The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Cafas was fighting on his back, struggling to get the simulated assailant off of him. The problem was that where humans got nice and punch drunk, sims did not. So Cafas was doing his very best to stop the baton impacting into his skull. "Damn, cancel sim, I concede." The weight was gone almost instantly. He almost felt like the danger room was laughing at him.
I'll show it...
Cafas took a moment to pay attention to Aiden and noticed that there wasn't much to pay attention to. An area of white out thick snow where he and the dummy had once been. For a moment Cafas considered stopping him. He didn't want Aiden going too far. Or did he? He wanted to know exactly how far Aiden could go, so did that mean he wanted him pushing to failure? He supposed it did.
I guess I'll just have to assume this means he's going hard.
"Keep the floor clear of snow."
He had no idea how the danger room would pull it off, but he had confidence that it would. Couldn't have Aiden tripping. "REMEMBER YOUR FOOTWORK! YOUR STRENGTH IS SPEED AND AGILITY, MAKE SURE YOU TRAIN FOR THEM!"
Aiden set to his task. Combos were a good starting point. Cafas wasn't sure he was up to training with a mobile target, but they really were just getting started. "Melee dummy, expert. Target Cafas."
A faceless crash test dummy appeared holding an improvised club of some sort. Cafas didn't get much of a chance to figure out what it was. The dummy went on the offensive straight away. Cafas danced out of the way of three successive shots then swung back. Hard plastic struck wood as the dummy parried the shot. Cafas swung low and the dummy dodged. It didn't predict the roundhouse kick Cafas followed through with. Still, it did its best to move out of the way.
Cafas' foot glanced off the dummy, which in turn stumbled back a step. That was enough opening for Cafas. He squared himself and charged directly into the simulation. It lifted off the ground and promptly slammed back down with Cafas on top of it. He flipped it over and pulled its arms behind it. "You have the right to blah blah terminate last command."
The dummy faded out. Cafas got up and turned to check on Aiden. "I know you've got more in you than up. Pick up the power and the pace." With any luck Aiden was young enough that the movements would turn instinctive. That was what it was, and would happen by itself if at all. Cafas wanted him sporting all the power his body could output.
"Strive to be the best version of you possible."
Cafas moved out of the chill zone and thought a moment. He knew the computer would have filed that combo away. It would be expecting it. With any luck that meant the next fight would be a bit more fun. "Melee dummy, expert, target Cafas."
Cafas dodged lazily around the blow. He almost felt like Aiden hadn't been trying. If he kept up that level of effort and creativity he would never hit Cafas.
The rest of the five blows landed over the next minute or so. Cafas had kind of expected that. "Okay, five hits landed. Now, keep trying to hit me."
By the time the time he had assigned for unarmed training was done there was snow settling all over the ring and it was getting slightly hard to see. He'd been hit a fair bit, and he'd pulled up short of hitting Aiden a few times too. "Right then Frostbite, let's go do what you actually came for." Cafas opened the gate and left the ring.
"Police batons, two."
Cafas grabbed the batons from the air as they appeared and moved to the weapons dummy. He handed one of the weapons to Aiden. He knew Aiden liked to use two weapons. Cafas however could not teach him that. So one was what he got in training. Though what he did outside was his own business.
"Right, you know the drill by now. Nothing new today. Today I want to see take what you have and push to your limit with it."
It was always good to see what someone considered to be their limits.
Aiden wasn't liking it. He knew that. Cafas hadn't liked hitting someone for the first time. It felt weird. Even in protective gear hitting someone felt innately wrong. Some point after that though you stopped getting that feeling. At least, he had stopped getting it.
He hit him again though. That was good. He could follow order that far at least. He doubted Aiden would hit anyone who hadn't asked him to, and who wasn't padded up. He'd work on that somehow. For now, this was a big step.
"Good, you seem at least capable of hitting someone, even if it is me. Now, try and hit me again. Keep going until you've hit me, let's say, five more times."
Cafas set himself up and prepared to dodge and block as necessary. He would tone the skill of it down to the average trained person. It wouldn't do Aiden's confidence any good if Cafas defended himself at his actual skill level.
A lot happened at once. Muscles tensed, relaxed, breath exhaled. All of it trained to the point of instinct. The result, a pain free experience of being punched in the gut.
Well, he didn't pull it, that's good.
Cafas took a step back smiling.
