The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He chuckled as she spoke. "Well...." he paused a moment. "Let's just say I have a handful of 'indecent exposure' infractions on my record. It would probably be more but no judge really knows what else to stick me with besides public nudity. And anything implying that I got arrested for merely being a mutant would be one hell of a lawsuit. Which is a damn shame. I could use that kinda money," he said with a grin, but then sorta shrugged it off.
"Usually anything I'm wearing just sorta....falls off. While I can put my backpack on after shifting...that took practice. And I'm not sure a canine has what it takes to put a collar on. So I just have to hope for the best. Though usually I can outrun them pretty well. I may look like a dog, but inside I'm still me, and I know this part of the city better than I know most people," he said, still sort of grinning.

"You know checkers doesn't remotely compare to you, right?" he murmured after pulling away from the kiss, but just enough so their lips were barely separated.
And then, she'd kissed him again, and his arms ran up and down her back gently, one of them moving up to tangle in her hair as it usually did. His eyes closed as his breath sharpened and his heart pounded in his chest. She was really the only one who got this kind of reaction out of him.

Almost no one heard the losing dog's final whimper. Almost.
Jay was in the crowd, trying his best to conceal the rage, the anger, and the downright heartbreak that this godawful activity brought down on him. His hands were stuffed in the pockets of his jacket as he hung towards the back of the crowd. No one really noticed the new face. After all, it wasn't like he'd made his presence known.
He'd cased this place out for awhile after getting wind of a dog-fighting ring while in shift. It was something no one was supposed to hear, of course, but no one expects the golden retriever. He'd continued going by the place in the shift--which thankfully wasn't desirable for a dog-fight; they were too sweet. And then, when the time was right, he'd assumed his brindle-colored boxer, was put into a crate, and then taken inside. But he escaped, and shifted back human, changing into the clothes he had nearby while the fighting was going on.
This really was a pathetic operation. It was pretty sloppy, for lack of a better word. Hell, no one had even noticed him yet. And the room was pretty cramped. Though he usually hated these tight spaces, it was going to work for him today. There wouldn't be anywhere to go but out once he enacted his plan.
He shuddered, cringing a little as his above-average hearing picked up on the final sounds of the fight above even the roars of the crowd. The sounds were really getting to him; the noise of the crowd was messing with his head, and the sounds of the fighting were making his stomach turn somersaults. He hated it. Every last bit of it. And he was going to be the lone wolf to tear this ****hole apart.
Speaking of lone wolves, Jay sneakily backed into a corner, and in the blink of an eye, he was no longer the tall, lanky blond he had been. Standing on the clothes he had been wearing only a second ago, was a large, grey wolf. Muscles coiled and tensed as he took in the smells the even keener nose of the wolf picked up. He could smell the blood in the pit below. The sweat dripping off of the spectators.
He stayed pressed against the corner, slipping behind a crate as he waited.
Another fight started, and then the wolf emerged from his hiding place, charging the crowd and lunging for the nearest spectator.
Jay knew a little something about chasing thieves; after all, he was on the other end of this a lot more often than he'd have liked to admit. And he knew the best way to catch someone like him. Though, the wild dog had a bit of an edge in this matter. He didn't have to see per se, and the crowd parting was more of a nuisance when it came to subterfuge.
No, once he had a good idea of the guy's location, he slipped into an alley, then turned onto a side street, then made full circle by turning yet again. He knew the neighborhood and this little detour spit him out a little bit farther ahead. Stopping, he closed his eyes and sniffed the air, catching the faint hint of his target and leather. He crouched, stalking more like a cat than a dog by now, as he approached behind the culprit.
Then, he sprang, aiming to sink his teeth right into the tender bits of the thief's backside.

He chuckled, shaking his head with a laugh. "No, not really!" he said as he flashed a grin. Then, he leaned in, his feet planted on the floor as he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her in for a kiss. It was more passionate than most of the others, but it wasn't forceful, and there was still a level of tenderness to it.
After a moment, he pulled back. "That's closer to the idea I had..." he murmured. Okay, he'd cracked first. But it was worth it.

"Only pretty good?" he teased, faking a pout as he spoke, but that didn't last long as his smile began to break through the charade. He knew what she meant.
And then, her innocent voice made him smile again, though he wasn't sure how serious she was about that; after all, they were only just getting to know each other outside of...certain extracurricular...though that may not have been out of the question tonight, either. But, he smiled a little mischievously at her question, then gave a shrug as his face faded to something more deadpan.
"I don't know. I mean I've got a checker board over there if you're interested," he said with a feigned innocence, himself. He wondered how she was going to react, or if this was just going to keep on until somebody finally cracked.

