The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Aquarius stared in surprise and slight horror at her water shield...or more to the point, the slowly spinning piece of metal that had come close to piercing it. The bullet couldn't have been stopped more then inches from her; had she not reinforced it, that bullet could easily have been where her brain was instead. He...Simon...had almost gotten her with that last desperate attack.
She gave him credit for that.
On the other end of the spectrum, however, Simon had not been so lucky. Her viper had struck fast and precisely, connecting the sparking electricity to him through its own liquid body. The results erupted into a show for them to briefly see. Aquarius could feel him, through the water in his body and from the connection her viper had to him; could feel his body spasm and twitch and flail as the current ripped through his body. The light above sparked and flashed, giving momentary glimpses of him in the darkness, enough that Gemini besides her was able to fling a blade at him. It hit his shoulder when he had been aiming for his head, but he attributed that to the unpredictable spasms.
Aquarius had been readying to finish it, to end his suffering by turning her water into a blade...when fate decided it would be the decider of his fate.
Both Aquarius and Gemini barely had time to express surprise as Zeph suddenly jolted off the platform, seemingly fated to land on the tracks. He didn't even get that far; the train that had been slightly overdue finally made its arrival. It happened in an instant; one moment he was there, falling. The next, and with a sickening crunch, the train had him, hitting him with such force that his body was shot out of sight as the train sailed by, its brakes squealing as it tried to stop.
For a long moment, both of them stood there, silent, saying nothing. Aquarius felt out with her powers, searching for his water, searching for signs of life. But the arrival of so many people distorted her ability to pinpoint him accurately. She got vague impressions of something, unmoving, lifeless in every way, slightly down the tracks. But other then that...
"That...was a twist I didn't see coming. Is he dead?"
"I can't be certain...too many people to tell. But after that shock and being hit full on by a train, the possibility is very low. We'll have the soldiers come find the body later; for now, there are too many witnesses. We need to vanish."
"He wasn't nearly as tough as we expected. A shame. I was hoping our first mission would be more worthwhile." Pulling his hat down over his head to shield his face, Gemini slowly began exiting amongst the crowd, merely turning into another NY citizen. Behind him, Aquarius glanced back towards the tracks, her expression sad.
"A shame indeed..." Then she too was gone, vanishing into the masses like she'd been there all along.
Yet somewhere down the tunnel, something stirred. Something breathed. Someone lived.
The reaction of both the Zodiacs to the gunshot was instant; Aquarius pulled a portion of the water she'd brought forth in front of her, creating a barrier through which to block any shots her way. The barrier would slow or stop the bullet enough to make it a null threat to her. Gemini, meanwhile, managed to put himself behind the nearest column, far more exposed then his comrade to small arms fire. They had been trained well and it showed in the speed with which they moved.
So it came as a surprise when the bullet didn't come for them, but instead for the overhead lights, one bursting into sparks right before Aquarius's living water viper was about to strike its target. The combination of the shot and her reaction to it meant the viper missed its target, the creature reforming itself near her as she controlled the horde of water with a thought.
As the other light went out, pitching the station into near darkness, Gemini muttered quietly to his ally. "I can't pinpoint him; without that I won't be able to cripple his power. What should we do? He'll be a serious threat now."
Aquarius waited a moment before replying, calmly reaching out with her senses to find the body of water that was Zephyr. Her companion may have been at a loss here, but for Aquarius, it was only a momentary complication. There she mused to herself, the outline of a man coming into focus as she touched at the water within him. Smiling, she slowly started moving her viper forward.
"Fret not, dear Gemini. I can still see him...and I believe we have him in a corner. That last move probably took more out of him then he'll admit."
"Willing to bet our lives on that?" Gemini was, but he was cold and uncaring compared to some of this comrades.
"I'm willing to try failing then flee. Besides; the best way to counter a bluff is to tackle it head on." Smiling, she turned his focus into the darkness, her viper slowly creeping forward...in two parts. One headed towards one of the sparking lights...the other creeping towards its prey. "My dear Simon, you live up to your reputation. But if you think the darkness is your ally..." she said out into the dark, using her water to shield her still and distort her voice slightly..."then you truly don't understand my ability proper."
