The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mina's eyebrow headed upward herself as he reeled off possible reason why he did what he did. Mr. Cynical Sadsack or what? Well, smoke or not she wasn't about to let him get away that easy. Mina had plans for him and that didn't include letting him get away. She grabbed the bottle and tossed some bills down to pay for her own drinks before following him out the door. She could almost hear the sighs and murmurs of 'lucky s.o.b.' as she headed for the door. If she hadn't been in character she would have laughed about it.
"Mr. Redemption Seeker, I don't like drinking alone." she said upon catching up to him
He'd gather his own implications from that and she'd let him. If she laid it on too thick too quick a cynical man like him would suspect something in a heartbeat. This curious good girl persona was going to annoy her no end. However if it was what what was needed then she'd use it. She had gone to greater lengths in the past for other things. A little bit of acting wouldn't hurt her too much. She took a pull from the bottle he'd given her.
"So got a name cop? Or do I have to search you for your wallet and find out from your driver's license?"
Mina let him get the vitriol out of his system before she grabbed the bottle by the neck, took a look at it, and then took a good long pull from it. After a time she sat it down on the bar with a thump that matched the one his badge had made.
"Good stuff." she commented before pushing the bottle back to him and looking at him.
"I never said I was looking for a hero. Heroes get killed too quick. I just like a man who's got the...nerve to do what needs to be done."
She smiled at him before taking a drink from her own glass.
"Besides, why do the job if you don't like being the hero? You may say you aren't doing it to be the hero but a lot of the time that's what you guys end up as. The so-called everyday hero."
Not that she actually believed any of it. Cops were idiots that mostly existed to get cut down. For every one criminal they put away there were three or four others waiting to take their place. This cop in particular currently existed to be cut down by her. Maybe when the time came she'd drown him in his precious whiskey.
She did in fact over hear Ryan Doyle's snort in response to her words and shoot him an innocent look. It was entirely unbelievable compared to what she could pull when she needed to. This was meant to be falsely innocent.
"Why would that be? There's a certain amount of bravery required to be a cop and face down the scum of society day in and day out. I find that attractive."
Mina could feel the stares on her and Ryan Doyle as she spoke. This was now a bar full of predators and they were listening and waiting for their chances to strike. She smiled brightly at Ryan Doyle, picked up her drink, and found a stool next to him.
"So what about you? Why are you here if you're so down on cops hmmm?"
She played the part of the curious and attractive woman. The rest of the men in the bar would be put out that he'd gotten her attention with such a tactic, whether he meant it or not. She fixed Ryan Doyle with a inquiring look and waited to see if he'd respond to her. She'd come here again and again if she had to. The man had screwed up her hit and tried to arrest her. She wanted some payback for that and a simple bullet just didn't feel quite sufficient. Smart, clean, and effective yes. Sufficient for what she wanted? No.
A smirk curved her lips as she sat at the bar, waiting for one of the inebriated men to work up the nerve or the alcohol poisoning to try and talk to her. She'd spotted Mr. Ryan Doyle just down the bar. She'd also seen his eyes on her when she walked in. Her body at least had his attention. That was good. Tonight she had decided that her name was Sarah Princeton. She was an accountant who worked for a fairly well off couple that paid her to keep track of their finances. She also had a thing for cops. Or at least, that's what she'd say when someone asked what an accountant was doing dressed like that in a cop bar.
After a few minutes she was finally approached by a spindly little man in horn rim glasses who sounded like he was talking to her more because of drink than because of any courage he actually possessed.
"Sho hot schtuff" he hiccuped, "Howsa bout you n me?"
Mina closed her eyes as she was forced to endure the near overpowering smell of beer on the man's breath. She knocked back the rest of her drink, a glass of some expensive liquor or another, before eying the man.
"How about you go eat a breath mint and call me when you're sober."
Mina smiled brightly at him while the men nearby either winced or chuckled. The man in question flushed with anger, lurched forward, and then promptly fell to the floor when the cheap beer he'd been drinking finally over powered him. Mina simply raised an eyebrow at the prostrate man and turned to the barkeep, who was looking at her curiously.
