The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

“My apologies, your wardrobe was somewhat lacking in practical attire, oh come now no need to blush, I’m certain it’s nothing you haven’t seen before.” That comment only managed to make Lily blush even more - that must look ridiculous on a guy's face - but now embarrassment was mixed with a hint of annoyance. "That doesn't mean I appreciate everyone else seeing it." she muttered, before they all turned their attention to more important matters. “That sounds like a reasonable idea. I think I will leave you to it. Miss Lily, when you are done here, please be sure to give your banking details to one of the secretaries. As promised, you are entitled to triple Zephyr’s usual commission. Thank you for your help today. If you ever wish to join the Kabal, consider your audition already passed.” Lily blinked as she stared at Slate. "Who... what?" she muttered. Was this kid for real? He not only managed to drag her off on some crazy mission and get her into a fight, now he wanted to pay a fee for it too?... And recruit her to some organization that employed people like the one whose body she was in?... "Um... yeah, sure." She'll deal with that later. She didn't really need money, but she was kind of curious what the 'usual fee' was for a job like this. Later. "...perhaps if you are done gawking at Ms. Lafayette’s body though we might move on to more profitable endeavors? Possibly retracting our steps from the previous day?” Lily shook her head, and ran her fingers through the annoyingly short hair Zephyr had. Well, shorter than she was used to, anyway. "That doesn't make any sense, I haven't even left the Mansion yesterday. I..." she sighed "... I have no idea what's going on. I just woke up in your body. Does that make any sense?... No it doesn't, does it. All right... did you talk to anyone in the school before you came here? Did you meet the other students?" ... did you manage to destroy my reputation forever?...
Jewel walked at the end of the line, making sure no one fell behind. She also kept an eye out for the teenager, who kept pacing up and down along the line, essentially moving twice as much as the others did, like some wild animal in a cage. She could tell he didn't like the rules. Being a teenager, he probably didn't like rules in general. But he was mature enough to follow them anyway. For the time being. Letting her sixth sense work in its widest range, Lily kept monitoring the area; she didn't sense much above the ground, except for Shawn. That either meant it was clear and safe to move, or that they were unlucky enough to face opponents who were invisible to her senses. At the edge of the forest, Streak stopped, and so did the others, waiting for whatever would happen next. It was dark out here, with no artificial lights, just the full moon and the stars. Lily was surprised how much light they gave. It would get worse once they enter the forest. She could see the teenager's eyes glowing in the dark, and to her utter surprise, one of the toddlers was giving a faint blue glow as well. Uh-huh. Something else flickered in the distance, only for her to see. "We've got something" she said quietly, walking up to Shawn "It's pretty far, I can barely sense it. But it moves, so it's alive. Might belong to one of the watchtowers, or a patrol. I can't tell."
“…what if there’s a short circuit with his powers though?” Jewel bit her lip as she watched Shin. Oh dear God. If he can't turn off his powers the collar will keep shocking him... she shook her head to keep the panic locked away, she needed to think, and do something, and she felt really, really useless because there was really nothing she could do. ”We need to get him out of here…and keep him still. Hopefully he’ll stay out. We can take him to my barracks. Stay close and out in the open.” Lily nodded, and kept her eyes on the guards; one of the few things she could think of doing was distracting them from Tarin and the unconscious kid if needed. If they decided Shin was making too much trouble by getting tortured out in the open. She had no idea how she would do that, but she was sure adrenaline would boost her creativity. She really hoped she wouldn't find out. Following Tarin she kept looking around, falling into the routine she got used to on missions. The mentalist had to take care of Shin; she tagged along, alert, ready to step in if needed. She hadn't been to this part of the camps yet - she didn't wander much. Too many men around, staring at her. Lily's eyes narrowed. Right now, she was worried sick about a friend and teammate, she was exhausted, she was scared, she was getting really, really frustrated, not to mention pissed, so the look on her face turned into something that meant not-to-be-messed-with. Sam would be so proud if he saw that right now.
