The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"A pleasure to meet you Abyss." The words were said with just a little hesitance, given the state of the thugs that had been dealt with (which he still refused to admit were probably dead) but he was Venus' brother, after all. Juka bowed and, if the bow was a little less formal than usual, it still portrayed respect.
With another uncomfortable look at the bodies lying littered on the ground, Juka floated a few feet away, hoping that Abyss would follow and they would be able to exit the grisly scene. That way, at least, he wouldn't have to think about it too much. "Venus mentioned brothers, I just didn't think about them. And don't worry, I'm happy to meet his family, even if they aren't the lovers he is." A seductive wink followed the words.
"So what brings you to this part of town?"
Juka looked at the ground sheepishly. "I was bored and I wanted to find someone to rescue but I don't really think that you needed rescuing did you?"
"My poor Ninja Koga," Juka said with the softest possible sympathetic pat on the shoulder once he had finished his origin story. It wouldn't do be have his sympathy cause more pain than he was all ready in, kind of defeated the purpose of being sympathetic. "Many people don't understand mutants but the solution to that problem isn't violence and death, its education and showing them through example that not all mutants are bad. We're human too, we just happen to have powers along with everything else." Almost funny to be talking about education given how much of an indifferent student he was back in high school.
"Ssspeaking of hurt, I think I might be ready to casssh in thessse achesss and painsss for an advil or two."
A sudden realization, at those words, that Juka might actually be able to take an advil for his pain now that his bubble was gone. Oh, happy day, happy happy day. One never knew how much they would miss such things until they were forcibly taken from you. And, joy of all joys, he might actually be able to sleep now too! Not that he really felt tired, his bubble only having disappeared recently, but if he could only figure out how to become tired...It stood to reason that if his bubble could make him less tired then perhaps it could make him more tired too, right? Things to consider.
"Now that trainin' thing sound really good. I'm in. C'mon I'll walk ya down to Doc before I go to bed. We all deserve some rest don't we."
"You wonderful, beautiful woman, I do believe you just read my mind." Unfortunately the walk to the good Doc's infirmary was going to hurt, wasn't it? And there wasn't even cookies at the end of that trip. Oh well, sometimes sacrifices had to be made and if he was going to be a proper super hero he would just have to get used to them.
Juka had the distinct feeling that he was making Cafas vaguely uncomfortable and that confused him just a little. Weren't they supposed to be friends now? Isn't talking about the important things in life what friends did with one another? Then again, for all the casual friends that Juka had, he didn't have much in the way of true friends. So many were either out for his body, or because he was a musician and played in a band or just to absorb a little bit of the spotlight that tended to fall upon him. His old band, now they were true friends, but they were thousands of miles away, back in Japan and he, well, wasn't. He had made a promise to his parents never to come back. It was depressing to realize just how few people he had in his life that would really stand up for him.
"Well I can help with that if you fancy kick boxing. I tend to favour weapons but I still have quite a bit of experience in it, enough to teach you a more effective form anyway."
The words brought Juka forcibly back to reality and the realization that, even if Cafas had no interest in his personal motivations, he was still a good person and didn't seem the type to be trying to absorb his ever-present spotlight. "Thank you so much for the offer, dearest Cafas." He thought about giving the man a hug and then thought better of it. Something told him that Cafas wasn't the type to appreciate hugs from other men, even men as beautiful as he.
"I wouldn't mind Equality with humans. Or an awesome car. I'd like to be able to return home and find my parents, tell 'em I forgive 'em. That's what I plan to fight for anyway, a world where I can do that. Also I wanna learn how to fly planes and skydive."
"Oh, I can help with the skydiving part," Juka answered with a mischievous grin. The joys of being able to float in a bubble. "Just dawn your parachute and you can jump out of a bubble!"
Just letting everyone know that I probably won't be doing much posting this weekend. Have to go do the family thing which means much traveling and much absence of computer. I should be back and posting again on Monday. This affects both Meld and Juka.
"Well, this is actually supposed to be my neighborhood. I actually rented a flat on the block we were on, before the sirens moved us here. It seemed to be a nice place at first, until some noisy guy moved in next door. Been awful after that. The roof's been my sanctum ever since, but I do need somewhere safer."
Juka felt for her, he really did. How awefully intolerable must it be to have someone so inconsiderate and obnoxious. It just wasn't a pleasant situation to think about. "Maybe I could threaten them with anvils and they'd be a little quieter?" It wasn't really a serious offer. At least not mostly.
"Um, I hope it's not too much to ask, but I... I wouldn't mind being accompanied to the mansion. I don't even know my way there."
Juka's bubble made a happy sort of hopping gesture, rising a foot and then falling again as he grinned his approval. "Now that, deasest one, is a fantastic idea. I know you will posatively love it there." How could one not love the Mansion, after all? It seemed a verifiable impossibility.
"Allrigh, we're takin' ya to the school then. Ya can come back for your stuff in the apartment later when the neighborhood's not crawlin' with cops."
