The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Agnes blushed a little at the compliment. She still was not sure how much she wanted to talk about her powers in Rebecca’s parent’s house. Though it was silly for her to be shy about it since neither of them were around currently, she knew that walls indeed have ears. The last thing she needed was to talk so freely about her powers that she freaked out Rebecca’s parents. After all, people were not always keen to have insects in their house. She could only imagine what they thought about a young woman who could attract them.
Gawd, she actually began to wonder just how much Rebecca had told them about her powers…
>> "Rebecca, could ye help me set up th' table?"
>> "Ah'll be right there! Ah'll be right back, hun."
Before Agnes could say another, suddenly her girlfriend, the one person she was counting on to shield her a little from the parental units, was on her way out. A cat was deposited onto her lap and Agnes found herself standing at the older gentleman, Mr. Grey. The man had apparently deposited their luggage upstairs but now Agnes was curious as to whether or not she was going to survive this meeting. Rebecca had got up to leave and she was now alone.
And, of course, her cheek was burning where Rebecca had just placed her lips. She…just HAD to do that in front of her dad? Inwardly, she groaned.
She offered the older man a smile and returned to petting the cat between the ears…
>> "As our guest, I want you to relax and enjoy Scotland."
Agnes smiled and nodded in response. “Thank you, sir. Scotland is beautiful and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it. Thank you, you know, for allowing me to visit and stay in your wonderful home.”
God she hoped that she would be able to survive this…
>> "Do you drink, Agnes? After all, you are plenty old enough here…Here. My treat."
Agnes was flustered. She had never drank before! Well, that was not entirely true. She remembered one horrid night when Lydia had kidnapped her and forced her to go out and “party” instead of do her studying like she wanted. After that, all Agnes can remember was a fuzziness in her brain and poking her friend in the chest. Needless to say, it was not the most pleasant of circumstances. Since then she never even considered alcohol passing her lips.
But what was she to do? Before she could say anything a glass was poured and offered to her. She now knew that she was in a bind. If she refused, that could not appear more rude. And, after all, she was trying to best to at least be on these people’s good side.
And her drinking age was legal here.
“T-Thank you, sir,” she responded.
With a meek nod she stared at that liquid with a bit of fear but slowly reached out and took the glass in her hand. Her wings wanted to fluttered but she managed to control herself as she brought the glass close. The scent of the scotch made it pretty easy to tell what it was. Gratefully she nodded her thanks as she lifted the glass up and noticed that he was watching her.
Yup…there was no getting out of this now…
Eyes closed, Agnes held her breath as she raised the glass and took a sip. Immediately she felt the small amount of burning liquid course down her throat. It took everything she had to not gag and spit it out. Instead, she swallowed the tiny bit that she had tipped between her lips and twitched and coughed. Wow…that really burned. But at least she didn’t spill the glass or its contents.

Garrison watched dedicatedly as Agnes looked down at her drink, contemplating her options. Eventually, the girl swallowed her courage and shortly after, a gulp of the aged scotch. Agnes coughed and grimaced, as was expected of a new scotch drinker. Garrison began to chuckle loudly. "Oh my, I really expect you to drink it!"
Garrison covered his mouth, but continued laughing, fully aware of how terrified Agnes must have been meeting him. It was important for him to scare his daughter's significant other, female or male, and it was clear that Agnes was willing to endure a strong glare and a stronger liquor if it meant impressing Rebecca's parents.
Rebecca heard her father's laughter and poked her head out of the kitchen door, wiping her forehead with a washcloth. "Daddy, what are ye laughing at?" She asked suspiciously, well aware now that she left her girlfriend in the living room with an old lion.
"Oh nothing, Strawberry," he assured his daughter now that his laughter was subsiding. "Agnes and I were just having a little talk over some scotch."
Rebecca cocked her eyebrow, now more suspicious than ever. "Agnes drinks scotch?"
From behind the daughter, the mother could be heard calling out, "Food's ready! Get in here!"