“Speaking of which… We’re here.” Lily got out of the car, flinging the backpack onto her shoulders, and took a minute to let her senses scan the area. "All clear, as far as I can tell" she nodded to Shawn as they walked to the back of the van. “Ok everybody out. We walk from here.” As the people started to climb out, she reached in to take the smaller toddler that so far had been sitting on the winged grandmother's lap. "I'll take her for now" she smiled; the kid was still mesmerized by the bracelet on her wrist, she kept flailing her arm around "I can't carry her for long, I need to be able to move, but I can help till you finish eating." Finally they all got out of the van; the teenager came last, hopping out and landing on his feet with grace. Jewel smiled at him. He was through with eating already. "Ready to go, aren't we" she chuckled, looking around "All right, Shawn, you take the lead, I'll go last. I can see you anyway." she smiled. "I could scout" the teenager offered; it was the first time he actually talked during the journey. Lily turned back to him. "I'm sure you'd do a great job" she nodded, very seriously "But we'll need to stick together. We might need to use your powers, later on. Stay alert." The toddler in Lily's arms decided her earrings would make a much better toy than the bracelet, and there was a moment of confusion as Lily peeled her hands off her ear. "All right, young lady, it's time to let the grown-ups do their job." she chuckled, looking at the teenager "Is she your sister?" The boy nodded with a slight frown reserved by teenagrs for their little siblings. Lily handed the baby to him. "Keep her safe." Doing a quick headcount and adjusting the straps of her backpack, she nodded to Shawn. "Let's go."
“I haven’t seen him in any of the groups I’ve visited yet, though… so as far as I know, ‘no’.” Good. Great. Probably. Maybe. Um. Lily sighed and fidgeted with the ends of her headscarf, she was really not sure if Shawn not being here was a good thing or not. Hopefully him not being here meant he was out there, hopefully alive and well. She shook her head to clear her thoughts. Damn. ”Spirits. Real ones. Luckily there aren’t too many here right now..." Lily blinked, and shook her head again. Tarin was sensing spirits. Right. She could tell how that would set the collars off. Also, she suddenly was really, really glad her abilities had nothing to do with dead people. "Ugh... jeezus... feels like something inside my head just broke..." Her eyes widened in alarm as Shin collapsed, and she moved in time with Tarin, but he was faster. Thank God. Tarin managed to catch Shin before he hit the ground. Something set off his collar too, but Lily didn't really understand what. She'd seen Shin's powers work, and it didn't look like this. ”Help, we need help!” Yes, like that would happen. The prisoners stared, some of them moved away, and the guards turned to look if there was someone making trouble they could beat him up for, but help? Not a chance. ”Such bullshit... Did you see his eyes? What if he’s got a concussion?” Lily knelt beside Shin, putting her hand on his forehead. It felt hot, maybe just because her hands were cold. Maybe not. The eyes. "I saw." she said, looking at Shin, more worried with every second "That's not a concussion. I don't know what it is." she shook her head "Shin?..."
”There’s a time to fight, and there’s a time to stay alive so that you can fight when your sacrifices might actually mean something.” Lily nodded; Shin managed to summarize in one sentence what she'd been clinging to in the past days. She didn't do much, and mostly kept to herself, but the people she was forced to work with, especially the young ones... they needed hope. And God knows Lily was one of the few who knew there actually might be some hope out there. Even though most of that hope was, well, in here. She listened intently to both stories; they were mostly the same as what Alex told her briefly earlier. A smile sneaked onto her lips when Tarin taked about Slate. What a weird kid. She hoped he was fine. As fine as one can get, in a camp. "Shin, do you know anything about Shawn?... Is he in here too?" She needed to know. She was trying to find out, but walking around the male prisoners was not a great idea. ”For the love of f***ing god….go AWAY." Lily jumped slightly as Tarin's collar zapped him, and put a sympathetic hand on his shoulder once the worst was over. ”These things are total bullshit. I can‘t control my powers like most people can…there‘s no off switch when they‘re around. One time, they’re not going to go away just because I ask…and God knows I can’t make them.” "I hear you." she nodded with a frown "Mine does the same either, just because I'v got a sixth sense. They don't care about things like that. Take it easy" she patted Tarin's back "It will pass..." curiosity took over as she looked around. "What are you sensing anyway?..."
