The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She knew it probably wasn't the most mentally healthy thing that she could have done, living as a dinosaur for so many months. The first time she'd done it she'd completely lost herself within it's mind and there was nothing to say that such a thing couldn't happen again in the future. Still, it was what she'd needed at the time and, ultimately, she'd come back into the human world of her own accord and in her own fashion. Maybe she'd retreat back to the solitude of the woods away from humans again, but probably not for a long time.
"I can't live alone in the woods all the time, can I? It's hard, sometimes, to find the right balance between the human and the not human. It just felt like the right time to come back. Like I could face the human world again. For a while, I felt like I could't." It felt easy to open up to Gemma. It also felt a little therapeutic. Not many had an understanding of what it was like to balance two disparate sides of self and, even if she wasn't a mutant, she just had a way of making a person feel comfortable and heard.

She sighed, considering the many problems mutants sometimes brought upon themselves. "I think its important that we learn to govern and police ourselves. I'm not talking about a seperate nation or anything like that, but, like a special mutant police force that specializes in mutant criminals and maybe even mutant victims. A force that works hand in hand with the human force, in harmony, each supporting one another for the greater good. Because sometimes mutants are dangerous and it takes another mutant to handle that threa." Yes, this was something she'd spent a lot of time thinking about.
Walking up to Jessica, it didn't take too long for her to speak to her co-worker and update her on the days events. No, not much had happened, no riots, attacks or unusual thefts in the afternoon hours so all in all, it had been a pretty decent day. Once shop business had been taken care of, she returned to Aura with a cheery smile. "All right, I think I'm all set."
Walking outside into the late afternoon air, she continued speaking as she walked. "Why thank you, how nice of you to say. No, I don't own the shop I just work there. It's basically a stepping stone to bigger and better things. What I really want to do is help my fellow mutants and I can only do so much working in the shop."

Of course Aura would smile at the thought of the destruction she and Aoi had caused to the Mansion in their fight. At the time, it had been a rather traumatic experience but, since then, she had gained full control of her boar crock and had learned from the experience. In the future, new forms were to be experimented with away from people until proper control was assumed. She managed a weak smile.
"A GED is a high school diploma. It means I've graduated and have a basic education." Knowing of her sister's past, it didn't surprise her that she didn't know what a GED was. Would it ever be of any use to her? Maybe not but it still felt like the right choice to pursue it.
"Maybe one day we could go hunting together in the forest?" she asked hopefully. Maybe Aura couldn't change into different forms, but she knew her sister to be a competent hunter. From what she knew of her past, she'd had to be. It could be a bonding experience.
She didn't really have an issue with humans as long as they left her alone but nodded anyway, following her sister into the hotel. A place like Sanctuary would surely be nice.

Amber wasn't usually much for celebrations. For one thing, most of them tended to happen during the day and that presented certain challenges due to her sensitive skin. For another, they tended to come with throngs of people which made her uncomfortable in the best of times. Still, this celebration was unique because it took place at night and a lunar eclipse sounded fascinating. Besides, wasn't she trying to reintegrate into human society? Didn't that mean she should try to get used to crowds?
Staying mostly on the outskirts of the crowd, she remained mostly covered by her usual array of veils, mostly hiding the fact that she was a mutant. If asked, tentatively, she might have even said that she was enjoying herself. For once, she wasn't stressing about being a walking corpse and no one seemed interested in harassing her due to her mere presence. There was so much interesting food and, as it turned out, even humans could be interesting to watch when they weren't being troublesome. She even spotted a few other more visible mutants and that was nice to see.
Then everything suddenly went from nice to almost apocalyptic. Winds picked up and objects began flying through the air. All around her, people were screaming and running in panic. She felt something hard strike her arm and she hissed in pain. Maybe changing shapes wasn't the smartest thing to do, given the public nature of the festival and the thousands of humans all in one area, but it was the best and only defense mechanism she had. Ducking behind a nearby bench, she came out a deninonychus. It's enhanced senses did not make the situation seem better.
Almost as soon as she emerged, now fully transformed, a mighty gust of wind picked her up and sent her careening forward. After what seemed like minutes but was probably only seconds in truth, she struck the ground hard. Tenderly, she got back to her feet. Sirens could be heard in the background. In retrospect, maybe being a dinosaur in a sea of panic wasn't the best idea she'd ever had, but there she was. Perhaps it was time to run somewhere and change into something a little less conspicuous.