He chuckled at her stealing his cheesecake; it was so much more...playful than he'd seen her the other times she'd come over. He had to admit he liked this side of her. It was adorable, to be honest. Then, he smiled, seeing the blush come across her face. That was something else he was enjoying. They were both in uncharted territory, but he was thinking he could get used to this in no time.
"Honestly, I had the dinner planned, but I didn't really get beyond that. I sort of put all my eggs in this basket, so to speak. So...I'm at a loss." He gave a slight shrug, the twinkle in his eyes saying he did have one idea...

He smirked. "We still talking about food?" he joked, winking as he took another bite. He shook his head lightly at her words. "It always tastes better when it belongs to somebody else, doesn't it?" he said with a smile, adding another wink.
After a few moments, he finished his cheesecake, and pushed his plate back, finishing his beer. "Alright...I'm done," he said, leaning back on the stool slightly, just enough to relax. After a moment, he stood up, rummaging through the counters and packing up the alfredo and stuffing it in the fridge before grabbing another beer.
He popped it open, then sat next to Lee again. "So what do you think of your first date?"

"Yeah, it's better than any I could have made," he said with a smile. "I didn't think you were done eating yet, which is why I didn't grab you any. Can't tempt you with dessert when you aren't done with the entree~" he said with a wink. Then, he set his fork down, gave her a kiss on the cheek, and stood to his feet.
He walked back around the counter, putting a piece on a plate for her, but in his other hand, he grabbed the whole platter of cheesecake. The plate, he sat in front of her, and he set the platter between them before reclaiming his seat next to her and grabbed another slice.

"I knew I liked you," he murmured, taking a sip of beer.
Then when she asked about her piece, he looked across the kitchen to where he'd set the cheesecake. It wasn't far, but he'd have to get up. And he really didn't want to do that right now.
Taking a forkful, he held it to her, offering her a bite.

He grinned when she said she may come over anyway; it made his heart do little flips in his chest. He was thrilled that this was actually working, and he was glad this would be more than just a one or two time thing.
"We'll have to see; this is a lot fancier than what I usually do, after all. Though normally, I'm by myself," he said with a slight laugh as he waited for her to finish. In the meantime, he was just enjoying the time they were spending together, talking. It was as perfect as he could have hoped for.
After a few moments, he stood up, making his way to the fridge and pulling out the cheesecake. It was pre-cut, so he just grabbed himself a slice before making his way back around to where she was.

"You could come by and see me before work anyway," he said with a flirty wink. "But I think I'd like that. Give us something else to do together."
He chuckled a little a he looked at her. This was going rather nicely, between the dinner and the banter. It really wasn't bad for his first date in years; he just hoped her first date probably ever was going just as well.
"Well there's a store-bought cheesecake in the fridge. I'm a decent cook, but I'm not so much a baker," he said with a soft laugh. "And if dessert is a letdown, just eat more of the entree. Or we could find something else," he retorted with another wink as he finished his plate and took a few sips of beer.

"Even if you never use it, it'd be fun to learn, and to teach you, right?" he said with a smile. "Not that you'd need another excuse to come over, but there's that too," he added with a sly wink.
After that, they were both looking at their plates and didn't see each other blush, but Jason ate until he felt his cheeks return to normal, no longer radiating with heat. "Yeah, this is looking to be a pretty good date, and the food is pretty damn good," he repeated, still smiling.
"Would you dock points if I didn't make dessert?" he asked somewhat teasingly, though he really hadn't put thought into dessert. Though he was sure he could figure something out pretty soon.

"I could teach you a couple things sometime. Enough to survive, at the very least," he said with a smile as he popped open his beer. Then, he smiled, a light blush coming to his cheeks as she said she liked it, and how incredible everything was. It made his heart flutter a little; he was thinking that this whole relationship thing was a good idea. Despite the apprehension at first, the first date was going quite well.
"I try. Figured if this was going to be our first actual date, I should pull out all the stops," he said with a wink as he took a sip of beer, diving into his plate. "I don't make this often, but I figured you were worth seeing if I could still make it," he said after swallowing, then took another bite.

She was taking a long time hanging up her coat. Though he wondered if maybe she was a little taken aback by the lighting, and the candles, and the flowers. After all, he'd just told her there'd be food. He didn't say it'd be shrimp alfredo and a romantic atmosphere. So in that sense, he understood. This was new to both of them, and he decided something sweet would be a nice place to start. He went to the fridge and grabbed a couple of beers to set down next to their plates. "I don't like wine, so I hope beer's okay," he said, half-jokingly.
"It's pretty easy to make; it just takes a lot of dishes. But it's worth it if you do it right," he said with a smile as he slid onto the stool next to her. He just looked over at her for a minute, taking in how her face looked in the candlelight. Her usual perfume with an overtone of coffee blended with the smoke of the candles and the overall smell of the shrimp alfredo and the garlic bread. Though he hadn't told her about his sensitive his sense of smell was.
After a moment, he turned to his food and took a bite. "I hope you like it."