Garrison stood from the chair slowly, not wanting to keep his wife waiting. He offered a hand to Agnes to help her up from the low couch. "Hope you like steak and mash more than scotch," he joked quietly, with Rebecca standing in the doorway, now much more careful not to let Agnes out of her site.
Agnes coughed and rubbed her throat. It burned so much but she tried not to let on exactly how much it actually hurt. The young woman had never had much experience with alcohol and the last time she did it was sweeter than this fiery devil called “scotch”. She suddenly came to the conclusion that she was not going to be much of an alcohol drinker—once she went home. It was obvious that she could not be rude in this country, especially when she was trying to impress the parents of her girlfriend.
She only smiled a little meekly in response and took another lingering look at the scotch while the man laughed heartily. She really didn’t want to be mocked but, at the same time, she could not blame the man for testing her.
>> "Daddy, what are ye laughing at?"
>> "Oh nothing, Strawberry…Agnes and I were just having a little talk over some scotch."
>> "Agnes drinks scotch?"
“Like a fish,” Agnes responded, just a tad hoarsely.
The scotch still burned but the girl had attempted to take at least one more sip. Gawd, it burned. Gently she set it down on the coffee table, on a coaster if she found one, and waited patiently for either Rebecca to return, for her father to start grilling her, or for the end of creation! She was fine with any of those options so long as there was no longer this maddening silence!
>> "Food's ready! Get in here!"
>> "Hope you like steak and mash more than scotch,"
Agnes nodded with a smile as she took the man’s hand. She still was not exactly sure what this man was up to. It was obvious that he was testing her, giving her a hard time for being the girlfriend for his only daughter, but at the same time, he still acted like a gentleman. She hoped that this was a glimpse of the true man and not some illusion he was upholding just so that he could gain her trust and throw her into yet another test. These people were Rebecca’s family, after all, and Agnes wanted nothing but to enjoy their company.
Once her hand gripped the man’s, she stood up gently and kept her wings folded down against her back. She gave him a nod of thanks.
“Thank you,” she said appreciatively. “And I’m sure it’ll be lovely. It smells great.”

Rebecca's father entered the kitchen, walking by a wary Rebecca. The girl had never brought home a boyfriend or a girlfriend, so she could not imagine what type of gauntlet he would put Agnes through.
Before Agnes could get by Rebecca and into the kitchen, Rebecca wrapped an arm around her thin waist. She pulled the girl in for a hug and whispered, "Ah'm sorry Ah left ye alone, it wornt happen again. He didnae try showing ye th' sword or anything like that, right?" If they were lucky, he would just tease her. Past his hardened exterior, Garrison was a humorous man who would definitely convince a poor girl to drink firewater unprepared.
Rebecca led Agnes by the hand to a table prepared with plates of steak and mashed potatoes. There was a notable scent of baking apples in the air. The pie for dessert would surely prove to Agnes where Rebecca got her baking talents from.
Mackenzie folded her hands and asked, "Agnes, woulds ye like tae say grace?"
Rebecca realized at that moment that she completely forgot to mention to her parents that Agnes was an atheist. Trying to think quickly on her feet, she replied, "Um, Ah'll say grace. Agnes isnae really religious." Her mother shrugged, not exactly pleased with the news, but Agnes was still a nice enough girl.
Rebecca prayed grace, and the meal began. The steak and potatoes tasted like home, and she happily consumed her food quickly. Her father discussed football with her, and her mother tried striking up a conversation on music with Agnes.
There was a small pause in both conversations, which ended up being Garrison's opening. "So Agnes... how did you and Rebecca meet?" It was clear from his tone that he meant both their meeting and their "meeting."
Agnes had nodded and followed to the kitchen where dinner was to be. She had to admit that it absolutely smelled delectable from where she was. Everything from a few minutes ago washed away and Agnes began to feel just a tad better. Maybe a good meal would definitely be enough to clear her head of any and all of the fears that she had concerning this meeting. It would allow her to think straight, even just for a moment so that she could collect her thoughts.
She smiled as she was about to pass by Rebecca but was caught when that pale arm wrapped around her waist to keep her from walking into sight of those parents at the table. Arms wrapped around her and she was pulled into a tight hug, at which she felt the warm breath of her lover against her ear.
