The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The other boys were sneering at them! What right did they have to be at all angry? They were the ones that picked the fight with a nice boy like Chase in the first place and now all she had done was stick her tongue out at them. That really did not deserve for them to get angry enough to want to come over here and stir up any trouble. Then again, Penelope did stick her tongue out again so maybe that was enough to rile them up. Bah, boys could never take a joke…
They stormed closer and closer and out of the corner of her eye, she spied Chase. He was tense but he looked ready to pounce the very second that he could. She would wait until he was ready before she jumped.
Her heart thudded in her chest. She didn’t know if this was going to work. If it didn’t, she could hurt these boys by accidentally landing on them, or she could hurt herself! But it really seemed like their only way out of this situation. They were small, the both of them, so they could definitely be fast. They just needed to clear this space.
When they were close enough, Penelope saw the tensing of Chase’s body and knew that now was the time! She had kicked her legs, gained as much speed and momentum as she could before suddenly she swung forward and launched herself out of the seat. The sensation of flying that tickled her stomach was still there but it was to such a degree that she just didn’t care anymore! It coursed throughout her system, made her giggle as she enjoyed her weightlessness before gravity pulled her back down to her bosom.
Before she knew it, she heard the screams of alarm and felt the hard thud of her shoes crumpling onto the sand. She staggered but, surprisingly, she was on her two feet! She made it! She grinned wide as she turned and spied Chase; apparently he had made his landing too. It seemed like the perfect moment for a victory hug but she spun around to see their nemesis.
>> “You laughing at us? Crazy little brat!”
>> “Run! Come and get me, stupid-heads!”
Chase bolted off and Penelope grinned. She was about to turn and run too when suddenly the larger boy stepped up to her. He opened his mouth as if he was about to say something particularly cruel or to shout to his cronies to get her. She never gave him the chance.
Boldly Penelope suddenly grinned as she reared back and attacked with her most deadliest weapon…her colorful size 5 sneaker. Lashing out, she suddenly kicked, hard, in the boy’s shin which caused him to scream and hop around comically on one leg.
Penelope stuck her tongue out again.
“Don’t be a mean-face!!” With that she turned and chased after Chase. She giggled as the lead bully hopped around, cursing behind her before he suddenly pointed at both herself and Chase and yelled at his cronies. Quickly those two began pursuit as the swift-legged Penelope caught up with Chase and giggled. “They’re Chasing us, Chase!”
>> “Yes, of course my dear…You can get anything you want to eat from the dining hall at anytime day or night. So after you’re done with your late night ventures you can grab a bite to eat here.”
Jezebel liked this idea a lot. It was hard for her to find a safe place to hangout, especially after the brand of “fun” that she tended to get herself into. It would be nice to have some place where she could run to, to rest and relax after her excitements. Lilith didn’t like it when Jezebel returned to the house, not that the red skinned beauty cared. If anything that was probably one of the only things that actually kept her coming back, annoying Lilith.
She hated humans and Lilith was one definitely one of them. She still could not believe that Penelope was actually related to that woman by blood. Ick, to be related to a human of all things! But…she made Penelope a promise to not harm her, despite everything that humans did to their family, she vowed that Lilith was not going to ever receive her anger.
But that didn’t mean she couldn’t make her life a living hell. Which she did on a regular basis.
They continued on and Jezebel was enamored with the idea of getting something to eat. She needed to keep this body fueled, after all, or it would only lessen the amount of time she got to spend out and about. But, of course she was asked to display her prowess and Jezebel was only too happy to oblige. The look on Syn’s face was both priceless and well enjoyed.
She liked this woman.
>> “Ah! So you despise the humans as well. I think we’ll get along wonderfully my dear Jezebel.”
A wide grin swept across her features as she nodded to the much smaller woman. It was about time she ran into another human who seemed to dislike humans as much as she did. So many mutants were either hiding or trying to “unify” the world! Pssh! It was such bull! Jezebel was only too happy to show them all the error of their thoughts.
“Dear Syn,” she smiled as she offered her arm in a gentlemanly way (despite the fact that she was a woman). “I do believe this is the start of a rather WONDERFUL relationship. Please…lead the way, and tell me about yourself. You look like you might be quite a hellraiser yourself.”
Penelope laughed as she threw comments in response that there was no way he was going to swing higher, that he was too slow, so on and so forth; it was the usual, good natured, child smack talk. In reality, Penelope was having an absolutely blast. She rarely, if ever, allowed herself to swing high on the swings. It tickled her stomach and made her want to laugh uncontrollably. But the sensation made her heart race so much that she rarely allowed herself to do this.
