The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Jewel walked in about a minute later. She only stopped by at her own room to drop off her suitcase and walk to the window to admire the view. Everything else could wait; she knew they were not exactly here to enjoy the comfort of a first-class hotel room, neither to play tourists, but she couldn't stop being somewhat enthusiastic about the place anyway. She really hoped things would turn out well. Maybe then one day they could come back for a real field trip. Maybe. Walking down the corridor to Shawn's room, she was about to knock, but the door was not locked and it moved at her first touch. Smiling, Lily walked in and found Shawn reading the same file he'd been reading over and over again. She shook her head. Shawn was taking the role of team leader as seriously as humanly (mutantly) possible. He was just that kind of person. It made Lily feel safe and confident. Walking over to the bed, she sat beside him. "So, got it all memorized yet, boss?" she grinned at him.
”Lily or Jewel?” Lily blinked, then chuckled. "I respond to both. Jewel's a nickname, you see." She raised an eyebrow when Juka asked for a feather. So typical. The boy didn't look offended though; he expanded his wings and examined them. Jewel smiled in awe. She decided Carrick had the most amazing mutation she'd ever seen. "Juka! You can't just ask someone to pull a feather, silly." she shook her head at her friend in disbelief, and looked at the boy "Sorry. We haven't seen..." Another thought popped into her mind, interrupting the first one. ”Though if I change soon you might have a chance to receive a feather soon rather than later…” "Change? Change into what?" she asked curiously, then blushed. Damn, I sound like Juka.
If Lily thought she was prepared for seeing herself walk in, she couldn't have been more wrong. If she thought they finally got to the ultimate limits of weirdness... she was wrong again. One half of her mind wondered if it would be awkward to hug her own body, and after half a step forward she decided on yes it would. The other half was occupied by much more feminine matters. "What are you wearing?!" she asked the new owner of her physical self, eying the outfit - she recognized the items, except for the jacket, but she'd never worn them like this. Even worse, she had to note what he was not wearing, and that made her cheeks turn pink. The next minute she was chuckling at herself. Was she really worried about the clothes she was wearing when someone else was wearing her body?!... "... eh, never mind." “Have you two met before? Do either of you know any mutants who could have done this--a psychic with poor control, perhaps?” Lily shook her head. "I only know a few people in the Mansion... but I don't know about anyone who's capable of something like this. We could always ask Sam, I guess, or someone keeping the student records, but..." glancing at herself sitting in the opposite chair, she frowned and shook her head again. "Do you have any idea why? I mean... we don't know each other, and we clearly have nothing in common." she pointed out.
Jewel watched as the angel landed... and then suddenly there were two of them. Well, apart from the flying/floating/gliding thing, they did not have much in common. The second one was taller, more colorful, wrapped up in a bubble and wearing a dress. Lily rolled her eyes and almost laughed out. Juka. Leave it to him to hang out with angels at the Mansion. Raising herself on her elbows, she watched with admiration as the winged boy glided over and landed next to her. She'd never seen anything like this before, and she found it truly fascinating. Not to mention beautiful. She could imagine it would draw Juka's attention. “Are you alright? Nasty tumble you took there!” She smiled at the boy and sat up, rubbing the back on her head. "I'm fine, thank you. No big deal." The boy was... young. Lily watched hit trying to avoid staring as she glanced over the wings, the tail, and the cheerful eyes. He looked truly... unique. Cute. "Lily stood up, dusting herself off. "Um... nice to meet you, by the way." she offered her hand to the angel boy "My name is Lily. Are you new to the Mansion?"
Lily finished her coffee, and stood up to wash the cup before she turned back to them. "All right, guys, I think everything is under control here" she grinned "And I'm going back to bed." Walking past the table, she put her hand on Shawn's shoulder, and looked over to Saphirus. "Have fun with the tour, you two. If you need me, I'll be in my room... If you need me this afternoon, I mean. Don't you dare wake me up before then." she added with a chuckle, and walked to the kitchen door. There she turned back once again. "On, and Saphirus: welcome to the Mansion."
Lily chuckled and decided she liked Callie's brother. He sounded like a decent guy. Not to mention wise.
