The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Calley's hearing was still fuzzy around the edges, but it was a quiet night, and a steady tap-tap-tap coming closer was hard to miss. He glanced at the blind man curiously as he approached. It was pretty late to be going for a stroll, wasn't it? Then again, when you're blind, the time of day probably didn't matter quite so--
--Wooooah. Annnd less watching the blind man, more not falling into the fountain. That had been close. The-toes-on-his-right-foot-were-wet close. And apparently, that water was cold.
Tap-tap-tap, went the blind man's walk. Calley had expected it to keep going straight on past via that lovely convenient sidewalk over there, but instead it started veering into the park. Tap-tap-tap. And towards the fountain. Tap. The man stopped. Calley lifted an eyebrow, not particularly feeling the urge to say anything, in case he was completely wrong. And this was a bit of a stretch. With those nice jeans and the dress shirt, not to mention the honest-to-goodness-blazer, Calley was reminded a little of Mister Rogers. From hooded vigilante to Mister Rogers was a bit of a stretch. Not to mention that this guy was blind, and Wraith had definitely not been having problems in that department. Awfully big coincidence for Mister Innocent Blind Bystander to walk up to Calley's fountain at this time of night, though. He kept up his balancing act, circling around the back and slowly approaching the man again.
>> "Nice night for a walk but I think a drive would be better. Shouldn't be on our way so we don't arrive at the mansion too late?"
That voice was entirely unexpected. Calley paused in mid-step. Then, with a grin, he hopped to the side and back to the ground. "Ha!" He laughed, by way of compliment. "You're blind? Seriously? That is awesome, Wr..." He raised up one hand to tap at his chin, quite thoughtfully. "You know, I don't believe we've met." He fancifully mulled. "My name is Calley. I," he cut a short bow that he was fairly certain the man could 'see', if not quite see, "will be your driver tonight. Would you be so kind as to grace me with your own name, Mister...?"

Luke chuckled softly at the Calley's apparent amazement. That was pretty much the way everyone reacted when they saw how his abilities overcame his disability.
"Nice to meet you Calley. I'm Luke... Luke Jacobs." He replied in a friendly tone. Now that he was out of the Wraith costume most of his doubts and questions were gone. He was a nice guy that liked to help people but more than that there was no way he could pass up on an opportunity to see a mutant school.
Stretching slightly he heard his shoulder pop... probably from that crash into the wall earlier but at least there as no major damage. "I hope there wasn't to much damage to your collar bone earlier... I didn't hear any crunching so I figured it probably wasn't broken." Luke said as he tried to make conversation while the two made their way towards the junker they would be riding in, "And if you don't mind my asking, how did you ever find out about this mansion? Like I said before, I've never even really heard about it but of course I never really needed to hide away from society at all."
>> "Nice to meet you Calley. I'm Luke... Luke Jacobs."
Calley tilted his head. The man's voice, tone, and bearing were so much different than before--honestly, he had trouble believing this was the same guy. Luke Jacobs, was it?
>> "I hope there wasn't too much damage to your collar bone earlier... I didn't hear any crunching so I figured it probably wasn't broken."
"Oh, ah..." Calley looked over at the shoulder in question. "Honestly, don't worry about it. I hardly feel a thing." Which was certainly true. What he did feel was a dull throbbing ache that was angry with the world. On a normal day, it would hurt like Hell. Right now... it wasn't bad at all. Honestly, it was sort of nice to have something he could actually feel. His shoulders did a forward roll into a tight slump. "Err, sorry about that whole drama show, with the fake tears, and all. In retrospect, that was kind of... unnecessary." That was one word for it. "I'm kind of a little impulsive, in case you couldn't tell. I do a lot of stupid things. It kind of goes hand-in-hand with the actually being stupid. Anyways... sorry."
>> "And if you don't mind my asking, how did you ever find out about this mansion? Like I said before, I've never even really heard about it but of course I never really needed to hide away from society at all."
Calley made sure to lengthen his stride, and reach the man's door ahead of him. There was kind of a trick to opening this one. It was sort of a twist, pull, wiggle--pop! There we go. Calley made a generous there-you-are-Sir sweep, and hopped back around to the driver's side. Which opened quite well, thank you. It just took a little muscle to get closed again. And it was really best to push down that lock, to make sure it stayed closed.