Now that really did seem practical. "Its no worry for me to get down, sweet Gawain. If either of you beautiful people need my assistance I would be more than happy to transport you in a bubble."
What is the mutant resonance field and how does it relate to MRO? Sorry if this is something that was covered in the comics, most of my X-men knowledge comes from the 90s cartoon and I don't remember such a thing being mentioned. Of course, my memory is certifiably horrible so its possible I just forgot.
"It's starting to get cold, don't you think? And the chill is starting to seep through the frays in my jacket..."
Juka blinked. Sometimes, being wrapped in his nice warm bubble as he was, he forgot about such inconveniences as cold and wet that most other people had to deal with every day. Just one more benefit of being able to float around in a bubble. "We could certainly take you to the Mansion," Juka agreed with an affirmative nod of the head. It was rather sad for her, the state her jacket was in. He made a mental note to rectify that for her as soon as possible. No one should be relegated to wearing clothing that degreded and if she didn't have the money to replace it, he certainly did.
"Yeah, but you can throw anvils and stuff around, and let me tell ya, that's kinda scary."
Juka gave Gawain a sheepish grin. He hadn't meant to attack him with anvils, honest. Was it his fault that he had gone temorarily crazy so soon after Aura's attack on him and his mind had played tricks on him, convinced that Gawain was actually Aura? He liked to think not but he still felt terribly guilty about what had happened. At least he had turned out ok, no real harm done. But still. Another mental note was made, this one to buy Gawain something special by way of apology.
"I walked up to the gate and demanded to see my Jewelly," Juka informed them both. His Jewelly, of course, being a close personal friend from his youth, his parents and hers having done business together many times in the past. Perhaps they still did, since he hadn't spoken to his parents in months he wasn't really sure.
Juka waited with angelic patience as Maxine gathered her Rex, unhappy as her Rex appeared to be. He then took hold of her hand and stepped closer to her, in order to ensure that they would both fit within the range of his bubble. It just wouldn't do for her to fall out the other side, now would it? "Hold on tight," Juka cautioned with a mischevious grin. Actually there wasn't much need of holding on tight so long as she didn't try to remove her hand from his or move too far away from him. It was actually quite safe, all things considered.
With no more warning than that, Juka commanded his bubble to appear and so it did, causing both himself and Maxine to rise from the ground a foot. A moment later he commanded his bubble to go higher and it rose, with surprising swiftness, until they were floating 100 ft above the crowd below. He paid no attention to the looks of awe and horror from those mortals far below him, what were they to him, after all? All that mattered was the freedom of the skies that his bubble offered and sharing that freedom with a friend. Oh, the poor earth bound mortals below them who had no conception of what they were missing.
Revelling in the attention he was being paid and the rare opportunity Juka had to show off his power, he performed acrobatics in the air, spinning and summersaulting this way and that. Gravity had no bearing on him nor on Maxine, at least for the time being. This was where he was truly in his element and surely all who witnessed his display would realize it. During his time trapped in his bubble he had almost forgotten the joy that his bubble granted but here, showing his power to another, he remembered.
“ Definitely I like, Maybe I’ll take. Like the legend of how Cthulhu ssshowed up on Christmasss eve? Well, for the most part it works like tonight did. A mutant sssized problem happensss and the x men ressspond, They’re working with the NYPD right now to try to take the MCR down. The mutant crime rate. But yeah anyway, they sssend out groupsss to fix problemsss, we try to negotiate firssst and fight sssecond, at leassst that isss what we are sssupposed to do. We fight to the point of capture and try to avoid casssualtiesss at all costsss. I mean I guessss sssometimesss it happensss. And that isss jussst assssuming that it is a fight, we work on disssassster recovery. Firesss. Hurricanesss, blizzardsss, giant clay monstersss. Pretty much anytime we can help, we do. And we work to try to improve the human mutant coexissstence. Sssomebody hasss to ssshow them we aren’t all homicidal maniacsss.”
Juka could just imagine what kind of legend would grow out of the Cthulu incident. When Elder Gods attack or some such thing (even if it was only one Elder God). And, of course, the heroic mutant children and teens that saved the day for the entire city. Maybe someone would write a book about it. "Its what heroes do," Juka agreed with the ninja Koga. "We have to show the world that we aren't all like that evil villain Aura and her human killing ways. Some of us actually have respect and admiration for our human counterparts, or at least basic respect for life."
“ I usssed to day dream about being a mutant before I became one. About being Heroic. it’d be a ssshame to throw away the chance now.”
"The only dream I ever had was that of becoming a rock star," Juka added, with a touch of sorrow. It was a little unfortunate, looking back on his life now, just how shallow he had been but at least he had a chance to make up for all that and at least he hadn't done anything really bad in his youth. "I still want to become a rock star, or at least a proper rock muscision, but now I know there are more important things to strive for too." Juka settled himself gingerly upon a couch.