The viper struck in sudden fury, its tail end plunging into the light, electricity attacking the water with a force all its own. And all that force was streaking now to strike at Zephyr from behind, the viper's mouth exploding so that it could engulf the man's back...and give him a shocking surprise in return.
Kyle stood guard over the slowly moving Evelyn like a statue all his own, eyes out to the chaos around him, arms ready to strike or block at a moment's notice or to even grab her to bolt out of the way suddenly. His legs were just as ready, his entire body tense for incoming danger. He glanced to Evelyn when she finally spoke, the tension in his shoulders ease a little; at least she was still capable of talking.
With a hit like that, the chances of a concussion were pretty solid. It had obviously broken skin; there was a slow line of red sliding down the corner of her face. It had rung her bell good, that was for sure. It was like someone had hit the power button on her; she was barely moving and when she was, it was like she was remembering how her limbs worked.
"You sound like a computer; I'd make a comment about that, but this is hardly the time for it." He tried to sound calm and in good humor, hopefully to help her get back on her feet faster. In the meantime, he flashed another bolt out at a rider who got to bold for his own good before turning his eyes on a single point amidst the chaos; the mutant. As soon as Evelyn was ready or able to fend for herself for a moment, that man was his.
"Hate to rush that lovely brain of yours but there's sort of an art war going on here. And that bastard will get away if I don't get after him, but I'm not leaving you alone like this. So use your passion to protect your art...and get on your feet so we can crush him."
It didn't take long for Kyle to figure out where the second of the pair had gone. Kyle had faced his fair share of combat and that wealth of experience came in handy more often then any level of solid training did. So when he'd noticed the second enemy had vanished from his sight, both frontal and peripheral, Kyle's mind knew there was a highly likely direction damage would be coming from. Turning his body, he was....
He'd reacted about as fast as any man could...and it wasn't enough. The only thing that saved him was the fact that he'd brought up an arm to defend himself for a strike he expected was coming; it saved him from being crippled in a single hit at least.
The kick that smashed into his arm sent arcs of pain through his body as his arm almost buckled under the force of that kick. The pain was immense, enough to make most people buckle and cringe as a result. Kyle was different...but it didn't mean he didn't gasp out in pain. Gritting his teeth, Kyle shifted his arm so that some of the blow was shrugged off, backpedaling to the side as fast as he could to keep both enemies in sight this time. His left arm was close to useless; pain rocketed through it when he tried to move it.
So of course, he forced himself to bring it up in a weak guard while he kept his right arm as the fore-guard. A weak guard was better than nothing...and that arm could be used for something else as well. "If all you think I fight is weaklings, then you don't know jack about me." Eyeballing the pair, Kyle snapped open his left and right hand at the same time, unleashing two quick bolts of energy from them at either target before diving back over a nearby car. Distance was the advantage in this game, at least until he got a better idea of what he was up against.
For the moment the two men had approached him, Kyle had been expecting a fight to come. Two guys coming from either direction and clearly staring at him suggested little otherwise, although their reasoning for such an attack had a bit more variety. Muggers, perhaps, or guys belonging to someone he'd dealt with before. Which was interesting, considering he was often masked when dealing with criminals...but stranger things had happened. All said and done, Kyle's body was on high alert, ready to move at the slightest opportunity.
The loud roar from the bigger of the too made Kyle draw most of his attention to the man, keeping the other just in sight as he turned to face the immediate threat. The man was clearly going for a punch, drawing his arm back for the strike.
And he was ridiculously slow! True, he was faster than your average guy, but a fighter like Kyle had seen real speed before. This was nothing for him to dodge; Kyle merely jumped back a step or two to evade the brute's swinging fist, readying himself to strike ba...
All thoughts of moving in right after were silenced momentarily as the man's fist connected with the wall Kyle had been standing by. Instead of just simply stopping before hitting it and turning to face him, the man's fist went right into the wall instead, the metal bending like butter before the man's fist. More so, the man pushed through the wall to free it, turning to him with frightening speed with malice in his eyes. Kyle stared in silence, even as his mind worked furiously to account this new detail. Oh great, super strength. Probably best to stick to long range then.
