The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The younger Orderling nodded, at the same time feeling a little embarrassed for herself. Why did she have to feel so sorry for herself over killing somebody? Why was it something she was so hard-pressed to feel bad about? Syn didn't feel sorry about it at all; she even seemed proud. This, Kaitlyn decided, is how a healthy and right-minded person should cope with having to kill people. This, she determined, was something she needed to strive for.
Curiosity struck again. "Why'd they want to torture you?"
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
“From what I gathered they had been contracted to try to break me. They were looking for a way to weaken our beloved family here. Trying to gain leverage over us is what I had heard.” All of this was true as Syn had been told numerous times by Morpheus. She had also heard many of their conversations amongst one another and during phone conversations with their employer. Zelek.

Most of the time, Kaitlyn managed to ignore the fact that most of what she did as an Order member was extremely dangerous, and that nobody her age should be doing it. This was not one of those times. She was the adopted daughter of the Order's leader. If these people wanted "leverage," as Syn put it, over the Order, that made Kaitlyn a big, red-headed target, and she wouldn't be able to do much against an adapted abductor.
She hoped that Syn had already taught them their lesson. But if not... did she still have that stun gun Lenna gave her? Why did she stop carrying that thing with her? Because that would be a good thing to keep around from now on.
"Do..." she squeaked, then stopped herself. That simply wasn't acceptable. An Order member did not squeak questions like that. Kaitlyn may have been a little girl, but she didn't want to act like one. She cleared her throat, then continued. "Do you know who contracted them?"
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
The squeak certainly caught Syn off guard as she gave a slightly surprised look followed quickly with a smile. It served as a reminder that even though Kaitlyn was a member of The Order she was also still a little girl. For a moment Syn thought perhaps her story had been unsettling, but then again she wasn’t sugar coating things. Well, maybe a little.
“All I know is his name was Zelek. I have no idea what he looks like or where he is. My three captors never gave too much detail as they themselves didn’t seem to know much about him.” Looking Kaitlyn in her eyes Syn again gave a gentle hand to the girls shoulder. “I’m pretty sure you don’t have to worry my dear. Those three aren’t coming back and they never got to call for help. Besides, you must be very capable and brave for doing what you’ve been doing. No average girl could do that so you must be extra special.”

Although Syn was just trying to be friendly, Kaitlyn resented the idea that she needed any kind of reassuring. "I'm not worried," she asserted. A tinge of uncertainty in the girl's voice hinted that she was trying to prove this to herself just as much as she was trying to prove it to Syn. She shrugged the shoulder where Syn's hand had come to rest and averted her gaze from the older Orderling's, as if doing so would hide how worried she actually was.

“Of course you’re not. You are a very capable girl and you shouldn’t be afraid of anyone or anything.” She knew Kaitlyn was trying to act tough, but Syn also knew the girl truly was capable of handling herself in a tough situation should such an event arise. Letting her hand fall back from Kaitlyn’s shoulder Syn couldn’t help but smile again. “So defiant. I like that.”

Syn's words filled Kaitlyn with confidence. She already knew that she was a tough kid, but it helped to hear it from somebody else. "Yeah. They should be afraid of me. I'm basically a walking bomb."
That 'so defiant' comment felt kind of patronizing. The younger Orderling let it slide.
"So... uh..." Kaitlyn's curiosity battled against her desire not to be perceived as a stupid little kid. Her curiosity won. "What's an inoculation, anyway?" Syn had mentioned that word earlier, and it was really starting to bug her that she didn't know what it meant.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Hearing Kaitlyn confirm what Syn had read in her file (with Lisa’s help) gave plenty of ideas of what the girl could do besides being a spy. Perhaps leave her as a spy and if things get too hot for her to handle. Ka-boom. Syn nodded in agreement with the girl as she proclaimed her inner strength.
“It’s just a big word for something like getting a flu shot.” It was actually cute that the girl asked something a normal girl would. It showed that even though this walking mutant bomb had fortitude she also still had her childish curiosities.

Ah. It was like a vaccination, then. Vaccinations prevented people from getting sick. "Then does that mean that you can make people get sick? How'd you convince that guy to give his friends knock-out drugs?"
Kaitlyn asked these two questions in rapid succession. Curiosity was getting the better of her. Now that she was thinking about it, Syn must have been really good at lying if she could talk a guy into sedating his friends, right before killing all of them. The girl was hoping for a story, and she'd forgotten that telling this story might be extremely uncomfortable for Syn.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Giggling softly and shaking her head Syn looked at the girl. “No, I can’t make people sick. What happened was the one with the medical training was named Cross. He had told me upon my arrival that he didn’t like what was being done to me, but was only doing it because he was forced to. He didn’t really like the other two either. Their names were Morpheus and Knuckles. Morpheus could get into your dreams and Knuckles was a very big and strong Adapted. Obviously they weren’t always in the room at the same time. Over a period of time of talk and plotting with Cross we worked out a plan where he claimed to the other two that I was developing a new ability and they needed to be injected with something to counter it. Thankfully Knuckles wasn’t the brightest of the bunch, but Cross gave them both a very heavy dose of tranquilizer to knock them out.”

The younger Orderling paid rapt attention to Syn's story. She was visibly impressed. Taking advantage of that 'Cross' guy was really clever.
When storytime was over, Kaitlyn was itching to ask more questions, but she was a bit deterred by the giggling and head-shaking that accompanied her last one. Her desire to know more and her desire not to look silly were at a stalemate. After a few moments of thoughtful silence, she decided to ask one more question, then call it quits. "What kind of mutation do you have?"
There was a visible struggle within the girl as Syn watched her reactions. She didn’t want to pressure Kaitlyn, but instead let the girl decide on her own what to do or say. Then came the question Syn often received from new acquaintances.
“My ability is a secret, but I can tell you that that when I chose to use it other people listen.”

Kaitlyn blinked.
So, it was a 'secret.' Yeah... she was just gonna go ahead and look up Syn's file later. Or ask Lori about it. Or twist Lisa's arm into telling. Or something. She had her ways. A few other questions already began to bother her, though: why keep it a secret? What did she mean by her power 'making people listen?'
Whatever the case, the little spy was confident that she would have some answers by this time tomorrow, at the latest.
"...Okay," she smirked. She stood up and gathered her things. "It was nice meeting you, Syn, but I should go unpack."
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Standing back up and looking down at Kaitlyn the former Order leader smiled. She knew her answer wouldn’t suffice for the curiosity of the little spy. Syn also knew what the girl would find if she decided to go looking for herself. Thus her answer would have to do for now. “It was a pleasure meeting you as well my dear Kaitlyn.”
As Syn walked off into the bowels of Sanctuary she called back over her shoulder. “Say hi to your mom for me.”