"I can imagine how ya felt when ya found out about your X-gene then. I dunno about that, I was born with my powers active, and raised by mutants. So, let me ask ya somethin'. Both of you." she looked down at Koga with a smirk, then up at Juka-with-the-cookie-jar "D'ya think ya need a mutation to be a hero?..."
"I discovered my mutation when life was at its worse. It was aweful when we moved to Japan. I had no friends and my parents were constantly dissapointed in me. I might have done something drastic if I hadn't found out I could escape all my problems by floating in a bubble, if only for a little while. I think those without mutantions can become heroes too, but its tough. All you really need is the will and the act to do something good. Its just a little easier for us with powers."
In no time at all, Juka had Maxine added to his number list. He saw the look she had, knew that she probably wanted his name for more than just casual friendship. Reporters were like that and he was a celebrity, after all (even if it was only a minor one). Besides, that was just fine with him. A reporter contact would be just as useful to him as a muscision contact would be to her. Once he had his new band formed he knew exactly who to contact now when it came to promoting his shows.
“Yes, please!”
"You'll love it I'm sure!" Juka assured Maxine with enthusiasm. He enjoyed showing off his power almost as much as he enjoyed performing in front of hordes of adoring fans. Normally he would have insisted that the two of them go some place a little less visible to prying curious eyes, but considering the fact that he had all ready bubbled in public this day and they still had an octoclip as well as an animated pen following them around, it didn't really seem to be necessary.
"If I might have your hand, dearest one?" Juka asked, offering a hand for Maxine to take. One of the limitations of his bubbles were that only the main one was large enough to bubble something human sized and then only if they were in contact with his skin.
Juka wasn't paying much attention to his Venus and how he was dealing with the threatening humans, no more attention than to be aware of the fact that he was protecting himself from the threat. Ahh, so his lovely prince was both beautiful and knew how to take care of himself, was there anything that he couldn't do? Any trait in which he wasn't perfect? Fleeting though these thoughts were, given the current threat, he woudldn't have even had them had he realized that, far from merely incapacitating the thugs, Venus was killing them. The idea that his Prince could be a killer, just as bad as Aura, didn't even cross his mind. Why should it?
Juka concerned his attention with the remaining thug who was currently waving his baseball bat in a threatening manner in Juka's direction. For an instant he affiliated with some mutants' beliefs that humans really were stupid. What could he hope to do against a floating boy in a bubble armed with 200 lb anvils anyway? Annoyed that he should even have to deal with such a pest, Juka dove at the man, anvils swinging. The first anvil struck the baseball bat, shattering it, the second struck the man's head and he toppled much like his first unfortunate victim had done only moments before. Unless he had struck them far harder than he had intended to, both would survive with nothing more than a splitting headache and (hopefully) a new respect for mutant prowess.
“Good bye moron.”
That didn't sound right at all, not at all like his precious Venus. And there was screaming and the two human victims looked far worse for wear than Juka's victims. He refused to consider, however, that they were dead. Surely he had just gone a little overboard and with proper doctoring they would recover. "Venus?" Juka asked, hesitantly. No, something definately wasn't right here.
"Well, the big jump is only a part of my powers. Doesn't beat flying, heck, perhaps never could, but it's something. My powers are more or less simply described as attraction and repulsion forces. Look. Nothing special. They have a ridiculously short range, see and I always have to get around that. So, you mind telling me about your powers? I know Juka can fly, and Gawain, you uh... teleport or something, not that I could call it that, though. If I'm correct, you've got some restrictions, though you don't have to tell me..." "
Juka clapped, impressed by the display of wall walking. "Floating isn't so special," Juka assured the woman. As much as he loved his bubbles and wouldn't trade them for the world (or for any of the other numerous mutant powers that he had seen since coming to the city), he didn't want her to feel like her powers were inadequate. They were, after all, quite impressive in their own right and he had seen what she was able to do to the human thugs that had attacked her. Juka certainly couldn't do that. "And my powers are short range too." He extended a tendril by way of demonstration and bubbled a rock a few feet away. "Ten feet is about it. Any further and I flee for my life." He grinned, not being entirely serious. Though, of course, there was nothing wrong with fleeing if the situation warranted it.
"By the way, Juka, I'm pretty sure you could come up with something neat, but I doubt I have much hope for me. You just think about all the stuff you can do and liken yourself to something trendy, and presto. You get yourself a nickname."
Juka sighed in dramatic fashion. "Maybe but I just don't want to be known as the Amazing Bubble Boy or something like that." Bubbles being awesomely amazing powers or not, Bubble Boy just wasn't a heroic nickname. It was almost as bad as when his Jewelly had called his bubbles soap bubbles. For shame.
"As for powers... I'm a mirrorwalker. That's why some people call me Mirror. Very very original."
"Mirrorwalker." Juka nodded sagely. Well, now it all made perfect sence, the walking into his reflection and then reappearing elsewhere. Now that power almost beat floating, almost. But could a mirrorwalker ride a storm? He thought not and that fact, if nothing else, made his bubbles much more fun.