"Oh, Ghost knows but I don't think anyone else does." She couldn't imagine a sweet woman like Ghost approving of Aura's antics or violence, but she'd never actually said anything about it to Amber of made any judgments. Maybe she didn't know about her sister's history, although that seemed doubtful given its rather public nature.
"Not hard, just time consuming. It takes about a month to get comfortable with a new form and in that time its instincts can take control. Myself and another girl, Aoi, kind of accidentally wrecked the Mansion kitchen when we fought as a polar bear and a boar crock because we couldn't control the instincts of our other shapes." At least she assumed that was the case for the other girl as well, especially considering how scared she seemed to be. It was not Amber's finest moment and it brought her feelings of shame. She should be better than that.
She nodded, looking forward to seeing where her sister now lived. "Well, I'm going back to school and getting my GED. I don't know how likely it is to be useful but I figured I should do it anyway." She shrugged her shoulders. In truth, she was pretty sure she'd never be suited for a real job; being a walking corpse and all. Still, education was never a bad thing. "I don't really know aside from that. Living in the woods, I didn't really think much beyond the day to day of eating and sleeping."

Having someone to be 'together' with sounded appealing even though she was pretty sure Aura didn't mean together in that kind of way. Ambrosia had had many partners before, if partner could be considered casual fling with little to no real emotional investment. Friends with benefits as also an arrangement she was intimately acquainted with, so to speak, and one that had it's perks. But 'together' as in a real and honest relationship kind of together was relatively foreign to her. Well, a girl could dream, right?
"Unfortunately, I've seen that fear for myself," she cringed at the memories. "That seems to be the whole reason for most of the violence. Humans hating mutants because their powers make them dangerous, mutants hating humans because their numbers make them dangerous. Its a sad world that these are the feelings that rule the day." Not everyone, of course, but enough. A very vocal and often violent minority on both sides.
"I couldn't agree more," she smiled at the other woman. Maybe taking her in wasn't such a bad idea after all. "It's not like I've been attacked often, only a few times really. Physically, at least. Most are too afraid to actually attack and just yell a lot. Way easier to deal with." She laughed.
At that moment the bells from the door went off and she went to take a look, spotting Jessica, her replacement for the evening. "Hey, do you mind if I speak to Jessica about shop matters for a few minutes, then we can leave and I can show you where I live?"

The instincts of the deinonychus wanted her to sink her teeth into the soft neck of her target, right into her pulsating vein. The human side of her knew, however, that killing people was generally not the best choice unless there was absolutely no choice. A feral shapeshifter might have had more difficulty in resisting such instincts, but she was no feral and it took only a small effort to crush them beneath the intellect of her mind. Instead of going for the neck and probably killing him instantly, teeth clamped down on her shoulder and she let out an ear piercing scream ans warm blood filled her mouth. The scars would be with her forever, but he would probably live.
Leaping off of the now prone body, she spun to face the rest of the battle. Hopefully the guy would be smart enough just to stay down and not get involved a second time because if there was a second time, she wasn't going to be nearly so forgiving of his life. A quick glance at her companion revealed him to a graceful and more than competent combatant and if they weren't presently fighting for their lives, she might have spent more time admiring his skills. As it was, it was going to take both of them to get out of this in one piece.
She watched as he simultaneously took on Tentacles and Sword Arm, eventually doing away with Sword arm and himself landing between herself and Tentacles. So, that was 2 gone and two to go. Eerily, the silent man continued to stand and watch, making no hostile moves nor any effort to aid his fallen companions.
Letting out another shrill shriek, Amber leaped around her ally, towards Tentacles. Tentacles shot out and attempted to wrap themselves around her, but her momentum was too much and her body collided with his. As tentacles began to wrap themselves around her torso and neck, she slashed with the sickle claws on her feet, slicing clean through several tentacles. He cried out and took an involuntary step back. Probably, she shouldn't actually bite those things, not knowing what they might be made of but he continued to retreat as she pursued, claws slashing menacingly towards him.