>> "Ah'm sorry Ah left ye alone, it wornt happen again. He didnae try showing ye th' sword or anything like that, right?"
Agnes shook her head but suddenly stopped as she tilted her gaze to meet her girlfriend’s.
“Sword?”
She blinked but was silently led into the dining room.
Instantly she was struck by the image of Rebecca’s mother and father at the table, sitting before a home cooked meal that looked as if it rivaled anything that appeared in any TV show she had seen. This looked like the true symbol of what home was supposed to look at feel like. With the parents at the heads of the table, Agnes claimed a seat that was on the side, across from wherever Rebecca sat. At least the two could look at each other for a bit.
But as she slid into her seat, looking down the piping hot, beautiful meal in front of her, she was struck by Mrs. Grey asking her something that she thought she would never be asked…
>> "Agnes, woulds ye like tae say grace?"
>> "Um, Ah'll say grace. Agnes isnae really religious."
Agnes blinked but breathed a subtle sigh of relief. She would make sure to thank Rebecca for that little save properly later. It was hard for her to admit that she was an atheist but, she was. Religion only brought her problems so why should she waste her time worshipping in something that she either feared or didn’t believe in. No, she was mad with God and refused to speak of him after everything she was put through.
But…that was not exactly the best conversation to bring up to your girlfriend’s parents when you were meeting them for the first time, especially since they were practicing believers.
The grace taken care of, Agnes sighed as she cut into the food. From the first bite, she was immediately enraptured in this sense of home and family. Conversation happened throughout the room, Rebecca and her father talking about sports and everything under the sun. It was just so sweet. But, best of all, Mrs. Grey attempted to start up conversation with her too! They chatted, mainly about music, and the woman seemed impressed that Agnes was going to be going to Julliard. There was good common ground there and Agnes soon found herself completely taken in by the woman’s words. She was nice…Agnes liked her…
>> "So Agnes... how did you and Rebecca meet?"
She blinked as she turned to meet the gaze of Rebecca’s father. Well, that didn’t take long, did it? She gathered her thoughts as he smiled a little sheepishly.
“Oh, um…at school. Um…not only am I student, but I work there to earn my way,” she said with a smile. “I’m the campus gardener and Rebecca stumbled across me while I was work. And, well, we were just friends every since.” she said as she watched Rebecca, beaming a little whenever they caught each other’s eye. The redhead could still make her blush whenever she thought about their first meeting. She shrugged, though, deciding against brining up Jasmine. “But…we grew into more,” she said as she grinned again to Rebecca. She hoped her girlfriend was going to jump in now; she was not going to flail in the waters of Parental Gaze alone!

Rebecca wanted to jump in and answer her father's question, but he intentionally directed it at Agnes, and as much as Rebecca's instincts were going into "protect Agnes" mode, she kept quiet. She had faith that Agnes could handle herself. That did not stop her from tightening her grip on her fork nervously.
>> “Oh, um…at school. Um…not only am I student, but I work there to earn my way,” she said with a smile. “I’m the campus gardener and Rebecca stumbled across me while I was work. And, well, we were just friends every since. But…we grew into more.”
Fantastic! Dad took a fireball of a shot, but Agnes comes up with the save! Her girlfriend handled herself very well, and her father was smiling in approval, so it was safe for Rebecca to jump in now.
Agnes decided against bringing up Jasmine, and Rebecca silently agreed that there was no need to tell her parents how Rebecca threw herself in the middle of a happy relationship. "Agnes was one of my first friends in the states. Ah didnae even realized Ah liked her til after my birthday," she joked, reflecting on her obliviousness.
Mackenzie smiled warmly at the relationship summary of her daughter. "Well Agnes, yoo're a sweit lass, sae Ah'm happy mah daughter foond someain loch ye."
Garrison nodded, making eye contact with the girl he had spent the night teasing. "Yeah, it is nice to finally meet you." He tilted his glass in her direction. "Just treat Rebecca well, and we won't have any problems." he half-teased, half-threatened. Jokingly, Rebecca was sure.