"Well, that, uh, guy called Streak said it was a good idea that I practise my powers in there, seeing as they could wreak so much havock, I suppose. And I really want to get control over this, because I don't want to hurt myself again. Burn wounds are horrible, and I've heard that cold burns are just as bad. Still, I hope there are going to be people there with me, because I don't know if I could handle being alone with myself and this... thing... I'm silly, I know."
She shook her head with a smile. "No, you are not silly. That's why you are here, to learn..." adding it as a second thought with a special smile in the corner of her lips, she said "... so you've met Shawn. Good. I should have known he's the one who sent you here..." she shook her head "... anyway. You don't have to go to the danger room alone. Most of us don't. Working in pairs and teams is the X... ummm, Mansion way of handling things." she winked at her. She glanced at the clock on the wall, and realized they have been talking for quite a long time now. "All right, let's get you settled in. Did you get the tour from Shawn?... well, scratch that, first things first, have you eaten anything lately?"
"Assuming I'm speaking with Ms. Lafayette, then yes, your body is fine for the moment," Lily let out a sigh of relief, and decided to ignore the 'for the moment' part... for the moment. "Yes, you are speaking with..." quick glance at Slate "... Ms. Lafayette, Zephyr." she answered with a smirk. She waited patiently while the person on the other end of the line got ready to leave... wherever he was. She hoped it was not that far away. "I'm on my way to the labs now, I should be there within an hour, if you have anything else to say now would be the time to say it." Another sigh of relief escaped her as she finally sat down. Her body was all right, and on her... his... way to the Labs. Everything's going to be fine now, everything is going to be sorted out. Her voice sounded determined. Lily didn't really have anything to say, except... "Be careful." Putting down the phone, she sighed as she looked at Slate. "And now we wait. He's on his way."
"And considering I knock everything I come within reach of over, and the fact that I regularily wear tie-dye and other clothes that look like they belong to an old hippie, I suspect that nothing will make me look like a lady. Still, I can feel ladylike wearing these." Lily grinned at that. "Well, I am glad then I could present you with your first pair of ladyness." she looked at the gloves on her hand, and they seemed to fit just perfectly "And if you wanna go all Princess Diaries, anytime, just let me know." After some thought, she decided to add another serious note to the whole conversation. "Just kidding, honey. Don't ever change for anything less than having fun." Lily couldn't help but laugh out at the concern in Callie's voice when she asked about the danger room. "Don't worry, nobody makes you go there if you don't want to. It's optional. And most of the settings are not dangerous at all. Actually, some crazy folks around here go there just for the fun of it." she grinned. Lately, she had been one of those crazy folks.
"Lucky I tend to fall for older guys the, eh?" Lily blinked at that comment - Callie looked too young to fall for anyone, well, scratch that, she was the exact age when girl fall for anyone, but still... whatever. She shrugged, and giggled at her comment on gloves and ladies. "Wow, so I'll be a lady now. And I've always wanted to be a real lady too. I guess there's an upside to my hands, after all." "There is an upside to everything, darling" she noted with the convinced tone of someone who knows "But I have to tell you, don't trust the whole lady thing on the gloves. I have been born, told and raised to be one - a lady, I mean - and although I have been pretty convinced it worked, recently it is starting to loose some polish." she smirked "I can teach you, if you'd like, but I'm warning you, most people would choose a Danger Room death session over Etiquette lessons any time."
Jewel was out jogging. She took up the habit after her X-men training started; not only because she knew it would help her gain some strength and keep up with her teammates, but also because she found she liked physical training. When she spent too much time indoors she usually got a strong feeling she needed to go outside, and... run. And so she did. It was a chilly day outside, but with beautiful sunshine; she stared out wearing a sweatshirt, but she soon took it off, wrapping it around her waist and was down to her black tank top and leggings. The Mansion grounds were mostly empty, with some kids scattered here and there; she liked the place, it was big enough for everyone. Whoever designed this place knew what a 'special' school needed most. The shadow of a... bird?... crossed her path, and she smiled to herself as she sped up, chasing it for a couple of seconds before it disappeared. Lily turned a corner, and slowed down a bit, climbing a slope... And then she saw an angel. Even though the school was full of people who would be called weird in the outside world, she was still not quite used to surprises like this. So she did what most people would do when they see a boy with wings: she missed a step, stumbled, and rolled downhill with a surprised yelp before coming to a halt, lying on her back. "Ouch." she muttered, lifting her head to see if the... angel?... was still there. He was. Lily frowned. People usually see things like this after they hit their head, not before. People in the outside world, that is.
