The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Allison eyed the couple with a great deal of annoyance. Why they’d decided to speak, or why anyone had, she wasn’t sure. She’d have much preferred they all just leave, maybe with some vague mutters that she wouldn’t have to respond to.
...She supposed that she couldn’t blame them for waiting for the woman to be brought down out of the tree, though. Also, she needed to make a point of remembering where enemies were for longer than thirty seconds.
The woman’s apology… annoyed her. The crying and stuttering, she supposed, should have made her feel sorry for the woman, or maybe triumphant, but it didn’t. “No, you’re not sorry, you’re scared. And you should be. But you’re not sorry.” She’d switched, at some point in there, to directing her rant at the entire group, instead of just the woman. “You don’t regret being hateful, spiteful bigots, you don’t regret attacking innocents, and tomorrow you’re just going to go attack someone else, and probably be even worse for being scared now. How many other people have you attacked, that couldn’t defend themselves? You’re not sorry, and don’t tell me you are. Being scared doesn’t make anyone sorry, it just makes them angry and looking for a target. So don’t lie.”
That… was more of a rant than was needed. It was hard to stop, though. Allison hated bigots. And she hated even more when she couldn’t do anything about them. And she really wanted to say more. About suicide and bullying and terror and self loathing and all the things people like them forced other people to go through, and cycles that were so hard to stop and so easy to start, and what it felt like to be helpless and trapped and hated. She’d done that before, though, and never gotten any reaction but backing away from the crazy fanatic, so she glared for another instant before turning and walking away, letting the ink absorb back into her arms wherever it happened to be.
They’re not worth my time. Except they were, changing bigots was always worth the time it took. She just wasn’t actually able to change them.
All Kitra could do as Skydancer and then Allison ranted was have a wide eyed moment. She couldn't blame either of them to be honest. Though the group cringed at Sky's words, they looked fearful and apologetic at Allison's. 'Hmm, interesting reaction.'
"So, I think it would be best if you folks left." Kitra said in a deadpan voice aimed at the little group full of mutant haters. They seemed rather put out and shameful now. To Kitra's surprise they all backed off quite quickly and scattered disappearing in less then a minute. Quite impressive actually, though she noticed the older gentleman stayed where he was.
The older gentleman smiled at her and bowed towards her and then Allison and then Skydancer. As if right next to her ear she heard his voice whisper, "My apologies ladies." Kitra blinked in surprise and waved at the older gentleman discretely before turning to Allison and Sky.
She walked closer towards them both before speaking. "Did you two hear the older gentleman's voice as well?" Kitra shook her head in amusement before looking a bit more serious. "I wish we didn't have to deal with crap like that, shouldn't matter what someone looks like. You two want to do anything else? Or would you like to go our separate ways?" Kitra didn't mind either way, she had had her coffee, but nothing to eat yet.

It was difficult for Skydancer to feel sorry for the bigoted humans or to feel the least bit of sympathy. So what if they were scared, they should be scared. They should be scared that their irrational hatred would one day cause something regretful to happen to them because there were mutants out there who were not so forgiving as the three of them. There were mutants out there who would maim or kill for their actions and it was difficult, sometimes, to believe such actions to be definitively wrong. If they weren't willing to change on their own, perhaps something needed to be done to force change.
At least the bigots left at Kitra's urging and, if she didn't know any better, Skydancer might have almost been inclined to think that one of them actually did feel real regret and not just because he was afraid of them. She wanted to believe that it was true, that it really was possible to change minds without resorting to grotesque violence, but the cynical part of her couldn't quite accept her. Well, perhaps time would tell if lasting changes could actually be created. Or perhaps Aura was right and there was a war coming between mutants and humans that couldn't' be stopped no matter what.
"I wish they would just leave us alone," Skydancer agreed with Kitra. The tension of the situation slowly left her body and she began to relax again. "It really isn't fair and I don't think they even realize what its like for some of us. I wish there was some way to show them." She shook her head, acutely feeling the futility of the situation. "Leaving here is probably a good idea I guess, but you're both welcome to come."
Allison stared after the gentleman, all her earlier frustration and resentment knocked neatly away by a mix of fury (what was he doing with them!), longing (it would be nice to be able to hide…) and defiance (backing down is admitting you were wrong; never give up). She wasn’t sure whether to scream, cry, or run after the group and demand to know how many others were mutants, who encouraged the hate and violence to escape being targeted by it themselves.
Instead, she started laughing. Hysterically, bitterly, with tears soaking into the corners of her eyes, but laughing as the ink she’d been holding onto splashed down onto her legs and the ground. She was grinning, at least, when she managed to stop, and eyed the ink for a while before carefully lifting what had soaked into her pants and shoes back up, letting it slide over her hand and wrist before pulling it all into her skin, like an odd, dark glove. She shook her hand absently, trying to disperse the lingering pain-cold-burn-tickle sensation as she responded to paper girl’s question. “I don’t care, that much. I’m not sure I’ll really be sane enough to be good company for a bit, but if you don’t mind that….”
Kitra nodded at Skydancer and before she could say anything, Allison started laughing hysterically. Kitra blinked a few times in alarm and eyed Allison, "Are you okay?" She seemed to still be in control after what appeared to be her ink splashed on her legs and the ground disappeared back into her skin around her hand and wrist.
Kitra nodded at Allison, "Sane or not company is still good and I really wouldn't want that group to come back around and try to attack one of us alone." Kitra paused and smiled, not a very nice smile, "Though I'm sure any one of us could handle them easily." She grinned this time, "Where would either of you want to go?" Kitra shrugged, "I just got back into the city a few days ago, so not sure whats new and what stayed around."

