The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Detailed below is a thread I would like to run with one or more members of the MRC. It is intended to be a non-combat thread, with the MRC members having a confrontation with the mutant Trenchfoot.
Who: Preferably MRC Players or otherwise interested characters, perhaps even X-men if you, the player, feels the situation calls for it and there is interest. What: Trenchfoot eats decomposing matter. For the seven years that he remained in the depths of the sewers, that consisted of old detritus, flushed house pets, and coffee grounds. Now that he's moved topside, he's expanded to larger things, namely people. Usually this means patrolling the nastier sides of New York hunting for corpses; mainly of the homeless, or gang members shot in a fight. He drags the body down into the sewers where they can be broken down and digested. Because none of the people were significant enough to be missed, the police either never received a report, or didn't care enough to investigate some missing homeless man. (This is not set in stone, if a player would like to have already been investigating the disappearances of the homeless, that's fine). This practice is interrupted by a sewer maintenance worker who discovered one of the places where Trenchfoot keeps his bodies. When: The room can have been discovered only minutes before the MRC's arrival. Time isn't too important here, as Trenchfoot will be in the room no matter what, wanting to protect his own personal food storage but not quite willing to fight the authorities over it. Where: The setting will be in the sewers, specifically within and around a circular room with several small-diameter tunnels that guide wastewater flow to this location. A single door leads into this room which has been sealed all around its edges. The Investigator players would start outside the room, or in their offices, or wherever they prefer. Trenchfoot would start inside the room, or already inside one of the tunnels so he can make his escape after talking to the Investigators. Why: I plan on establishing a long-term relationship with the MRC, and this is the first step to making that happen. I intend to present Trenchfoot as 'natural predator'; a mutant who believes wholeheartedly that meat is food, and humans are meat. Because this comes into conflict with the law, I need to have the MRC intervene. I do NOT want to have direct combat just yet; I am in no way powerful enough to contend with the mutants of the MRC. Once the MRC breaches the door, Trenchfoot will have slid up into one of the several tunnels, and will continue to communicate with the MRC, his voice seeming to come from all tunnels at once. Think of it as one of those movies where the detectives get a phone call from the killer, I suppose. I know this may seem self-serving for me, but it gives your character a chance to see something truly horrifying, and then talk to the perpetrator. He doesn't have the usual motive of some brutal serial killer or sadistic kidnapper. Can you condemn a lion that has escaped from a zoo, and began hunting the people that once fed it in its cage? Can you prosecute a shark that attacked a too-curious diver? Should you put it down, now that it has had a taste for human flesh?
How: Check out my fluff post below, should answer how the thread may or may not begin.
Police Sergeant Ronald James MacReady was standing in front of the door when the MRC arrived. He breathed a sigh of relief as he spotted one that he recognized; finally, someone equipped to handle to situation. This wasn't the first time that Mac had ran afoul of a mutant, but just as each mutant was different, so too were their crimes. Each body run through with bone spikes, each torched building with still-running rivers of molten lava, each adult male bludgeoned to death by fists of stone reminded Mac of the horrors that mutants could bring to the world; scenes beyond the capability of the most sadistic of human monsters. Still, Mac was old, and Mac was a professional.
“Glad I am that ye all made it so quick. We still ain't sure if it's called fer, but signs point to Mutant. At 9:15 this mornin, a sewer maintenance worker employed by the city made a call; said he found this 'ere door sealed shut. Said that weren't nothin special, since it was old wood, and water damage sometimes gets em swelled to where they won't open, but when he started to remove it...”
To explain, the Sergeant gestured toward the door. All along its rim, a thick, grey crust had formed, sealing it completely save for one small portion. Some sort of chemical, likely applied by that sewer worker, had burned part of it away, and through it, as one leaned down, a terrible stink was blowing. To say the smell was indescribable would be cheating, so it was best compared to rotten meat, mixed with a wet compost pile, and sprinkled with pungent, rotten milk that's been left out in a hot room.
“He got ahold of that smell. Granted, the man worked in sewers, but that... that ain't normal, an neither is that gunk. There's somethin dead in there. We've got some breathmasks ah course, cleans the air, an we got the chemical that can get that stuff out of the door too. As far as I'm concerned, this is yer department now, folks.”
That's what I'm thinking of. I can hold off describing the interior of the room until the characters actually get in, or I can describe it ahead of time so the first player in can write it into his post, whatever's clever.
In any case, let me know if you're interested, I'm sure the finer details will be easier to work out.
Again, all players are welcome, but I'm aiming in particular for the MRC.

Terrifying, but definitely different. I'm interesting in seeing how Ashton responds to this kind of thing. Hopefully, we can finagle some more MRC officers into this thread. Two seems a good number to me.

*is already standing behind Ashton* I think it's a GREAT idea. Nice way to introduce your awesome character Trenchfoot, and would be a great opportunity for Ashton and Jorge to get some more work time together.

Well I'm glad to hear that. Are we comfortable with my suggested format? I'll control the initial post, and the post after breaching the room in which I would describe its interior.
Aside from that, all NPCs and setting can be controlled by the players as necessary, and if there are additional details a player needs, it should be fine to invent them. (Seems to be par for the course on this site).
I'll wait for an assenting response from both or either of you before I put a post down. Additionally, I had asked who else was in the MRC, but forgot to save the list in my notes. If there are any other MRC members that missed out on this particular thread (I agree that two is enough), I'll focus on giving them something to chew on for my next MRC thread.

Katrina controls another member of MRC, but she's been busy lately, so Jocelyn won't be able to aid us in this case with her super sense of smell... which I think is most wise, as this story leads us to the sewers and that would be most unpalatable for her nose.
Aside from her, there aren't any other notable members of MRC in-character at the moment.
The set-up you defined sounds fine. We can work with, or create, our own details as we see fit.
Hope to see you both there. And ahh, if you do shoot me or strike at me, that's awesome, because I can generally live through a few bullets, or a slice from a blade of water.