There was something about being responsible for the life of a person, where one mistake could be the difference between survival and death. She'd killed before, of course. Mostly animals but at least one human had died by her teeth and her claws. This was different. This was the preservation of life rather than the ending of it and the distinction was important. Could she ever be something that helped preserve life rather than destroy it? Perhaps this would answer that question.
The blade was heated, allowed to cool and then passed to her. With a deep and steadying breath, she began cutting. The self control that Hades showed in remaining still as the hot knife slowly cut the bullet out was nothing short of amazing and, perhaps, almost supernatural. With all her own experiences with the pain that exploded through her every time she changed shapes, Amber wasn't certain that she'd have been able to remain so still. Slowly, every so slowly, she made progress until finally the tiny blood stained bullet fell to the ground.
Her her part done, she watched as Hades took the heated blade to his own wound, cauterizing the flesh and stopping the bleeding. When he passed out, it was of no surprise and she took the time to apply a salve to his wounds and wrap them. If the wrapping wasn't as clean as his own might have been, it was competently done. Even if she was inexperienced, she was a quick study.
Once wrapped, it was her turn to get some sleep. First, she changed into a deinonychus, both because the feathers provided some insulation and because its senses would far better alert of of potential danger even if she was asleep. She curled up by the door and napped. Even if she hadn't been the one injured, the stresses of the situation were exhausting and rest was needed.
"Thank you, you may well have saved my life."
His movements woke her and it only took her a moment to resume her human form. Hopefully the pretense of a dinosaur hadn't been too startling. "I am happy you survived."
As Hades described some of the events that had brought him there and explained that he was dangerous to be around, she mostly remained silent and attentive to his words. What his secrets might be she didn't much care and didn't think to ask. If he felt the need to speak of them he would, otherwise she was content with his silence. There was a time, when she still lived among humans, that they might have mattered. That time, however, seemed like ages ago.
"I'm not afraid. You aren't going to make it on your own, at least not yet. Let me come with you. I can fight, I can hunt and I can kill, if need be. What would be the point of saving your life just to have you die out there, in the ice and snow? If you have the tools to function some kind of makeshift saddle, at least until we get closer to civilization, I can change shape and you and ride me. We'd move faster than walking on foot." Aura had ridden her as a styracosaurus before and she figured she had to be at least as fast as a horse in that form.

She decided that it might feel good to be a part of something larger than herself. Even if she didn't share her sister's zealotry, perhaps having some kind of greater purpose in her life was exactly what she needed to be more at peace with herself. "I would like to help."
Walking by her sister's side, her knowledge of the layout of the city was much more limited. Near Sanctuary and near the Mansion, she had a solid understanding but little outside those areas. Of course, in the forests surrounding the city, a different answer might have been offered. She'd spent more time in those forests during her absence than any other area.
Would it be wrong to spy on the people in the Mansion? Maybe, but she knew it was all being done for the benefit of mutants everywhere, even if some disagreed with the methods. "Ghost welcomed me with open arms twice. I like Ghost. You know my eyes and ears are yours." Even if she didn't really know many at the Mansion who were likely to give useful information.
"Only the boar crock," she answered with a smile. "I recently discovered there's a limit to how many shapes I can change into. If I want a new one, I have to sacrifice an old one. I like the shapes I have now." It was an unfortunate limitation, but not one that bothered her too much. 5 was still a number to provide plenty of versatility.

"Almost the whole time," she agreed. For the second time, she refrained from mentioning Hades and the fact that she had helped save his life. Some things were meant to remain private and even if she had felt the need to speak about it, it wasn't something she could do without talking to him first. Which was basically impossible given that she had no idea where he'd ended up once they parted ways.
"I was careful to do my best not to be seen, though." She knew enough to understand the trouble that could come about due to dinosaur sightings. It was one of the reasons she had traveled so long and so far, to avoid being found and hunted by human hunters. Enough rumours were bound to lead to a witch hunt, whether from cryptozoologists or, even worse, mutant hunters.
"Deinonychus' are small," she clarified. "Small for dinosaurs, anyway. That makes it much easier to remain hidden."

Amber stood in solidarity with Chase, nodding her agreement with every statement he made. Sure, he may have been the youngest among them but when he was right he was right. Floater was just a glorified title that basically meant 'I want to boss people around and not do anything productive myself.' Of course she knew that direction was important but so was actually pulling your weight. She glared at Allegra because seeing people squirm under her unnerving black eyes was fun. At least when they kind of deserved it.
A request was made to preheat the oven, which she did. Following basic instructions didn't seem so hard and there were recipes written down for them. It shouldn't be too different than any other kind of direction following, right? Maybe she should have spent more time in the Sanctuary kitchen learning to cook things rather than just eating the food.
"So, um, what does one do to prepare chicken, exactly?" She looked at the list of instructions for the chicken which included the chopping of vegetables. Well, she might not know the first thing about whatever 'preparing' chicken was, but she certainly knew the basics about chopping vegetables. Now that the oven was on, chopping was officially where she was going to begin and she grabbed said vegetables, a cutting board and a knife.
"Cheerleading camp?" She stopped her chopping a moment to look at the other girl and raise an incredulous eyebrow at her. "I'm glad you can be all self righteous about your quest to be normal, or whatever, but some of us don't have that option." Her own tone of voice rose as she confronted the other girl. "Some of us don't have a choice but to be a freak. You've got your nice blond face and your perfect complexion and you can pretend to be normal all you like. Me? I'm a walking, talking corpse and either I learn to embrace it or I just kill myself in truth because there's not a damn thing I can do about it!" She glared, only now realizing just how angry she was.
Rant over, she returned to her chopping. That felt damn good to get out. At least no one else seemed to have a problem with being a self-righteous princess. And then the teacher started mocking the blond too and she just couldn't help the little giggle she let out. Maybe she was going to like this class, after all.

