MutationsMutation description: Andrew is capable of increasing his body's density to just over four times what it would be normally.
Strengths: His increase in density can grant Andrew significantly increased strength and durability and, taking around half a second to take effect. At maximum density his strength is increased to four times that of the human maximum; sufficient to lift a normal car, and his durability is increased to the point where most small arms fire at close range and heavier fire at long range will only bruise him.
Weaknesses: In order to sustain his increased density Andrew must concentrate on it, if he is rendered unconscious or his mental faculties are suitably impaired he returns to normal. The increase applies to his entire body, he cannot increase the density of one part of his body over any other part. Extensive use of his powers requires a great deal of energy and leaves Andrew tired and hungry, he is only capable of maintaining his maximum density for fifteen minutes at most before having to rest and at best will be able to use his powers again after two to three hours and something to eat. In his denser form he is also physically slower and cannot jump any higher or further than he would be able to normally due to his increased weight (approximately eight hundred pounds at maximum density). Due to his increased density, if wounded he will take longer to heal and his senses are slightly impaired due to the effect it has on nerve conduction.
Fighting StyleExplanation: Andrew is not a skilled fighter, he has some experience in boxing and wrestling, but fights in a fairly simple way.
Pros for fighting style: His lack of skill is counterbalanced by his ability to increase his density.
Cons for fighting style: Andrew's lack of fighting skill is a serious weakness, an experienced fighter will be able to dodge, deflect or block the majority of his attacks with relative ease.
Faction AllegianceCurrently unaffiliated.
History Of Your CharacterBorn in Oakland, California, Andrew is the middle child in his family. When he was four years old his family moved to Queens, New York shortly after the birth of his second sister for the sake of his father's work. Growing up he spent a lot of time in local parks, usually playing with friends, but always distracted by his fascination with the limited wildlife he could find there.
Andrew led a fairly normal, if mildly geeky, life up until his mutation manifested at the age of sixteen. Walking home from high school on a friday evening and passing the local park he noticed his left hand and forearm growing heavier, looking down he saw nothing different. He stopped in the park to inspect his arm and accidentally broke a bench in half as he sat down. He returned to normal as he fell to ground, cutting the back of his hand on the torn metal.
Because of the seemingly uncontrollable fluctuations Andrew spent the weekend hiding in the park in a state of panic until he noticed the correlation between the state of his body and his current thoughts. After learning and practicing a degree of control he felt to be suitable he returned home, dirty, wet and anxious about what his parents would say.
On walking through the front door he was immediately and thoroughly questioned by his parents, going repeatedly over the topics of where he had been, what had happened, how worried they were, the state he was in, the fact that the police wouldn't accept a missing persons report unless he had been gone for more than two days and so on. He insisted that he had gotten lost in the park on the way home, refusing to tell them the truth that he was a mutant. After a couple hours of interrogation his parents gave up, realising they'd get nothing more out of him.
Andrew spent the next week or so in a distant haze, though he had learned to control his changes he had still not processed the fact that he was a mutant; he could do fantastic things but if anyone found out they'd most likely hate and fear him. After some secret experimentation with his powers he found a new confidence, though as a "closet" mutant he still worried about his secret somehow being revealed.
After graduating from high school Andrew enrolled at New York University where he is currently studying journalism and working as a night club doorman in order to help pay for his studies, a job where he can make subtle use of his powers to great effect.
RoleplayWhere did you learn about this site?: From the creator and player of the (allegedly) formerly Machiavellian Hunter Antonescu.
Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: None.
Sample RP: Moving purposefully down the street and often being forced to dart between people, Andrew had twenty minutes to hand in his essay ("Ethics and Objectivity in Journalism") thanks to the inability of his Professor's ability to read a calendar correctly. The walk took eighteen minutes on a good day, but today was not a good day.
Assaulted by the noise of cars honking, their drivers angry about having to wait a full second between the light changing and being able to move, and other urban noise pollution at its finest he began to consider what margin of error there was on the deadline and decided to cut through an alley.
With the sounds growing slowly dimmer behind him as he made his way between the two shear brick walls he passed a shady figure, who began to follow.
"Gimme ya' wallet."
"No."
Lunging forward, he grabbed Andrew's wrist.
"'ey! You wanna knife in the ba-"
Feeling himself grow heavier as he concentrated on his density, Andrew spun sharply, forcing his forearm back into the would-be mugger's chest, who was propelled backwards into the wall and slumped to the floor wheezing heavily. Andrew turned away and walked on, very conscious of the time that brief encounter had cost him.