It was a huge relief to hear her parents giving Agnes what amounted to an official seal of approval. With that out of the way, the dinner continued as it had before until the food was finally gone and Mackenzie stood up to fetch the pie.
Garrison was working on his second glass of scotch, sinking into a sense of relaxation for the evening. "So do you girls have anything planned for tonight?
Rebecca nodded, knowing exactly how she wanted to end the night with Agnes. "Yes daddy. Ah was thinking about taking Agnes tae th' pond."
Her father shook his head, grinning. "You little stargazer. Just don't stay out too late," he added with a wink.
Rebecca nodded in agreement. She looked back to Agnes and smiled, nudging Agnes's foot with her own under the table. You sae totally passed.
Agnes had breathed a sigh of relief after the dinner and dessert had concluded. After the question that Rebecca’s father had asked, the air in the room, between herself and the rest of Rebecca’s family, seemed to lighten a bit. Agnes actually began to feel far more relaxed as she realized that she was not about to be attacked or branded as some pervert or a thief or anything! Rebecca’s family they…they actually seemed to be accepting her. That was her greatest fear, that they would turn rage or anger upon her for spoiling their “little girl” but it was a far cry from that.
As the meal went on, Agnes began to feel almost what it was like to be a daughter in a family. And she had to admit…it was a good feeling.
The meal had gone on without a hitch, dessert was absolutely delectable, and soon Agnes found herself absolutely stuffed. There was absolutely no way that anyone could eat like that every day and still maintain any kind of figure. And yet it seemed as if everyone gathered did. They were indeed impressive people.
Before long, their meal had finished and the two were left alone to continue with their nightly plans. Rebecca had promised that she was going to take her for a stroll by a pond that was important to her, so Agnes readily agreed. Though she did enjoy the company of family, a little alone time was definitely needed.
The cool night air brushed against their features and Agnes smiled happily. The greenery they were surrounded by, the dark sky, the twinkle of stars, all of it was so absolutely perfect that she doubted there was any way to make any of it better. Then…she felt a hand slide into hers, fingers coiling around her own, and Agnes knew that she had been wrong. This definitely is what made it perfect.
She turned and smiled as she caught Rebecca’s mis-colored eyes. It was a shy smile, a sweet one, and soon Agnes found herself turning her eyes down to the interesting grass. Her hand squeezed Rebecca’s as she whispered.
“T-Thank you,” she said, breaking through the silence. “Tonight…was just…absolutely beautiful…”
Strong words from a woman with a past like hers. Strong words indeed…

The dinner went better than Rebecca could have hoped; heck, the whole night was going swimmingly. Dinner with her parents ended up feeling so… natural. After everyone got used to the situation, it was like Agnes belonged at the table with the Greys. Nothing could have made Rebecca happier, as she intended to have Agnes at the Grey table for some time to come.
As though the universe was rewarding the young female couple for all the complications and struggles they had to go through in the past year, the walk down the Scottish paths was just as perfect as dinner had been. The stars, the climate, and the hand squeezing her own tightly set the scene for an ideal end to their evening.
Rebecca could have agreed with Agnes, but what was the point of just reaffirming the obvious. Instead, with the pond just in sight, Rebecca pulled Agnes in close for a long kiss. ”You’re absolutely beautiful.” There was one more kiss. ”Ah cannae believe how much Ah love you.”
Agnes was enraptured by the scenery. The smell of the air, the sight of the greenery, the warmth of the company, it was safe to say that Agnes was completely lost to this place. She loved it so dearly that there was a part of her that hoped that they could never leave. What was left for them in the states anyways? Oh yeah, jobs, school, and responsibilities; all those silly things. Ah well, eventually they would have to leave but it was not right now! She would enjoy her time here every second that she could!
She squeezed Rebecca’s hair as he wide, blue eyes looked up to the starry sky. It was just then, though, that she felt the motions of being pulled. Not by gravity or some other powerful force, but by the lithe and gentle arms of her girlfriend. Rebecca pulled Agnes close and suddenly she felt her lips on hers.