As she waited, she spent her time people watching. It was something she'd always enjoyed doing, imagining the stories of where individuals had come from, what they were doing and the reasons why. Sometimes she listened to conversations as well. It wasn't really eaves dropping if they were speaking loud of enough to be casually overheard, right? So what if she could technically hear better than normal humans. Conveniently, she'd just kind of gloss over that fact.
Watching the busy, milling humans distracted her from her nerves. It was one thing to take the initiative and do what she could to help mutants on her own, it was quite another to do so in some sort of official capacity. What would that capacity be? Who or what was the organization behind the call anyway? What if they were actually some kind of evil shadow organization secretly looking to capture and imprison mutants in order to force horrible experiments upon them? Ok, so maybe that last question was a part of her over-active imagination. That sort of thing probably didn't actually happen in real life. She tried to push the invasive thought out of her mind.
Fortunately, Ambrosia wasn't left to wait long.
“Ambrosia? I’m Lexi, we talked over the phone yesterday?”
She got to her feet, a smile on her face. "Lexi, so nice to meet you. I'm Ambrosia. Oh, I guess you all ready knew that." She laughed, just a little nervous, and accepted the handshake. The woman didn't look like a super secret agent from an evil organization, so that was good. In fact, she looked rather benign and presentable. She pushed the irrational, invasive thoughts down to the bottom of her brain. They were just her imagination getting away from her. "So, did you want to talk here or did you have somewhere else in mind we could sit and have a chat?"

Ambrosia was enjoying the casual camaraderie that seemed to be developing between the two of them. On the surface, they might have seemed very different but looks could often be deceiving like that. Even if they came at it from different angles and different places, their philosophies seemed closely matched.
"Catnip? Really?" She laughed, imagining the large furred mutant being stoned on the 'nip. She also wondered if that was something faerie dragons would be vulnerable to. After all, they were kind of 1/2 cat and 1/2 dragon all rolled into a little ball of cuteness and colourful fire. That was one thing she shouldn't investigate. Probably. Maybe.
"Well, I suppose you are kind of a cat so that kind of makes sense, right? Besides, I'm sure its fun, right?" That was one indulgence she really knew nothing about, although she'd seen house cats that certainly seemed to enjoy it so it couldn't be all bad.

Well, apparently flying was out. That sucks. Not unexpected, but she had to try. It sounded like Cait possessed some skills that could help keep them safe, so that was good. It also sounded like those skills might hurt some people pretty badly, so that was less good. She didn't want anyone to get hurt, not really. She just wanted them to leave the two of them in peace. Was that too much to ask? Maybe she was too much of a bleeding heart.
When the command to run was given she listened, although probably not quite as fully as her new friend might have wanted. Capable or not, there was no way she was going to leave her all alone to face the entire mutant mob. Instead, she made a mad dash to the nearest tree and crouched down behind it, triggering the change of shapes into her faerie dragon form. Sure, it was small and weak but it was also far quicker and more agile than her human body. She was counting on that speed to keep her safe.
Unaware of what was going on in the fight behind her, she felt the tree she was hiding behind shudder just as she was completing the change. Taking to the air, she spotted a woman who's hands were glowing blue. The woman spotted her a moment later and she fired off a sphere of blue energy. When it collided with the tree, narrowly missing Ambrosia as she dodged, it revealed itself to be water. Reacting to the woman's momentary distraction as she prepared another water bomb, Ambrosia dived down and blew fire at her target, lighting her up like a green and purple candle. She collapsed to the ground, moaning and holding her stomach. Score!
"I'm coming," she called out, flying to stand (or hover) at her friend's side. Hopefully she wasn't too late.