The thought had barely left his mind before a new one replaced it; his partner. Unleashing a sudden blast at the brute, Kyle turned his attention to his ally...to find him gone. Where did he go? This was starting to look like trouble...very big trouble.
Kyle was being overwhelmed. The soldiers had been easy enough to handle once Kyle was in close; those muskets weren't much use in close quarters when his own weapon was better suited to the task. But for all his skills and the advantage he had, the soldiers were persisting in the need to continue existing. Normally, he might have been able to get around this simple fact. There were only five of them, after all, and it only took one good hit to drop them. Finish them quick, then get back to Evelyn to assist her against the incoming he'd seen.
Too bad not all of the incoming went her way. Nor did the incoming stop incoming.
Funny how this room was the quietest one a moment ago.
Now there were even more soldiers, from varying ages, clashing with one another...but more importantly, clashing with him. The men on the ground were a force he could handle; the riders were a much more difficult problem. Grabbing one of the charging soldiers, Kyle brought him over with a knee to the gut, followed by a harsh elbow to the back of the neck. Art or not, he wasn't getting up for a while, if ever again. But even with this one down, there were more and the chaos was getting worse.
Then he saw Evelyn, only a brief flash through the madness. But that was enough. Enough to see the metal shield that smashed her across the head and sent her down to the ground. Enough to see the mutant Evelyn had been talking about, enjoying this as if he was simply watching a movie, as if peoples lives weren't at stake. And most importantly of all, he saw the rider moving in to finish what his shield had started. Hell with it. Evelyn's more important. Time to get serious.
There was a flash as Kyle's hand erupted into alive; not bolts, not anymore. Instead, solid beams of his energy flashed out, catching the soldiers around him, sending them back whether it caught them cleanly or they blocked with their muskets. Kyle was already moving by the time the first of them hit the ground. He ignored everything around him, all the madness and chaos and focused on a single point; the rider bearing down on Evelyn. And then he threw a solid blast of his energy straight into the rider's chest; the clatter of his armor on the floor temporarily covered everything else. Sliding to a stop near Evelyn, Kyle quickly took stock of his situation; content that he had a few moments of peace, he checked her over fast.
"Evelyn...Evelyn, can you hear me? Are you alright?" Kyle's eyes left Evelyn only to stare at the mutant, to keep him in sight at all times. That smug look on his face; Kyle couldn't wait to remove it. Just as soon as he knew Evelyn would be alright. And could be left alone. What a fine day this was turning out to be.
If Gemini could feel such a thing, in fact, if he could feel anything he might have felt disappointment over their current situation. Although they had spent hours meticulously planning for this day, for this encounter with a man who could be considered a god with his abilities, fine-tuning their plan and making sure they would have everything under control, this was just....too easy. Even though the faster this went, the less complications the better...it should not have been this simple. Not against a mutant of this stren...
Gemini's sudden pause to his thoughts coupled with the gasp of surprise Aquarius gave as madness overtook the subway. She thought herself that she had him then, his body obviously racked with pain as her water drilled into his spine, slowly edging its way to cut off his ability to breathe. She'd hoped he'd listened to her words, to let her end this quickly and as painlessly as possible. So imagine her surprise when a nearby garbage can was suddenly flung away via a miniature cyclone, a bench shattering a few moments later. There were moments of light breezes too, as if the wind could not decide what it wanted to do.
They both understood in an instant what was happening; Zephyr was forcing his power against Gemini's control, with mixed results. Without proper control, as Gemini's power inflicted on him, Zephyr was making up for it by unleashing everything he had. Sure, it meant that some of his actions were as weak as a kitten...but it also meant that there were actions that showed why Zephyr was considered a threat. Such as the one that suddenly sent Aquarius flying towards her partner.
