The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"So far," Ashton repeated, smoothly. He turned his head to look her in the face. "You've been doing alright, keeping up. That doesn't instantly mean some day you'll be my boss."
He hadn't been talking about shooting. He'd been talking about the 'apprentice surpassing the master' comment.
"But that topic," Ashton continued in a chipper tone. "Is for another day. Once we finish these drinks, what do you want to do? Darts, pool, chicken wings, or dancing?" Or more drinks, he recalled with a smile. "I seem to remember you owing me a drink."

'Mhm,' she said. 'Some types of girls,' she said, are 'totally into that' kind of guy. He did not ask, he failed to notice, whether or not she was one of those 'girls'.
He was a bit disappointed. She missed his line of thought. She had to point out hers. Pointy. That's what she was. Ms. Pointy. Not Mrs. He did not see a ring. And who would kick who's ass at pool?
"Maybe I could teach you. Darts. I stink at pool. You'd probably have me beat there." Maybe they could teach each other? Good thought, huh? He left it for her to come to. Dancing, he decided, could come another day.
Snerk. His comment about him being her boss, she'd turned back on him. 'Student becomes the master'. Right. "That isn't an 'eventually'." He smirked. "You have to be good enough to keep up. So far..." He trailed in a leading way.

"You brought it up," Ashton chuckled. He took another drink of his beer. "Maltese Falcon Ashton would be too dated for clubs, anyways. Too busy being caught up in a case. And smoking. Is disgusting." He glanced Archer's way.
"What about you? You never answered. Darts. Dancing. Or pool. Are you the type to spend time in clubs? Somehow, I picture you spending your free nights in the shooting range, or practicing some type of martial art." Maybe sipping a beer while eying her trophies from all those tournament wins. It wasn't a shot in the dark. He was joking. Mostly. Little girl like her, martial arts? Funny stuff. He'd be here all week. Laughing.

Ashton made a face. "Piano." Really? "What am I? 60? I only know how to play that because my mom took me to lessons. Great instrument, but..." He chuckled to himself. "Not my cup of tea. Naw. I'm not the dimly-lit room, brandy snifter kinda guy. More..."
More what?
"Gray and black room, smoking a cigarette, fedora on, legs on table, monotone narration. On the mend, waiting on the landlord to walk in and take it all away because I've been shorting him on the rent, until some dame with legs walks in and offers me cash, because she needs help, and I'm the only guy for the job... kinda guy. Really." He shook his bowed head, knowing smirk on his face. "Don't I strike you as that type, more than the other?"

He didn't strike her as the clubbing type? An eyebrow arched in retaliation for her eyebrow's arching. She changed the subject before he could get in on that with verbal lashings. And suddenly, she was making bets.
"Two of those things, huh. Dang. I hate betting." But what could he do? "I'm not a betting man, so I'll just guess... dancing and darts." He hoped dancing. He'd never been a big fan of pool.
"Now, what did you mean 'not the club type'?" He changed the subject hastily, before he found out whether or not he was right.

Didn't. Think. They could. This woman was rude. And shovey. Or would one call that 'handsy'?
Ashton stood for a second, gawking. Not staring at her walking away, or doing anything pigheaded, nope. Just gawking. It was Archer that did the bold thing. She cut the woman off.
"Hrm."
Archer spoke. Ashton was mildly impressed. He let her handle the 5-letter word for 'pushy woman' by herself.

The child shied up. And answered.
Ashton looked up at the parents. "Played," He said.
The father did not look like he accepted that.
Ashton shoved up off his knees and got back to full height. He looked to Archer. "Does their story match up with his?" He asked.
"Mhm," said Quin.
The detective turned back to the parents. "I'm afraid it sounds like nobody here did anything wrong." He noted. Except the parents, of course. For wasting their time. He left that part out.

Ashton turned to look at the place she'd found (ignoring apologies as he went).
The clothing store was crammed between two larger buildings. It was a two-story building. The windows showed mannequins with trendy outfits on them behind the glass. One of the female mannequins had a dress on that looked to be straight off the runways. One of the males was wearing an expensive suit.
Ashton arched an eyebrow.
"Do you really think I'm this trendy?" He asked.
It all looked rich, but really. He didn't need that major of a replacement for what he was wearing. Unless she thought he was out of touch?

The back of the squad car was crowded. Tigers did that. In the front, Ashton's knuckles were white against the steering wheel. He'd already called for someone to stop by the school and talk to the people there. Smooth things over with the X-men.
The detective already had known it would be on their turf. It only made sense they'd try and interfere. At least Shinbo had been someone he'd worked with before. He wouldn't be back to talk to them himself. He'd leave that to the people he called.
It didn't take long for the people to arrive. One squad car with two people to take statements. Get all the information. The taller of the two was 6'5, chiseled like the statue of David, with a similar physique. The only real difference was that he wore pants. His skin was white like a statue, his movements and words, hard. His partner at his side was slight, by comparison. 5-foot-nothing. Short-cut black hair, done in a pixie. Sprite-like features. They approached the group.
"We are here to take statements," the man said. "My name is Officer Stone."
"And I'm Helena," the dark-haired woman interrupted spiritedly. "If you'd all follow our orders..."
The rest of the afternoon was interviews and investigations. Eventually, all parties were released.

"You hear that?" He turned back to the blond woman, donning a charming smile. "Cold and cheap. And good."
"Beer, it is..." The woman replied uncomfortably. She tried to keep a smile awkwardly fashioned onto her face. There was silence for a moment, while she waited for him to volunteer. No dice. "Do you think you could...?"
Ashton had already moved his focus back to Archer. He was ignoring the blond behind him. She was hot. She was desperate. It was a bad combination. The neediness just added to the unattractiveness. By comparison, talking with Archer was a far more attractive option. That did not mean he thought Archer was more attractive, no. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell.
"So, besides cold, cheap beer. What do you like at bars, Archer?" He continued, conversationally. "Buffalo wings? Sports on TV? Darts?"

He returned her salute with his beer. As the drink came back in contact with the counter, a voice from behind caught his ear. It was a quiet voice, a gentle voice that may have betrayed some interest. The line 'come here often' betrayed more than her tone of voice had. Usually, that was the sort of thing you heard big bulky men saying to dames and broads in night clubs and seedy dives. A pick up line. Was she trying to pick him up?
Ashton noticed Archer leaning forward to check around him. He followed her gaze, around and around, glancing over one shoulder at the woman at his side.
The woman was small and pretty, with a hint of red. He regarded her politely for a second, thinking to himself.
This woman was attractive, and obviously interested in him. The kind of woman he could sneak away from the bar meeting with, on any given Friday. This wasn't any given Friday, though.
"Do you need something, Miss?" Ashton asked. Silently, he cursed the code of conduct generally befitting a drinking party with 'best buds' and 'squad members'. Bros before members of the opposite sex were the terms for the night. It would be rude to Archer to break from tradition, just for some pretty little thing with legs.
The blond kept up her act, unflinching in the face of the word 'miss', unknowing of just how 'miss' her attempt to 'hit' on the guy had been. "I was wondering if you could give me a drink selection?" She asked. "This is my first time. In this bar." The way she'd said 'first time' had spoken a whole other tone from what the message had meant to be. It told things. Insecurity. At picking up guys. A first experience. She bowed her head, acting away the role of a timid blond in need of advice.
Ashton didn't buy the act. He swung back to Archer. "Well," He said. "What do you think is good around here, Archer? For the lady?"