Jezebel likes things that make her heart race. That is why Penelope usually avoids them; it keeps Jezebel away. But right now she just didn’t care. The boy had thrown down a challenge so she had to meet it. She grinned as she swung higher.
It was as she was coming back down that she noticed that Chase had stuck his tongue out too and this seemed to have riled up the boys on the other end of the playground. Instantly Penelope’s eyebrows raised as they turned and started to storm directly towards them.
>> “They’re walking over here,”
Penelope nodded. She didn’t want to get into or cause any trouble but it seemed as there was no way to avoid this. God, boys were so WEIRD! But just as she tried to figure out what she was going to say, Chase spoke up again.
>> “Do you think we’d be able to jump over their heads, and make a break for it when they get too close?”
The young girl twisted her lips into a thoughtful look. This was obviously a very important question; but to the mind of a child, it seemed like the most logical thing to do! Of course they would be able to make it. Those people in movies do this kind of stuff all the time and they are now swinging off of swings. Besides, if there was anything that Penelope liked more than a good swing, it was running. She was good at running.
She nodded to Chase. It was a plan.
"Run for the play area?" she asked, motioning to all the slides, jungle gyms, and various other attractions for children to climb all over. They could easily run and swing through all those things to lose their pursuers if they tried to chase them.
She looked up and the three boys started to get closer. Penelope could always see the whites of their eyes down. It was only when they were close enough to see her clearly and Penelope grinned and waved at them. They just needed to get a little closer…
Penelope beamed happily. She loved making new friends! Though she and the boy just met, he seemed extremely nice and Penelope prided herself in surrounding herself with nice and helpful people. Too many bad things happened in her life to think about them and good people were always a wonderful distraction.
She sighed as she finished the last of her chocolate, not really wanting the candy to end, but it must. Still, that last bite was glorious and it sent a little shiver down her spine. Already she was anticipating the next time that she could having candy all to herself; well, maybe not ALL to herself. She would be happy to share with Chase if he ever wanted to.
>> “I haven’t been friends with a girl before…What do girls do for fun? I don’t have to play with dolls, do I?”
A lyrical giggle fell from her lips.
“We don’t have to,” she said, a little laugh still on her lips from his comment. She did have a collection of dolls and stuffed animals already, but she knew that was not something that boys were interested in. “We can do other stuff.” Penelope was actually a pretty adventurous child so she was sure that they could play outside or play games. It was a world of possibilities.
She continued to swing just a little higher. Chase had been whipping about so erratically that a couple of times he almost bumped into her. He seemed to catch onto this, though, righted himself, and continued to swing normally. Her lips stretched into a smile as they began to swing in tandem. Fingers wrapped around the chains, she peered at Chase, chuckling whenever they caught each other’s eye and turned away to look forward.
It was only when she did this that she caught sight of that “stupid boy” that had been making fun of Chase on the monkey bars. He was watching the both of them and sneering; quickly he elbowed his friends and nodded in the direction of Chase and Penelope.
The girl only stuck her tongue out at him as she continued to swing. No, that wouldn’t have repercussions at all…
>> “I’d be surprised if she catches up to your height my dear Jezebel. As for her way of thinking…that may change…possibly…You’re right about our styles meshing. That outfit definitely suits you.”
Jezebel grinned and offered Syn a coy winked followed by a pose. If there was anything that got to her head faster than compliments, she didn’t know it. She just loved to hear good things about herself, especially when it came from another mutant. At least that is what she assumed Syn to be. In a building surrounded by mutants, it would have been silly if she was not. But Jezebel said nothing on that and trusted that the woman would reveal her true nature in due course.
“Thank you, darling,” she blew the woman a kiss before she straightened up. She really was antsy now and needed some form of entertainment. She doubted that this place really wanted her to find her own.
>> “Yes we have food here as well as a gym, recreation area, training area and there are plenty of other mutants here as well. If you’d like we can get you something to eat first and go from there.”
“By all means, lead the way,” she smirked. Food was part of the fuel that kept Jezebel going, that and adrenaline. So far she was having a grand time and her curiosity about this place was indeed peeked. A house for wayward mutants should have a laugh or two ready for her.
But before she could go on, she was halted by Syn yet again.
>> “Besides being part of Penelope and your outstanding physique. Do you have other qualities my dear Jezebel?”
She smirked. This woman certainly did enjoy her showcases. But, Jezebel was only too happy to oblige so long as there was praise and attention attached to it as well.
