The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kate turned over in her bed leaving a sweat stained sheet behind where she had once laid. She may have been fire proof and heat resistant but the heat from fire was an entirely different thing. She did not however wake as the white blaze spread across her room with such speed and determination it would have set terror in the heart of any man. Kate had unknowingly ignited a small amount of fire on the chair next to her bed. It was plush and made of beautiful natural silks and soft woods there was no doubt why it went up like kindling starting the whole thing in motion. Though still no matter how much smoke filled the room and how much heat the fire put out Kate remained in a ignorant slumber.
In her dreams the voice continued to prod her, I wonder what you would do if all of this was real. You react with such dedication in a dream what would happen if you were forced to face the reality of this thing you fear so much? What would you do if you really did light them on fire? “NO!! Please no. I know you have all the power but please not my home. Not my family.” When will you understand I have none of the power. We are the same. The voice did not seem to take any pleasure in the pain it was causing in the girls subconscious. It more seemed to be pleading with her in hopes that she would understand. Kate wasn’t sure why it had changed its tune so suddenly. Why had it chosen now to stop torturing her? "We are not the same." Kate's voice was small as she fell to her knees in the darkness once again only the fire surrounding her to keep her company, "We can't be the same."
Kate lay deep in sleep. Deep enough that one could even call it the sleep of the dead if she wasn’t still breathing. She didn’t hear the alarm and she didn’t hear the voices that followed in a panic outside her door. She was dead to the world. Trapped in her own tortured mind.
Kate smiled trying to imagine Ami with her brother. She imagined the two of them were rather close by the way she spoke of him. Hmmm. Aurum? Why did that name sound familiar? Kate wasn’t sure where she had heard it but maybe she had heard it around the mansion or something. She chose to just push it to the back of her mind as she pulled the cozy down from the top self of the cabinet and placed it over the pot so it could stay nice and hot while it steeped. Tea was always better got and Kate preferred that hers be boiling.
Kate turned just in time to see Ami beginning to place the biscuits down on a random plate, “Wait one moment. I have just the thing for that.” Kate pulled a matching plate from her tea set and scurried over to the table, “Here let me do that. You are a guest in my home after all.” She placed the biscuits in a fancy little patter on the pink flowered center of the plate. Once she was satisfied she had made them look at pretty as they were going to get she moved the plate to the tray while putting away the two unused ones.
“Alright shall we.” Kate turned with the tray in hand ready to head upstairs and change into something warm.
Kate couldn’t help chuckle at Ami’s knowledge of tea, or lack there of rather, “Black it is then.” She reached into the cabinet and pulled out a tin of Twinings Darjeeling, “I find it terribly interesting how little Americans know about tea. I mean putting lemon in tea isn’t a terrible thing it is actually quite lovely, but it isn’t really tea if it comes already lemon flavored. Not real tea anyway. That would be something that was processed and flavored.” Kate opened up the tin and pulled out a small clump of leaves and put them into the bottom of the pot just as the kettle began to hiss, “Sorry if I offed but tea is a bit of a British staple I suppose not to mention it was a favorite of my mothers. I grew up drinking tea. She was actually the one that gave me this set when I moved to America.” She sighed at the fond memories of afternoon tea with her mother and smiled having let go of the sadness associate with the woman months before.
Kate couldn’t help but laugh at the use of the English term, “That would be lovly.” This time however she chose to leave her opinion on American choices alone instead of potentially offending the girl again. And thankfully for her, as if on cue the kettle started whistling. Kate lifted it without even a second thought at the heat it was permeating and turned off the burner. The last thing she wanted to do was risk starting a fire. She had enough of a potential for that without the use of a stove. She moved gracefully back to the waiting pot and poured the hot water in letting the steam warm her face and save her from the cold for a moment.
“Alright I’ll start the tea.” Kate headed in without another word and made a bee line for where she kept her tea. She had placed it in a middle cabinet nestled safely in the back where it was less likely to be used over and over again. She had brought a rather nice tea set with her from England and preferred that it be reserved for just her if she could. She rushed around trying to make the tea as quickly as possible so she may get out of the wet clothes and warm up. It hadn’t been so bad outside in the 70 to 80 something degree weather but now that she was in the air conditioned mansion she was starting to shiver from the cold.