"Excellent. The first time you consciously decide to punch someone is the hardest. Just gets easier to do from here. Not the decision, that's always about the same, but acting on it." The decision was usually split second anyway. Just something Cafas knew he had to do.
Cafas cracked his neck and fell into a defensive stance.
There was the hesitation. Cafas didn't appreciate that at all. Hesitation could mean life or death on a mission. How to convince Aiden to actually hit him though? He didn't have any solid idea. Hmm this was throwing a spanner in his works.
It's not like he's about to hurt me through all this padding.
"That wasn't a suggestion, it was an order. Hit me. Now." Yes, orders, notorious for working! Well, his hand had been played, now he waited. It wouldn't do if Aiden couldn't hit people. What use was an X-man incapable of fighting? None. At least, not unless they were amazingly charismatic. Aiden lacked that as well however.
If he doesn't hit me soon I may have to speak to C.S. and get Aiden off the roster pending further training.
Positivity was clearly not Aiden's strong point. He was glad that hadn't changed, having someone positive around him for once might confuse him... Well, if he wanted to be like that. "Inspirational workout music. Moderate volume."
♪ ♫ ♪ Let's get down to business... To defeat the Hun! ♪ ♫ ♪
That'll do.
The rest of the lifting went by pretty quickly (lifting really didn't take that long) but they were just getting started. Cafas doubted Aiden appreciated 2 hour sessions, but that was the way things went. "Good, that took a bit over the half hour I wanted it to, but the weight was new to you. Now get in the octagon."
"MMA sparring pads."
The fact the pads appeared on their bodies was likely the weirdest part of the entire danger room. He wasn't sure he liked it. He could almost feel the simulated pads building themselves around his legs, hands, head and torso. Their sudden weight and tightness of the straps were disconcerting as well.
When Aiden made his way into the ring the gate swung shut. Cafas disliked how presumptive that was. "Alright. Hit me."
Well, his form had held up since their last session. The new level the weights had been taken to were throwing him a little though. "Watch that you're not slipping from form. It's tempting to try and compensate for the weight with other muscles, resist that urge." Cafas stacked some weights for himself. He had taken to training Aiden in his own training slot, so he had to get his own work out in.
"Could be worse,"
Unf
"Not what I asked mate."
Unf
"Positive responce, what improvements..."
Unf
"Have you noticed?"
Hmm maybe he had miscalculated his weight... He finished his set and checked the weights. No, they were right, in keeping with the progression he was trying. Maybe he had just hit a plateau. Might be time for a week off from the weights. He put the weight down and stripped off a few pounds.
"Another point, never be embarrassed to remove weight if you can't lift it with good form. It's the smart thing to do. You'll do more harm than good if you lose form and keep going."
Back to the lifting.
His own sets were a little longer than Aiden's, he had different aims though, and he got through them a little faster.
"Weights gym, MMA Octagon, weapons training dummy."
Wibbly wobbly lighty wighty stuff
The gym materialised around them.
"Today, we're going to take all that weights form training we did the last couple times, and put it to good use!"
He'd seemed alright at it. He was even toning up a bit, which was good to see.
"Same lifts, but take the weights we've been using so far and quadruple them. 5 sets of five reps each, adding weight each time set. Just add the smallest weight you can. Don't add more if you don't think you can handle it."
Cafas found the olympic bar and started loading plates onto it. Their routine started with dumbbells, Aiden had a better grasp of those, so Cafas put the barbell lifts later.
"Between sets you're going to tell me how you feel you're progressing."
How well DID he know Allison. Not that well he'd wager. "No idea why she's here, and the alternative is that some guy raped her and got her pregnant. Let's face it, if she'd wanted not to have it, the option is there."
He knew Saph handled perceived failures poorly. They'd filled their fair share of recycling bins with bottles because of it. It came with the territory, when failure meant so much. He pulled Saph into a one armed bro hug. "You didn't fail man, she's alive isn't she? More than can be said for them."
"Couldn't tell you 'bout the last bit though. She's from the sanctuary for starters. I doubt she'll put it together though, and I'm not going to help her if I can help it." Cafas looked around them, made sure no one had gotten to close. They seemed like they were fine. "C'mon they'll be waiting for us."
A thought occurred to Cafas as he set off. "How do you keep Kealey off the scent? She seems to know everything, what with her empathy."