Her control momentarily disturbed, the water assaulting Zephyr was released. Gemini, almost caught unaware by the action, braced himself to catch his comrade, collapsing to the floor in a tumble. The next few seconds, precious seconds, were spent untangling themselves from one another before the two managed to get to their feet and bring themselves to bear down on Zeph once again. Gemini was already working his power onto Zeph, to keep him from having utter control of that dangerous power of his. Aquarius, on the other hand, realized that the game would have to be stepped up.
"Handsome and dangerous...now this is what we expected from him." Glancing her eyes to the walls, Aquarius pulled the water she'd used before to her before launching it at Zeph again, scattering it into little spikes to strike him from all directions...even as she started pulling the water from the water mains around them. Some of them were harder then the others, deeper into the walls...but one such main was close enough that a small trickle started coming from the walls.
Then came the crack. And from it came the flood as water sprayed like a living viper towards the wind manipulator. Game officially stepped up.
Aquarius did not look happy at all that her water attack had succeeded. Truthfully, having to harm another in such a manner was distasteful; violence should not be the solution to the problem. But the General had made his orders clear and although it pained her to do so, she would never abandon her duty over her personal preference. Soldiers who allowed their emotions to rule them were not good soldiers and if she didn't, the people she cared about could suffer as a result of her failure. So no matter how handsome she thought Zephyr was, he had to do. For everyone's sake.
Gemini, on the other hand, was of a completely neutral mind. Both he and his twin were that way; whether by design or by a wicked twist of fate, who could say. To him, there was only the mission. There was no right, no wrong, no questions to be asked save the ones that would allow him to achieve his objective. He would do as his commander asked; nothing more, nothing less.
It became clear seconds into the engagement that things were not working out well for either side. For Aquarius, the sudden burst of wind that sent her slamming towards the ceiling was not expected; she had to retract her water from Zephyr to cushion herself from the worst of the blow. So while he was rocked enough to see stars, she was considerably less shaken, if not rattled. Still, it was enough to stun her momentarily. For Gemini, seeing his ally in trouble brought him to bring his hidden guns to bear...only to find both of them go click when he pulled the trigger.
That was troubling. Gemini, however, appeared unfazed as he re-holstered the weapons and drew a long knife instead from his boot, along with a short sword from behind his back. Long range was out of commission; short would have to do. On the other end, Aquarius barely managed to shake off her haze in time to cushion her landing as well; the water splashing up to almost catch her in its grasp as it lowered her to the ground. She was completely dry, as it were, her power sucking the water from her dress for her to use again. On the ground before her, Zeph hadn't been so lucky. He had hit hard and even she knew he had been hurt by it. Giving him a small smile, she knelled down before him.
"Naughty boy; is that how you were raised to treat a lady? Just lay back and let his happen." At her words, her water came slamming down towards his back, an anvil of force that would not help whatever damage had been done by the far. "I'll make it as painless as possible, so long as you don't resist."
Update: The final thread of the first act, the open thread, has just gone up. All those who volunteered to be controlled by Libra, you're up. Raise some chaos boys and girls!
As darkness descended upon New York, a lone man ascended the rooftop of an old, condemned building. The view from the building wasn't great, but it did allow him a good look upon the greater downtown from afar, those lights just starting to lighten the night of the city that never sleeps. The man, silently, watched as the city's night life began to come alive, the thousands who chose to work or play in the grip of shadows rather than the light. And the man knew, within those thousands, would be terrible peoples, murderers, gangsters, rapists...and even they were nothing compared to the true monsters that lurked within the city. Like a plague, they infested the city little by little, endangering the people and spreading their disease like rats.
Well, tonight there would be a new kind of monster to stalk the streets. And these monsters would begin the slow process of eradicating this disease...with itself.
A slow smile creep along his face as he turned to his companions, who were just joining him now. These two, his most trusted advisers and companions, who had been with him in this project since the first step. Now, after years of planning, preparation, carefully outlining each step and finding all the pieces to complete the chess board, finally, it would all begin to come to fruition. Tonight was the first step to cleansing the plague that had invested the world...and the General, for he needed no real name anymore, could barely contain his glee. He would, of course, for he was The General and he had soldiers that followed his example and lead. But for these two, he showed them just a little bit of his joy before hardening like a rock.
