The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

There was something Susan Hyde had to prove, in an accurate and scientific way that provides results for future references in case the issue was questioned ever again. Her people skills did not suck. ... that bad. ... All right, maybe they did. But that was something that could be improved with practice, wasn't it? People were doing it all the time. There must be some carefully designed way of acquiring the secret knowledge of behaving like a social being. But, like oter kinds of secret knowledge, this one didn't come without sacrifices. That was why, when a group of Mansion students she couldn't really tell apart under all the winter clothing, asked her if she wanted to 'tag along' for some socializing and winter sports, the witch said yes. Well, she didn't say 'yes', per se, she just put on a winter coat and a red-and-black scarf, and followed them all the way to Central Park without saying a word. You gotta start somewhere.
There was one small problem: Susan couldn't skate. It was one of those things all the girls did, and she didn't do. There was many of those things. So now, having made the first step by tagging along, she sat on the edge of the ice ring with the borrowed skates on her feet, fidgetig with the hem of her skirt, watching people glide or stumble by. The ice had its own, tingling sound that came in light-blue waves, mixed with the other sounds made by a crowd of cheerful people. It smelled like winter and hot chocolate. The teenage witch kicked the wall she was sitting on with her heels idly. Stumbling looked painful.

"There aren't a lot of people patient enough, for starters. My family doesn't know. I think it's probably best since I may loose their memory some day anyway. My job knows. They're flexible as far as I know. They depend on my ability." She had a job, one that was aware of her abilities, and made good use of them. Interesting. As far as Susan knew, most mutants were outcasts of some kind or another, living on the outskirts of society, hiding their abilities if they could, or at least using them in an environment where they were accepted - among other mutants. But for someone to deal with such a difficult mutation alone, not to mention work with it... Interesting. "I can see how your abilities can be useful" Susan nodded, picking up her glass of water "Good for you." She stared at the water for a moment, tasting it with her eyes before bringing it to her lips. "Mine are still fairly out of control" she admitted "But it will also have its own use, once I get down to doing some experiments." she confided in the strange lady "Sometimes you just have to work on your own, huh. I am not sure if there is anyone in this city that can help a mutant with one specific kind of ability..." She was in musing mode now. It happened a lot when she was around other mutants. There were just so damn many questions buzzing around.

There was no sign of Juka as Susan ran down the corridor towards the main entrance. She could hear the barks and claws clicking on the floor behind her; adrenaline probably kept her senses in check, because she really just heard them. How weird. Bursting through the door into the entrance hall, Susan skidded to a halt, boots slipping on the floor. The door was there, locked and sealed, guarded by another huge black hound, which was staring at her with its fangs bared. If there was a way out of the house, this was definitely not it. The witch spun around and headed for the only other exit she could see; this one did not lead outside though, it lead into another hallway, with several doors. Susan heard fangs snapping inches behind her legs; she wouldn't have time to try and open a door that was closed. Her only chance was to go through the one that was open. Almost tripping on the threshold, Susan burst into a study room, spun around, and slammed the door with all her strength just in time to feel something colliding with the wood on the other side, and hear a high-pitched yelp as the door closed on something hard. She pulled back and slammed it again. This time it locked, and there was silence outside. The witch spun around again, panting, ready to face whaetever would be waiting for her in the study room. It was three teenagers, looking every bit as scared as she was. One of the girls was bleeding from her back. "Mutants" Susan panted, eyes momentarily swimming black to register the opalescent aura around the three of them "... I mean, they are. Mutants. Not ghosts." Taking another deep breath, she stepped away from the door. Well, at least her theory had been proven. Now all that was left was to survive the consequences.

Susan observed the sign of the restaurant and shrugged. "I don't really have a preference as to the cultural origins of my meals." Dark eyes turned yellow and blue for a few moments; the place, just like most others that served food, was surrounded by a multicolored cloud of smells and flavors. "... but food here tastes decent. We can go in." Once inside, it took a few minutes for Susan to regain control over her senses; it usually happened when there was too much information in her immediate environment, and food places were the trickiest of all. Especially when she was hungry. There was food that looked spicy and food that tasted azure and green; there was food that smelt burning hot and food that made fresh chirping sounds like salads usually do. Susan's hands traveled up to her ears and eyes, and she bit her lips, forcing herself to regain control. "Um. Yeah. Sorry." she shook her head, attention turning back to Noel as they moved towards an empty table "So, you have been dealing with the effects of your powers all by yourself? Or you received help from others?..."