Jewel smiled as she listened to Callie. "Wow, he sounds like a great guy." she chuckled "I don't have experience with siblings, but buys in general need a lot of time to grow up. But when they do..." she sighed in a cheerful way. Well, at least the girl had one person in her family who would not give up on her. "...Most of them never do" she grinned "Just wait till you meet some of them who live here. Mutant or not mutant, they are all the same... still. Having someone like that in your family makes you very fortunate." she added, more serious this time. Watching Callie put on the gloves however made her smile again. "My nanny used to tell me a real lady wears gloves for everything except her nightgown, and has a pair for every day and every occasion of the year." she mused "It's either a Southern thing, or she was just really obsessed with gloves. Anyway, that drawer" she pointed at the drawer "is full of them. Feel free to borrow any. I got bored with them after a while."
Lily listened to Callie's story silently. She frowned when she talked about her family. That kind of thing seemed to happen a lot to mutant kids. Sometimes parents could be really unreasonable and sometimes they would be just scared, and sometimes the teenagers didn't trust them enough to share the most important secret in their lives with them. She decided not to pry into the whole thing right now - instead, she answered her question. "I'm from New Orleans." she said with a dreamy expression on her face - she really did love her hometown "Um... I got into some trouble after I started using my powers, so I was sent here to learn and practice. As I told you, I don't have any siblings... it must be good to have a brother who takes care of you." she added with a smile. She hoped that would make Callie feel better about the whole thing.
Jewel nodded, listening to her seriously. "I'm not suggesting you melt people." she smirked "I'm not even suggesting you use your powers to fight. I'm just saying you'll find new ways of... using your powers for something good." she smiled. After a couple of seconds, she added "For example, I'm pretty sure the Chemistry teacher would go wild to have you show the kids how cool liquification can be." Chuckling she sat back on the bed. "There is one thing about this place, Callie: it's more family than school. You are not alone dealing with your powers... or anything else. People are here to help you. Wanna know what I've learned since I moved in?" leaning forwards, she smiled "There's a lot more to us than mutant abilities." Deciding it was about time to talk about more mundane things - and not wanting to make Callie uncomfortable with the whole discussion - she smiled. "So. England, right?"
Lily watched with intense curiosity - she loved this part of meeting new people around here. They all had something to surprise her. And now that she was going to share a room with this girl, she really was looking forward to seeing her powers work. The beer can made a metallic sound as it was dropped into the wastebasket once again. Lily grinned. "Wow. And you're saying that is not useful?... You haven't been around mutants a lot, have you." chuckling, she shook her head "No offense, Callie. I'm just saying... most people around here tend to be very creative, when it comes to powers." Sitting back on her bed, she smiled at the girl. "Take mine, for example. I would have never thought my powers can be any use in a fight. I make jewelry with it, you see. Then I started tr... um, experimenting with it, and people like Sam and Shawn - you'll meet them soon if you haven't already - helped me figure out a way to do a whole range of different things with precious metals. Mostly silver." she added with a smirk; picking up a piece of silver from the table, she used it to cover her fist. "And now I can use my gift to protect myself. Or others." She smiled at her new roommate reassuringly; it looked like a though occurred to her, because she walked over to her closet, and started rummaging around in it. "I am sure you'll find more than one way to use your powers." her voice was somewhat muffled, coming from the closet "The metal heated up when you turned it liquid. It's pure chemistry, right? The more you learn, the more ideas you'll get." Backing out from under a curtain of clothes, she turned back to Callie with a smile. "As for your hands... here. It's nothing special, just... you know, so you don't have to keep your hands in your pockets. Welcome gift. If you'd like to have them." She held out a pair of blue gloves for her.