"Report."
The first of the two, a man barely into his thirties, tilted his head to the side as he listened to a voice in his ear, before speaking. "Everyone is in position and awaiting your orders, General. Teams one through four report that they are ready to commence "Operation: Revelations" at any time." Nodding to the man, The General turned to his partner, a woman in her younger twenties.
"And our "special" forces?"
"They are in place, with all their targets acquired. They merely await the command that will unleash them."
Smiling, The General clapped his hands together, rubbing them palm to palm as he looked out over the night once more, letting that scene of peace sink in for one more moment, before giving his order. The first order of many to come. "All forces, we are a go. Commence operations. Show the world what he can do. Show them all."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Across the city, the different squads would be moving into action, the targets assigned to them all within reach for them to strike within moments. Several groups, like his brothers in the Zodiacs, would be focusing on individuals deemed to be worthy of being an example or a genuine threat. Others would be targeting places where mutants massed, aiming to inflict as much damage as possible in a sudden strike before retreating back into the shadows. The General had been clear regarding that matter, as well as another; aid your fellow man, but if the risk to save him is too great, end him. Or end yourself, as it were. No man was to be left for them to interrogate; too many mutants and mutant lovers that could spoil their plan otherwise.
Across the city, four duos would be striking out at appointed targets; Isabel Duskmorr, Simon Smith, Sam Johnson and Kyle Albatros. Strong mutants that needed to be taken down, to be used as example, to be removed from the equation. His fellow Zodiacs would be handing them; divided into teams to not only increase their effectiveness, but to ensure success. But there are twelve signs in the Zodiac and only eight accounted for. So what were the other four doing?
The answer was simple. Reek havoc and destroy as many mutants as possible.
Thus was the task entrusted to Virgo and his fellows; Pisces, Scorpio, Libra and the other half of the Gemini twins. Virgo would be their commander for this mission, while the others were to work in pairs to cause as much chaos as possible and eliminate as many threats as one could. Which is why Libra was paired with the female Gemini, overlooking a crowded street near Wall Street, licking his lips as he maneuvered his well captured pieces into place. They were spread out a bit, across the various businesses and malls and the like, but his plan needed not distance to matter. It had taken a gamble and some hunting to acquire the pieces he did, but their information network and the soldiers under their command had aided in the search. Now it was time for him to let his pawns loose and to continue adding more as he saw fit.
Oh, the havoc he would unleash tonight! It got his blood boiling just to think about it. "Now my pretty little pawns, its time to go to work. See the people, see all the people and the mutants that hide among them? They are jealous of you, they want you to die, they have something you want...it matters not your reason. Feel the hate surge within you...and go forth to enact your vengeance upon them! Go, maim, kill...DESTROY!!!
Below him, at street level, his pawns would be moving. He'd already implanted his lovely little seeds, his parasitic darlings, into both human and mutant alike(some where random, others he had picked out personally), a full score of now enraged peons to do his work for him. All of them would think this rage would be their own, that what they were about to do now was entirely of their choice...in a way, it was true. But the puppetmaster was pulling the strings and directing their ire; it was going to be a bloody night indeed.
Well Roach, I'll say this; I'll play them if people really want me too, but as I'm not super fast like some people, there will likely be delays if I have too many. Also, I'd rather not have like dozen's of threads that I'm trying to do at once. That'll burn me out fast.
But, it is my plot so I will, if requested, bite the bullet and play them.
@sy: I'll likely play the Zodiacs for the open thread I'm making and make them free after that. And yes, I know Sylar's in to be controlled. I'm tossing that up right at this moment.
Update: Ive added the threads that have been put up to date on the first post.
Now, as for the Zodiac threads to take place after the First Act, I require two things of people. 1. To request the use of a certain Zodiac(or Zodiacs) here for everyone to know who's using who. And 2. To make it clear whether or not they are using them for a solo, need me to play the Zodiac or have someone who will take over the role for that Zodiac(Zodiacs). As a note, if anyone wishes to play one but wants to talk a bit more about how they would act, just let me know via PM or messenger. I gave a basic personality idea for each of them and people are welcome to try and expand them off of that if they wish. That was the idea.