"I don't really remember, actually," he answered, as he jiggled the key into the ignition. The starter gave a shriek. Then a bark. Then a grind-grind-grind-start, and they were good to go. "I think I heard about it around the Sanctuary. I stayed there for a little bit awhile back. Sounded like a good place, and the whole eighth-grade-education thing was kind of bugging me, so I checked it out." Easily--easily-easily-easily!--he pressed down the accelerator. The car jolted forwards. Okay... and turn the wheel. Niiiice and slow, and nobody hit any errant trees. He, too, could learn to drive. Maybe he could even go in for a real driver's license, after he got used to it. And after he figured out where the switch for the headlights was hiding. He thought he'd found it, but... honestly, he didn't know if his headlights worked to begin with, so it was hard to tell if he was fiddling with the right switches.
"So, I'm a dog thief by night and a student by day. How about you, Mister Jacobs?" He asked, not taking his eyes off of the road to grin over at the man. You never knew when a small child--or worse, a cat--was going to run in front of your car. In the middle of the night. It happened.

"The Sanctuary?" Luke wondered as he listned to Calley talk, "It looks like I have a lot of catching up to do."
"So, I'm a dog thief by night and a student by day. How about you, Mister Jacobs?"
"Let's stick with Luke. I only use my last name if I'm at the office. Well let's see... by night I'm a costumed avenger out to protect the good citizens of New York." The blind man spoke with a laugh, obviously making fun of himself at least a little, "By day I'm a minor shareholder and employee in Jacobs and Jacobs security. My family founded the company years ago but for the most part my uncle take care of the day to day operation. Back when the registration act was in affect I had to step out of the spotlight because my being a mutant kind of soured some people's opinion of the company."
Luke began to lean back into the cushion but eventually thought better of it, maintain a straight posture and somewhat uncomfortable posture. It had felt like there was a broken spring in the seat and he really didn't want to feel it jabbing in his back at every turn of the road.
"So if you heard about the Mansion while you were at the Sanctuary, what exactly is the Sanctuary?" Luke spoke again, doing his best to keep a conversation going so that hopefully the drive would pass by quickly. He didn't mind Calley's company but this vehicle left some comforts out... ok so maybe it left all of the comforts out but he could cut it some slack. It was Calley's first car after all.
"Security company, huh?" Calley echoed. "Cool. Too bad about all these vigilante super-heroes, though. They must really be cutting into business." He shot a lop-sided grin over at the passenger side, then quickly snapped his attention back to the road. You could never be too paranoid while driving. At least, that's what all of his instincts were telling him.
>> "So if you heard about the Mansion while you were at the Sanctuary, what exactly is the Sanctuary?"
"The Sanctuary?" Calley blinked in surprise. "Seriously, you haven't heard of the Sanctuary? Gigantic homeless shelter, opened the November before last, lots of cops died at the Grand Opening? The Isabel Duskmoor v. the State of New York trial this summer? The big golden doors? You can't live in New York and miss the golden doors." He made sort of an 'urp' sound in his throat. "Well, I guess maybe some people can. Ah, not to be rude, but--how blind are you? I mean, you're obviously not actually-need-your-cane blind. Can you basically see everything fine, just without your eyes, or does it work different? If you don't mind me asking." He fidgeted in his seat. Which wasn't the best thing to do: if he fidgeted too hard, the seat started trying to readjust its distance from the wheel. He stopped. "And what was with those ghost things I saw? Are you a sort of illusionist, or something? I'm kinda nosey--you don't have to answer that."
They were getting closer to the Mansion itself now. Soon, the wide lawns behind the tall, ornamental fence came into view. The Mansion itself was set back from the road. It looked, he was quite proud to note, like it hadn't been destroyed repeatedly in recent times. And like it was a classy place to stay, too. Which really said a lot about how hard everyone had been working to fix the place up since Registration. And the Iris incident. And what was the one before that? He hadn't really been paying attention to the news in the mutant world, before those two. Just enough to keep his own stray-cat-self out of the way of things.
He stopped running his mouth as they pulled up to the gates. They were shut, as they usually were. He let the car idle just outside of them. "Umm," he began, somewhat more quietly than he'd been; "So, we'll probably have to talk to Miss Neena. She's kind of the Assistant Headmistress. She's cool. But, ah... I've probably got a few things I should maybe tell her. Some of them might not go over so well. I've... kind of been gone for a few days. I think I've missed her class about twice, not to mention my other ones, and I didn't tell anyone why. It kind of goes back to the whole 'drugs would be easier to fix thing' I mentioned earlier." He was staring quite fixedly at his hands on the wheel. Ten-two position on the old plastic. "She's usually pretty cool, but I'm probably going to blurt out a lot of stuff on her. So... if I get sent to my room or something, then... Thanks. For your help."
With that unloaded, he shut off the car, and got out. He pressed the intercom button set next to the gates. "Hi. It's Calley. I've got two guests. One's kind of sick. The other's here to look around. Could we get the gates opened? Thanks." He took his finger off the intercom. It took all of three seconds for him to start fidgeting where he stood.
