The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Because I've used teh power," Hunter replied, "When I drink a mutant's blood I temporarily gain their abilities. That was in fact the part of my powers that I passed on to you in a modifide form, allowing you to absorb the gems. Each of the powers you have I've used at least once."
In fact, back when Paragon was a child they used to use the powers together to play games. Her favourite was the water fights. Somehow he doubted she would be as thrilled that he could use the powers of other mutants as she had been when she was a child.

Because I've used the power. When I drink a mutant's blood I temporarily gain their abilities."
Iris wrinkled her nose in reflexive disgust, and a hand went to her throat. "Eewww..."
"That was in fact the part of my powers that I passed on to you in a modified form, allowing you to absorb the gems. Each of the powers you have I've used at least once."
"All of them?" Several memories popped into the front of her mind; now that he mentioned it, she did recall brief glimpses of the two of them practicing various things together when she was small. All except for the Opal. A thoughtful frown marred her face as she cast through her mental files.
Nothing. She remembered the hide-and-seek-in-the-dark games, which were part of learning the Onyx, the influence she was currently under. If she understood correctly, the Opal, Onyx and Gypsum had all been implanted very closely in time to each other.
Although.... she vaguely recalled quite a bit of construction going on at the time.... She remembered seeing people running around in orange vests and hard hats, who always seemed to be covered with dust, and made her sneeze.....
Iris shook her head, returning to present time. "All right, so how do we start then?"
"First of all," said Hunter, moving across the room to the light switch, "we need to dim the lights." He flicked the lights off. With his enhanced eyesight he barely noticed the differance. "Now, focus on thoughts of hiding, of escaping the world. With enough focus you'll change and become the living shadow."
"Once you are the shadow you have a lot to get used to. To start with you no longer have a physical body. That will take some getting used to. Next, you can only move along surfaces. How you do so is hard to describe, so just try for yourself, when you're ready."

"First of all, we need to dim the lights."
"Really? Imagine that..." Under the influence of the onyx, and usually the gypsum too, Iris's personality resembled Crystal's very closely, though without the common sense.
"Now, focus on thoughts of hiding, of escaping the world. With enough focus you'll change and become the living shadow."
"I don't want to hide," she replied bluntly. "I have no reason to hide."
"Once you are the shadow you have a lot to get used to. To start with you no longer have a physical body. That will take some getting used to. Next, you can only move along surfaces. How you do so is hard to describe, so just try for yourself, when you're ready."
She sighed grumpily. "Couldn't you have made activating it a little easier, like a catchphrase or an 'on/off' switch or something?"
But she did as she was told. Closing her eyes, she tried to imagine something intimidating enough, scary enough, fierce enough to made her want to run and hide. Unfortunately, with the onyx came a major confidence boost, a feeling that she could take on anything the world could throw at her. If she used the gem long enough, it was highly likely she would try to do just that, to the point of picking a fight.
Several silent minutes passed, with no signs of progress, and a frown steadily deepening on Iris's face.
The onyx flaw was making itself apparent. Paragon, under the influence of the onyx gem, was far to confident to make use of it's defensive ability without sufficient stimulus. However, Hunter had a plan. Intimidating her into using it wasn't going to work, so maybe he could irritate her into using it.
You needed to want to escape, but not nessecarily escape a threat. Walking over to the fruit bowl Hunter plucked a grape and with a deft flight of his wrist flung it at Paragon's head. "How's this for a reason to hide," he said, plucking another grape, "I'm going to keep throwing grapes at you until you become a living shadow." To make the point very clear he chucked the grape at her and reached for another.