"I'm afraid I won't be able to set you up with a room, but there should be someone around to help you settle in. Let me know if there's anything at all that I can do to help." So, here she was. In a Mansion full of mutants. A school. A new school. Boarding school. She wondered if she'd have roommates again. It was not a pleasant thought. Even though mutant roommates can't possibly be as stupid as the ones back in her high school. They just can't. Or Susan would have to call for help again. And after a demon and a woman half made of metal, who knows what would come to the rescue next time... "Thank you" she looked at Meld, and tried her best to push the awkwardness that usually accompanied social interaction into the back of her mind "I really appreciate you coming to help me. I am sure we'll meet again soon." It was really as simple as that. The Witch moved into the Mansion.

There were definitely more people in this house. Susan frowned. Just how many teenagers decided to show up and ruin her experiment? And what was the point in coming in hordes? Didn't that defeat the purpose of a dare?... Susan moved on to the dining room and then to the kitchen, letting Juka follow her or wander around, she really didn't care all that much. She didn't really need light to see - her other senses took care of that. The most logical explanation was that there was a mutant - maybe more - in the house. Experiment no. 1: search for the mutant. The moment the two voices filled the house and the exits were sealed away, Susan could tell she'd found him. And her. Both voices had that strange unique color to them, opalescent and very prominent, that she had learned to distinguish as the signature of the X gene. They also had an edge to them, something sharp and uneven, like broken glass. Or something else, twisted till it broke. "You are mutants." she answered the voices, folding her arms over her chest "I am not impressed." A growl answered her, low, feral and pitch black, creeping out from the far corner of the kitchen, curling tentacles like something alive. Susan's eyes snapped back to normal as she slowly backed away from the sound. Another answered the first one, just as deep and hungry, from the other corner; there was a third one, between the two. Shadows moved and Susan's eyes turned red at her command, to reveal the source of the sounds: three enormous, black hounds were moving towards her through the kitchen, claws clicking on the tiles, fangs bared. The witch slowy took a step back, then another one; keeping her eyes on the dogs, she kept moving away and towards the door. "Go. Away." she bared her own teeth at them. It didn't work. "Umm. Juka?" she called out, not looking to check if the man was still around "Run." With that, Susan twirled around and ran out of the kitchen, slamming the door shut and not looking back to see if it stopped the dogs. Howling echoed down the halls behind her, and the sound of splintering wood. Not. Fun.

Susan nodded at Meld's explanation about powers. That was an interesting take on being a mutant. Susan liked it. 'Training her powers' would mean a lot of work, wich was good, because nothing annoyed the witch like boredom; she was also fairly curious about what the potential of her powers could be. She'll just have to try and see. "I used to live at Sanctuary but had a...falling out you could say with the people who ran it. Ghost was kind enough to accept me at the Mansion and I've been there ever since." Ghost. Susan stored that name in her mind for further inspection. They really did use codenames. How fascinating. Approaching the Mansion, Susan couldn't help but stare. The setting itself was impressive, but not as much as all the colors she could see, smell, and taste about it: dozens of people, mutants, tudents, all in one place, it made her sixth sense tingle, even from this distance. Her eyes changed colors rapidly several times before she regained control, shaking her head. "Hm. Impressive."

"And I'm sure it was a relief to find out you werent' a witch." Susan wrinkled her nose. "For them, maybe. I personally wouldn't mind being a witch. It is a form of power based on knowedge and experience, not something you are born with... contrary to common belief." she added with a smirk. There was a lot of that going around in poplar culture lately... "... but I have to admit, in my case genetics make more sense." Meld seemed to be in a close relationship with Pluto. It could be seen in the way her voice colored more bright, talking about him. "...though I suppose he wouldn't fit in any less than I do and I still live there." Susan tilted her head. "Why did you coose the Mansion?"

Susan would come to listen. Not many people know she plays the flute and she is not comfortable on the stage. But listening to music with her senses must be quite an experience...