"They got you, too..." Jewel nodded. Yes they did. ”Slate’s here too. I’m Tarin Brooks, wish we could have met under different circumstances.” Jewel blinked and her eyes went wide. "Slate's in the camps?... What on earth is he doing here?..." Okay, so Slate was a boss, she knew that from her not so pleasant past experiences in her Zephyr costume. But she also had first (or second?) hand experiences about Slate not being a fighter. She took Tarin's hand and squeezed it gently, she was too exhausted for any decent polite introductions. "Lily Lafayette. And I wish the same." ”I know you’ve got good intentions Shin…but I think friendliness might be a little misplaced here. Don’t forget…some of these people probably belong in a cage. Just not one like this.” "Nobody belongs to a place like this." she frowned miserably, glancing around "And it drives me crazy that I can't do anything about it." "You haven't seen Lee, have you? I haven't yet...so I'm hoping that means she's not here." Lily shook her head "I don't know her, but there's no Americans in the kitchens except for me and Alex." she sighed "I work there now. I don't know about the other places." She looked at Tarin - he looked bruised and beaten up - and Shin was not at his best either. "How did you get brought in?" she asked "What's happening outside?"
Lily's life had a brand new time schedule, and it consisted of two main parts: sleep time (not much) and kitchen time (much more). And then there were those tiny fragments of free time between finishing one meal and starting the other when the women and girls on duty were allowed to leave the kitchen and breathe. Quite literally. Spend five hours standing above cauldrons of brewing prison food and you'll learn to treasure outside air. Any kind of air, really. Jewel had a sensitive sense of smell, and it was one of the minor things that had been killing her ever since she was thrown into the camp. And she was still one of the very lucky ones. Judging from the whispers and murmurs of her fellow female prisoners. She stayed away from the men. She also stayed away from the guards, and much as she could, and made sure she could always be seen by one of the cameras, because had this totally unreasonable and naive idea that the guards won't do anything that bad to her while being watched. Yeah, like anyone would punish them for anything. She didn't make friends. Mainly because she only spoke English and French, and these were not the common languages in the camps. There were a few girls in kitchen who seemed to look at her as if she'd been their mother or older sister, and some of the women looked like they trusted her - but she sill felt more lonely than ever before. And she had a lot of friends somewhere else to worry about. Like, for example, Shin.
Lily spotted him wandering around among the other prisoners, and turned her steps towards him with a bitter taste in her mouth. So Shin was here too. Dammit. This X-team mission was not going all that well. She broke her own rule, mingling with the mutant crowd, and tried not to return all the looks she knew she was getting from her fellow prisoners, especially the (more or less) male ones. She wondered why. Lily hadn't seen a mirror in long days, and she was glad for it too. She reached up nervously to adjust the head scarf she was wearing (they all did, in the kitchen, to avoid adding hair to the already unidentifiable components of the food). Shin was standing there with a guy she didn't recongize; it looked like they knew each other, or at least knew each other better than the other mutants around. Walking up to them, Lily tried for a smile that came out reflecting how tired she was. "Hey."
“That’s good I didn’t even think of the whole bracelet thing. What would I do without you?” Lily flashed a proud grin at Shawn. "Honestly, I have no idea." She could already sense the bracelets in the back of the van; they were easy to spot, being made of Streak's unique kind of silver. She really hoped there won't be a situation where she'd have to track anyone by them, but it certainly didn't hurt to have them, just in case. She watched the patches of forest and farmlands passing by. With every minute, they were getting closer to the border; with every minute, they were in more danger as well. The people in the back were strangely silent; even though she did her best to make them feel safe, she knew there was nothing she could say to chase their fears away. Not only about crossing the border. Also about starting a new life out of scratch. Lily opened her backpack. "We are going to stop the car soon, and continue on foot. We have water and some food, if you are hungry, you'd better eat now, it would be good if we didn't make any stops during the crossing." She handed back some sandwiches; the tenager with the tail took two, he looked hungry, and the others accepted the food with smiles too. "We also have a first aid kit, let's hope we won't need it." Lily closed her backpack and put it down to her feet. "All right, that's about it" she sighed "Oh, one more thing." she turned back to them again "If there is anything about your powers that we should be aware of, now would be a good time to tell."