"How's this for a reason to hide?"
"How's wha-Hey!" Her eyes snapped open as something popped her in the face. She glanced down to see what it was, only to have another whatever-it-was hit her in the forehead. She scratched her head on reflex.
I'm going to keep throwing grapes at you until you become a living shadow."
"Grapes?" She scoffed. "Why would I want to hide from grapes? Ow!" One of the round fruits connected with her lip even as she was speaking. She caught it as it fell, and launched it back at him. Had she been younger, or even in a better mood, she would have taken it as a challenge to a food fight.
However if he kept up with the barrage, she would be very easily persuaded to take the challenge anyway.
"And how, exactly, do you expect me to concentrate on something I've never done, with you messing around with the produce?" she snipped in irritation, tossing another of the mini projectiles back at him.[/b][/color]
Catching the grape Paragon threw back in his mouth Hunter explained, "Your efforts weren't working. You need to want to hide, even if it's from something as simple as throwing grapes." Catching the one she threw he flung it back.
"Focus on hidding from these grapes. Consider it a challenge, how many more times can I hit you with a grape before you get the living shadow to work." Throwing a grape a a forehead he started counting. "One."

(OOC: Let me know if I'm gmodding too much. Feel free to keep her from leaving, any way necessary. )
Iris's frown deepened, bordering a scowl. "Or, I can just ignore you." She turned her back on him.
However, ignoring turned out to be harder than it sounded. The continued pelting, and the counting that went with it, very quickly got under her skin. He didn't even make it to ten before she'd had enough.
"Quit it!" She bent down, grabbed a handful of the fallen fruit and chucked it at him, then turned in an attempt to stalk out of the living room.
Hunter moved his hand around in a blur, catching all the grapes that Paragon threw back at him before they hit him. Rather than try and stop her he just took a large handful of grapes and followed.
Throw. "Eleven." Throw. "Twelve." Throw. "Thirteen. Just become a living shadow and I'll stop." Throw. "Forteen."

"Knock it off, Hunter!"
Now she was growing angry. She changed paths, and once in the kitchen she grabbed the broom.
"I mean it! Knock it off, or I'm gonna knock your head off!" She swung the wide end of the broom at him. If he was trying to get her to hide, so far this tactic was accomplishing the opposite.
Hunter suppressed a smile at Paragon's rising frustration with him. She stormed back to the kitchen and grapped the broom, which was plastic at Hunter's direction, and started swinging for him. Ducking the first swing he dodged backwards and continued to throw the grapes at her.
"Resorting to violence won't stop me," he said with a smile, "just use the ability and I'll stop throwing fruit." To make his point he flung one that hit her right between her eyes.

"Resorting to violence won't stop me."
"No, but it'll make me feel a lot better! Now stop moving!"
She swung again, and when she missed, she began aiming for the grapes, swinging like a batter to knock them back at him, and pushed forward. Of course, her aim was off since she was mad, but the thought that she might get lucky and land a blow kept her swinging.
Hunter kept dodging around the broom and throwing grapes. He made sure to lead Paragon on a winding path so he could backtrack to pick up fallen grapes. Her attempts at swating airborn grapes with the broom were futile, as Hunter's aim was too good, something she should know from their practise in the fake mansion.
"If I just stood there and got hit it would be no insentive for you to use the ability," Hunter explained with a grin, "After all, I'm only doing this to help you." Flicking a grape off to one side he managed to make it bounce off two wall and hit Paragon in the backside before he dodged another swipe.

"If I just stood there and got hit it would be no insentive for you to use the ability. After all, I'm only doing this to help you."
"You want to help me, make me feel better and let me hit you!" She swung with all she had, throwing her momentarily off balance. One of the grapes bounced off the back of her head.
If only she could get behind him, just long enough to smack him one.....
Her hands suddenly felt.... not completely there. The broom slipped through her fingers, and clattered to the floor. A look of shock passed over her face, and she looked at her hands. They were still gripped as if she were holding the broom, and they looked all there, but she did not let go of the broom on her own.
She blinked, confused and briefly distracted from her anger.
Hunter hadn't missed a thing. She'd done it, well sort of. What she had done was manage to turn her hands to shadow. "You did it," he said, and stopped throwing grapes at her, "Tell me exactly what you were thinking when you dropped the broom."
They'd found it, a mental trigger. He knew that wanting to hide was a trigger, but there might be others. Still, she'd done it once, she could do it again.