“Oh, I’m a woman of many talents,” she sneered.
Out of the corner of her eye she spotted a rather nice looking metallic vase. It gleamed in the light and held a variety of flowers, no doubt simply put up for decoration to make this place seem less imposing. Casually Jezebel removed the pretty tulips, tossed them aside and held the vase out to show Syn. Then, gripping the vase with both hands…she twisted.
The rendering sound of metal screaming cut through the air. Jezebel successfully, with her own two hands, managed to collapse the vase and twist it into a painful looking shape. It was obvious that along with her massive size and dense musculature, she was also quite strong. She crumbled the opening of the vase as easily as if it were made of plastic and handed it over to Syn for her to inspect herself. Once the woman was satisfied, Jezebel grinned.
“And that’s nothing,” her smirk grew darker with malicious enjoyment. “You should have seen what I did to this one disgusting human’s hand!! HEHEhahahHEHahaha!” she cackled and sighed, shaking her head. “He had the nerve to touch me; the insect.”
Jezebel had to sigh. It felt so good to break away from that little brat whenever she had the chance. The young girl always tried to keep her from having her fun but Jezebel needed to do this. She was not going to allow herself to be wrangled in, especially when that little girl had so much growing up to do! That was the problem, she was too trusting, too little, and she liked humans way too much! For Jezebel, Penelope was something broken that needed to be fixed. Eventually she would see things her way but she would rather that happen sooner than later.
In the mean time, Jezebel relished the chances that she got to explore the world and cause as much mayhem for humans as possible. They took away her parents and stomped on their ideals; so she would drive them all into the ground like railroad spikes!
Another stretch and she placed her hands on her hips.
>> “Very impressive and beautiful my dear! I had a feeling little Penelope didn’t stay little considering the clothing she was in when she was found.”
“Thanks, sweetheart,” she said with a wink. “Yeah, obviously I’m waiting for her to catch up to me.” she cackled at the thought of that. Such a thing seemed impossible but one never knew with mutants.
Jezebel grinned as the woman procured the clothing that she had arrived it. She took it back and slipped on the form fitting leather pants, the boots, and the jacket that barely zipped up enough to cover her chest. She cracked her neck to the side and flexed her fingers, working out the last kinks from forming herself.
“Glad you’re so impressed. You’re a pretty one, yourself,” she smirked as she peered around the room. “So, please tell me you have something fun to eat, drink, or do around this place. I’m feeling a little…antsy…”
Penelope grinned as she watched the boy use the swing for every other movement than simply going back and forth. He seemed to be rather enjoying himself, just spinning in circles or latching onto the legs of the swing before causing him to spinning in another direction. She had to marvel at his prowess for swinging in any way but traditional. She giggled a little when he finally unwound the chains enough to face her.
>> "You're really nice, too. For a girl."
She tilted her head. That seemed like a compliment but it quickly could have been taken has offensive. But Chase seemed to catch himself as he stumbled over his own words…
>> "-I mean, you're nicer than most or all boys, but girls aren't usually nice. They're weird. But you're kind-of.... not. You're nice."
She beamed a bit in response.
It was nice to know that the boy looked at her as being nice. She was happy for that. She had run into girls before and a lot of times, they really were weird. They giggled listening to songs by that Justine Beaver person and liked to make friends with one another that were mean to everyone else. Of course that was not all girls, but it did seem to be the trend these days when she was in school. She made the stink face again at that thought.
But she pushed it away as she turned to Chase. He really was nice.
“We know our names and we had chocolate,” she grinned. “I guess that makes us friends? Wanna be friends?” she asked, rather bluntly. But one who dressed as colorfully as she did had a right to be blunt. Besides, it made sense, they were both nice and they could be nice together!
>> “Well then, why not show me your loveliness my dear?”
Jezebel grinned. She had thought the young woman would have never asked. Jezebel was only too happy to show off for people that did not know her, especially if they asked nicely. Hell, if they didn’t ask nicely, she would show them anyways—and afterward rip off their arms.
The young girl with the big adult voice smirked as she turned her attention fully onto Syn. She was beginning to like this woman almost as much as Penelope was trusting her; but she was not as fooled as her alter-ego was. There was something about this woman that she was not fully expressing. But Jezebel didn’t say anything. She would just keep her suspicions at the back of her mind for now…
>> “You mean you haven’t heard my conversation with Penelope my dear Jezebel?”
She shrugged.