"What's a gal like you doing here?" he asked as he refilled her drink after receiving a nod from her that it was ok to do so. Mina smiled coyly at him and responded with a wink.
"I happen to like cops...and I hear tell this is a good place to meet them."
(For the arrest of Frogger that led to this thread see here.)
It was a few days after the failed hit on Frogger and Mina was by now quite annoyed. The slime had hit her not a few hundred feet out of the warehouse. She'd been lucky that she'd gotten to a place the cops hadn't checked until she came down. Her employer had gotten impatient and demanded a status report. That had gone about as well as could be expected. Mina had to make this guy dead or her reputation was going to be shot. All in all she was very ready to make a certain cop pay. That cop, she'd learned from her information dealers, was one Ryan Doyle.
Ryan Doyle frequented a bar called the Black Horse Pub. Ryan Doyle was in for the surprise of his pathetic little life tonight. She was decked out in a red leather outfit that would have looked excellent with a motorcycle if she had one. However Mina thought she could carry it off from the driver's seat of her jaguar. She'd seen to it that she was, in her own opinion, hot. After all, her plans included catching that detective's eye.
With that in mind Mina pulled up to the curb at the bar in question at 9 pm. The jaguar was placed such that it would get attention but wasn't just begging to be stolen. After exiting and locking the vehicle Mina strode into the bar with a confident smile on her face. She looked around, meeting any eyes that sought her, before heading to the bar. She wasn't going to seek the man out immediately. That would be too suspicious. No, Mina would bide her time at the bar, get a drink or two, and make her move a little later. Provided, of course, that he didn't make a move first.
While her smile stayed in place beneath the mask as though she'd planned for the circumstances she found herself in Mina was nearly swearing in her mind. Of all the days the cops had to be good at their job today?! It was ok. She could get around this. However it was irksome to the point of annoyance that the cops were actually performing their duties efficiently today. Her target was going to get arrested. There was no way around that now. Therefore Mina's objective shifted from taking out the target to extracting herself. She couldn't very well orchestrate Frogger's death in jail if she was there as well.
Well she could but it wasn't an optimal situation for a mercenary-slash-hitwoman like herself. Mina kept her cool and rolled her eyes at the tough guy cop.
"You know I have a name. It's Mute. I like that much better than the filth you're spewing at me."
Mina's own good fortune kicked in at that moment to counter that of the cop. He had after all been covered in a hallucinogenic toxin. It started to affect him moments after he demanded she put her hands up again. Mina of course had made no move to comply but now, she didn't have to. The rifle went over her shoulder into a carrying bag and she pulled a pistol, it wouldn't do to be completely weaponless, before walking over to the tripping cop.
"Enjoy your trip, Mr. Cop."
Mina then began clambering back up into the stacks of boxes and crates. She needed to get out of the warehouse and out of her mission threads before the smaller dose she'd gotten affected her as well.
Her gun had connected solidly and she left the cop behind. Her sound canceling was still active so though she was making no noise as she moved she also heard none of the swearing, gunshots, or calls to freeze. It was one of the downsides of her power. Mina supposed she could confine the sound canceling to her body and leave her head outside the sphere of influence but that was a thought for another time. For now she needed to keep moving and keep Frogger in her sight. If she lost him she'd have to drop the canceling in order to hear which direction he was in and she didn't want to have to do that.
When the mark departed the catwalk for the floor again so did she, albeit via the crates. Unlike the two men she was playing with Mina couldn't perform jumps like that without breaking something. This however was a warehouse still used partially for it's original purposes. So Mina had plenty of crates and boxes to use as a makeshift stairs. Upon catching up to Frogger she dropped the silencing. The cop had apparently winged Frogger with a bullet but had seen her the moment she came around the corner. This was why she had dropped the silencing. It could be revealing if she were to not respond to something he said to her. Of course the only thing he did say was to demand that she put her hands up.
Mina couldn't help it, she sighed.