Skydancer thought it was probably for the best that Allison not be left alone for the time being, especially given her rather unstable reaction to the events of the day. She didn't exactly blame her for the hysterical laughter, but she couldn't help but feel her esteem for the other woman go down a notch. Between the events with the slug mutants and now this, she just didn't seem like a particularly capable person. It wasn't a reason to feel negatively towards her, of course, but it did mean she needed protection and, probably, a safe place to stay.
"I don't have much planned today. I was probably just going to go back home to The Mansion? You're both welcome to join me, if you like. Have you seen the place?"
Kitra, at least, seemed like a capable and confident individual able to take care of herself. Maybe when things had calmed down a bit, Skydancer might be able to inquire a bit more about the details of her own power. T he paper whip was rather impressive, after all.
“Yeah.” Allison sighed without quite noticing as she focused on the paper girl. “Just… frustrated, and not really used to expressing it.” Which… was true, when she thought about it. Allison was so in the habit of speaking automatically to hide her own negativity, or anything she did that might make people upset, sometimes she was honest without intending to be. Of course, sometimes she lied without intending to, either, but this particular moment was a case of honesty.
“I don’t know of anywhere in particular….” Allison ignored the paper girl’s comment on their abilities to deal with the group, should they return. Allison was pretty certain she could outrun them, or climb a tree and wait for them to get bored and leave (possibly while kicking out anyone who tried chasing her up it), but actually defending herself was not something she trusted herself to be able to do. Or, when she was this annoyed, to be willing to do. Pretty martyrs got a whole lot more attention than deformed ones, anyway. She wasn’t helping anything any other way.
“I might have heard of it….” The name the Mansion seemed familiar, anyway, but that might as easily have come from a movie or book, since Allison couldn’t seem to come up with any particular associations for it. “I don’t think I’ve ever been there, though.”
Kitra nodded, "The Mansion sounds like a great idea." Safe and mutant friendly if she remember correctly. Kitra looked at Sky, "Catch a cab or walk there?" She shrugged, "I can't quite remember how far away it is from here." Kitra fell silent waiting for Skydancer's answer. She had noted Allison's sigh and completly understood her frustration. The so called "normal" people actually caused more problems then any "normal" person should. Well, that was in her opinion at least. Which she wasn't quite in the mood to share outloud as they were still out in the open. So she just waited silently.

"Do you know how to defend yourself," Skydancer asked Allison in a serious tone. This was the second time she had encountered the woman and lead to less than ideal circumstances and she was concerned about her well being. "I don't even mean with your powers, but just in general." Because not everyone's powers were as dangerous as her own.
"Definitely taxi," Skydancer answered, beckoning both women to follow her. "Its a little bit far to walk." Not everyone could travel at high speeds from the rooftops. Her high speeds weren't even all that high compared to some, but after the experiences they had just been through, going the easy route seemed best.
“I… can run away?” Allison offered. “And….” Get beaten up. Be really stubborn about getting beaten up, and standing up anyway. And maybe, if provoked, cut a man’s eye in half, catch and mutilate him.
…Yeah, she wasn’t sharing that story. Even if it did sort of indicate she was slightly more capable than she let herself be normally. “Yeah.”
Taxi sounded fine to Allison. Well, mostly; she still tended to eye most taxis with a bit of distrust for their cleanliness, but at the moment… she wasn’t feeling particularly clean herself, anyway, so that hesitation was quickly dropped, and she shrugged and followed Skydancer toward, presumably, a taxi.
Kitra blinked a few times slightly amused. Sky sounded like a mother scolding her child for being bullied. Still, Kitra understood the seriousness of the question and couldn't help the inward flinch at Allison's response of running. She followed Skydancer into the taxi along with Allison and after getting properly situated without cramming the three of them in the back. Kitra told the taxi driver to take them to the Mansion. The cab driver replied by driving off in a semi hectic hurry and dropped them off rather quickly.