“I caught snippets,” she responded. A grin swept across her face as she tapped the side of her head. “Don’t always see and hear exactly what the other does. Hence…” she dropped her voice to a whisper as if revealing a secret. “…the reason why she can’t remember the fun I had the other night, hehe…hehe..hehehehe!”
She giggled to herself for a moment before she finally was able to calm herself down. She really did enjoy herself the other night. If it was not for the fact that she burned through her energy so quickly, she probably could have gotten another night of freedom from the little rug rat. But, fun does come at it’s cost. At least she had gotten some rest and was revving up for some more fun…
>> “I used to know a mutant who could transform his body. It was quite a sight to behold…”
Her head snapped at attention back to Syn. She tilted her head and listened to the woman speak.
>> “I’d imagine you’d be more impressive if you were taller. Although…a sassy adult voiced girl is a bit unusual I suppose.”
The sneered that floated across her features twisted her face into a most disturbing look. It was as if she had been asked to display her proudest and most best piece of work. Jezebel sincerely did love to show off and this woman was hitting all the right buttons to make that a reality. She turned fully to face the woman, grateful that there was at least a small amount of space between them. Hands hanging at the sides of her colorful skirt, she looked up at Syn…
“Oh…I’m so much more than a voice…”
Her expression momentarily changed to that of fear.
“No! Jezebel stop it! Not again!!”
She twitched into a face of arrogance.
“Shhhh, go to sleep,” she muttered to herself. “She wants a show…I’ll give her a ****ing show…”
Tension was apparent as it tore throughout the young woman’s body. Fists clenched, arms tight, legs bent, her mouth slowly opened into sickening grin as she rolled her head to the side. The panic and fear that she could feel from Penelope’s mind only fueled her more; it was like throwing bundles of coal into a smokestack. Once could practically see the black clouds flying out from the top of her head. The heat had blazed enough fully bring Jezebel into view.
Sweat dotted her forehead and her cheeks looked flushed with head. One would assume that she was straining to challenge a fever but stranger sight would soon befall them. From each of the girl’s pores, dots of red began to appear. These dots grew larger and spilled over until it looked as if the child was bleeding from every pore. But this ooze did not fall to the ground, instead it pooled together on her skin, connecting and bonding to one another like drops of water. Soon all of the goo had connected and covered her entire body into a mass; a mass that only continued to grow.
The defined shape that was form from the congealed ooze was that was a very tall woman, at least seven feet tall and with a very well defined musculature. Flowing, raven black hair spilled down past her shoulders with streaks of red like veins of blood coursing through. But most disturbing were the eyes. Replacing the panicked, honey colored eyes, was that of molten hot yellow. They almost glowed, as if they were tiny suns jammed into the sockets of the large, red female.
Towering over Syn, naked as a jaybird, but showing no signs of shyness, Mrs. Jezebel Tickle grinned as she stretched out and slowly ran her fingers through her hair as if she had just woken up from a nap. Lips sneering she nodded to the woman.
“This feels…SO much better,” she said as she nodded to Syn. “Mind if I have my clothes back?”
>> "My parents? I dunno. I mean, wouldn't telling my mom be tattle-taling?"
Penelope shrugged. She really didn’t care if it was called tattling or not. It got results, didn’t it? After all, wasn’t that better than handling the issue yourself? She was too well-versed in what happened when things were handled like that. There were plenty of opportunities in which she had to stand up for herself, especially after moving to New York. Sadly these all ended badly.
She shuddered at the memories of those and turned her attentions back to Chase.
>> "It's nothing. At my old school, I dealt with kids like him all the time."
She frowned silently. He had been picked on before? That…was not nice. She hated it when people were intentionally picked on. Bullies were just stupid and didn’t know how to by nice. That was why Penelope was friendly to everyone, less people to pick on her. Not only that but it kept herself from being picked on. Unfortunately, not everyone was as fortunate as her.
Out of the corner of her eye she watched Chase as he nibbled on chocolate. He seemed like such a nice boy. Why would anyone want to pick on him? Maybe because he was nice? Seemed silly but bullies like to use silly things as excuses. She shook her head as she reached over and patted his shoulder.
“Bullies are stupid,” she announced with a nod of her head. She the grinned and giggled a little at what she said. A little laughter helped any situation feel better. With a push, she began to swing as she kept her gaze on Chase. “You’re nice.”
Penelope Jezebel, smirked as she eyed Syn closely. The young girl tilted her head in a curious manner but the arrogant look on her face was all too disturbing. Those twisted, cruel lips twitched a little as she looked Syn up and down, as if judging whether or not this woman was actually worth her time talking to. Jezebel had heard the entire conversation that Penelope and Syn had so she knew what was going on. She was not as disturbed or clueless as Penelope was when she awoke.