For half a second, Agnes blushed but grinned a little as they kissed. It really was such a beautiful setting and a magnificent place that how could they deny themselves such a tender expression? Agnes had managed to hold off for most of the plane ride, and especially in front of Rebecca’s parents, but now that they were alone, she just couldn’t help it. She fell into the feelings, wrapping her arms around her sweet, redheaded lover, and kissed her with as much passion as she was being given.
She was nearly left breathless when they finally parted lips and Agnes had to sigh a little.
>> ”You’re absolutely beautiful.”
Now she really did blush fiercely. She hid her grin, trying to keep a hold of her modesty. She never really thought that she was that beautiful, but hearing it from Rebecca—it made her feel like an absolute princess.
Cheeks still on fire from the compliment, she just beamed as she kissed Rebecca’s forehead. “Thank you. You keep talking like that and I’ll never get off cloud nine,” she smirked, locking eyes with her girlfriend. “Besides, you are definitely most beautiful between the two of us,” she said as she ran her fingers through Rebecca’s red hair.
>> ”Ah cannae believe how much Ah love you.”
Another kiss and Agnes grinned again. She definitely knew how Rebecca felt. This had to be love, right? They had said it to each other months ago but it still seemed like the first time whenever they said it now. Her heart fluttered, her blood pounded, her head felt slightly dizzy, yup, this was love. And was not just any kind, either. To Agnes this was the type of love that could survive anything that life could throw at them. After everything life had thrown at them so far, she felt that they were strong enough to survive a nuclear blast! Yes…they were in love and nothing broke that…
“I love you too,” she whispered as she pressed her forehead gently against Rebecca’s and brushed her lips against hers. She sighed closed her eyes, smiling a bit. “I wish…I wish we could just stay here. Just you and me…no one else since you are all I need…”

>> “Thank you. You keep talking like that and I’ll never get off cloud nine. Besides, you are definitely most beautiful between the two of us.”
Could Agnes be any sweeter? Rebecca wanted to reply, saying something like “That’s so not true,” and, “if I let you off, who will stay up here with me.” She would have replied, but the kissing began again. Kissing was more important than battling about which of the two was the fairest of them all, for now at least.
>> “I love you too. I wish…I wish we could just stay here. Just you and me…no one else since you are all I need…”
Rebecca was almost caught off guard by the permanence of Agnes’s desires. Things were going so well already… and the idea of spending forever by the lakeside with her was a pleasant thought. Was their love supposed to be so intense after months together? Did it matter? Agnes makes Rebecca happier than she ever thought she could be.
”Ah’d love that…” She rested her head on Agnes’s shoulder, enjoying the sensation of her hair being played with. ”Ah’m gorna miss living in th’ same place as you while you’re at Julliard.”
It was only for the first year, right? Hopefully Agnes would want to come back to the mansion after freshman year… or… ”Agnes… after our first year an’ you dornt have tae live at school anymore, coulds we find a place tae live together?” It was a ways off and they would need to save some money, but Rebecca could not part with the idea of having Agnes to herself, and it was clear to Rebecca that she had found the one, and nothing would get in the way of that.
Agnes didn’t know what it was, either it was the environment, their surroundings, or just the tension of meeting Rebecca’s parents finally melting away, but Agnes knew that she was feeling particularly romantic. She didn’t want to be anywhere else at the moment but right here, with her girlfriend, in Scotland. Nothing else was required. The young insect queen may have been an atheist but in this moment in time, whether she believed or didn’t, she found her heaven.
She sighed as Rebecca place her head against her shoulder and Agnes smiled, kissing the top of her head gently as they held each other very close. Agnes was almost too scared to breathe for fear of ruining the moment. Instead she just closed her eyes and enjoyed the silence, listening to the only thing she really cared about at the moment…Rebecca.
>> ”Ah’d love that…Ah’m gorna miss living in th’ same place as you while you’re at Julliard.”
It was a cold splash of realization across her face. Julliard. She would be starting in the Fall and that meant that she was going to have to move out of the mansion. It was going to be terrifying to be living on her own, again, especially in a place that was not specifically set to make mutants comfortable. She hoped, though, hoped against hope that everything was going to work out and a year could fly by.