First ten people, families together. Lily kept an eye - and her sixth sense - out for anyone who would happen to see the people getting into the van. Fortunately, there was no one around. She started to see how luck was essential even to the best planned missions. Once everyone was inside and Shawn started to drive, Lily turned her head to talk to the people in the back. "Welcome aboard." she smiled at them "My name is Jewel, and I will be your hostess for this flight. We are going to take you all to safety. It is our job to protect you from anyone who tries to stop us." One of the toddlers started to clap and make cooing sounds; the others nodded and listened. Lily smiled at the children. They were the ones that needed the most protection, and also, unfortunately, their greatest risk. She made a mental note that if things take a turn to the worst, the kids will be the first to be taken to safetly. She couldn't help her motherly instincts from kicking in once again. "All right, here are the rules. We need to make this as quick as possible. Once we leave the car, you will need to stick together and move as fast as you can, and very quietly. If anything bad happens, run and hide, and leave the fighting to us. This is very important." she looked at them over her shoulder "Don't try to fight. We were trained for missions like this, and we can take care of whoever tries to stop us, but only if you don't get in the way. Anything happens, you all go, hide, and only come out when we come for you." Glancing at Streak, she thought for a while, then turned back to them. "I will give you all something that helps me to find you. As long as you are wearing these, I will be able to see you no matter where you are." she explained, handing them a series of thin silver bracelets she conjured up from Streak's silver earlier "Don't take them off." The toddlers made new sounds at the shiny objects, and the adults murmured in agreement. Lily smiled and reached back to adjust the brcaelets safely to their wrists. "Everything is going to work out just fine. Don't worry." Turning around to look at the road, she sighed. Now that the people were in the back suddenly the whole mission seemed very real. Here goes nothing. "Streak? Do you have anything to add?..."
Lily grinned at her new roommate. "As far as I know, everything here is safe to eat. There are too many kids in this school to just keep a science project in the common fridge. I'd say those are safely locked away in some lab downstairs. Or at least I hope so." she added with a grin that matched hers. Starting to prepare breakfast for herself and Callie from the chosen ingredients, she continued. "Above all this place is still a school. A bunch of kids with weird abilities, and grown-ups who are even weirder sometimes, but it's still a place to learn. We have regular classes and all that. In case one can't make a living off her own powers without needing any other kind of education." she smirked. She, for example, was one of those lucky few. Being able to sense, pull and form precious materials was her ticket to a nice, comfortable life. If she chose to live one. "And even if one can, learning things can never hurt." she added as an afterthought. Callie was still very young. She needed to know even mutant studants can't get away with everything just because they had powers.
(OOC: No we can stay here, it's fine. Sorry for the delay, I had trouble keeping up with all my posts )
Lily stood in the background, letting Sam deal with the hunters as he pleased, he was the leadr in this mission and also he was much better at intimidation that she was. And that seemed to be the key issue in this negotiation. ”We make the rules, we bend nature to our will and her power, let just say without as much a thought she could choke half of you to death,” Lily blinked. Did he just threated the fearless mutant hunters with... her?... She fought really hard not to grin. This should be the other way around. The fragile lady telling them she would leave them at the hands of her strong and frightening companion if they don't talk... Well, she could choke them to death. Some of them anyway. Not like she wanted to do anything like that, ever. But as bluffs go, Sam was doing a good job, and none of the hunters called it. Lily glared back at them in a menacing manner, and she could see the confusion in their faces. Let them wonder. ”I need you to do something for me, if there is any metals in the ground nearby that you could sense you think you can bring them here?” Lily nodded and with a sirk she whispered back to him. "I can try. And if it doesn't work, I can fake it." She probably had silver and gemstones on her person that was worth more than a year's payment for these people. Walking away a couple of feet, she let her senses pick up the signs she'd sensed earlier again. They were on rock here, with a thin layer of soil covering the bones of the earth; and through the bones trickled the tiny veins that had been driving people crazy for centuries. Kneeling down on one knee she dipped her hand in the snow and touched the ground. She'd never tried this before; true, she'd never been to a country this rich in precious metals either. Takind a deep breath, she focused her powers on the metal in the ground and pulled. For log minutes, nothing happened. At least nothing Sam or the hunters could have seen. And then then, with a long sigh, Jewel stood and walked back to Sam, holding out her palm for him to see. There was pale gold wrapped around her fingers and wrist. Her eyes glittered with triumph. "There you go." she told him quietly "It's probably worth a lot more than they deserve. I can mix it with silver if you'd like."
