wide and terrified. For a fraction of a second, Penelope could have sworn that she could see through those fiery yellow orbs and spy the one thing she thought she’d never see…herself.
A soft smile filled Penelope’s lips as she leaned down and wrapped her arms around Jezebel’s neck. In doing so, she squeezed affectionately before she sighed and spoke up.
We’re connected, Jezzie, she said with a nod. Deep down we’re both a little bit of each other.
T-T-Then… Jezebel sniffled. W-W-W-Why do you wanna kill me?!
Shhhh, I don’t, Penelope whispered with a small smile. The revelation caught Jezebel off guard as she turned her attention fully onto the young girl now, tears still staining her cheeks. After a beat, Penelope stroked Jezebel’s hair and continued, What I want to do…is make a compromise.
It was a gamble. Penelope knew it was. But the second that she saw the look on Jezebel’s face, she knew that she couldn’t go back. It was a big risk, especially since her plan involved things that she didn’t fully understand or even think would work, but Jezebel was not really the brightest of bulbs. Yeah, she was strong, passionate, but use enough big words and she gets frustrated enough to believe anything. Penelope knew that about her alter ego and knew well enough to play up things as best she could. Jezebel had to buy it. She just had to.
You’re bluffing! Jezebel said indignantly. You’re downright lying!
Nope, Penelope said without missing a beat. Hesitation would show through her gambit. She couldn’t afford to sound like she didn’t know what she was talking about. There’s medicine, Jezebel. Medicine that won’t make me mad or angry or scared anymore. If I take that, do you think you’ll ever come out again? You need me to be mad to come out, don’t you?
Penelope kept her expression stoic.
Jezebel was anything but. It looked as if she were going to rage all over the dreamscape again, but she didn’t This time there was no anger fueling her strength and passion, she was instead flooded to the brim with fear. Fear as her small mind raced to search her limited capacity for anything that at all sounded like what Penelope was talking about.
And she did. TV commercials advertised this kind of thing all the time. Medication to make one no care about the world anymore; that’ll devoid them of emotions. Would Penelope really do that to herself? Worst of all, would Jezebel even exist if Penelope was doped up like that?
Jezebel growled.
You wouldn’t! she cried angrily, but it was tinged with a whiff of desperation. You wouldn’t do that to yourself, Pen! You’d…you’d be a zombie!!!
Penelope was quiet for a moment, thinking to herself, as if contemplating everything that Jezebel had said. But in truth, she was just trying to pause for dramatic effect. She really didn’t know if such a drug would even be available to her. After all, what doctor in his right mind would give such medication to a minor? But, she supposed anything was possible. It was the idea of there being the smallest chance of it being true that aided her right now. And she would use it.
I’d rather live like that…than have to watch you take my world apart.
A string of curses and explecatives flew from Jezebel’s mouth at the tone of Penelope’s voice. It was enough to cause the ears of an innocent to suddenly burst into flames. But it was foul language that Penelope had heard many times before and clearly not something that she was unused to. Once Jezebel was done with her rant, the red Amazon growled before she plopped down into her seat, her arms still crossed as she glared across the expanse of this dream world.
Penelope, seeing that Jezebel was in fact done, sighed as she continued to watch her. Another few minutes would pass before she would finally clear her throat and continue on.
Good she said, making sure that Jezebel was finally in check. It was odd; wherever this confidence was coming from felt good. She hoped it would last. As I was saying, we have a problem.
What problem? Jezebel grumbled in response.
The problem that you are causing. You can’t just hurt people whenever you feel like it, especially when it pulls ME in.
Psh! Just don’t want to get your hands dirty. Your parents would roll over in their graves if they saw you talking, no less making friends, with humans!
Stop! No more! Penelope said pleadingly. This needs to stop, Jezebel. It has to. I can’t let you ruin my life anymore.
Jezebel twitched, sneered, and eyed Penelope closely. Oh yeah? And what’ll you do to stop me? You said yourself we’re bound together. So what could you POSSIBLY do?
Take away the one thing you’ve been after this whole time, Penelope whispered fearfully. You’re freedom.
Calmly Penelope sat there, taking on the full heat of the creature’s anger. She was not surprised. It was always Jezebel’s fallback to rage and be mad at the things that she was made at. If she so much as stubbed her toe on a chair, Jezebel would shatter it into as many small pieces as she could manage. It was just her way.
But, sitting there, being called “this” and “that” and feeling the spittle of the red woman splatter against her face, Penelope found herself surprisingly….not scared. Instead she just sat there, in her seat, staring up and the huffing, puffing monster that seemed so hell bent to ruin her life.
If Jezebel had had her way, she would have killed every last person at that school. Penelope, obviously, was not going to allow that.
ARRRRGGHHHH!!!! Jezebel screamed and started smash and stomp on the ground. Cracks were quickly becoming visible but it was not something that Penelope was worried about. Instead, she sat in silence and waited for the tantrum to pass…which it eventually did.
Not long after her raging started, Jezebel finally came to a halt, slamming her fist into the ground one last time before she straightened back up and crossed her arms over her chest. With a huff she turned her angry gaze back onto the young girl.
Penelope, after Jezebel was done, still continued to sit calmly before she raised her gaze to meet the molten yellow eyes. With a small twitch of her mouth, she sighed.