So far, listening to the woman, eyeing her clothing, her stance, her demeanor, Jezebel had decided that she would allow herself to speak to her…
>> “You must be Jezebel. How delightful to meet you! From your tone you must be the one who likes black leather clothing. Though you’re much too small to wear the clothes Penelope was found in.”
Jezebel grinned as she straightened up her stance, almost as if she were trying to make herself look just a tad bit taller than she actually was.
“You obviously haven’t seen the best of me, sweetheart,” she responded in her surprisingly adult voice. Jezebel eyed Syn’s clothing and gently tapped the side of her head. “Seems we’d have meshing styles, though. Hehehe…”
Jezebel turned on her heel and began to wander around the room. She looked at everything with far less wonder and imagination than Penelope did. It was obvious that this personality was a far cry from the one that had been speaking to Syn mere moments ago. Jezebel carried herself with a confidence that did not seem befitting of her small stature. But that was only because her full power had not been unleashed.
There was time for that later. She needed to summon up the strength to form herself, though, since she was still be bit tired from her last excursion.
“So,” she started as she turned around, picking up a rainbow colored shirt that Penelope had considered wearing. She made a face of disgust and tossed it aside. “What is this place? Why are there so many mutants? Are you one too?”
>> “I’m sorry to hear that they were picking on you.”
Penelope nodded and dipped her head. Nobody liked to hear that kids were picking on other kids, unless the adult was particularly mean. Unfortunately what had been done was done and she just needed to move on. She could not dwell on what those girls had done, on anything that they said or snickered about, or how their hands hurt when they shoved her around. No, thinking about it would only make her situation worse right now. She could not rile up Mrs. Tickle.
She sighed and tried to breathe like her doctor had always told her to do whenever she started to feel upset.
>> “Jezebel? Who might that be dear?”
Penelope lowered her gaze as she continued to rub her fingers against one another. She needed her stuffed toy here but she didn’t even know where “here” was. What if she was really, really far from home? How angry was Lilith going to get with her for being gone so long?
“I…don’t like talking about her…” she mumbled a little absentmindedly.
Hehehehe…awww…why not?
She winced as she felt that laughter echo just a tad louder inside her head. Eyes tightly closed she covered her ears, trying to hum a happy song to herself.
“Go away…y-you’re tired…” she answered outloud instead of in her head like she meant to. Now it was going to look like she was talking to herself.
Awww, but someone wants to meet me.
“Shut up…”
So. Rude.
Penelope suddenly opened her eyes and turned to face Syn again. The dark princess that was so nice in helping her. If she could focus on her and her kindness then maybe it would be enough to keep Jezebel at bay until she could fall asleep again! It was a risky plan but it was the only thing that Penelope to think of to keep herself calm.
“Don’t talk to her, Princess Syn,” she begged. “Please, don’t talk to h—“
Her face twitched and suddenly a different expression washed over her face. Instead of sweet innocence, here was a look of malevolence and darkness. A was the type of expression that no person ever wanted to see on the face of a child; it was both saddening and quite disturbing. Eyes narrowed into suspicion as she looked up while her lips twisted into a sneer.
“Heheheheeh…” she replied in a voice that was entirely not hers, but that of a much darker, older individual. “…aren’t you a ****ing pretty sight. Hehehahahah!”
The question had been posed. Was this woman still a stranger? Penelope usually knew better than to talk to people she didn’t know but these events had been strange. She was nice to her so she had to be a good person! Also, a good person would tell her if they were still strangers to one another, a bad person wouldn’t. It all made sense!
Then, a lily white, soft hand was extended to her. Penelope looked at it briefly before she realized that the woman was introducing herself. She smiled a toothy grin as she reached out and shook it softly.
>> “My name is Syn. So now that you know my name we’re not strangers right?”
She thought…then she nodded with a smile. “I…think so. You are right!” Made sense! They knew one another’s names now! “It is nice to meet you…Syn,” she replied. Syn…that was an odd name. But she liked odd names. She remembered odd names much easier than regular names.
>> “You were out with your sister and what happened? Did you lose sight of her?”
She tilted her head. If only that was what happened! It would have made going home all that much easier. Usually, if Lilith did things that like, she was apologized to with ice cream. But, sadly, this was not the reasons for her being lost. This time it was another persons’ fault.