She nodded, finally, as she stroked Rebecca’s hair.
“I know…I’m going to miss you so much,” she mumbled tenderly.
>> ”Agnes… after our first year an’ you dornt have tae live at school anymore, coulds we find a place tae live together?”
She paused. The idea was so shocking that it was enough to shake Agnes out of her current, peaceful thoughts. She never thought that far ahead in her life and yet here she was, possibly being asked to move in with her girlfriend? Agnes knew that she loved Rebecca, she knew that she wanted to be with her, but such thoughts made it something that was far more permanent than she ever thought before.
Slowly she pulled back, looking down into Rebecca’s mismatched eyes. She took a moment to stare, to search those emerald and sapphire depths to see if there was real honesty behind her girlfriend’s words. And, what she found there, made her smile wide.
“Why, Ms. Grey,” she started with a low and quasi-formal voice, “Are…Are you asking me to move in with you?”

>> “Why, Ms. Grey, are…are you asking me to move in with you?”
A year prior, Rebecca was still in Paisley, and she might have been enjoying the pond with her teammates. She was a shy, awkward girl who had one awkward kiss to her name, and the closest thing she had to a relationship was with her cat. Now, she was back in Paisley, wrapped in the arms of her girlfriend, her first, and the girl she had somehow just mustered up the courage to ask to move in with.
It was hard not to believe in fate when she thought about the chain of events that led them there. It was a chance meeting in a garden, an intimate discussion, a trip that made Rebecca realize what was important when her life was on the line, a date with a boy that did not feel right, three little words, a late night of studying, and if not for each of those things, they would not be where they were. Agnes might not believe in God, but Rebecca could definitely accept that someone was looking out for them.
Rebecca grabbed Agnes’s wrists and dropped down to sit on the grass, pulling Agnes down with her to keep her on Rebecca’s lap. She grinned, locking eyes with her love. ”Yes, Miss Nicholas, Ah would love for you tae move in with me.” She kissed the brunette’s blushing cheek. ”Well, in a year, anyway. We would have some saving tae dae, bit woulds you want tae?” Maybe it was fate or God, but Rebecca had no doubt in her mind what Agnes’s answer would be.
Agnes was still a little stunned by the revelation. This was a truly important question and, sadly, she was just a little scared of the answer. That was why she smiled and tried to mask it as simply a joke. What if that was what Rebecca meant it as? Just a joke? She didn’t want to impose her feelings and bounce up and down if her sweet girlfriend was only getting lost in the moment and wanted to joke around. But, that tiny spot that tickled her at the base of her spine told her that this was actually real.
It was as she was gazing, lovingly, at Rebecca’s expression that she began to feel another blush creeping up across her features. Rebecca had seemed earnest about what she had said. Agnes waited but was suddenly caught off guard when the redheaded Scot plopped down onto the ground.
Agnes squeaked, giggled but fell into Rebecca’s laughing, grinning from ear-to-ear at the silliness of the situation. She sighed, as she cautioned another kiss but leaned back once Rebecca began to speak again…
>> ”Yes, Miss Nicholas, Ah would love for you tae move in with me.”
It was as if every single firework suddenly went off inside her head. Rebecca really was being honest, and she did mean it, when she asked if they could live together. They could really live together! Her heart was beating so fast that for a second she feared her swarm was going to get riled up, but she it never happened. Instead, she couldn’t keep the smile from her face as she listened to the gently drops of the pond nearby; Rebecca’s words rebounding inside of her head.
>> “Well, in a year, anyway. We would have some saving tae dae, bit woulds you want tae?”
Agnes was silent for a moment, as if in thought. Then, she leaned forward, pressed her leaps against Rebecca’s and sighed. Softly she continued forward until she was nearly on top of Rebecca, dark hair mingling with her brilliant red locks. She beamed as she reluctantly pulled her lips away but sighed.
“Yes,” she whispered, unable to stop her smiling. “Definitely, yes.”
