The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The more Miles spoke of his ability, the more fascinating it sounded. There were so few that understood what it was truly like to be the predator or what it was like to have senses beyond that of a mere human. If he could see through the eyes of his dogs, however, and smell through their noses, he might just have an idea after all. Perhaps it meant something.
"You have a gift," Amber spoke calmly at Miles and smiled down towards his dogs. "Do not let anyone convince you otherwise." To use them as spies, as Syn suggested, was not the thing that drew Amber's mind but, oh, to use them in the hunt, now that would be something enticing. Her sister, still, she needed to hunt with but perhaps they could find others to join in the hunt as well. Though perhaps she would have to teach Miles to be more certain of his gifts first, as he almost seemed ashamed and certainly seemed fearful.
"I can show you, if you like." Amber spoke to both Miles and Syn, for different reasons. Syn, because she was her aunt and as such it was right she see, first hand, what Amber could do and Miles because, in a strange way, they might almost be considered kin. He animated and controlled the dead, she became something dead and both of them had the potential to experience things no human could ever dream of.
Had Miles still been the same wary sort he was before he entered the building, had he not seen the premises or shown the advantages of staying in Sanctuary, had he not been given the privilege of meeting others like him or sharing a secret and not getting scorn in return, then maybe he would have drawn suspicion from Syn's vague, yet truthful reply. He had, however, already fallen in a trustful mood, the sort you find in youth, inexperience and the desperate need to belong somewhere that teenagers usually have. He found Syn's brief description of her mutation quite funny in fact.
"Hahaha! That you are!" he said, laughing and acknowledging her sexy looks and emerald gaze might have something to do with that. "It's probably your eyes at work" he added, beaming.
Amber told him how Miles mutation was a gift and in that, she seemed to have Syn's similar perspective, which was completely different from his own. It wasn't a gift, it was a curse. Controlling dogs was cool in his book and all, but raising the dead was not. The dead deserved their rest and eternal peace, not to have their bodies used as puppets to his every whim. Still, he was a responsible fellow and couldn't find it in himself to dispatch one of his own creations. He just assumed his responsibility and lived with the consequences of his actions. In his mind, the dogs were constant reminders of things he should NEVER do again.
"I sure wish I could see it your way" he said regretfully, without entering into any details.
Miles grew hesitant at Ambers offer. She was willing to turn right here, right now, for them to see and the young mutant's mind raced to figure out the consequences. Was he absolutely sure it was his anguish and sorrow that triggered his dark mode? It had happened twice and both times there had been a dead creature within his grasp, what would happen when it was an undead dinosaur? Nothing? Something? Maybe he'd enter his dark mode halfways? Like... polka dotted mode.
"All right" he said, deciding to risk it and maybe learn something about himself in the process. He did step back a little to give the girl some space. "I'm cool with this if you're cool with it too, Syn".
Hearing the words come from Amber made Syn feel proud. Now there were two of them reassuring Miles that he shouldn’t be afraid of his talents. “You see Miles. People like us shouldn’t be scared of what we can do. We should be proud and help others to understand themselves as I’m trying to do with you. We can help you and all of us here look after one another like a family. So you’ll never be alone again as you now have all of us with you.”
The boy’s compliment made Syn smile again. “Well aren’t you a sweet boy. Perhaps you’re right.” The dark princess leaned forward a bit towards Miles and in a somewhat playful manner batted her eyes. “They’re irresistible aren’t they?” Laughing as she straightened back up Syn turned her attention back to Amber. “That would be wonderful to see my dear. I only ask that you keep your size to something that will easily fit within these walls please.”