A shake of her head and her tight curls bounced as she looked down at her feet in the lime green flip-flops that she had picked out. Gently she curled and uncurled her toes as she tried to really decide just how much to tell. She didn’t like lying but she didn’t want to scare her new friend. She finally gulped as she looked up.
“No, last I remember…I was waiting for Lily to pick me up from the park. When…” her brow furrowed in thought. “Some older girls…they started to pick on me. They…they pushed me and I told them, I really told them not to! But…they wouldn’t stop laughing and…and…” she frowned as she pinched and rubbed her fingertips together, almost pretending that she still had. Mr. Tickle in her hand. “…they woke up Jezebel…”
Penelope to feel Mrs. Tickle in the back of her mind. The gates that normally held her back were creaking and shuddered as they struggled to hold her back. The only thing that was really keeping her at bay was the fact that she was still a little tired from her excursions last night. Whatever trouble Jezebel had gotten into, she burned herself out until she was down to an ember. That was probably why she passed out here instead of taking her all the way back home.
Jezebel must have had far too much fun last night. Penelope only hoped that she was still too tired to be able to break out.
A soft, malicious giggling echoed in the darkness of her mind, but Penelope did her best to drown it out. Her darker, red-skinned alter-ego was tired, but not tired enough to keep from talking.
>> “Who was supposed to take you home?”
She blinked as she was suddenly struck with the question. For half a moment she had forgotten about the pretty woman. She really should not have said as much as she did but she was not as cautious as she normally was because this situation was completely strange.
Softly she ran her fingers through her hair to brush the tight curls out of her eyes.
“I...I…can’t say,” she muttered as she nibbled her bottom lip. “M-My sister…Lily…she said I shouldn’t tell anyone about…her. Especially not a stranger…” She blinked as her mind was wracked with confusion. Was someone still a stranger if they had been so nice to her? Even saved her life by taking her to a doctor? She gnawed on the other side of her lip as she looked up at the woman. “A-Are you still a stranger?”
>> “Well, Penelope, I’m glad you’re feeling ok and thank you for the compliment. You’re a very sweet girl.”
Penelope beamed in response. People always said that she was very sweet, but Penelope never acted in any other way so she never understood if it was wrong for her to act this way. People did tend to seem surprised by her actions and it was surprise that the young girl never understood. But, still, she took the princess’ commentary as a compliment and smiled in response. She liked this woman. She seemed very nice…
>> “Why don’t we see about getting you some clothes that fit shall we?”
“Okay.” she responded as she scooted until she was at the edge of the table.
The doctor had come to help her but Penelope had hopped off and landed effortlessly on her bare feet. She smiled at the man in a “I-knew-I-could-do-it” sort of way. Quietly she circled around the table and took the young woman’s hand to be led away. While she was sure in the back of her mind something was screaming at her to not talk to strangers, she quieted that voice. After all, how could this woman be bad when she turned out to be so helpful. Surely only a good person would have helped her, right?
Penelope was led away and walked in marvel around the interior of the building. It was so big and beautiful that the young girl thought she was walking through a castle or something. On top of that, everyone in the building seemed to be just as helpful and nice, but the best part was that all of them were unique! They reminded her of her parents and the host of people they would always have over before they died. Different colored skin, animal parts, visible and invisible powers, all of it just made the girl’s head swim. It was all so pretty and impressive. For half a second Penelope believed that maybe, just maybe, she was still dreaming.
But the young woman her led her was real enough.
Soon they managed to find clothes and a place for Penelope to change. After looking through all the options, the young girl settled on an ensemble that consisted of a long-sleeved yellow top and a very colorful skirt that was printed with flowers that had caught her eye. Penelope had always been a fan of colors. It was only when she was changed did she finally feel like herself and stepped out to meet the pretty and young woman. She was not like Lilith at all…she smiled a lot! Penelope like that.
She did a little turn to show off the clothes and grinned.
>> “What were you doing out all alone last night my dear?”
Penelope shrugged as she began to wander around the room and look at knick-knacks here and there.
“I…I don’t know,” she said honestly.
It was weird. Normally she got at least glimpses of memories about what Mrs. Tickle did when she was out, but for whatever reason she simply was not remembering. It was frustrating to say the least. Sure she got to meet this nice person and see this awesome place, but Lilith was going to be mad.
She huffed and shook her head. She then turned to look at the woman earnestly. “She was supposed to take me home. I…I don’t know why she left me here.”
Because you belong here, Penelope. I belong here.
Penelope nibbled her lip as she tried to drown the voice out and turned back to Syn. Would she take her home?