Kate could hear Ami enter a few moments after her as she was pulling out the tea pot and cupsand placing them on the silver tray, “What kind of tea would you like? I have an assortment to choose from.” She looked up into the cabinet to read off the different ones she saw, “I have black, white, herbal (OCC: don’t forget to pronounce the H), floral, green or a fruit flavor.” Kate turned back and crossed her arms pulling her shoulders up in an attempt to warm herself further while she waited for the pot to whistle.
Interesting… Her Gawain. Kate was going to have to file that one away for later when she could make fun of him for it. Though she did have to stifle a little bit of a laugh at the thought that her best friend belong to anyone, let alone this young lady who seemed just as nice as can be. She seemed like a great choice for him even if it didn’t last forever.
“Oh well then I insist you use something of mine while we dry your clothes. I can’t have Gawain’s girlfriend running around the mansion all wet. We can have tea and watch a movie or something. I would love to get to know the girlfriend he has yet to introduce me to. I mean I have been back in New York since November.” Kate walked towards the glass doors of the kitchen side by side with Ami trying to fit both of them under the one person umbrella and brace herself for the air conditioning that she knew was on inside.
Kate stood listening to Ami speak, “I met Gawain my first day in America actually when I arrived at the school. We have been great friends ever since.” She slid her arms into her coat despite the fact that she was more then a little wet. “He is actually my best friend here in the states.” Kate reached out her hand and helped Ami to her feet, “So are you a resident? Do you want to head to your room and change quickly? If not you are welcome to use something of mine.”
Without even realizing what Ami has said and the fact that neither of them knew each other Kate spoke with a kind of familiarity with a loud laugh, “He would wouldn't he. That would be after he dragged me inside yelling at me about rain and almost dying. That boy is far more protective then he needs to be. Though he does have that whole knight in shinning armor thing going for him.” Kate looked down at her own clothes as the rain started to really come down, “Would you like to go inside and dry off a bit? Maybe have some hot tea.”
I would love Kate to play if you will let her but that is up to you guys over there in X world. Well that is if you will let her after the thread I just posted.
Over the years Kate had learned to be wary of odd dreams. Every time she had one it seemed something odd was happening which was why she had been having them in worsening severity since this whole mutation freak out had started. She wasn’t exactly sure what it meant for the future but she knew it wasn’t good. She had dreamed of everything from a barren desert to a tropical island to a fire engulfed earth. In each dream she was alone with just that oh so familiar voice to scare her into a corner and remind her of what she really was. A fiery monster. Sure everyone Kate knew would beg to differ about her opinion of herself and her mutation but that would never change what Kate thought of herself. And the longer she went and the worse her mutation got the more she feared that this growth she was supposedly going through would only prove and solidify her terrible nature. That when this was all said and done she would be left alone standing in a crater she once called her friends and family and home and she wouldn’t even care that she had done it. That she had truly destroyed everyone around her with the destructive force that lived inside of her. She would have finally given in to the evil she was meant to be. And if this dream was any indication she was on her way to doing just that.
Kate stood alone in a sea of flames. She looked around desperate to see nothing in the white heat. Desperate to not see the wreckage of Kirby hall or the mansion. Desperate to not see the charred remains of what was once her loved ones. There had been so many dreams in which she had seen their petrified faces looking up at her as if they were asking why. But to her delight there was nothing. Just darkness and fire. What are you looking for? There it was to haunt her again. That voice. The elemental inside of her taunting her again. Are you looking for them again? You should know better then that by now. Yes I have shown you what you could be really capable of but it wasn’t to scare you silly girl. It was to show you the truth. There is so much more to be seen in this destruction then fear. As the voice spoke Kate watched the vision around her change and she was once again in the apartment she missed all the way on the other side of the world. It was hot and unlike the times before she could feel the fire on her face. Beads of seat forming on her forehead as she saw the burnt and beaten form of Albert in the distance. As the fear set in his face came into view and it was one of terror and fear and what she believed to be hatred. “Albert. I’m sorry.” Kate wanted to cry but every tear dried as it left her eye and touched the heat of her skin. Is that what you think? That he would hate you if he knew the truth about you? That he would be afraid of you? You really are far more naive then I thought you were. “Please stop doing this. I know I can’t get rid of you but please stop.” I can’t stop till you understand. All Kate needed was those words and she fell apart. She collapsed in her dream as the room around her started to collapse in the real world.