That's all. Open thread HOPEFULLY coming today at some point. Ima try my best!
Kyle knew something was wrong. He just didn't know what yet.
It wasn't that he'd seen anything to alert him to trouble, at least as far as obvious signs of trouble were. But from the moment he'd stepped outside Sanctuary this morning, something had felt off. It was one of those things that people talked about, a sixth sense or something like that; a person didn't know why or how; all they knew was that something in their immediate area, whether they saw, heard or smelt it, was out of place. Kyle had such a sense; it never alerted him to what was to come, but it put him slightly more on guard, aware that there might be trouble later that he would have to deal with.
He never would have expected the trouble that came today though.
Keeping himself aware of his surroundings at all times, Kyle went about his normal routine. Drive around the city, look for trouble, do a little side-work to get paid here and there. It was amazing the number of jobs you could do in New York for quick cash; all you had to do was be there and offer to help. Usually construction jobs or the like, enough to help him earn a modest living. It was when dark was descending when he switched gears, from money-earner by day to the being that stalked the nights.
Trouble was always around in a city like New York, but tonight it was quiet. More quiet then usual, even though it was only early evening. Quiet enough that Kyle was lounging near Times Square, watching the city go from busy as hell during the day to busy as hell while people partied all night. In the city that never sleeps, places like this seemed to stay consistent whether night or day, the only difference being what the reason for its activity.
It was so quiet(well, as quiet as Times Square gets) that Kyle didn't notice the two people who'd been approaching him from either side until they were almost right on top of him. Even then, he ignored them for the most part, until it was clear that they were focused keenly on him. Glancing to either side, Kyle took a quick note of them; one looked like he worked out too much, with muscles bulging from beneath the shirt and jacket he wore. The other was smaller in build, but was wearing pants so baggy that he must have had legs the size of small houses for them to fit in anyway.
When it was clear neither of them were going away, Kyle sighed before putting down the bottle of water he'd been drinking from and turning to watch both men as best he could. "So...how might I help you gentlemen tonight?"
Across the way, Gemini tensed slightly as Zephyr reached into his pocket, his body and mind ready to act at a moment's notice if the elemental tried anything funny. When all that was drawn from his pocket was a small bottle of pills, Gemini relaxed slightly...until he remembered that in the report that Zephyr needed those pills for a very good reason. It had been hard going to get intel on that regard, much like most intel on this man was, but they had learned enough.
If he was taking the pills, he was likely reading himself for trouble.
From his position, Gemini was able to make a slight twitch of head that only his companion could see while Zephyr was paying attention to her, a non-verbal signal they had worked out beforehand. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated and all it signaled was this; the time for messing around was over. It was time to begin. Calmly, Gemini released his power onto the man, focusing his entire will and focus onto him...and towards that troublesome control he had over the wind. He would find, no doubt very soon, that he wasn't as invincible as he thought himself to be.
Aquarius, catching the signal from her companion out of the corner of her eye, sighed visibly. It was a terrible shame what she had to do next, especially to such a fine specimen as this Zephyr was...but orders were orders. She had hoped she'd get to spend a little bit more time teasing and flirting with the man...but the jig was up, it seemed. Gemini would not have signaled her otherwise; she had been the one who was suppose to signal him when she was ready, after all.
Sighing again, she gave him a warm smile, her body language completely devoid of any real sign of trouble. She put a hand to her chest as if his words wounded her, while her other hand rested upon the bag she held on her side. "You wound me sir...I am no harlot from the street. But, since you asked, I do have one price, one simple thing I need from you in return." Her expression was almost sad then, for although she would follow her orders without question in the end, it didn't mean she couldn't dislike them.
"I need you to die for me." Her hand snapped her pouch open then, quick and easy...and from within the bag came a surge of water, the inside of her bag full of it. It moved like a thing alive, spitting forth with a speed and intent as it struck for Zeph's face, trying to spear it and engulf that lovely face within.