There is no such thing as ghosts.
Susan knew that. She was also aware of the fact that what people labeled as 'ghosts' could have been a whole variety of things, beings and phenomena, most of them with completely reasonable scientific explanations behind them. Like people being able to change eye colors and smell sounds. Not witchcraft. Genetics.
That was the main reason why Susan Hyde a.k.a. Witch never understood teenagers who spent the night in 'haunted' places just for kicks. Unreasonable fear as such was not her thing. Curiosity, on the other hand, was what made the world of science go around. There had been a lot of talk about 118 Apple Street lately. It was all over the news earlier, and it soon became the favorie spot of people looking for an adrenaline rush. Most of them got way more than they bargained for.
Susan saw the whole trip as one simple science project. If there was something in that house, be it a ghost or something more realistic, she would be the one to sense it. It was not heroics, or a stupid bet, or anything of the sort. She just statistically had the most chance to discover something that fools people's senses. Because she had way more than five of them.
Why the Candy Sweet Guy wanted to tag along, she had no idea. She was good with science, but, as one person had put it not so long ago, her people skills sucked butt. Juka didn't seem like the type that has a thing for logic and science; he seemed like the type who was interested in the ghosts. At best. But Susan, for once, didn't mind the company, as long as he knew when to shut up.
The house looked haunted, it smelled haunted, even the silence around it was bordering on horror movie cliché. Susan smirked as she walked up to the door, and stopped; it was not closed. For a moment she considered turning around and going home - there was no use going in when someone else already did. Screaming and giggling teenagers could ruin any science project, she knew that for a fact. Then again, it was easy to scare them away from a house like this too. Susan smirked as she pushed the door open, and walked in. No sign of teenagers. Must be cowering under a bed already. "All right." she said to the House itself, hands on her hips as she looked around "Bring it."

"And Pluto is the name he chooses to go by. If he once had a different name would it really matter? How did you find him if you don't mind my asking?" She did glow with the smile. It was a warm, copper-colored glow, strangely enough complementing her very being, and made Susan arch an eyebrow in mild surprise. What do you know. "He saved me from my darling roommates who were trying to excorcise the demon that, according to their theory, had possessed me and made me say mean things about their intellectual capabilities." she smirked "They were clearly not expecting the demon to appear in front of them." The subway started to move, and Susan swayed a little, one hand holding onto her suitcase, but she didn't reach with the other for support. "He was the one who told me I was a mutant, and not a witch." she added, with an expression between a smirk and a frown. Too bad. Demon and witch could have made a great team. A witch with actual magical powers, that is. Wishful thingking. "So... you know him" she observed, looking at Meld "He's not one of the Mansion people, is he."

"We were just leaving. We can go somewhere and talk. Know anywhere good?" Susan shook her head. "No, not really. But we can keep walking, and see if we find a place we like." And so they started out, the witch and the forget-me-not, through a less popular area of the city. "So. How do you deal with forgetting things?" she asked, with scientific curiosity "Do you have a job? There were places for people like this. The most obvious, of course, would be a mental intitute, but since the X gene had been discovered, there were more comfortable options too. Like the school she'd heard about. She tried to imagine being a mutant with an average job and an average life, and failed. Whatever powers one possessed, even the most trivial ones, would change their life for good. She had only known about mutants for weeks, and she could already tell that. hat was not included in the question was the thought of her own future. How do mutants make a living?...

"Never disparage the gifts you've been given. Even something passive can be of great use in the right circumstances." Susan actually smiled at that. It was the smile of the teenage witch that had just turned the first annoying brat of a prince into a nice slimy toad. "I am comfotable with being a mutant" she nodded "And synestesia allows for a unique way of perception." Looking around, her eyes swam black as she looked at the flock of disapprovingly orange-and-grey murmurs surrounding their unusual pair. No matter how you all stare, I can stare better. "So, Meld is not your real name, is it?" she asked, turning back to the woman "Is it common among mutants to have names like that? I met one called Pluto. I am not sure that was his real name either. But since 'Susan Hyde' was given to me by my foster family... I am not sure how much longer I will use it." Names. In many cultures they held powerful magic. Since she decided to start a new life in the mutant world, she might as well start with the name...