He actually thought that demanding she put her hands up would work? On someone who, in his view, was a vigilante at the least and more likely a hitwoman? Instead she calmly pointed the rifle in question at the still fleeing Frogger and responded in a bored tone, which she made sure to keep pitched lower than her normal voice.
"You do realize of course while you are busy wasting your time on me he is getting away?"
Black knit masks didn't lend themselves well to expression but her incredulity should have been readily apparent just by her eyes.
Mina followed Deven out of the bar and around the side of the building. The car was an older one and accoirding to him expensive. Cars were something that Mina knew little of beyond the basics so she would have to take him at his word in this matter. She slid into the car as he held the door open for her.
"It looks nice enough."
With business taken care off this was all just for her amusement like any other man she deigned to spend her time on. It was a game to her, to see how long a man could resist her. Deven had already proven himself susceptible. All that was left was to make him crack.
Mina kept her eyes on the chase going on below her. Frogger it seemed was an apt if obvious name for the frog mutant. Aside from producing the psychedelic slime, which now coated the cop, he could also jump far beyond normal ability. This of course was something she'd previously known from her information dealers. She didn't go into something blind. Seeing it for herself gave her a much better judgement of how to counter it though. The chase was headed for the catwalks now it seemed so that's where Mina headed. She clambered up onto the highest crate in her vicinity and from there it was an easy jump onto the catwalks overhead.
However she wasn't the only one that had the idea to jump up there. Frogger of course had gone first but the cop seemed to have the idea at the same time as she did. The feat of jumping from the ground to the catwalks earned him an immediate mutant designation from Mina, as well as a much higher danger rating. She'd known that if they sent anyone to deal with Frogger it would be MRC. However MRC weren't all mutants. This one was. This one also didn't have great aim. He landed right on top of her.
Mina briefly glared at the man on top of her before shoving him off of her roughly and taking a swing at him with her gun. She stayed no longer than that. Mina turned and gave chase after Frogger. No way was she going to let some fool cop stop her from completing a job.
The drug dealers in her neighborhood didn't like competition. This Frogger mutant was stirring things up with a new mutant-created drug. Slime it was called and it was stealing their business. They quickly decided that they'd had enough. Mute was called in. This was a job she was happy to do. Mina didn't need this scum bringing more cop attention to the warehouse district. He had set up shop not too far from her home. If the cops made a concentrated search of the area they'd find her place and that just wasn't something she wanted. Sure she could abandon it if necessary and hole up elsewhere. However she'd spent good money on that warehouse and wasn't about to let the cops have it.
So she'd found herself geared up and infiltrating the warehouse in the afternoon. Her sources had told her he was doing a deal this afternoon so she knew he'd be here. Mina had sequestered herself up high amongst the boxes with a rifle and a handgun. With the distances and angles the warehouse provided she didn't much see the point in bringing a longer ranged sniper rifle. What she had would do just as well given her position. Once the mutant in question came into view it was show time. Mina fired up her mutation and centered it on the gun. They wouldn't know what had happened until it was too late.
Unfortunately for her she hadn't expected the buyer to be a cop. That complicated matters since she'd been planning on killing the fool once the buy was completed. Now she was forced into action early. She squeezed off a shot only to miss as the frog mutant turned to run and the cop to follow. Now it was going to be a chase. Mina cursed under her breath that her cover had been compromised for a shot that hit nothing. It hadn't even grazed either of them. Mina shifted the silencing from the rifle to herself and began negotiating the boxes and crates to a better position as the frog and the cop ran.
Oh I can do whatever. Mina would be fine with something along the lines of what I'm setting up with Ashton or with a rumble or even a mixture of the two.
Any of those places would be an excellent spot to pick up Mina, since she likes to tour all of them on occasion.
They'd probably have information on a mercenary/assassin called Mute and have a number of cases attributed to said person. They'd probably know that Mute was a woman. However they likely wouldn't have any pictures or anything concrete to tie Mute's work to any one person. It would pretty much be anecdotal evidence collected from various witnesses, of which there would be few since Mina would either try not to be seen or kill the witness as well.