"That was pretty much the reaction I was expecting. Sorry to cut this short on you, but our safety ended the minute she recognised you." Cafas began, calmly as possible, guiding Aiden back out of the cemetery. He didn't like the way she had spoken to him, or looked at him. He'd seen enough of that.
How are we getting out of town?
He couldn't rely on a cab, it was too far to walk, he didn't have any back up on call. He knew he had made an exit strategy. He wasn't sure what it had been though.
Oh... that's right.
He quickened his pace. He could hear the warning signs. He'd done enough work during the riots to pick up on it. He doubted Aiden would. If he did the kid had much more natural talent as an X-man than Cafas could hope to muster.
We are about to not want to be here.
He saw it up ahead, parked right where he'd left it. Not a scratch, and better yet, not a ticket. He ushered Aiden towards it. "Rule number one of unpredictable missions. Prepare an exit strategy." Cafas reached up under the wheel housing, found the key, and unlocked the car. He was sure no one at the mansion had missed it.
What in the F was Saph on about? A girl... The Judge.. Oh, pregnant! He knew that one! "Oh, Allison! You met her as the Judge? Something bad? Wait did you break up her rape?" He hadn't heard that part of the story, to his recollection. Had Saph asked a question though? He seemed to remember one.
Are we what?
...
Probably wants to know if you knocked her up.
"It's not my kid. Far out, first the magazines, now you? You know I have a boyfriend right? Honestly Saph, try to think more highly of me than that. After everything we've been through, honestly..." He shook his head and gave Saph a bit of a shove. Which of course did nothing.
"You never get used to that feeling..."
A thought occurred to Cafas in that moment. "She didn't... Recognise you, did she?" He hoped not, considering the company Allison kept. That would be bad for Saph, and ultimately all the X-men.
Oh yeah, this lady didn't like him. Cafas wondered if she'd even know he was an X-man... He couldn't risk it, the PR would be terrible. They really couldn't be dealing with that after CS. He sighed.
Aiden, to his credit, blew her off in a very inoffensive manner. Cafas felt like just throwing her as far as he could and seeing if she got the message. "Well, you surely will not mind if I join you for this special visit. Everyone will be dying to hear how you have been."
She completely turned her back on Cafas. Now that was unsubtle. Cafas grit his teeth and fell in beside Aiden. He slung an arm around his shoulders in a caring sort of way. "You just let me know when you're ready to go bud." Cafas looked across at the woman and looked her straight in the eye. He knew his eyes would be some crazy combination of colours at that moment. That ought to throw her for a loop.
Let's compound it!
Cafas slowly drew a coin out of his pocket and up to where the woman could see. He had broken eye contact, and was absent mindedly flicking it for a few minutes. Then he melted it. He wished he could look at her face without being too obvious.
After some time Cafas' attention began to drift. He could hardly be blamed. It was a lame day in a quiet cemetery.
A voice broke through his daze.
Well, that's probably not good.
He hung back a moment. The woman either hadn't noticed him or was purposefully ignoring him. Either way she didn't seem to realise he was with Aiden.
She seemed to think he'd been in rehab. What for she didn't say. He suspected, if his parents still gave a damn about him, that it would be for an injury. One never knew what they had actually told people though.
It seems at least that they did not wish to tell people Aiden is a mutant. Though do they know?
At any rate the woman seemed pleased enough to see him. He suspected Aiden was less than pleased to see her, and so approached.
Aiden was being remarkably quiet. He clearly did not wish to be speaking to this person, but Cafas couldn't really do much to bail him out. Not without being rude. He sure as heck could help him through the encounter though.
"Hi! How do you know Aiden?"
Cafas put a hand on Aidens back, between the shoulders, to let him know he was there for him. He also shot him a quick look to suggest that having this conversation may be easier than not.
Cafas followed Aiden down to the grave. There was a chance this was't the right grave after all, and he didn't know how Aiden would handle that.
He watched him crouch down. Watched him turn away and brush away the leaves. Watched him as he checked the name. Cafas checked too. It was the right spot. He didn't know whether to be glad or if he should feel sad.
He put his hand gently on Aiden's shoulder and squeezed in the manner he had seen in many movies. "Take all the time you need." He gave the kid a couple of pats on the shoulder and turned away, walking up to the path again to give Aiden some space.
He stood and watched Aiden, feelings confused, and considering whether he should perhaps go confront his own past.