[[OCC Kate’s room is currently on fire and that fire is freaking hot. I would say blazing white since she wasn’t conscious to make it less.]]
So I am going to bump this while also putting an open thread out there. Anyone who wants to join is more then welcome I just want to get things started on this and well I may be more then a little eager to thread.
“You are welcome to use my umbrella if you would like." Kate reached beside her and picked up an umbrella handing it to the girl. "Though what is the point of sitting in the rain if it isn’t to feel it. It is so rare that it is warm after all.” Kate sighed happily and picked up hwer coat, putting it on. The longer she sat there the cooler the rain seemed to get and the colder she got as a result. She started to wonder if she should not go inside but the stubborn part of her refused to let her go inside.
Kate smiled at the young woman next to her. It was nice that her mother cared so much as to make their world colorful and beautiful. “My mothers garden is the one thing that I took extra care was preserved after her death. It is the one thing she cared for as much as she cared for me so it was only appropriate. Or at least I think so.” She sat silently closing her eyes and just feeling the rain on her face.
“Kealey?...” Kate searched her brain for someone living in the mansion by that name and after a few moments remembered a staff member she had only really seen in passing. She was a friends of Andrew’s she thought, “The librarian right?” She distinctly remembered the woman for her clothes now that she thought about it. She was always at the prime of fashion, something Kate greatly appreciated in the mansions sea of mediocrity. Kate was so lost in her thought that she almost didn’t hear the girl speaking before her, “Oh yes you should see it but I recommend not seeing it in the rain. The sunlight reflects off all the colors and I have to say it is just beautiful. It actually reminds me of my mother’s garden back home. She loved her flowers.” Kate got this dreamy look on her face as she remembered being a child gardening with her mother in the cool English springs. Her mother had taken such pride in the garden that she had made sure to have the staff preserve it just the way she did as a monument to her mother that she could go back and see whenever she wanted. She would have to bring Albert there when she was better and felt it was safe to be around him again. He would love it.
“Very nice to meet you Ami.” Kate’s accent seemed to thicken through the name, “I’m Kate and I am out in the rain because it is warm. I don’t generally get to enjoy things like rain.” She shivered as she thought about the terror that had been a year and a half ago when everyone thought she had tried to commit suicide after the death of her mother. She had actually never even thought about the consequences of going out that day and she had surly never thought that she would be sitting out in the rain now. Honestly if this had been the girl that she used to be Kate would have been cowering inside afraid of the consequences of going out. “So why are you outside?”
Kate sat down on a rock at the far end of the yard letting her hair fall around her back as she leaned back on the large surface and stretched out her green clad legs in front of her crossing them at the ankle. Her style had changed so much in just a year. She was wearing a long flowing pair of pants, a mustard colored jacket, and a long sleeve sweater, even though the rain was warm it was still only in the low 70s. The only thing that hadn’t really changed about her style was her shoes, they were the same vintage style she always wore. In actuality that was the one thing that hasn’t changed about her. Her style was now and would forever be vintage designer chic. It was classic and it was her. The girl really didn’t know how to dress like a slob. Though in her defense she never really had to do much to look great. So now here she sat her stylishly colorful outfit sitting on a rock in the rain when she was startled out of her thoughts of times past by a small voice next to her.
She looked over to find a young girl sitting in the grass next to her. She had dark brown hair and was about Kate’s size it seemed. She couldn’t be much older then Kate herself to tell the truth. She studied the girls face not recognizing it at all. She had only been back at the mansion for a few months but you quickly got used to seeing the same faces over and over around here. “Um… Yes I suppose it is.” Kate just sat looking at the girl with confusion spread across her face.
